بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Surah 66 — At-Tahrim

  1. 1يَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāOالنَّبِيُّl-nabiyuProphetلِمَlimaWhy (do)تُحَرِّمُtuḥarrimuyou prohibitمَاwhatأَحَلَّaḥallahas made lawfulاللَّهُl-lahuAllahلَكَlakafor youتَبْتَغِيtabtaghīseekingمَرْضَاتَmarḍāta(to) pleaseأَزْوَاجِكَazwājikayour wivesوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahغَفُورٌghafūrun(is) Oft-ForgivingرَحِيمٌraḥīmunMost Merciful
  2. 2قَدْqadIndeedفَرَضَfaraḍahas ordainedاللَّهُl-lahuAllahلَكُمْlakumfor youتَحِلَّةَtaḥillata(the) dissolutionأَيْمَانِكُمْaymānikum(of) your oathsوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahمَوْلَاكُمْmawlākum(is) your Protectorوَهُوَwahuwaand Heالْعَلِيمُl-ʿalīmu(is) the All-Knowerالْحَكِيمُl-ḥakīmuthe All-Wise
  3. 3وَإِذْwa-idhAnd whenأَسَرَّasarraconfidedالنَّبِيُّl-nabiyuthe Prophetإِلَىilātoبَعْضِbaʿḍioneأَزْوَاجِهِazwājihi(of) his wivesحَدِيثًاḥadīthana statementفَلَمَّاfalammāand whenنَبَّأَتْnabba-atshe informedبِهِbihiabout itوَأَظْهَرَهُwa-aẓharahuand made it apparentاللَّهُl-lahuAllahعَلَيْهِʿalayhito himعَرَّفَʿarrafahe made knownبَعْضَهُbaʿḍahua part of itوَأَعْرَضَwa-aʿraḍaand avoidedعَنْʿan[of]بَعْضٍbaʿḍina partفَلَمَّاfalammāThen whenنَبَّأَهَاnabba-ahāhe informed herبِهِbihiabout itقَالَتْqālatshe saidمَنْmanWhoأَنْبَأَكَanba-akainformed youهَذَاhādhāthisقَالَqālaHe saidنَبَّأَنِيَnabba-aniyaHas informed meالْعَلِيمُl-ʿalīmuthe All-Knowerالْخَبِيرُl-khabīruthe All-Aware
  4. 4إِنْinIfتَتُوبَاtatūbāyou both turnإِلَىilātoاللَّهِl-lahiAllahفَقَدْfaqadso indeedصَغَتْṣaghat(are) inclinedقُلُوبُكُمَاqulūbukumāyour hearts;وَإِنْwa-inbut ifتَظَاهَرَاtaẓāharāyou backup each otherعَلَيْهِʿalayhiagainst himفَإِنَّfa-innathen indeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahهُوَhuwaHeمَوْلَاهُmawlāhu(is) his Protectorوَجِبْرِيلُwajib'rīluand Jibreelوَصَالِحُwaṣāliḥuand (the) righteousالْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnabelieversوَالْمَلَائِكَةُwal-malāikatuand the Angelsبَعْدَbaʿdaafterذَلِكَdhālikathatظَهِيرٌẓahīrun(are his) assistants
  5. 5عَسَىʿasāPerhapsرَبُّهُrabbuhuhis Lordإِنْinifطَلَّقَكُنَّṭallaqakunnahe divorced youأَنْan[that]يُبْدِلَهُyub'dilahuHe will substitute for himأَزْوَاجًاazwājanwivesخَيْرًاkhayranbetterمِنْكُنَّminkunnathan youمُسْلِمَاتٍmus'limātinsubmissiveمُؤْمِنَاتٍmu'minātinfaithfulقَانِتَاتٍqānitātinobedientتَائِبَاتٍtāibātinrepentantعَابِدَاتٍʿābidātinwho worshipسَائِحَاتٍsāiḥātinwho fastثَيِّبَاتٍthayyibātinpreviously marriedوَأَبْكَارًاwa-abkāranand virgins
  6. 6يَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāOالَّذِينَalladhīna(you) whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveقُواProtectأَنْفُسَكُمْanfusakumyourselvesوَأَهْلِيكُمْwa-ahlīkumand your familiesنَارًاnāran(from) a Fireوَقُودُهَاwaqūduhāwhose fuelالنَّاسُl-nāsu(is) peopleوَالْحِجَارَةُwal-ḥijāratuand stonesعَلَيْهَاʿalayhāover itمَلَائِكَةٌmalāikatun(are) Angelsغِلَاظٌghilāẓunsternشِدَادٌshidādunsevereلَاnotيَعْصُونَyaʿṣūnathey disobeyاللَّهَl-lahaAllahمَا(in) whatأَمَرَهُمْamarahumHe Commands themوَيَفْعَلُونَwayafʿalūnabut they doمَاwhatيُؤْمَرُونَyu'marūnathey are commanded
  7. 7يَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāOالَّذِينَalladhīna(you) whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelieveلَا(Do) notتَعْتَذِرُواtaʿtadhirūmake excusesالْيَوْمَl-yawmatodayإِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyتُجْزَوْنَtuj'zawnayou will be recompensedمَا(for) whatكُنْتُمْkuntumyou used (to)تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnado
  8. 8يَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāOالَّذِينَalladhīna(you) who believeءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveتُوبُواtūbūTurnإِلَىilātoاللَّهِl-lahiAllahتَوْبَةًtawbatan(in) repentanceنَصُوحًاnaṣūḥansincereعَسَىʿasāPerhapsرَبُّكُمْrabbukumyour Lordأَنْan[that]يُكَفِّرَyukaffirawill removeعَنْكُمْʿankumfrom youسَيِّئَاتِكُمْsayyiātikumyour misdeedsوَيُدْخِلَكُمْwayud'khilakumand admit youجَنَّاتٍjannātin(into) Gardensتَجْرِيtajrīflowمِنْminfromتَحْتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath itالْأَنْهَارُl-anhāruthe riversيَوْمَyawma(on the) Dayلَاnotيُخْزِيyukh'zīwill be disgracedاللَّهُl-lahu(by) Allahالنَّبِيَّl-nabiyathe Prophetوَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaand those whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelievedمَعَهُmaʿahuwith himنُورُهُمْnūruhumTheir lightيَسْعَىyasʿāwill runبَيْنَbaynabeforeأَيْدِيهِمْaydīhimtheir handsوَبِأَيْمَانِهِمْwabi-aymānihimand on their rightيَقُولُونَyaqūlūnathey will sayرَبَّنَاrabbanāOur LordأَتْمِمْatmimPerfectلَنَاlanāfor usنُورَنَاnūranāour lightوَاغْفِرْwa-igh'firand grant forgivenessلَنَاlanāto usإِنَّكَinnakaIndeed, Youعَلَىʿalā(are) overكُلِّkullieveryشَيْءٍshayinthingقَدِيرٌqadīrunAll-Powerful
  9. 9يَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāOالنَّبِيُّl-nabiyuProphetجَاهِدِjāhidiStriveالْكُفَّارَl-kufāra(against) the disbelieversوَالْمُنَافِقِينَwal-munāfiqīnaand the hypocritesوَاغْلُظْwa-ugh'luẓand be sternعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimwith themوَمَأْوَاهُمْwamawāhumAnd their abodeجَهَنَّمُjahannamu(is) Hellوَبِئْسَwabi'saand wretched isالْمَصِيرُl-maṣīruthe destination
  10. 10ضَرَبَḍarabaPresentsاللَّهُl-lahuAllahمَثَلًاmathalanan exampleلِلَّذِينَlilladhīnafor those whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelievedامْرَأَتَim'ra-ata(the) wifeنُوحٍnūḥin(of) Nuhوَامْرَأَتَwa-im'ra-ata(and the) wifeلُوطٍlūṭin(of) LutكَانَتَاkānatāThey wereتَحْتَtaḥtaunderعَبْدَيْنِʿabdaynitwo [slaves]مِنْminofعِبَادِنَاʿibādināOur slavesصَالِحَيْنِṣāliḥaynirighteousفَخَانَتَاهُمَاfakhānatāhumābut they both betrayed themفَلَمْfalamso notيُغْنِيَاyugh'niyāthey availedعَنْهُمَاʿanhumāboth of themمِنَminafromاللَّهِl-lahiAllahشَيْئًاshayan(in) anythingوَقِيلَwaqīlaand it was saidادْخُلَاud'khulāEnterالنَّارَl-nārathe Fireمَعَmaʿawithالدَّاخِلِينَl-dākhilīnathose who enter
  11. 11وَضَرَبَwaḍarabaAnd presentsاللَّهُl-lahuAllahمَثَلًاmathalanan exampleلِلَّذِينَlilladhīnafor those whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelievedامْرَأَتَim'ra-ata(the) wifeفِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawna(of) Firaunإِذْidhwhenقَالَتْqālatshe saidرَبِّrabbiMy Lordابْنِib'niBuildلِيfor meعِنْدَكَʿindakanear Youبَيْتًاbaytana houseفِيinالْجَنَّةِl-janatiParadiseوَنَجِّنِيwanajjinīand save meمِنْminfromفِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawnaFiraunوَعَمَلِهِwaʿamalihiand his deedsوَنَجِّنِيwanajjinīand save meمِنَminafromالْقَوْمِl-qawmithe peopleالظَّالِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers
  12. 12وَمَرْيَمَwamaryamaAnd Maryamابْنَتَib'nata(the) daughterعِمْرَانَʿim'rāna(of) Imranالَّتِيallatīwhoأَحْصَنَتْaḥṣanatguardedفَرْجَهَاfarjahāher chastityفَنَفَخْنَاfanafakhnāso We breathedفِيهِfīhiinto itمِنْminofرُوحِنَاrūḥināOur SpiritوَصَدَّقَتْwaṣaddaqatAnd she believedبِكَلِمَاتِbikalimāti(in the) Wordsرَبِّهَاrabbihā(of) her Lordوَكُتُبِهِwakutubihiand His Booksوَكَانَتْwakānatand she wasمِنَminaofالْقَانِتِينَl-qānitīnathe devoutly obedient
