بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
Surah 70 — Al-Ma'aarij
- 1سَأَلَsa-alaAskedسَائِلٌsāiluna questionerبِعَذَابٍbiʿadhābinfor a punishmentوَاقِعٍwāqiʿinbound to happen
- 2لِلْكَافِرِينَlil'kāfirīnaTo the disbelieversلَيْسَlaysanotلَهُlahuof itدَافِعٌdāfiʿunany preventer
- 3مِنَminaFromاللَّهِl-lahiAllahذِيdhīOwnerالْمَعَارِجِl-maʿāriji(of) the ways of ascent
- 4تَعْرُجُtaʿrujuAscendالْمَلَائِكَةُl-malāikatuthe Angelsوَالرُّوحُwal-rūḥuand the Spiritإِلَيْهِilayhito Himفِيfīinيَوْمٍyawmina Dayكَانَkāna[is]مِقْدَارُهُmiq'dāruhuits measureخَمْسِينَkhamsīna(is) fiftyأَلْفَalfathousandسَنَةٍsanatinyear(s)
- 5فَاصْبِرْfa-iṣ'birSo be patientصَبْرًاṣabrana patienceجَمِيلًاjamīlangood
- 6إِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed theyيَرَوْنَهُyarawnahusee itبَعِيدًاbaʿīdan(as) far off
- 7وَنَرَاهُwanarāhuBut We see itقَرِيبًاqarībannear
- 8يَوْمَyawma(The) Dayتَكُونُtakūnuwill beالسَّمَاءُl-samāuthe skyكَالْمُهْلِkal-muh'lilike molten copper
- 9وَتَكُونُwatakūnuAnd will beالْجِبَالُl-jibāluthe mountainsكَالْعِهْنِkal-ʿih'nilike wool
- 10وَلَاwalāAnd notيَسْءَلُyasaluwill askحَمِيمٌḥamīmuna friendحَمِيمًاḥamīman(of) a friend
- 11يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْyubaṣṣarūnahumThey will be made to see each otherيَوَدُّyawadduWould wishالْمُجْرِمُl-muj'rimuthe criminalلَوْlawifيَفْتَدِيyaftadīhe (could be) ransomedمِنْminfromعَذَابِʿadhābi(the) punishmentيَوْمِئِذٍyawmi-idhin(of) that Dayبِبَنِيهِbibanīhiby his children
- 12وَصَاحِبَتِهِwaṣāḥibatihiAnd his spouseوَأَخِيهِwa-akhīhiand his brother
- 13وَفَصِيلَتِهِwafaṣīlatihiAnd his nearest kindredالَّتِيallatīwhoتُءْوِيهِtu'wīhisheltered him
- 14وَمَنْwamanAnd whoeverفِيfī(is) onالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthجَمِيعًاjamīʿanallثُمَّthummathenيُنْجِيهِyunjīhiit (could) save him
- 15كَلَّاkallāBy no means!إِنَّهَاinnahāIndeed it (is)لَظَىlaẓāsurely a Flame of Hell
- 16نَزَّاعَةًnazzāʿatanA removerلِلشَّوَىlilshawāof the skin of the head
- 17تَدْعُواtadʿūInvitingمَنْman(him) whoأَدْبَرَadbaraturned his backوَتَوَلَّىwatawallāand went away
- 18وَجَمَعَwajamaʿaAnd collectedفَأَوْعَىfa-awʿāand hoarded
- 19إِنَّinnaIndeedالْإِنْسَانَl-insānathe manخُلِقَkhuliqawas createdهَلُوعًاhalūʿananxious
- 20إِذَاidhāWhenمَسَّهُmassahutouches himالشَّرُّl-sharuthe evilجَزُوعًاjazūʿandistressed
- 21وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenمَسَّهُmassahutouches himالْخَيْرُl-khayruthe goodمَنُوعًاmanūʿanwithholding
- 22إِلَّاillāExceptالْمُصَلِّينَl-muṣalīnathose who pray
- 23الَّذِينَalladhīnaThose whoهُمْhum[they]عَلَىʿalāatصَلَاتِهِمْṣalātihimtheir prayerدَائِمُونَdāimūna(are) constant
- 24وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoفِيfīinأَمْوَالِهِمْamwālihimtheir wealthحَقٌّḥaqqun(is) a rightمَعْلُومٌmaʿlūmunknown
- 25لِلسَّائِلِlilssāiliFor the one who asksوَالْمَحْرُومِwal-maḥrūmiand the deprived
- 26وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoيُصَدِّقُونَyuṣaddiqūnaaccept (the) truthبِيَوْمِbiyawmi(of the) Dayالدِّينِl-dīni(of) the Judgment
- 27وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoهُمْhum[they]مِنْminofعَذَابِʿadhābi(the) punishmentرَبِّهِمْrabbihim(of) their Lordمُشْفِقُونَmush'fiqūna(are) fearful
- 28إِنَّinnaIndeedعَذَابَʿadhāba(the) punishmentرَبِّهِمْrabbihim(of) your Lordغَيْرُghayru(is) notمَأْمُونٍmamūninto be felt secure (of)
- 29وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoهُمْhum[they]لِفُرُوجِهِمْlifurūjihimtheir modestyحَافِظُونَḥāfiẓūna(are) guardians
- 30إِلَّاillāExceptعَلَىʿalāfromأَزْوَاجِهِمْazwājihimtheir spousesأَوْaworمَاmāwhatمَلَكَتْmalakatthey possessأَيْمَانُهُمْaymānuhumrightfullyفَإِنَّهُمْfa-innahumthen indeed, theyغَيْرُghayru(are) notمَلُومِينَmalūmīnablameworthy
- 31فَمَنِfamaniBut whoeverابْتَغَىib'taghāseeksوَرَاءَwarāabeyondذَلِكَdhālikathatفَأُولَئِكَfa-ulāikathen thoseهُمُhumu[they]الْعَادُونَl-ʿādūna(are) the transgressors
- 32وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoهُمْhum[they]لِأَمَانَاتِهِمْli-amānātihimof their trustsوَعَهْدِهِمْwaʿahdihimand their promiseرَاعُونَrāʿūna(are) observers
- 33وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoهُمْhum[they]بِشَهَادَاتِهِمْbishahādātihimin their testimoniesقَائِمُونَqāimūnastand firm
- 34وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoهُمْhum[they]عَلَىʿalāonصَلَاتِهِمْṣalātihimtheir prayerيُحَافِظُونَyuḥāfiẓūnakeep a guard
- 35أُولَئِكَulāikaThoseفِيfī(will be) inجَنَّاتٍjannātinGardensمُكْرَمُونَmuk'ramūnahonored
- 36فَمَالِfamāliSo what is withالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelieveقِبَلَكَqibalakabefore youمُهْطِعِينَmuh'ṭiʿīna(they) hasten
- 37عَنِʿaniOnالْيَمِينِl-yamīnithe rightوَعَنِwaʿaniand onالشِّمَالِl-shimālithe leftعِزِينَʿizīna(in) separate groups
- 38أَيَطْمَعُayaṭmaʿuDoes longكُلُّkullueveryامْرِئٍim'ri-inpersonمِنْهُمْmin'humamong themأَنْanthatيُدْخَلَyud'khalahe entersجَنَّةَjannataa Gardenنَعِيمٍnaʿīmin(of) Delight
- 39كَلَّاkallāBy no means!إِنَّاinnāIndeed Weخَلَقْنَاهُمْkhalaqnāhum[We] have created themمِمَّاmimmāfrom whatيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnathey know
- 40فَلَاfalāBut nay!أُقْسِمُuq'simuI swearبِرَبِّbirabbiby (the) Lordالْمَشَارِقِl-mashāriqi(of) the risingوَالْمَغَارِبِwal-maghāribiand the settingsإِنَّاinnāthat Weلَقَادِرُونَlaqādirūna(are) surely Able
- 41عَلَىʿalāToأَنْanthatنُبَدِّلَnubaddilaWe replaceخَيْرًاkhayran(with) betterمِنْهُمْmin'humthan them;وَمَاwamāand notنَحْنُnaḥnuWeبِمَسْبُوقِينَbimasbūqīna(are) to be outrun
- 42فَذَرْهُمْfadharhumSo leave themيَخُوضُواyakhūḍū(to) converse vainlyوَيَلْعَبُواwayalʿabūand amuse themselvesحَتَّىḥattāuntilيُلَاقُواyulāqūthey meetيَوْمَهُمُyawmahumutheir Dayالَّذِيalladhīwhichيُوعَدُونَyūʿadūnathey are promised
- 43يَوْمَyawma(The) Dayيَخْرُجُونَyakhrujūnathey will come outمِنَminafromالْأَجْدَاثِl-ajdāthithe gravesسِرَاعًاsirāʿanrapidlyكَأَنَّهُمْka-annahumas if they (were)إِلَىilātoنُصُبٍnuṣubina goalيُوفِضُونَyūfiḍūnahastening
- 44خَاشِعَةًkhāshiʿatanHumbledأَبْصَارُهُمْabṣāruhumtheir eyesتَرْهَقُهُمْtarhaquhumwill cover themذِلَّةٌdhillatunhumiliationذَلِكَdhālikaThatالْيَوْمُl-yawmu(is) the Dayالَّذِيalladhīwhichكَانُواkānūthey wereيُوعَدُونَyūʿadūnapromised
