Sūrah 88
al-Ghāshiyah
The Overwhelming · 26 verses
Bismillāhir-Raḥmānir-Raḥeem
- 1Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]هَلۡ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلۡغَٰشِيَةِ
- 2[Some] faces, that Day, will be humbledوُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٍ خَٰشِعَةٌ
- 3Working [hard] and exhaustedعَامِلَةٞ نَّاصِبَةٞ
- 4They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fireتَصۡلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةٗ
- 5They will be given drink from a boiling springتُسۡقَىٰ مِنۡ عَيۡنٍ ءَانِيَةٖ
- 6For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plantلَّيۡسَ لَهُمۡ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٖ
- 7Which neither nourishes nor avails against hungerلَّا يُسۡمِنُ وَلَا يُغۡنِي مِن جُوعٖ
- 8[Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasureوُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ نَّاعِمَةٞ
- 9With their effort [they are] satisfiedلِّسَعۡيِهَا رَاضِيَةٞ
- 10In an elevated gardenفِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٖ
- 11Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speechلَّا تَسۡمَعُ فِيهَا لَٰغِيَةٗ
- 12Within it is a flowing springفِيهَا عَيۡنٞ جَارِيَةٞ
- 13Within it are couches raised highفِيهَا سُرُرٞ مَّرۡفُوعَةٞ
- 14And cups put in placeوَأَكۡوَابٞ مَّوۡضُوعَةٞ
- 15And cushions lined upوَنَمَارِقُ مَصۡفُوفَةٞ
- 16And carpets spread aroundوَزَرَابِيُّ مَبۡثُوثَةٌ
- 17Then do they not look at the camels - how they are createdأَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى ٱلۡإِبِلِ كَيۡفَ خُلِقَتۡ
- 18And at the sky - how it is raisedوَإِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ كَيۡفَ رُفِعَتۡ
- 19And at the mountains - how they are erectedوَإِلَى ٱلۡجِبَالِ كَيۡفَ نُصِبَتۡ
- 20And at the earth - how it is spread outوَإِلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ كَيۡفَ سُطِحَتۡ
- 21So remind, [O Muḥammad]; you are only a reminderفَذَكِّرۡ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٞ
- 22You are not over them a controllerلَّسۡتَ عَلَيۡهِم بِمُصَيۡطِرٍ
- 23However, he who turns away and disbelievesإِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ
- 24Then Allāh will punish him with the greatest punishmentفَيُعَذِّبُهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡعَذَابَ ٱلۡأَكۡبَرَ
- 25Indeed, to Us is their returnإِنَّ إِلَيۡنَآ إِيَابَهُمۡ
- 26Then indeed, upon Us is their accountثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيۡنَا حِسَابَهُم
