Sūrah 80
ʿAbasa
He Frowned · 42 verses
Bismillāhir-Raḥmānir-Raḥeem
- 1The Prophet frowned and turned awayعَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ
- 2Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]أَن جَآءَهُ ٱلۡأَعۡمَىٰ
- 3But what would make you perceive, [O Muḥammad], that perhaps he might be purifiedوَمَا يُدۡرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُۥ يَزَّكَّىٰٓ
- 4Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit himأَوۡ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰٓ
- 5As for he who thinks himself without needأَمَّا مَنِ ٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰ
- 6To him you give attentionفَأَنتَ لَهُۥ تَصَدَّىٰ
- 7And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purifiedوَمَا عَلَيۡكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ
- 8But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge]وَأَمَّا مَن جَآءَكَ يَسۡعَىٰ
- 9While he fears [Allāh]وَهُوَ يَخۡشَىٰ
- 10From him you are distractedفَأَنتَ عَنۡهُ تَلَهَّىٰ
- 11No! Indeed, these verses are a reminderكَلَّآ إِنَّهَا تَذۡكِرَةٞ
- 12So whoever wills may remember itفَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ
- 13[It is recorded] in honored sheetsفِي صُحُفٖ مُّكَرَّمَةٖ
- 14Exalted and purifiedمَّرۡفُوعَةٖ مُّطَهَّرَةِۭ
- 15[Carried] by the hands of messenger-angelsبِأَيۡدِي سَفَرَةٖ
- 16Noble and dutifulكِرَامِۭ بَرَرَةٖ
- 17Cursed is man; how disbelieving is heقُتِلَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مَآ أَكۡفَرَهُۥ
- 18From what substance did He create himمِنۡ أَيِّ شَيۡءٍ خَلَقَهُۥ
- 19From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for himمِن نُّطۡفَةٍ خَلَقَهُۥ فَقَدَّرَهُۥ
- 20Then He eased the way for himثُمَّ ٱلسَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُۥ
- 21Then He causes his death and provides a grave for himثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُۥ فَأَقۡبَرَهُۥ
- 22Then when He wills, He will resurrect himثُمَّ إِذَا شَآءَ أَنشَرَهُۥ
- 23No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded himكَلَّا لَمَّا يَقۡضِ مَآ أَمَرَهُۥ
- 24Then let mankind look at his foodفَلۡيَنظُرِ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِۦٓ
- 25How We poured down water in torrentsأَنَّا صَبَبۡنَا ٱلۡمَآءَ صَبّٗا
- 26Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts]ثُمَّ شَقَقۡنَا ٱلۡأَرۡضَ شَقّٗا
- 27And caused to grow within it grainفَأَنۢبَتۡنَا فِيهَا حَبّٗا
- 28And grapes and herbageوَعِنَبٗا وَقَضۡبٗا
- 29And olive and palm treesوَزَيۡتُونٗا وَنَخۡلٗا
- 30And gardens of dense shrubberyوَحَدَآئِقَ غُلۡبٗا
- 31And fruit and grassوَفَٰكِهَةٗ وَأَبّٗا
- 32[As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestockمَّتَٰعٗا لَّكُمۡ وَلِأَنۡعَٰمِكُمۡ
- 33But when there comes the Deafening Blastفَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلصَّآخَّةُ
- 34On the Day a man will flee from his brotherيَوۡمَ يَفِرُّ ٱلۡمَرۡءُ مِنۡ أَخِيهِ
- 35And his mother and his fatherوَأُمِّهِۦ وَأَبِيهِ
- 36And his wife and his childrenوَصَٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَبَنِيهِ
- 37For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for himلِكُلِّ ٱمۡرِيٕٖ مِّنۡهُمۡ يَوۡمَئِذٖ شَأۡنٞ يُغۡنِيهِ
- 38[Some] faces, that Day, will be brightوُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ مُّسۡفِرَةٞ
- 39Laughing, rejoicing at good newsضَاحِكَةٞ مُّسۡتَبۡشِرَةٞ
- 40And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dustوَوُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٍ عَلَيۡهَا غَبَرَةٞ
- 41Blackness will cover themتَرۡهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ
- 42Those are the disbelievers, the wicked onesأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡكَفَرَةُ ٱلۡفَجَرَةُ
