بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Surah 89 — Al-Fajr

  1. 1وَالْفَجْرِwal-fajriBy the dawn
  2. 2وَلَيَالٍwalayālinAnd the nightsعَشْرٍʿashrinten
  3. 3وَالشَّفْعِwal-shafʿiAnd the evenوَالْوَتْرِwal-watriand the odd
  4. 4وَاللَّيْلِwa-al-layliAnd the nightإِذَاidhāwhenيَسْرِyasriit passes
  5. 5هَلْhalIsفِيinذَلِكَdhālikathatقَسَمٌqasamunan oathلِذِيlidhīfor thoseحِجْرٍḥij'rinwho understand
  6. 6أَلَمْalamDo notتَرَtarayou seeكَيْفَkayfahowفَعَلَfaʿaladealtرَبُّكَrabbukayour Lordبِعَادٍbiʿādinwith Aad
  7. 7إِرَمَiramaIramذَاتِdhātipossessors (of)الْعِمَادِl-ʿimādilofty pillars
  8. 8الَّتِيallatīWhichلَمْlamnotيُخْلَقْyukh'laqhad been createdمِثْلُهَاmith'luhālike themفِيinالْبِلَادِl-bilādithe cities
  9. 9وَثَمُودَwathamūdaAnd Thamudالَّذِينَalladhīnawhoجَابُواjābūcarved outالصَّخْرَl-ṣakhrathe rocksبِالْوَادِbil-wādiin the valley
  10. 10وَفِرْعَوْنَwafir'ʿawnaAnd Firaunذِيdhīowner ofالْأَوْتَادِl-awtādistakes
  11. 11الَّذِينَalladhīnaWhoطَغَوْاṭaghawtransgressedفِيinالْبِلَادِl-bilādithe lands
  12. 12فَأَكْثَرُواfa-aktharūAnd made muchفِيهَاfīhāthereinالْفَسَادَl-fasādacorruption
  13. 13فَصَبَّfaṣabbaSo pouredعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimon themرَبُّكَrabbukayour Lordسَوْطَsawṭascourgeعَذَابٍʿadhābin(of) punishment
  14. 14إِنَّinnaIndeedرَبَّكَrabbakayour Lordلَبِالْمِرْصَادِlabil-mir'ṣādi(is) surely Ever Watchful
  15. 15فَأَمَّاfa-ammāAnd as forالْإِنْسَانُl-insānumanإِذَاidhāwhenمَاdoesابْتَلَاهُib'talāhutry himرَبُّهُrabbuhuhis Lordفَأَكْرَمَهُfa-akramahuand is generous to himوَنَعَّمَهُwanaʿʿamahuand favors himفَيَقُولُfayaqūluhe saysرَبِّيrabbīMy Lordأَكْرَمَنِakramanihas honored me
  16. 16وَأَمَّاwa-ammāButإِذَاidhāwhenمَاdoesابْتَلَاهُib'talāhuHe try himفَقَدَرَfaqadaraand restrictsعَلَيْهِʿalayhifor himرِزْقَهُriz'qahuhis provisionفَيَقُولُfayaqūluthen he saysرَبِّيrabbīMy Lordأَهَانَنِahānani(has) humiliated me
  17. 17كَلَّاkallāNay!بَلْbalButلَاnotتُكْرِمُونَtuk'rimūnayou honorالْيَتِيمَl-yatīmathe orphan
  18. 18وَلَاwalāAnd notتَحَاضُّونَtaḥāḍḍūnayou feel the urgeعَلَىʿalātoطَعَامِṭaʿāmifeedالْمِسْكِينِl-mis'kīnithe poor
  19. 19وَتَأْكُلُونَwatakulūnaAnd you consumeالتُّرَاثَl-turāthathe inheritanceأَكْلًاaklandevouringلَمًّاlammanaltogether
  20. 20وَتُحِبُّونَwatuḥibbūnaAnd you loveالْمَالَl-mālawealthحُبًّاḥubban(with) loveجَمًّاjammanexceeding
  21. 21كَلَّاkallāNayإِذَاidhāWhenدُكَّتِdukkatiis leveledالْأَرْضُl-arḍuthe earthدَكًّاdakkanpoundedدَكًّاdakkan(and) crushed
  22. 22وَجَاءَwajāaAnd comesرَبُّكَrabbukayour Lordوَالْمَلَكُwal-malakuand the Angelsصَفًّاṣaffanrankصَفًّاṣaffan(upon) rank
  23. 23وَجِاىءَwajīaAnd is broughtيَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhinthat DayبِجَهَنَّمَbijahannamaHellيَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhinThat Dayيَتَذَكَّرُyatadhakkaruwill rememberالْإِنْسَانُl-insānumanوَأَنَّىwa-annābut howلَهُlahu(will be) for himالذِّكْرَىl-dhik'rāthe remembrance
  24. 24يَقُولُyaqūluHe will sayيَالَيْتَنِيyālaytanīO! I wishقَدَّمْتُqaddamtuI had sent forthلِحَيَاتِيliḥayātīfor my life
  25. 25فَيَوْمَئِذٍfayawma-idhinSo that Dayلَاnotيُعَذِّبُyuʿadhibuwill punishعَذَابَهُʿadhābahu(as) His punishmentأَحَدٌaḥadunanyone
  26. 26وَلَاwalāAnd notيُوثِقُyūthiquwill bindوَثَاقَهُwathāqahu(as) His bindingأَحَدٌaḥadunanyone
  27. 27يَاأَيَّتُهَاyāayyatuhāOالنَّفْسُl-nafsusoulالْمُطْمَئِنَّةُl-muṭ'ma-inatuwho is satisfied
  28. 28ارْجِعِيir'jiʿīReturnإِلَىilātoرَبِّكِrabbikiyour Lordرَاضِيَةًrāḍiyatanwell pleasedمَرْضِيَّةًmarḍiyyatanand pleasing
  29. 29فَادْخُلِيfa-ud'khulīSo enterفِيamongعِبَادِيʿibādīMy slaves
  30. 30وَادْخُلِيwa-ud'khulīAnd enterجَنَّتِيjannatīMy Paradise
