بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Surah 70 — Al-Ma'aarij

  1. 1سَأَلَsa-alaAskedسَائِلٌsāiluna questionerبِعَذَابٍbiʿadhābinfor a punishmentوَاقِعٍwāqiʿinbound to happen
  2. 2لِلْكَافِرِينَlil'kāfirīnaTo the disbelieversلَيْسَlaysanotلَهُlahuof itدَافِعٌdāfiʿunany preventer
  3. 3مِنَminaFromاللَّهِl-lahiAllahذِيdhīOwnerالْمَعَارِجِl-maʿāriji(of) the ways of ascent
  4. 4تَعْرُجُtaʿrujuAscendالْمَلَائِكَةُl-malāikatuthe Angelsوَالرُّوحُwal-rūḥuand the Spiritإِلَيْهِilayhito Himفِيinيَوْمٍyawmina Dayكَانَkāna[is]مِقْدَارُهُmiq'dāruhuits measureخَمْسِينَkhamsīna(is) fiftyأَلْفَalfathousandسَنَةٍsanatinyear(s)
  5. 5فَاصْبِرْfa-iṣ'birSo be patientصَبْرًاṣabrana patienceجَمِيلًاjamīlangood
  6. 6إِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed theyيَرَوْنَهُyarawnahusee itبَعِيدًاbaʿīdan(as) far off
  7. 7وَنَرَاهُwanarāhuBut We see itقَرِيبًاqarībannear
  8. 8يَوْمَyawma(The) Dayتَكُونُtakūnuwill beالسَّمَاءُl-samāuthe skyكَالْمُهْلِkal-muh'lilike molten copper
  9. 9وَتَكُونُwatakūnuAnd will beالْجِبَالُl-jibāluthe mountainsكَالْعِهْنِkal-ʿih'nilike wool
  10. 10وَلَاwalāAnd notيَسْءَلُyasaluwill askحَمِيمٌḥamīmuna friendحَمِيمًاḥamīman(of) a friend
  11. 11يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْyubaṣṣarūnahumThey will be made to see each otherيَوَدُّyawadduWould wishالْمُجْرِمُl-muj'rimuthe criminalلَوْlawifيَفْتَدِيyaftadīhe (could be) ransomedمِنْminfromعَذَابِʿadhābi(the) punishmentيَوْمِئِذٍyawmi-idhin(of) that Dayبِبَنِيهِbibanīhiby his children
  12. 12وَصَاحِبَتِهِwaṣāḥibatihiAnd his spouseوَأَخِيهِwa-akhīhiand his brother
  13. 13وَفَصِيلَتِهِwafaṣīlatihiAnd his nearest kindredالَّتِيallatīwhoتُءْوِيهِtu'wīhisheltered him
  14. 14وَمَنْwamanAnd whoeverفِي(is) onالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthجَمِيعًاjamīʿanallثُمَّthummathenيُنْجِيهِyunjīhiit (could) save him
  15. 15كَلَّاkallāBy no means!إِنَّهَاinnahāIndeed it (is)لَظَىlaẓāsurely a Flame of Hell
  16. 16نَزَّاعَةًnazzāʿatanA removerلِلشَّوَىlilshawāof the skin of the head
  17. 17تَدْعُواtadʿūInvitingمَنْman(him) whoأَدْبَرَadbaraturned his backوَتَوَلَّىwatawallāand went away
  18. 18وَجَمَعَwajamaʿaAnd collectedفَأَوْعَىfa-awʿāand hoarded
  19. 19إِنَّinnaIndeedالْإِنْسَانَl-insānathe manخُلِقَkhuliqawas createdهَلُوعًاhalūʿananxious
  20. 20إِذَاidhāWhenمَسَّهُmassahutouches himالشَّرُّl-sharuthe evilجَزُوعًاjazūʿandistressed
  21. 21وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenمَسَّهُmassahutouches himالْخَيْرُl-khayruthe goodمَنُوعًاmanūʿanwithholding
  22. 22إِلَّاillāExceptالْمُصَلِّينَl-muṣalīnathose who pray
  23. 23الَّذِينَalladhīnaThose whoهُمْhum[they]عَلَىʿalāatصَلَاتِهِمْṣalātihimtheir prayerدَائِمُونَdāimūna(are) constant
  24. 24وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoفِيinأَمْوَالِهِمْamwālihimtheir wealthحَقٌّḥaqqun(is) a rightمَعْلُومٌmaʿlūmunknown
  25. 25لِلسَّائِلِlilssāiliFor the one who asksوَالْمَحْرُومِwal-maḥrūmiand the deprived
  26. 26وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoيُصَدِّقُونَyuṣaddiqūnaaccept (the) truthبِيَوْمِbiyawmi(of the) Dayالدِّينِl-dīni(of) the Judgment
  27. 27وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoهُمْhum[they]مِنْminofعَذَابِʿadhābi(the) punishmentرَبِّهِمْrabbihim(of) their Lordمُشْفِقُونَmush'fiqūna(are) fearful
  28. 28إِنَّinnaIndeedعَذَابَʿadhāba(the) punishmentرَبِّهِمْrabbihim(of) your Lordغَيْرُghayru(is) notمَأْمُونٍmamūninto be felt secure (of)
  29. 29وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoهُمْhum[they]لِفُرُوجِهِمْlifurūjihimtheir modestyحَافِظُونَḥāfiẓūna(are) guardians
  30. 30إِلَّاillāExceptعَلَىʿalāfromأَزْوَاجِهِمْazwājihimtheir spousesأَوْaworمَاwhatمَلَكَتْmalakatthey possessأَيْمَانُهُمْaymānuhumrightfullyفَإِنَّهُمْfa-innahumthen indeed, theyغَيْرُghayru(are) notمَلُومِينَmalūmīnablameworthy
  31. 31فَمَنِfamaniBut whoeverابْتَغَىib'taghāseeksوَرَاءَwarāabeyondذَلِكَdhālikathatفَأُولَئِكَfa-ulāikathen thoseهُمُhumu[they]الْعَادُونَl-ʿādūna(are) the transgressors
  32. 32وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoهُمْhum[they]لِأَمَانَاتِهِمْli-amānātihimof their trustsوَعَهْدِهِمْwaʿahdihimand their promiseرَاعُونَrāʿūna(are) observers
  33. 33وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoهُمْhum[they]بِشَهَادَاتِهِمْbishahādātihimin their testimoniesقَائِمُونَqāimūnastand firm
  34. 34وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoهُمْhum[they]عَلَىʿalāonصَلَاتِهِمْṣalātihimtheir prayerيُحَافِظُونَyuḥāfiẓūnakeep a guard
  35. 35أُولَئِكَulāikaThoseفِي(will be) inجَنَّاتٍjannātinGardensمُكْرَمُونَmuk'ramūnahonored
  36. 36فَمَالِfamāliSo what is withالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelieveقِبَلَكَqibalakabefore youمُهْطِعِينَmuh'ṭiʿīna(they) hasten
  37. 37عَنِʿaniOnالْيَمِينِl-yamīnithe rightوَعَنِwaʿaniand onالشِّمَالِl-shimālithe leftعِزِينَʿizīna(in) separate groups
  38. 38أَيَطْمَعُayaṭmaʿuDoes longكُلُّkullueveryامْرِئٍim'ri-inpersonمِنْهُمْmin'humamong themأَنْanthatيُدْخَلَyud'khalahe entersجَنَّةَjannataa Gardenنَعِيمٍnaʿīmin(of) Delight
  39. 39كَلَّاkallāBy no means!إِنَّاinnāIndeed Weخَلَقْنَاهُمْkhalaqnāhum[We] have created themمِمَّاmimmāfrom whatيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnathey know
  40. 40فَلَاfalāBut nay!أُقْسِمُuq'simuI swearبِرَبِّbirabbiby (the) Lordالْمَشَارِقِl-mashāriqi(of) the risingوَالْمَغَارِبِwal-maghāribiand the settingsإِنَّاinnāthat Weلَقَادِرُونَlaqādirūna(are) surely Able
  41. 41عَلَىʿalāToأَنْanthatنُبَدِّلَnubaddilaWe replaceخَيْرًاkhayran(with) betterمِنْهُمْmin'humthan them;وَمَاwamāand notنَحْنُnaḥnuWeبِمَسْبُوقِينَbimasbūqīna(are) to be outrun
  42. 42فَذَرْهُمْfadharhumSo leave themيَخُوضُواyakhūḍū(to) converse vainlyوَيَلْعَبُواwayalʿabūand amuse themselvesحَتَّىḥattāuntilيُلَاقُواyulāqūthey meetيَوْمَهُمُyawmahumutheir Dayالَّذِيalladhīwhichيُوعَدُونَyūʿadūnathey are promised
  43. 43يَوْمَyawma(The) Dayيَخْرُجُونَyakhrujūnathey will come outمِنَminafromالْأَجْدَاثِl-ajdāthithe gravesسِرَاعًاsirāʿanrapidlyكَأَنَّهُمْka-annahumas if they (were)إِلَىilātoنُصُبٍnuṣubina goalيُوفِضُونَyūfiḍūnahastening
  44. 44خَاشِعَةًkhāshiʿatanHumbledأَبْصَارُهُمْabṣāruhumtheir eyesتَرْهَقُهُمْtarhaquhumwill cover themذِلَّةٌdhillatunhumiliationذَلِكَdhālikaThatالْيَوْمُl-yawmu(is) the Dayالَّذِيalladhīwhichكَانُواkānūthey wereيُوعَدُونَyūʿadūnapromised
