بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
Surah 90 — Al-Balad
- 1لَاlāNay!أُقْسِمُuq'simuI swearبِهَذَاbihādhāby thisالْبَلَدِl-baladicity
- 2وَأَنْتَwa-antaAnd youحِلٌّḥillun(are) free (to dwell)بِهَذَاbihādhāin thisالْبَلَدِl-baladicity
- 3وَوَالِدٍwawālidinAnd the begetterوَمَاwamāand whatوَلَدَwaladahe begot
- 4لَقَدْlaqadCertainlyخَلَقْنَاkhalaqnāWe have createdالْإِنْسَانَl-insānamanفِيfī(to be) inكَبَدٍkabadinhardship
- 5أَيَحْسَبُayaḥsabuDoes he thinkأَنْanthatلَنْlannotيَقْدِرَyaqdirahas powerعَلَيْهِʿalayhiover himأَحَدٌaḥadunanyone
- 6يَقُولُyaqūluHe will sayأَهْلَكْتُahlaktuI have squanderedمَالًاmālanwealthلُبَدًاlubadanabundant
- 7أَيَحْسَبُayaḥsabuDoes he thinkأَنْanthatلَمْlamnotيَرَهُyarahusees himأَحَدٌaḥadunanyone
- 8أَلَمْalamHave notنَجْعَلْnajʿalWe madeلَهُlahufor himعَيْنَيْنِʿaynaynitwo eyes
- 9وَلِسَانًاwalisānanAnd a tongueوَشَفَتَيْنِwashafatayniand two lips
- 10وَهَدَيْنَاهُwahadaynāhuAnd shown himالنَّجْدَيْنِl-najdaynithe two ways
- 11فَلَاfalāBut notاقْتَحَمَiq'taḥamahe has attemptedالْعَقَبَةَl-ʿaqabatathe steep path
- 12وَمَاwamāAnd whatأَدْرَاكَadrākacan make you knowمَاmāwhatالْعَقَبَةُl-ʿaqabatuthe steep path is
- 13فَكُّfakku(It is) freeingرَقَبَةٍraqabatina neck
- 14أَوْawOrإِطْعَامٌiṭ'ʿāmunfeedingفِيfīinيَوْمٍyawmina dayذِيdhīofمَسْغَبَةٍmasghabatinsevere hunger
- 15يَتِيمًاyatīmanAn orphanذَاdhāofمَقْرَبَةٍmaqrabatinnear relationship
- 16أَوْawOrمِسْكِينًاmis'kīnana needy personذَاdhāinمَتْرَبَةٍmatrabatinmisery
- 17ثُمَّthummaThenكَانَkānahe isمِنَminaofالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveوَتَوَاصَوْاwatawāṣawand enjoin each otherبِالصَّبْرِbil-ṣabrito patienceوَتَوَاصَوْاwatawāṣawand enjoin each otherبِالْمَرْحَمَةِbil-marḥamatito compassion
- 18أُولَئِكَulāikaThoseأَصْحَابُaṣḥābu(are the) companionsالْمَيْمَنَةِl-maymanati(of) the right hand
- 19وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaBut those whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelieveبِءَايَاتِنَاbiāyātināin Our Versesهُمْhumtheyأَصْحَابُaṣḥābu(are the) companionsالْمَشْءَمَةِl-mashamati(of) the left hand
- 20عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimOver themنَارٌnārun(will be the) Fireمُؤْصَدَةٌmu'ṣadatunclosed in
