Surah 72 — Al-Jinn

1. 1قُلْqulSayأُوحِيَūḥiyaIt has been revealedإِلَيَّilayyato meأَنَّهُannahuthatاسْتَمَعَis'tamaʿalistenedنَفَرٌnafaruna groupمِنَminaofالْجِنِّl-jinithe jinnفَقَالُواfaqālūand they saidإِنَّاinnāIndeed weسَمِعْنَاsamiʿ'nāheardقُرْءَانًاqur'ānana Quranعَجَبًاʿajabanamazing
2. 2يَهْدِيyahdīIt guidesإِلَىilātoالرُّشْدِl-rush'dithe right wayفَءَامَنَّاfaāmannāso we believeبِهِbihiin itوَلَنْwalanand neverنُشْرِكَnush'rikawe will associateبِرَبِّنَاbirabbināwith our Lordأَحَدًاaḥadananyone
3. 3وَأَنَّهُwa-annahuAnd that HeتَعَالَىtaʿālāExalted isجَدُّjaddu(the) Majestyرَبِّنَاrabbinā(of) our LordمَاmānotاتَّخَذَittakhadhaHe has takenصَاحِبَةًṣāḥibatana wifeوَلَاwalāand notوَلَدًاwaladana son
4. 4وَأَنَّهُwa-annahuAnd that heكَانَkānausedيَقُولُyaqūlu(to) speakسَفِيهُنَاsafīhunāthe foolish among usعَلَىʿalāagainstاللَّهِl-lahiAllahشَطَطًاshaṭaṭanan excessive transgression
5. 5وَأَنَّاwa-annāAnd that weظَنَنَّاẓanannāthoughtأَنْanthatلَنْlanneverتَقُولَtaqūlawill sayالْإِنْسُl-insuthe menوَالْجِنُّwal-jinuand the jinnعَلَىʿalāagainstاللَّهِl-lahiAllahكَذِبًاkadhibanany lie
6. 6وَأَنَّهُwa-annahuAnd thatكَانَkāna(there) wereرِجَالٌrijālunmenمِنَminaamongالْإِنْسِl-insimankindيَعُوذُونَyaʿūdhūnawho sought refugeبِرِجَالٍbirijālinin (the) menمِنَminafromالْجِنِّl-jinithe jinnفَزَادُوهُمْfazādūhumso they increased themرَهَقًاrahaqan(in) burden
7. 7وَأَنَّهُمْwa-annahumAnd that theyظَنُّواẓannūthoughtكَمَاkamāasظَنَنْتُمْẓanantumyou thoughtأَنْanthatلَنْlanneverيَبْعَثَyabʿathawill raiseاللَّهُl-lahuAllahأَحَدًاaḥadananyone
8. 8وَأَنَّاwa-annāAnd that weلَمَسْنَاlamasnāsought to touchالسَّمَاءَl-samāathe heavenفَوَجَدْنَاهَاfawajadnāhābut we found itمُلِئَتْmuli-atfilled (with)حَرَسًاḥarasanguardsشَدِيدًاshadīdansevereوَشُهُبًاwashuhubanand flaming fires
9. 9وَأَنَّاwa-annāAnd that weكُنَّاkunnāused (to)نَقْعُدُnaqʿudusitمِنْهَاmin'hāthere inمَقَاعِدَmaqāʿidapositionsلِلسَّمْعِlilssamʿifor hearingفَمَنْfamanbut (he) whoيَسْتَمِعِyastamiʿilistensالْءَانَl-ānanowيَجِدْyajidwill findلَهُlahufor himشِهَابًاshihābana flaming fireرَصَدًاraṣadanwaiting
10. 10وَأَنَّاwa-annāAnd that weلَاlānotنَدْرِيnadrīwe knowأَشَرٌّasharrunwhether evilأُرِيدَurīdais intendedبِمَنْbimanfor (those) whoفِيfī(are) inالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthأَمْamorأَرَادَarādaintendsبِهِمْbihimfor themرَبُّهُمْrabbuhumtheir Lordرَشَدًاrashadana right path
11. 11وَأَنَّاwa-annāAnd thatمِنَّاminnāamong usالصَّالِحُونَl-ṣāliḥūna(are) the righteousوَمِنَّاwaminnāand among usدُونَdūna(are) other thanذَلِكَdhālikathatكُنَّاkunnāWeطَرَائِقَṭarāiqa(are on) waysقِدَدًاqidadandifferent
12. 12وَأَنَّاwa-annāAnd that weظَنَنَّاẓanannā[we] have become certainأَنْanthatلَنْlanneverنُعجِزَnuʿ'jizawe will cause failureاللَّهَl-laha(to) Allahفِيfīinالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthوَلَنْwalanand neverنُعْجِزَهُnuʿ'jizahuwe can escape Himهَرَبًاharaban(by) flight
13. 13وَأَنَّاwa-annāAnd thatلَمَّاlammāwhenسَمِعْنَاsamiʿ'nāwe heardالْهُدَىl-hudāthe Guidanceءَامَنَّاāmannāwe believedبِهِbihiin itفَمَنْfamanAnd whoeverيُؤْمِنْyu'minbelievesبِرَبِّهِbirabbihiin his Lordفَلَاfalāthen notيَخَافُyakhāfuhe will fearبَخْسًاbakhsanany lossوَلَاwalāand notرَهَقًاrahaqanany burden
14. 14وَأَنَّاwa-annāAnd that weمِنَّاminnāamong usالْمُسْلِمُونَl-mus'limūna(are) Muslimsوَمِنَّاwaminnāand among usالْقَاسِطُونَl-qāsiṭūna(are) unjustفَمَنْfamanAnd whoeverأَسْلَمَaslamasubmitsفَأُولَئِكَfa-ulāikathen thoseتَحَرَّوْاtaḥarrawhave soughtرَشَدًاrashadan(the) right path
15. 15وَأَمَّاwa-ammāAnd as forالْقَاسِطُونَl-qāsiṭūnathe unjustفَكَانُواfakānūthey will beلِجَهَنَّمَlijahannamafor Hellحَطَبًاḥaṭabanfirewood
16. 16وَأَلَّوِwa-allawiAnd ifاسْتَقَامُواis'taqāmūthey had remainedعَلَىʿalāonالطَّرِيقَةِl-ṭarīqatithe Wayلَأَسْقَيْنَاهُمْla-asqaynāhumsurely We (would) have given them to drinkمَاءًmāanwaterغَدَقًاghadaqan(in) abundance
17. 17لِنَفْتِنَهُمْlinaftinahumThat We might test themفِيهِfīhithereinوَمَنْwamanAnd whoeverيُعْرِضْyuʿ'riḍturns awayعَنْʿanfromذِكْرِdhik'rithe Remembranceرَبِّهِrabbihi(of) his Lordيَسْلُكْهُyasluk'huHe will make him enterعَذَابًاʿadhābana punishmentصَعَدًاṣaʿadansevere
18. 18وَأَنَّwa-annaAnd thatالْمَسَاجِدَl-masājidathe masajidلِلَّهِlillahi(are) for Allahفَلَاfalāso (do) notتَدْعُواtadʿūcallمَعَmaʿawithاللَّهِl-lahiAllahأَحَدًاaḥadananyone
19. 19وَأَنَّهُwa-annahuAnd thatلَمَّاlammāwhenقَامَqāmastood upعَبْدُʿabdu(the) slaveاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahيَدْعُوهُyadʿūhucalling (upon) Himكَادُواkādūthey almostيَكُونُونَyakūnūnabecameعَلَيْهِʿalayhiaround himلِبَدًاlibadana compacted mass
20. 20قُلْqulSayإِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyأَدْعُواadʿūI call uponرَبِّيrabbīmy Lordوَلَاwalāand notأُشْرِكُush'rikuI associateبِهِbihiwith Himأَحَدًاaḥadananyone
21. 21قُلْqulSayإِنِّيinnīIndeed Iلَاlā(do) notأَمْلِكُamlikupossessلَكُمْlakumfor youضَرًّاḍarranany harmوَلَاwalāand notرَشَدًاrashadanright path
22. 22قُلْqulSayإِنِّيinnīIndeed Iلَنْlanneverيُجِيرَنِيyujīranīcan protect meمِنَminafromاللَّهِl-lahiAllahأَحَدٌaḥadunanyoneوَلَنْwalanand neverأَجِدَajidacan I findمِنْminfromدُونِهِdūnihibesides Himمُلْتَحَدًاmul'taḥadanany refuge
23. 23إِلَّاillāButبَلَاغًاbalāghan(the) notificationمِنَminafromاللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَرِسَالَاتِهِwarisālātihiand His MessagesوَمَنْwamanAnd whoeverيَعْصِyaʿṣidisobeysاللَّهَl-lahaAllahوَرَسُولَهُwarasūlahuand His Messengerفَإِنَّfa-innathen indeedلَهُlahufor himنَارَnāra(is the) Fireجَهَنَّمَjahannama(of) Hellخَالِدِينَkhālidīna(they will) abideفِيهَاfīhāthereinأَبَدًاabadanforever
24. 24حَتَّىḥattāUntilإِذَاidhāwhenرَأَوْاra-awthey seeمَاmāwhatيُوعَدُونَyūʿadūnathey are promisedفَسَيَعْلَمُونَfasayaʿlamūnathen they will knowمَنْmanwhoأَضْعَفُaḍʿafu(is) weakerنَاصِرًاnāṣiran(in) helpersوَأَقَلُّwa-aqalluand fewerعَدَدًاʿadadan(in) number
25. 25قُلْqulSayإِنْinNotأَدْرِيadrīI knowأَقَرِيبٌaqarībunwhether is nearمَاmāwhatتُوعَدُونَtūʿadūnayou are promisedأَمْamor (whether)يَجْعَلُyajʿaluwill appointلَهُlahufor itرَبِّيrabbīmy Lordأَمَدًاamadana (distant) term
26. 26عَالِمُʿālimu(The) All-Knowerالْغَيْبِl-ghaybi(of) the unseenفَلَاfalāso notيُظْهِرُyuẓ'hiruHe revealsعَلَىʿalāfromغَيْبِهِghaybihiHis unseenأَحَدًاaḥadan(to) anyone
27. 27إِلَّاillāExceptمَنِmaniwhomارْتَضَىir'taḍāHe has approvedمِنْminofرَسُولٍrasūlina Messengerفَإِنَّهُfa-innahuand indeed, Heيَسْلُكُyaslukumakes to marchمِنْminfromبَيْنِbaynibeforeيَدَيْهِyadayhihimوَمِنْwaminand fromخَلْفِهِkhalfihibehind himرَصَدًاraṣadana guard
28. 28لِيَعْلَمَliyaʿlamaThat He may make evidentأَنْanthatقَدْqadindeedأَبْلَغُواablaghūthey have conveyedرِسَالَاتِrisālāti(the) Messagesرَبِّهِمْrabbihim(of) their Lord;وَأَحَاطَwa-aḥāṭaand He has encompassedبِمَاbimāwhatلَدَيْهِمْladayhim(is) with themوَأَحْصَىwa-aḥṣāand He takes accountكُلَّkulla(of) allشَيْءٍshayinthingsعَدَدًاʿadadan(in) number
