Sūrah 90
al-Balad
The City · 20 verses
Bismillāhir-Raḥmānir-Raḥeem
- 1I swear by this city, Makkahلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِهَٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِ
- 2And you, [O Muḥammad], are free of restriction in this cityوَأَنتَ حِلُّۢ بِهَٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِ
- 3And [by] the father and that which was born [of him]وَوَالِدٖ وَمَا وَلَدَ
- 4We have certainly created man into hardshipلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ فِي كَبَدٍ
- 5Does he think that never will anyone overcome himأَيَحۡسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقۡدِرَ عَلَيۡهِ أَحَدٞ
- 6He says, "I have spent wealth in abundanceيَقُولُ أَهۡلَكۡتُ مَالٗا لُّبَدًا
- 7Does he think that no one has seen himأَيَحۡسَبُ أَن لَّمۡ يَرَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ
- 8Have We not made for him two eyesأَلَمۡ نَجۡعَل لَّهُۥ عَيۡنَيۡنِ
- 9And a tongue and two lipsوَلِسَانٗا وَشَفَتَيۡنِ
- 10And have shown him the two waysوَهَدَيۡنَٰهُ ٱلنَّجۡدَيۡنِ
- 11But he has not broken through the difficult passفَلَا ٱقۡتَحَمَ ٱلۡعَقَبَةَ
- 12And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult passوَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡعَقَبَةُ
- 13It is the freeing of a slaveفَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ
- 14Or feeding on a day of severe hungerأَوۡ إِطۡعَٰمٞ فِي يَوۡمٖ ذِي مَسۡغَبَةٖ
- 15An orphan of near relationshipيَتِيمٗا ذَا مَقۡرَبَةٍ
- 16Or a needy person in miseryأَوۡ مِسۡكِينٗا ذَا مَتۡرَبَةٖ
- 17And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassionثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلصَّبۡرِ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلۡمَرۡحَمَةِ
- 18Those are the companions of the rightأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ
- 19But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the leftوَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا هُمۡ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ
- 20Over them will be fire closed inعَلَيۡهِمۡ نَارٞ مُّؤۡصَدَةُۢ
