بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
Surah 89 — Al-Fajr
- 1وَالْفَجْرِwal-fajriBy the dawn
- 2وَلَيَالٍwalayālinAnd the nightsعَشْرٍʿashrinten
- 3وَالشَّفْعِwal-shafʿiAnd the evenوَالْوَتْرِwal-watriand the odd
- 4وَاللَّيْلِwa-al-layliAnd the nightإِذَاidhāwhenيَسْرِyasriit passes
- 5هَلْhalIsفِيfīinذَلِكَdhālikathatقَسَمٌqasamunan oathلِذِيlidhīfor thoseحِجْرٍḥij'rinwho understand
- 6أَلَمْalamDo notتَرَtarayou seeكَيْفَkayfahowفَعَلَfaʿaladealtرَبُّكَrabbukayour Lordبِعَادٍbiʿādinwith Aad
- 7إِرَمَiramaIramذَاتِdhātipossessors (of)الْعِمَادِl-ʿimādilofty pillars
- 8الَّتِيallatīWhichلَمْlamnotيُخْلَقْyukh'laqhad been createdمِثْلُهَاmith'luhālike themفِيfīinالْبِلَادِl-bilādithe cities
- 9وَثَمُودَwathamūdaAnd Thamudالَّذِينَalladhīnawhoجَابُواjābūcarved outالصَّخْرَl-ṣakhrathe rocksبِالْوَادِbil-wādiin the valley
- 10وَفِرْعَوْنَwafir'ʿawnaAnd Firaunذِيdhīowner ofالْأَوْتَادِl-awtādistakes
- 11الَّذِينَalladhīnaWhoطَغَوْاṭaghawtransgressedفِيfīinالْبِلَادِl-bilādithe lands
- 12فَأَكْثَرُواfa-aktharūAnd made muchفِيهَاfīhāthereinالْفَسَادَl-fasādacorruption
- 13فَصَبَّfaṣabbaSo pouredعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimon themرَبُّكَrabbukayour Lordسَوْطَsawṭascourgeعَذَابٍʿadhābin(of) punishment
- 14إِنَّinnaIndeedرَبَّكَrabbakayour Lordلَبِالْمِرْصَادِlabil-mir'ṣādi(is) surely Ever Watchful
- 15فَأَمَّاfa-ammāAnd as forالْإِنْسَانُl-insānumanإِذَاidhāwhenمَاmādoesابْتَلَاهُib'talāhutry himرَبُّهُrabbuhuhis Lordفَأَكْرَمَهُfa-akramahuand is generous to himوَنَعَّمَهُwanaʿʿamahuand favors himفَيَقُولُfayaqūluhe saysرَبِّيrabbīMy Lordأَكْرَمَنِakramanihas honored me
- 16وَأَمَّاwa-ammāButإِذَاidhāwhenمَاmādoesابْتَلَاهُib'talāhuHe try himفَقَدَرَfaqadaraand restrictsعَلَيْهِʿalayhifor himرِزْقَهُriz'qahuhis provisionفَيَقُولُfayaqūluthen he saysرَبِّيrabbīMy Lordأَهَانَنِahānani(has) humiliated me
- 17كَلَّاkallāNay!بَلْbalButلَاlānotتُكْرِمُونَtuk'rimūnayou honorالْيَتِيمَl-yatīmathe orphan
- 18وَلَاwalāAnd notتَحَاضُّونَtaḥāḍḍūnayou feel the urgeعَلَىʿalātoطَعَامِṭaʿāmifeedالْمِسْكِينِl-mis'kīnithe poor
- 19وَتَأْكُلُونَwatakulūnaAnd you consumeالتُّرَاثَl-turāthathe inheritanceأَكْلًاaklandevouringلَمًّاlammanaltogether
- 20وَتُحِبُّونَwatuḥibbūnaAnd you loveالْمَالَl-mālawealthحُبًّاḥubban(with) loveجَمًّاjammanexceeding
- 21كَلَّاkallāNayإِذَاidhāWhenدُكَّتِdukkatiis leveledالْأَرْضُl-arḍuthe earthدَكًّاdakkanpoundedدَكًّاdakkan(and) crushed
- 22وَجَاءَwajāaAnd comesرَبُّكَrabbukayour Lordوَالْمَلَكُwal-malakuand the Angelsصَفًّاṣaffanrankصَفًّاṣaffan(upon) rank
- 23وَجِاىءَwajīaAnd is broughtيَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhinthat DayبِجَهَنَّمَbijahannamaHellيَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhinThat Dayيَتَذَكَّرُyatadhakkaruwill rememberالْإِنْسَانُl-insānumanوَأَنَّىwa-annābut howلَهُlahu(will be) for himالذِّكْرَىl-dhik'rāthe remembrance
- 24يَقُولُyaqūluHe will sayيَالَيْتَنِيyālaytanīO! I wishقَدَّمْتُqaddamtuI had sent forthلِحَيَاتِيliḥayātīfor my life
- 25فَيَوْمَئِذٍfayawma-idhinSo that Dayلَاlānotيُعَذِّبُyuʿadhibuwill punishعَذَابَهُʿadhābahu(as) His punishmentأَحَدٌaḥadunanyone
- 26وَلَاwalāAnd notيُوثِقُyūthiquwill bindوَثَاقَهُwathāqahu(as) His bindingأَحَدٌaḥadunanyone
- 27يَاأَيَّتُهَاyāayyatuhāOالنَّفْسُl-nafsusoulالْمُطْمَئِنَّةُl-muṭ'ma-inatuwho is satisfied
- 28ارْجِعِيir'jiʿīReturnإِلَىilātoرَبِّكِrabbikiyour Lordرَاضِيَةًrāḍiyatanwell pleasedمَرْضِيَّةًmarḍiyyatanand pleasing
- 29فَادْخُلِيfa-ud'khulīSo enterفِيfīamongعِبَادِيʿibādīMy slaves
- 30وَادْخُلِيwa-ud'khulīAnd enterجَنَّتِيjannatīMy Paradise
