بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Surah 78 — An-Naba

  1. 1عَمَّʿammaAbout whatيَتَسَاءَلُونَyatasāalūnaare they asking one another
  2. 2عَنِʿaniAboutالنَّبَإِl-naba-ithe Newsالْعَظِيمِl-ʿaẓīmithe Great
  3. 3الَّذِيalladhī(About) whichهُمْhumtheyفِيهِfīhi(are) concerning itمُخْتَلِفُونَmukh'talifūna(in) disagreement
  4. 4كَلَّاkallāNay!سَيَعْلَمُونَsayaʿlamūnaSoon they will know
  5. 5ثُمَّthummaThenكَلَّاkallāNay!سَيَعْلَمُونَsayaʿlamūnasoon they will know
  6. 6أَلَمْalamHave notنَجْعَلِnajʿaliWe madeالْأَرْضَl-arḍathe earthمِهَادًاmihādana resting place
  7. 7وَالْجِبَالَwal-jibālaAnd the mountainsأَوْتَادًاawtādan(as) pegs
  8. 8وَخَلَقْنَاكُمْwakhalaqnākumAnd We created youأَزْوَاجًاazwājan(in) pairs
  9. 9وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāAnd We madeنَوْمَكُمْnawmakumyour sleepسُبَاتًاsubātan(for) rest
  10. 10وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāAnd We madeاللَّيْلَal-laylathe nightلِبَاسًاlibāsan(as) covering
  11. 11وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāAnd We madeالنَّهَارَl-nahārathe dayمَعَاشًاmaʿāshan(for) livelihood
  12. 12وَبَنَيْنَاwabanaynāAnd We constructedفَوْقَكُمْfawqakumover youسَبْعًاsabʿansevenشِدَادًاshidādanstrong
  13. 13وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāAnd We placedسِرَاجًاsirājana lampوَهَّاجًاwahhājanburning
  14. 14وَأَنْزَلْنَاwa-anzalnāAnd We sent downمِنَminafromالْمُعْصِرَاتِl-muʿ'ṣirātithe rain cloudsمَاءًmāanwaterثَجَّاجًاthajjājanpouring abundantly
  15. 15لِنُخْرِجَlinukh'rijaThat We may bring forthبِهِbihitherebyحَبًّاḥabbangrainوَنَبَاتًاwanabātanand vegetation
  16. 16وَجَنَّاتٍwajannātinAnd gardensأَلْفَافًاalfāfan(of) thick foliage
  17. 17إِنَّinnaIndeedيَوْمَyawma(the) Dayالْفَصْلِl-faṣli(of) the Judgmentكَانَkānaisمِيقَاتًاmīqātanan appointed time
  18. 18يَوْمَyawma(The) Dayيُنْفَخُyunfakhuis blownفِيinالصُّورِl-ṣūrithe trumpetفَتَأْتُونَfatatūnaand you will come forthأَفْوَاجًاafwājan(in) crowds
  19. 19وَفُتِحَتِwafutiḥatiAnd is openedالسَّمَاءُl-samāuthe heavenفَكَانَتْfakānatand becomesأَبْوَابًاabwābangateways
  20. 20وَسُيِّرَتِwasuyyiratiAnd are movedالْجِبَالُl-jibāluthe mountainsفَكَانَتْfakānatand becomeسَرَابًاsarābana mirage
  21. 21إِنَّinnaIndeedجَهَنَّمَjahannamaHellكَانَتْkānatisمِرْصَادًاmir'ṣādanlying in wait
  22. 22لِلطَّاغِينَlilṭṭāghīnaFor the transgressorsمَءَابًاmaābana place of return
  23. 23لَابِثِينَlābithīna(They will) be remainingفِيهَاfīhāthereinأَحْقَابًاaḥqāban(for) ages
  24. 24لَاNotيَذُوقُونَyadhūqūnathey will tasteفِيهَاfīhāthereinبَرْدًاbardancoolnessوَلَاwalāand notشَرَابًاsharābanany drink
  25. 25إِلَّاillāExceptحَمِيمًاḥamīmanscalding waterوَغَسَّاقًاwaghassāqanand purulence
  26. 26جَزَاءًjazāanA recompenseوِفَاقًاwifāqanappropriate
  27. 27إِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed theyكَانُواkānūwereلَاnotيَرْجُونَyarjūnaexpectingحِسَابًاḥisābanan account
  28. 28وَكَذَّبُواwakadhabūAnd deniedبِءَايَاتِنَاbiāyātināOur Signsكِذَّابًاkidhāban(with) denial
  29. 29وَكُلَّwakullaAnd everyشَيْءٍshayinthingأَحْصَيْنَاهُaḥṣaynāhuWe have enumerated itكِتَابًاkitāban(in) a Book
  30. 30فَذُوقُواfadhūqūSo tasteفَلَنْfalanand neverنَزِيدَكُمْnazīdakumWe will increase youإِلَّاillāexceptعَذَابًاʿadhāban(in) punishment
  31. 31إِنَّinnaIndeedلِلْمُتَّقِينَlil'muttaqīnafor the righteousمَفَازًاmafāzan(is) success
  32. 32حَدَائِقَḥadāiqaGardensوَأَعْنَابًاwa-aʿnābanand grapevines
  33. 33وَكَوَاعِبَwakawāʿibaAnd splendid companionsأَتْرَابًاatrābanwell-matched
  34. 34وَكَأْسًاwakasanAnd a cupدِهَاقًاdihāqanfull
  35. 35لَاNotيَسْمَعُونَyasmaʿūnathey will hearفِيهَاfīhāthereinلَغْوًاlaghwanany vain talkوَلَاwalāand notكِذَّابًاkidhābanany falsehood
  36. 36جَزَاءًjazāan(As) a rewardمِنْminfromرَبِّكَrabbikayour Lordعَطَاءًʿaṭāana giftحِسَابًاḥisāban(according to) account
  37. 37رَبِّrabbiLordالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavensوَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthوَمَاwamāand whateverبَيْنَهُمَاbaynahumā(is) between both of themالرَّحْمَنِl-raḥmānithe Most Graciousلَاnotيَمْلِكُونَyamlikūnathey have powerمِنْهُmin'hufrom Himخِطَابًاkhiṭāban(to) address
  38. 38يَوْمَyawma(The) Dayيَقُومُyaqūmuwill standالرُّوحُl-rūḥuthe Spiritوَالْمَلَائِكَةُwal-malāikatuand the Angelsصَفًّاṣaffan(in) rowsلَاnotيَتَكَلَّمُونَyatakallamūnathey will speakإِلَّاillāexceptمَنْman(one) whoأَذِنَadhinapermitsلَهُlahu[for] himالرَّحْمَنُl-raḥmānuthe Most Graciousوَقَالَwaqālaand he (will) sayصَوَابًاṣawāban(what is) correct
  39. 39ذَلِكَdhālikaThatالْيَوْمُl-yawmu(is) the Dayالْحَقُّl-ḥaquthe TrueفَمَنْfamanSo whoeverشَاءَshāawillsاتَّخَذَittakhadhalet him takeإِلَىilātowardsرَبِّهِrabbihihis Lordمَءَابًاmaābana return
  40. 40إِنَّاinnāIndeed Weأَنْذَرْنَاكُمْandharnākum[We] have warned youعَذَابًاʿadhāban(of) a punishmentقَرِيبًاqarībannearيَوْمَyawma(the) Dayيَنْظُرُyanẓuruwill seeالْمَرْءُl-maruthe manمَاwhatقَدَّمَتْqaddamathave sent forthيَدَاهُyadāhuhis handsوَيَقُولُwayaqūluand will sayالْكَافِرُl-kāfiruthe disbelieverيَالَيْتَنِيyālaytanīO I wishكُنْتُkuntuI wereتُرَابًاturābandust!
