Surah 73 — Al-Muzzammil

1. 1يَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO youالْمُزَّمِّلُl-muzamiluwho wraps himself!
2. 2قُمِqumiStandاللَّيْلَal-layla(in) the nightإِلَّاillāexceptقَلِيلًاqalīlana little
3. 3نِصْفَهُniṣ'fahuHalf of itأَوِawiorانْقُصْunquṣlessenمِنْهُmin'hufrom itقَلِيلًاqalīlana little
4. 4أَوْawOrزِدْzidaddعَلَيْهِʿalayhito itوَرَتِّلِwarattiliand reciteالْقُرْءَانَl-qur'ānathe Quranتَرْتِيلًاtartīlan(with) measured rhythmic recitation
5. 5إِنَّاinnāIndeed Weسَنُلْقِيsanul'qīwill castعَلَيْكَʿalaykaupon youقَوْلًاqawlana Wordثَقِيلًاthaqīlanheavy
6. 6إِنَّinnaIndeedنَاشِئَةَnāshi-ata(the) risingاللَّيْلِal-layli(at) the nightهِيَhiyaitأَشَدُّashaddu(is) very hardوَطْئًاwaṭanand most potentوَأَقْوَمُwa-aqwamuand more suitableقِيلًاqīlan(for) Word
7. 7إِنَّinnaIndeedلَكَlakafor youفِيfīinالنَّهَارِl-nahārithe dayسَبْحًاsabḥan(is) occupationطَوِيلًاṭawīlanprolonged
8. 8وَاذْكُرِwa-udh'kuriAnd rememberاسْمَis'ma(the) nameرَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lordوَتَبَتَّلْwatabattaland devote yourselfإِلَيْهِilayhito Himتَبْتِيلًاtabtīlan(with) devotion
9. 9رَبُّrabbu(The) Lordالْمَشْرِقِl-mashriqi(of) the eastوَالْمَغْرِبِwal-maghribiand the west;لَاlā(there is) noإِلَهَilāhagodإِلَّاillāexceptهُوَhuwaHimفَاتَّخِذْهُfa-ittakhidh'huso take Himوَكِيلًاwakīlan(as) Disposer of Affairs
10. 10وَاصْبِرْwa-iṣ'birAnd be patientعَلَىʿalāoverمَاmāwhatيَقُولُونَyaqūlūnathey sayوَاهْجُرْهُمْwa-uh'jur'humand avoid themهَجْرًاhajranan avoidanceجَمِيلًاjamīlangracious
11. 11وَذَرْنِيwadharnīAnd leave Meوَالْمُكَذِّبِينَwal-mukadhibīnaand the deniersأُولِيulīpossessorsالنَّعْمَةِl-naʿmati(of) the easeوَمَهِّلْهُمْwamahhil'humand allow them respiteقَلِيلًاqalīlana little
12. 12إِنَّinnaIndeedلَدَيْنَاladaynāwith Usأَنْكَالًاankālan(are) shacklesوَجَحِيمًاwajaḥīmanand burning fire
13. 13وَطَعَامًاwaṭaʿāmanAnd foodذَاdhāthatغُصَّةٍghuṣṣatinchokesوَعَذَابًاwaʿadhābanand a punishmentأَلِيمًاalīmanpainful
14. 14يَوْمَyawmaOn (the) Dayتَرْجُفُtarjufuwill quakeالْأَرْضُl-arḍuthe earthوَالْجِبَالُwal-jibāluand the mountainsوَكَانَتِwakānatiand will becomeالْجِبَالُl-jibāluthe mountainsكَثِيبًاkathībana heap of sandمَهِيلًاmahīlanpouring down
15. 15إِنَّاinnāIndeed Weأَرْسَلْنَاarsalnā[We] have sentإِلَيْكُمْilaykumto youرَسُولًاrasūlana Messengerشَاهِدًاshāhidan(as) a witnessعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumupon youكَمَاkamāasأَرْسَلْنَاarsalnāWe sentإِلَىilātoفِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawnaFiraunرَسُولًاrasūlana Messenger
16. 16فَعَصَىfaʿaṣāBut disobeyedفِرْعَوْنُfir'ʿawnuFiraunالرَّسُولَl-rasūlathe Messengerفَأَخَذْنَاهُfa-akhadhnāhuso We seized himأَخْذًاakhdhan(with) a seizureوَبِيلًاwabīlanruinous
17. 17فَكَيْفَfakayfaThen howتَتَّقُونَtattaqūnawill you guard yourselvesإِنْinifكَفَرْتُمْkafartumyou disbelieveيَوْمًاyawmana Dayيَجْعَلُyajʿalu(that) will makeالْوِلْدَانَl-wil'dānathe childrenشِيبًاshībangray-headed
18. 18السَّمَاءُal-samāuThe heavenمُنْفَطِرٌmunfaṭirun(will) break apartبِهِbihitherefromكَانَkānaisوَعْدُهُwaʿduhuHis Promiseمَفْعُولًاmafʿūlanto be fulfilled
19. 19إِنَّinnaIndeedهَذِهِhādhihithisتَذْكِرَةٌtadhkiratun(is) a Reminderفَمَنْfamanthen whoeverشَاءَshāawillsاتَّخَذَittakhadhalet him takeإِلَىilātoرَبِّهِrabbihihis Lordسَبِيلًاsabīlana way
20. 20إِنَّinnaIndeedرَبَّكَrabbakayour Lordيَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknowsأَنَّكَannakathat youتَقُومُtaqūmustandأَدْنَىadnāa little lessمِنْminthanثُلُثَيِthuluthayitwo thirdsاللَّيْلِal-layli(of) the nightوَنِصْفَهُwaniṣ'fahuand half of itوَثُلُثَهُwathuluthahuand a third of itوَطَائِفَةٌwaṭāifatunand (so do) a groupمِنَminaofالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoمَعَكَmaʿaka(are) with youوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahيُقَدِّرُyuqaddirudeterminesاللَّيْلَal-laylathe nightوَالنَّهَارَwal-nahāraand the dayعَلِمَʿalimaHe knowsأَنْanthatلَنْlannotتُحْصُوهُtuḥ'ṣūhuyou count itفَتَابَfatābaso He has turnedعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumto youفَاقْرَءُواfa-iq'raūso reciteمَاmāwhatتَيَسَّرَtayassarais easyمِنَminaofالْقُرْءَانِl-qur'ānithe QuranعَلِمَʿalimaHe knowsأَنْanthatسَيَكُونُsayakūnuthere will beمِنْكُمْminkumamong youمَرْضَىmarḍāsickوَءَاخَرُونَwaākharūnaand othersيَضْرِبُونَyaḍribūnatravelingفِيfīinالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe landيَبْتَغُونَyabtaghūnaseekingمِنْminofفَضْلِfaḍli(the) Bountyاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahوَءَاخَرُونَwaākharūnaand othersيُقَاتِلُونَyuqātilūnafightingفِيfīinسَبِيلِsabīli(the) wayاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahفَاقْرَءُواfa-iq'raūSo reciteمَاmāwhatتَيَسَّرَtayassarais easyمِنْهُmin'huof itوَأَقِيمُواwa-aqīmūand establishالصَّلَوةَl-ṣalatathe prayerوَءَاتُواwaātūand giveالزَّكَوةَl-zakatathe zakahوَأَقْرِضُواwa-aqriḍūand loanاللَّهَl-lahaAllahقَرْضًاqarḍana loanحَسَنًاḥasanangoodlyوَمَاwamāAnd whateverتُقَدِّمُواtuqaddimūyou send forthلِأَنْفُسِكُمْli-anfusikumfor yourselvesمِنْminofخَيْرٍkhayringoodتَجِدُوهُtajidūhuyou will find itعِنْدَʿindawithاللَّهِl-lahiAllahهُوَhuwaItخَيْرًاkhayran(is) betterوَأَعْظَمَwa-aʿẓamaand greaterأَجْرًاajran(in) rewardوَاسْتَغْفِرُواwa-is'taghfirūAnd seek forgivenessاللَّهَl-laha(of) AllahإِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahغَفُورٌghafūrun(is) Oft-ForgivingرَحِيمٌraḥīmunMost Merciful
