بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Surah 75 — Al-Qiyaama

  1. 1لَاlāNay!أُقْسِمُuq'simuI swearبِيَوْمِbiyawmiby (the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrection
  2. 2وَلَاwalāAnd nay!أُقْسِمُuq'simuI swearبِالنَّفْسِbil-nafsiby the soulاللَّوَّامَةِl-lawāmatiself-accusing
  3. 3أَيَحْسَبُayaḥsabuDoes thinkالْإِنْسَانُl-insānu[the] manأَلَّنْallanthat notنَجْمَعَnajmaʿaWe will assembleعِظَامَهُʿiẓāmahuhis bones
  4. 4بَلَىbalāNay!قَادِرِينَqādirīna[We are] ableعَلَىʿalāonأَنْanthatنُسَوِّيَnusawwiyaWe can restoreبَنَانَهُbanānahuhis fingertips
  5. 5بَلْbalNay!يُرِيدُyurīduDesiresالْإِنْسَانُl-insānu[the] manلِيَفْجُرَliyafjurato give (the) lieأَمَامَهُamāmahu(to) what is before him
  6. 6يَسْءَلُyasaluHe asksأَيَّانَayyānaWhenيَوْمُyawmu(is the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrection
  7. 7فَإِذَاfa-idhāSo whenبَرِقَbariqais dazzledالْبَصَرُl-baṣaruthe vision
  8. 8وَخَسَفَwakhasafaAnd becomes darkالْقَمَرُl-qamaruthe moon
  9. 9وَجُمِعَwajumiʿaAnd are joinedالشَّمْسُl-shamsuthe sunوَالْقَمَرُwal-qamaruand the moon
  10. 10يَقُولُyaqūluWill sayالْإِنْسَانُl-insānu[the] manيَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhinthat DayأَيْنَaynaWhereالْمَفَرُّl-mafaru(is) the escape
  11. 11كَلَّاkallāBy no means!لَاlā(There is) noوَزَرَwazararefuge
  12. 12إِلَىilāToرَبِّكَrabbikayour Lordيَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhinthat Dayالْمُسْتَقَرُّl-mus'taqaru(is) the place of rest
  13. 13يُنَبَّؤُاyunabba-uWill be informedالْإِنْسَانُl-insānu[the] manيَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhinthat Dayبِمَاbimāof whatقَدَّمَqaddamahe sent forthوَأَخَّرَwa-akharaand kept back
  14. 14بَلِbaliNay!الْإِنْسَانُl-insānu[The] manعَلَىʿalāagainstنَفْسِهِnafsihihimselfبَصِيرَةٌbaṣīratun(will be) a witness
  15. 15وَلَوْwalawEven ifأَلْقَىalqāhe presentsمَعَاذِيرَهُmaʿādhīrahuhis excuses
  16. 16لَاlāNotتُحَرِّكْtuḥarrikmoveبِهِbihiwith itلِسَانَكَlisānakayour tongueلِتَعْجَلَlitaʿjalato hastenبِهِbihiwith it
  17. 17إِنَّinnaIndeedعَلَيْنَاʿalaynāupon Usجَمْعَهُjamʿahu(is) its collectionوَقُرْءَانَهُwaqur'ānahuand its recitation
  18. 18فَإِذَاfa-idhāAnd whenقَرَأْنَاهُqaranāhuWe have recited itفَاتَّبِعْfa-ittabiʿthen followقُرْءَانَهُqur'ānahuits recitation
  19. 19ثُمَّthummaThenإِنَّinnaindeedعَلَيْنَاʿalaynāupon Usبَيَانَهُbayānahu(is) its explanation
  20. 20كَلَّاkallāNo!بَلْbalButتُحِبُّونَtuḥibbūnayou loveالْعَاجِلَةَl-ʿājilatathe immediate
  21. 21وَتَذَرُونَwatadharūnaAnd leaveالْءَاخِرَةَl-ākhiratathe Hereafter
  22. 22وُجُوهٌwujūhunFacesيَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhinthat Dayنَاضِرَةٌnāḍiratun(will be) radiant
  23. 23إِلَىilāTowardsرَبِّهَاrabbihātheir Lordنَاظِرَةٌnāẓiratunlooking
  24. 24وَوُجُوهٌwawujūhunAnd facesيَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhinthat Dayبَاسِرَةٌbāsiratun(will be) distorted
  25. 25تَظُنُّtaẓunnuThinkingأَنْanthatيُفْعَلَyuf'ʿalawill be doneبِهَاbihāto themفَاقِرَةٌfāqiratunbackbreaking
  26. 26كَلَّاkallāNo!إِذَاidhāWhenبَلَغَتِbalaghatiit reachesالتَّرَاقِيَl-tarāqiyathe collar bones
  27. 27وَقِيلَwaqīlaAnd it is saidمَنْmanWhoرَاقٍrāqin(will) cure
  28. 28وَظَنَّwaẓannaAnd he is certainأَنَّهُannahuthat itالْفِرَاقُl-firāqu(is) the parting
  29. 29وَالْتَفَّتِwal-tafatiAnd is woundالسَّاقُl-sāquthe legبِالسَّاقِbil-sāqiabout the leg
  30. 30إِلَىilāToرَبِّكَrabbikayour Lordيَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhinthat Dayالْمَسَاقُl-masāqu(will be) the driving
  31. 31فَلَاfalāAnd notصَدَّقَṣaddaqahe accepted (the) truthوَلَاwalāand notصَلَّىṣallāhe prayed
  32. 32وَلَكِنْwalākinButكَذَّبَkadhabahe deniedوَتَوَلَّىwatawallāand turned away
  33. 33ثُمَّthummaThenذَهَبَdhahabahe wentإِلَىilātoأَهْلِهِahlihihis familyيَتَمَطَّىyatamaṭṭāswaggering
  34. 34أَوْلَىawlāWoeلَكَlakato youفَأَوْلَىfa-awlāand woe!
  35. 35ثُمَّthummaThenأَوْلَىawlāwoeلَكَlakato youفَأَوْلَىfa-awlāand woe!
  36. 36أَيَحْسَبُayaḥsabuDoes thinkالْإِنْسَانُl-insānumanأَنْanthatيُتْرَكَyut'rakahe will be leftسُدًىsudanneglected
  37. 37أَلَمْalamWas notيَكُyakuheنُطْفَةًnuṭ'fatana spermمِنْminfromمَنِيٍّmaniyyinsemenيُمْنَىyum'nāemitted
  38. 38ثُمَّthummaThenكَانَkānahe wasعَلَقَةًʿalaqatana clinging substanceفَخَلَقَfakhalaqathen He createdفَسَوَّىfasawwāand proportioned
  39. 39فَجَعَلَfajaʿalaThen madeمِنْهُmin'huof himالزَّوْجَيْنِl-zawjaynitwo matesالذَّكَرَl-dhakara(the) maleوَالْأُنْثَىwal-unthāand the female
  40. 40أَلَيْسَalaysaIs notذَلِكَdhālika[that]بِقَادِرٍbiqādirin(He) Ableعَلَىʿalā[over]أَنْantoيُحْيِيَyuḥ'yiyagive lifeالْمَوْتَىl-mawtā(to) the dead
