بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
Surah 80 — Abasa
- 1عَبَسَʿabasaHe frownedوَتَوَلَّىwatawallāand turned away
- 2أَنْanBecauseجَاءَهُjāahucame to himالْأَعْمَىl-aʿmāthe blind man
- 3وَمَاwamāBut whatيُدْرِيكَyud'rīkawould make you knowلَعَلَّهُlaʿallahuthat he mightيَزَّكَّىyazzakkāpurify himself
- 4أَوْawOrيَذَّكَّرُyadhakkarube remindedفَتَنْفَعَهُfatanfaʿahuso would benefit himالذِّكْرَىl-dhik'rāthe reminder
- 5أَمَّاammāAs forمَنِmani(him) whoاسْتَغْنَىis'taghnāconsiders himself free from need
- 6فَأَنْتَfa-antaSo youلَهُlahuto himتَصَدَّىtaṣaddāgive attention
- 7وَمَاwamāAnd notعَلَيْكَʿalaykaupon youأَلَّاallāthat notيَزَّكَّىyazzakkāhe purifies himself
- 8وَأَمَّاwa-ammāBut as forمَنْman(he) whoجَاءَكَjāakacame to youيَسْعَىyasʿāstriving
- 9وَهُوَwahuwaWhile heيَخْشَىyakhshāfears
- 10فَأَنْتَfa-antaBut youعَنْهُʿanhufrom himتَلَهَّىtalahhā(are) distracted
- 11كَلَّاkallāNay!إِنَّهَاinnahāIndeed itتَذْكِرَةٌtadhkiratun(is) a reminder
- 12فَمَنْfamanSo whosoeverشَاءَshāawillsذَكَرَهُdhakarahumay remember it
- 13فِيfīInصُحُفٍṣuḥufinsheetsمُكَرَّمَةٍmukarramatinhonored
- 14مَرْفُوعَةٍmarfūʿatinExaltedمُطَهَّرَةٍmuṭahharatinpurified
- 15بِأَيْدِيbi-aydīIn (the) handsسَفَرَةٍsafaratin(of) scribes
- 16كِرَامٍkirāminNobleبَرَرَةٍbararatindutiful
- 17قُتِلَqutilaIs destroyedالْإِنْسَانُl-insānuthe manمَاmāhowأَكْفَرَهُakfarahuungrateful is he!
- 18مِنْminFromأَيِّayyiwhatشَيْءٍshayinthingخَلَقَهُkhalaqahuHe created him
- 19مِنْminFromنُطْفَةٍnuṭ'fatina sperm dropخَلَقَهُkhalaqahuHe created himفَقَدَّرَهُfaqaddarahuthen He proportioned him
- 20ثُمَّthummaThenالسَّبِيلَl-sabīlathe wayيَسَّرَهُyassarahuHe made easy for him
- 21ثُمَّthummaThenأَمَاتَهُamātahuHe causes him to dieفَأَقْبَرَهُfa-aqbarahuand provides a grave for him
- 22ثُمَّthummaThenإِذَاidhāwhenشَاءَshāaHe willsأَنْشَرَهُansharahuHe will resurrect him
- 23كَلَّاkallāNay!لَمَّاlammāNotيَقْضِyaqḍihe has accomplishedمَاmāwhatأَمَرَهُamarahuHe commanded him
- 24فَلْيَنْظُرِfalyanẓuriThen let lookالْإِنْسَانُl-insānuthe manإِلَىilāatطَعَامِهِṭaʿāmihihis food
- 25أَنَّاannāWeصَبَبْنَاṣababnā[We] poured downالْمَاءَl-māathe waterصَبًّاṣabban(in) abundance
- 26ثُمَّthummaThenشَقَقْنَاshaqaqnāWe cleavedالْأَرْضَl-arḍathe earthشَقًّاshaqqansplitting
- 27فَأَنْبَتْنَاfa-anbatnāThen We caused to growفِيهَاfīhāthereinحَبًّاḥabbangrain
- 28وَعِنَبًاwaʿinabanAnd grapesوَقَضْبًاwaqaḍbanand green vegetables
- 29وَزَيْتُونًاwazaytūnanAnd oliveوَنَخْلًاwanakhlanand date-palms
- 30وَحَدَائِقَwaḥadāiqaAnd gardensغُلْبًاghul'ban(of) thick foliage
- 31وَفَاكِهَةًwafākihatanAnd fruitsوَأَبًّاwa-abbanand grass
- 32مَتَاعًاmatāʿan(As) a provisionلَكُمْlakumfor youوَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْwali-anʿāmikumand for your cattle
- 33فَإِذَاfa-idhāBut whenجَاءَتِjāaticomesالصَّاخَّةُl-ṣākhatuthe Deafening Blast
- 34يَوْمَyawma(The) Dayيَفِرُّyafirruwill fleeالْمَرْءُl-marua manمِنْminfromأَخِيهِakhīhihis brother
- 35وَأُمِّهِwa-ummihiAnd his motherوَأَبِيهِwa-abīhiand his father
- 36وَصَاحِبَتِهِwaṣāḥibatihiAnd his wifeوَبَنِيهِwabanīhiand his children
- 37لِكُلِّlikulliFor everyامْرِئٍim'ri-inmanمِنْهُمْmin'humamong themيَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhinthat Dayشَأْنٌshanun(will be) a matterيُغْنِيهِyugh'nīhioccupying him
- 38وُجُوهٌwujūhunFacesيَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhinthat Dayمُسْفِرَةٌmus'firatun(will be) bright
- 39ضَاحِكَةٌḍāḥikatunLaughingمُسْتَبْشِرَةٌmus'tabshiratunrejoicing at good news
- 40وَوُجُوهٌwawujūhunAnd facesيَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhinthat Dayعَلَيْهَاʿalayhāupon themغَبَرَةٌghabaratun(will be) dust
- 41تَرْهَقُهَاtarhaquhāWill cover themقَتَرَةٌqataratundarkness
- 42أُولَئِكَulāikaThoseهُمُhumu[they]الْكَفَرَةُl-kafaratu(are) the disbelieversالْفَجَرَةُl-fajaratuthe wicked ones
