Surah 65 — At-Talaaq

1. 1يَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāOالنَّبِيُّl-nabiyuProphetإِذَاidhāWhenطَلَّقْتُمُṭallaqtumuyou divorceالنِّسَاءَl-nisāa[the] womenفَطَلِّقُوهُنَّfaṭalliqūhunnathen divorce themلِعِدَّتِهِنَّliʿiddatihinnafor their waiting periodوَأَحْصُواwa-aḥṣūand keep countالْعِدَّةَl-ʿidata(of) the waiting periodوَاتَّقُواwa-ittaqūand fearاللَّهَl-lahaAllahرَبَّكُمْrabbakumyour Lordلَاlā(Do) notتُخْرِجُوهُنَّtukh'rijūhunnaexpel themمِنْminfromبُيُوتِهِنَّbuyūtihinnatheir housesوَلَاwalāand notيَخْرُجْنَyakhruj'nathey should leaveإِلَّاillāexceptأَنْanthatيَأْتِينَyatīnathey commitبِفَاحِشَةٍbifāḥishatinan immoralityمُبَيِّنَةٍmubayyinatinclearوَتِلْكَwatil'kaAnd theseحُدُودُḥudūdu(are the) limitsاللَّهِl-lahi(of) AllahوَمَنْwamanAnd whoeverيَتَعَدَّyataʿaddatransgressesحُدُودَḥudūda(the) limitsاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahفَقَدْfaqadthen certainlyظَلَمَẓalamahe has wrongedنَفْسَهُnafsahuhimselfلَاlāNotتَدْرِيtadrīyou knowلَعَلَّlaʿallaPerhapsاللَّهَl-lahaAllahيُحْدِثُyuḥ'dithuwill bring aboutبَعْدَbaʿdaafterذَلِكَdhālikathatأَمْرًاamrana matter
2. 2فَإِذَاfa-idhāThen whenبَلَغْنَbalaghnathey have reachedأَجَلَهُنَّajalahunnatheir termفَأَمْسِكُوهُنَّfa-amsikūhunnathen retain themبِمَعْرُوفٍbimaʿrūfinwith kindnessأَوْaworفَارِقُوهُنَّfāriqūhunnapart with themبِمَعْرُوفٍbimaʿrūfinwith kindnessوَأَشْهِدُواwa-ashhidūAnd take witnessذَوَيْdhawaytwo menعَدْلٍʿadlinjustمِنْكُمْminkumamong youوَأَقِيمُواwa-aqīmūand establishالشَّهَادَةَl-shahādatathe testimonyلِلَّهِlillahifor AllahذَلِكُمْdhālikumThatيُوعَظُyūʿaẓuis instructedبِهِbihiwith itمَنْmanwhoeverكَانَkāna[is]يُؤْمِنُyu'minubelievesبِاللَّهِbil-lahiin Allahوَالْيَوْمِwal-yawmiand the Dayالْءَاخِرِl-ākhirithe LastوَمَنْwamanAnd whoeverيَتَّقِyattaqifearsاللَّهَl-lahaAllahيَجْعَلْyajʿalHe will makeلَهُlahufor himمَخْرَجًاmakhrajana way out
3. 3وَيَرْزُقْهُwayarzuq'huAnd He will provide for himمِنْminfromحَيْثُḥaythuwhereلَاlānotيَحْتَسِبُyaḥtasibuhe thinksوَمَنْwamanAnd whoeverيَتَوَكَّلْyatawakkalputs his trustعَلَىʿalāuponاللَّهِl-lahiAllahفَهُوَfahuwathen Heحَسْبُهُḥasbuhu(is) sufficient for himإِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahبَالِغُbālighu(will) accomplishأَمْرِهِamrihiHis purposeقَدْqadIndeedجَعَلَjaʿalahas setاللَّهُl-lahuAllahلِكُلِّlikullifor everyشَيْءٍshayinthingقَدْرًاqadrana measure
4. 4وَاللَّائِيwa-allāīAnd those whoيَئِسْنَya-is'nahave despairedمِنَminaofالْمَحِيضِl-maḥīḍithe menstruationمِنْminamongنِسَائِكُمْnisāikumyour womenإِنِiniifارْتَبْتُمْir'tabtumyou doubtفَعِدَّتُهُنَّfaʿiddatuhunnathen their waiting periodثَلَاثَةُthalāthatu(is) threeأَشْهُرٍashhurinmonthsوَاللَّائِيwa-allāīand the ones whoلَمْlamnotيَحِضْنَyaḥiḍ'na[they] menstruatedوَأُولَاتُwa-ulātuAnd those who (are)الْأَحْمَالِl-aḥmālipregnantأَجَلُهُنَّajaluhunnatheir term (is)أَنْanuntilيَضَعْنَyaḍaʿnathey deliverحَمْلَهُنَّḥamlahunnatheir burdensوَمَنْwamanAnd whoeverيَتَّقِyattaqifearsاللَّهَl-lahaAllahيَجْعَلْyajʿalHe will makeلَهُlahufor himمِنْminofأَمْرِهِamrihihis affairيُسْرًاyus'ranease
5. 5ذَلِكَdhālikaThatأَمْرُamru(is the) Commandاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahأَنْزَلَهُanzalahuwhich He has sent downإِلَيْكُمْilaykumto youوَمَنْwamanand whoeverيَتَّقِyattaqifearsاللَّهَl-lahaAllahيُكَفِّرْyukaffirHe will removeعَنْهُʿanhufrom himسَيِّئَاتِهِsayyiātihihis misdeedsوَيُعْظِمْwayuʿ'ẓimand make greatلَهُlahufor himأَجْرًاajran(his) reward
6. 6أَسْكِنُوهُنَّaskinūhunnaLodge themمِنْminfromحَيْثُḥaythuwhereسَكَنْتُمْsakantumyou dwellمِنْmin(out) ofوُجْدِكُمْwuj'dikumyour meansوَلَاwalāand (do) notتُضَارُّوهُنَّtuḍārrūhunnaharm themلِتُضَيِّقُواlituḍayyiqūto distressعَلَيْهِنَّʿalayhinna[on] themوَإِنْwa-inAnd ifكُنَّkunnathey areأُولَاتِulātithose (who are)حَمْلٍḥamlinpregnantفَأَنْفِقُواfa-anfiqūthen spendعَلَيْهِنَّʿalayhinnaon themحَتَّىḥattāuntilيَضَعْنَyaḍaʿnathey deliverحَمْلَهُنَّḥamlahunnatheir burdenفَإِنْfa-inThen ifأَرْضَعْنَarḍaʿnathey suckleلَكُمْlakumfor youفَءَاتُوهُنَّfaātūhunnathen give themأُجُورَهُنَّujūrahunnatheir paymentوَأْتَمِرُواwatamirūand consultبَيْنَكُمْbaynakumamong yourselvesبِمَعْرُوفٍbimaʿrūfinwith kindnessوَإِنْwa-inbut ifتَعَاسَرْتُمْtaʿāsartumyou disagreeفَسَتُرْضِعُfasatur'ḍiʿuthen may suckleلَهُlahufor himأُخْرَىukh'rāanother (women)
7. 7لِيُنْفِقْliyunfiqLet spendذُوdhūownerسَعَةٍsaʿatin(of) ample meansمِنْminfromسَعَتِهِsaʿatihihis ample meansوَمَنْwamanand (he) whoقُدِرَqudirais restrictedعَلَيْهِʿalayhion himرِزْقُهُriz'quhuhis provisionفَلْيُنْفِقْfalyunfiqlet him spendمِمَّاmimmāfrom whatءَاتَاهُātāhuhe has been givenاللَّهُl-lahu(by) AllahلَاlāDoes notيُكَلِّفُyukallifuburdenاللَّهُl-lahuAllahنَفْسًاnafsanany soulإِلَّاillāexceptمَاmā(with) whatءَاتَاهَاātāhāHe has given itسَيَجْعَلُsayajʿaluWill bring aboutاللَّهُl-lahuAllahبَعْدَbaʿdaafterعُسْرٍʿus'rinhardshipيُسْرًاyus'ranease
8. 8وَكَأَيِّنْwaka-ayyinAnd how manyمِنْminofقَرْيَةٍqaryatina townعَتَتْʿatatrebelledعَنْʿanagainstأَمْرِamri(the) Commandرَبِّهَاrabbihā(of) its Lordوَرُسُلِهِwarusulihiand His Messengersفَحَاسَبْنَاهَاfaḥāsabnāhāso We took it to accountحِسَابًاḥisābanan accountشَدِيدًاshadīdansevere;وَعَذَّبْنَاهَاwaʿadhabnāhāand We punished itعَذَابًاʿadhābana punishmentنُكْرًاnuk'ranterrible
9. 9فَذَاقَتْfadhāqatSo it tastedوَبَالَwabāla(the) bad consequenceأَمْرِهَاamrihā(of) its affairوَكَانَwakānaand wasعَاقِبَةُʿāqibatu(the) endأَمْرِهَاamrihā(of) its affairخُسْرًاkhus'ranloss
10. 10أَعَدَّaʿaddaHas preparedاللَّهُl-lahuAllahلَهُمْlahumfor themعَذَابًاʿadhābana punishmentشَدِيدًاshadīdansevereفَاتَّقُواfa-ittaqūSo fearاللَّهَl-lahaAllahيَاأُولِيyāulīO menالْأَلْبَابِl-albābi(of) understandingالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُواāmanūhave believedقَدْqadIndeedأَنْزَلَanzalaHas sent downاللَّهُl-lahuAllahإِلَيْكُمْilaykumto youذِكْرًاdhik'rana Message
11. 11رَسُولًاrasūlanA Messengerيَتْلُواyatlūrecitingعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumto youءَايَاتِāyāti(the) Versesاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahمُبَيِّنَاتٍmubayyinātinclearلِيُخْرِجَliyukh'rijathat he may bring outالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveوَعَمِلُواwaʿamilūand doالصَّالِحَاتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deedsمِنَminafromالظُّلُمَاتِl-ẓulumātithe darkness[es]إِلَىilātowardsالنُّورِl-nūrithe lightوَمَنْwamanAnd whoeverيُؤْمِنْyu'minbelievesبِاللَّهِbil-lahiin Allahوَيَعْمَلْwayaʿmaland doesصَالِحًاṣāliḥanrighteousnessيُدْخِلْهُyud'khil'huHe will admit himجَنَّاتٍjannātin(into) Gardensتَجْرِيtajrīflowمِنْminfromتَحْتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath itالْأَنْهَارُl-anhāruthe riversخَالِدِينَkhālidīnaabidingفِيهَاfīhāthereinأَبَدًاabadanforeverقَدْqadIndeedأَحْسَنَaḥsanaHas been (granted) goodاللَّهُl-lahu(by) Allahلَهُlahufor himرِزْقًاriz'qanprovision
12. 12اللَّهُal-lahuAllahالَّذِيalladhī(is) He Whoخَلَقَkhalaqacreatedسَبْعَsabʿasevenسَمَاوَاتٍsamāwātinheavensوَمِنَwaminaand ofالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthمِثْلَهُنَّmith'lahunna(the) like of themيَتَنَزَّلُyatanazzaluDescendsالْأَمْرُl-amruthe commandبَيْنَهُنَّbaynahunnabetween themلِتَعْلَمُواlitaʿlamūthat you may knowأَنَّannathatاللَّهَl-lahaAllahعَلَىʿalā(is) onكُلِّkullieveryشَيْءٍshayinthingقَدِيرٌqadīrunAll-Powerfulوَأَنَّwa-annaAnd thatاللَّهَl-lahaAllahقَدْqadindeedأَحَاطَaḥāṭaencompassesبِكُلِّbikulliallشَيْءٍshayinthingsعِلْمًاʿil'man(in) knowledge
