بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Surah 80 — Abasa

  1. 1عَبَسَʿabasaHe frownedوَتَوَلَّىwatawallāand turned away
  2. 2أَنْanBecauseجَاءَهُjāahucame to himالْأَعْمَىl-aʿmāthe blind man
  3. 3وَمَاwamāBut whatيُدْرِيكَyud'rīkawould make you knowلَعَلَّهُlaʿallahuthat he mightيَزَّكَّىyazzakkāpurify himself
  4. 4أَوْawOrيَذَّكَّرُyadhakkarube remindedفَتَنْفَعَهُfatanfaʿahuso would benefit himالذِّكْرَىl-dhik'rāthe reminder
  5. 5أَمَّاammāAs forمَنِmani(him) whoاسْتَغْنَىis'taghnāconsiders himself free from need
  6. 6فَأَنْتَfa-antaSo youلَهُlahuto himتَصَدَّىtaṣaddāgive attention
  7. 7وَمَاwamāAnd notعَلَيْكَʿalaykaupon youأَلَّاallāthat notيَزَّكَّىyazzakkāhe purifies himself
  8. 8وَأَمَّاwa-ammāBut as forمَنْman(he) whoجَاءَكَjāakacame to youيَسْعَىyasʿāstriving
  9. 9وَهُوَwahuwaWhile heيَخْشَىyakhshāfears
  10. 10فَأَنْتَfa-antaBut youعَنْهُʿanhufrom himتَلَهَّىtalahhā(are) distracted
  11. 11كَلَّاkallāNay!إِنَّهَاinnahāIndeed itتَذْكِرَةٌtadhkiratun(is) a reminder
  12. 12فَمَنْfamanSo whosoeverشَاءَshāawillsذَكَرَهُdhakarahumay remember it
  13. 13فِيInصُحُفٍṣuḥufinsheetsمُكَرَّمَةٍmukarramatinhonored
  14. 14مَرْفُوعَةٍmarfūʿatinExaltedمُطَهَّرَةٍmuṭahharatinpurified
  15. 15بِأَيْدِيbi-aydīIn (the) handsسَفَرَةٍsafaratin(of) scribes
  16. 16كِرَامٍkirāminNobleبَرَرَةٍbararatindutiful
  17. 17قُتِلَqutilaIs destroyedالْإِنْسَانُl-insānuthe manمَاhowأَكْفَرَهُakfarahuungrateful is he!
  18. 18مِنْminFromأَيِّayyiwhatشَيْءٍshayinthingخَلَقَهُkhalaqahuHe created him
  19. 19مِنْminFromنُطْفَةٍnuṭ'fatina sperm dropخَلَقَهُkhalaqahuHe created himفَقَدَّرَهُfaqaddarahuthen He proportioned him
  20. 20ثُمَّthummaThenالسَّبِيلَl-sabīlathe wayيَسَّرَهُyassarahuHe made easy for him
  21. 21ثُمَّthummaThenأَمَاتَهُamātahuHe causes him to dieفَأَقْبَرَهُfa-aqbarahuand provides a grave for him
  22. 22ثُمَّthummaThenإِذَاidhāwhenشَاءَshāaHe willsأَنْشَرَهُansharahuHe will resurrect him
  23. 23كَلَّاkallāNay!لَمَّاlammāNotيَقْضِyaqḍihe has accomplishedمَاwhatأَمَرَهُamarahuHe commanded him
  24. 24فَلْيَنْظُرِfalyanẓuriThen let lookالْإِنْسَانُl-insānuthe manإِلَىilāatطَعَامِهِṭaʿāmihihis food
  25. 25أَنَّاannāWeصَبَبْنَاṣababnā[We] poured downالْمَاءَl-māathe waterصَبًّاṣabban(in) abundance
  26. 26ثُمَّthummaThenشَقَقْنَاshaqaqnāWe cleavedالْأَرْضَl-arḍathe earthشَقًّاshaqqansplitting
  27. 27فَأَنْبَتْنَاfa-anbatnāThen We caused to growفِيهَاfīhāthereinحَبًّاḥabbangrain
  28. 28وَعِنَبًاwaʿinabanAnd grapesوَقَضْبًاwaqaḍbanand green vegetables
  29. 29وَزَيْتُونًاwazaytūnanAnd oliveوَنَخْلًاwanakhlanand date-palms
  30. 30وَحَدَائِقَwaḥadāiqaAnd gardensغُلْبًاghul'ban(of) thick foliage
  31. 31وَفَاكِهَةًwafākihatanAnd fruitsوَأَبًّاwa-abbanand grass
  32. 32مَتَاعًاmatāʿan(As) a provisionلَكُمْlakumfor youوَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْwali-anʿāmikumand for your cattle
  33. 33فَإِذَاfa-idhāBut whenجَاءَتِjāaticomesالصَّاخَّةُl-ṣākhatuthe Deafening Blast
  34. 34يَوْمَyawma(The) Dayيَفِرُّyafirruwill fleeالْمَرْءُl-marua manمِنْminfromأَخِيهِakhīhihis brother
  35. 35وَأُمِّهِwa-ummihiAnd his motherوَأَبِيهِwa-abīhiand his father
  36. 36وَصَاحِبَتِهِwaṣāḥibatihiAnd his wifeوَبَنِيهِwabanīhiand his children
  37. 37لِكُلِّlikulliFor everyامْرِئٍim'ri-inmanمِنْهُمْmin'humamong themيَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhinthat Dayشَأْنٌshanun(will be) a matterيُغْنِيهِyugh'nīhioccupying him
  38. 38وُجُوهٌwujūhunFacesيَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhinthat Dayمُسْفِرَةٌmus'firatun(will be) bright
  39. 39ضَاحِكَةٌḍāḥikatunLaughingمُسْتَبْشِرَةٌmus'tabshiratunrejoicing at good news
  40. 40وَوُجُوهٌwawujūhunAnd facesيَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhinthat Dayعَلَيْهَاʿalayhāupon themغَبَرَةٌghabaratun(will be) dust
  41. 41تَرْهَقُهَاtarhaquhāWill cover themقَتَرَةٌqataratundarkness
  42. 42أُولَئِكَulāikaThoseهُمُhumu[they]الْكَفَرَةُl-kafaratu(are) the disbelieversالْفَجَرَةُl-fajaratuthe wicked ones
