Surah 58 — Al-Mujaadila

1. 1قَدْqadIndeedسَمِعَsamiʿahas heardاللَّهُl-lahuAllahقَوْلَqawla(the) speechالَّتِيallatī(of) one whoتُجَادِلُكَtujādilukadisputes with youفِيfīconcerningزَوْجِهَاzawjihāher husbandوَتَشْتَكِيwatashtakīand she directs her complaintإِلَىilātoاللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahيَسْمَعُyasmaʿuhearsتَحَاوُرَكُمَاtaḥāwurakumā(the) dialogue of both of youإِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahسَمِيعٌsamīʿun(is) All-HearerبَصِيرٌbaṣīrunAll-Seer
2. 2الَّذِينَalladhīnaThose whoيُظَاهِرُونَyuẓāhirūnapronounce ziharمِنْكُمْminkumamong youمِنْmin[from]نِسَائِهِمْnisāihim(to) their wivesمَاmānotهُنَّhunnatheyأُمَّهَاتِهِمْummahātihim(are) their mothersإِنْinNotأُمَّهَاتُهُمْummahātuhum(are) their mothersإِلَّاillāexceptاللَّائِيallāīthose whoوَلَدْنَهُمْwaladnahumgave them birthوَإِنَّهُمْwa-innahumAnd indeed theyلَيَقُولُونَlayaqūlūnasurely sayمُنْكَرًاmunkaranan evilمِنَmina[of]الْقَوْلِl-qawli[the] wordوَزُورًاwazūranand a lieوَإِنَّwa-innaBut indeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahلَعَفُوٌّlaʿafuwwun(is) surely Oft-PardoningغَفُورٌghafūrunOft-Forgiving
3. 3وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoيُظَاهِرُونَyuẓāhirūnapronounce ziharمِنْmin[from]نِسَائِهِمْnisāihim(to) their wivesثُمَّthummathenيَعُودُونَyaʿūdūnago backلِمَاlimāon whatقَالُواqālūthey saidفَتَحْرِيرُfataḥrīruthen freeingرَقَبَةٍraqabatin(of) a slaveمِنْminbeforeقَبْلِqablibeforeأَنْan[that]يَتَمَاسَّاyatamāssāthey touch each otherذَلِكُمْdhālikumThatتُوعَظُونَtūʿaẓūnayou are admonishedبِهِbihito itوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahبِمَاbimāof whatتَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnayou doخَبِيرٌkhabīrun(is) All-Aware
4. 4فَمَنْfamanThen whoeverلَمْlam(does) notيَجِدْyajidfindفَصِيَامُfaṣiyāmuthen fastingشَهْرَيْنِshahrayni(for) two monthsمُتَتَابِعَيْنِmutatābiʿayniconsecutivelyمِنْminbeforeقَبْلِqablibeforeأَنْan[that]يَتَمَاسَّاyatamāssāthey both touch each otherفَمَنْfamanBut (he) whoلَمْlamnotيَسْتَطِعْyastaṭiʿis ableفَإِطْعَامُfa-iṭ'ʿāmuthen (the) feedingسِتِّينَsittīna(of) sixtyمِسْكِينًاmis'kīnanneedy one(s)ذَلِكَdhālikaThatلِتُؤْمِنُواlitu'minūso that you may believeبِاللَّهِbil-lahiin Allahوَرَسُولِهِwarasūlihiand His Messengerوَتِلْكَwatil'kaand theseحُدُودُḥudūdu(are the) limitsاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahوَلِلْكَافِرِينَwalil'kāfirīnaand for the disbelieversعَذَابٌʿadhābun(is) a punishmentأَلِيمٌalīmunpainful
5. 5إِنَّinnaIndeedالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoيُحَادُّونَyuḥāddūnaopposeاللَّهَl-lahaAllahوَرَسُولَهُwarasūlahuand His Messengerكُبِتُواkubitū(will) be disgracedكَمَاkamāasكُبِتَkubitawere disgracedالَّذِينَalladhīnathoseمِنْminbefore themقَبْلِهِمْqablihimbefore themوَقَدْwaqadAnd certainlyأَنْزَلْنَاanzalnāWe have sent downءَايَاتٍāyātinVersesبَيِّنَاتٍbayyinātinclearوَلِلْكَافِرِينَwalil'kāfirīnaAnd for the disbelieversعَذَابٌʿadhābun(is) a punishmentمُهِينٌmuhīnunhumiliating
6. 6يَوْمَyawma(On the) Dayيَبْعَثُهُمُyabʿathuhumu(when) Allah will raise themاللَّهُl-lahu(when) Allah will raise themجَمِيعًاjamīʿanallفَيُنَبِّئُهُمْfayunabbi-uhumand inform themبِمَاbimāof whatعَمِلُواʿamilūthey didأَحْصَاهُaḥṣāhuAllah has recorded itاللَّهُl-lahuAllah has recorded itوَنَسُوهُwanasūhuwhile they forgot itوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahعَلَىʿalā(is) overكُلِّkulliallشَيْءٍshayinthingsشَهِيدٌshahīduna Witness
7. 7أَلَمْalamDo notتَرَtarayou seeأَنَّannathatاللَّهَl-lahaAllahيَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknowsمَاmāwhateverفِيfī(is) inالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَمَاwamāand whateverفِيfī(is) inالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthمَاmāNotيَكُونُyakūnuthere isمِنْminanyنَجْوَىnajwāsecret counselثَلَاثَةٍthalāthatin(of) threeإِلَّاillābutهُوَhuwaHe (is)رَابِعُهُمْrābiʿuhum(the) fourth of themوَلَاwalāand notخَمْسَةٍkhamsatinfiveإِلَّاillābutهُوَhuwaHe (is)سَادِسُهُمْsādisuhum(the) sixth of themوَلَاwalāand notأَدْنَىadnālessمِنْminthanذَلِكَdhālikathatوَلَاwalāand notأَكْثَرَaktharamoreإِلَّاillābutهُوَhuwaHeمَعَهُمْmaʿahum(is) with themأَيْنَaynawhereverمَاmāwhereverكَانُواkānūthey areثُمَّthummaThenيُنَبِّئُهُمْyunabbi-uhumHe will inform themبِمَاbimāof whatعَمِلُواʿamilūthey didيَوْمَyawma(on the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the ResurrectionإِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahبِكُلِّbikulliof everyشَيْءٍshayinthingعَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) All-Knower
8. 8أَلَمْalamDo notتَرَtarayou seeإِلَىilā[to]الَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoنُهُواnuhūwere forbiddenعَنِʿanifromالنَّجْوَىl-najwāsecret counselsثُمَّthummathenيَعُودُونَyaʿūdūnathey returnلِمَاlimāto whatنُهُواnuhūthey were forbiddenعَنْهُʿanhufrom [it]وَيَتَنَاجَوْنَwayatanājawnaand they hold secret counselsبِالْإِثْمِbil-ith'mifor sinوَالْعُدْوَانِwal-ʿud'wāniand aggressionوَمَعْصِيَتِwamaʿṣiyatiand disobedienceالرَّسُولِl-rasūli(to) the Messengerوَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenجَاءُوكَjāūkathey come to youحَيَّوْكَḥayyawkathey greet youبِمَاbimāwith whatلَمْlamnotيُحَيِّكَyuḥayyikagreets youبِهِbihitherewithاللَّهُl-lahuAllahوَيَقُولُونَwayaqūlūnaand they sayفِيfīamongأَنْفُسِهِمْanfusihimthemselvesلَوْلَاlawlāWhy (does) notيُعَذِّبُنَاyuʿadhibunāAllah punish usاللَّهُl-lahuAllah punish usبِمَاbimāfor whatنَقُولُnaqūluwe sayحَسْبُهُمْḥasbuhumSufficient (for) themجَهَنَّمُjahannamu(is) Hellيَصْلَوْنَهَاyaṣlawnahāthey will burn in itفَبِئْسَfabi'saand worst isالْمَصِيرُl-maṣīruthe destination
9. 9يَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you who believeالَّذِينَalladhīnaO you who believeءَامَنُواāmanūO you who believeإِذَاidhāWhenتَنَاجَيْتُمْtanājaytumyou hold secret counselفَلَاfalāthen (do) notتَتَنَاجَوْاtatanājawhold secret counselبِالْإِثْمِbil-ith'mifor sinوَالْعُدْوَانِwal-ʿud'wāniand aggressionوَمَعْصِيَتِwamaʿṣiyatiand disobedienceالرَّسُولِl-rasūli(to) the Messengerوَتَنَاجَوْاwatanājawbut hold secret counselبِالْبِرِّbil-birifor righteousnessوَالتَّقْوَىwal-taqwāand pietyوَاتَّقُواwa-ittaqūAnd fearاللَّهَl-lahaAllahالَّذِيalladhīthe One Whoإِلَيْهِilayhito Himتُحْشَرُونَtuḥ'sharūnayou will be gathered
10. 10إِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyالنَّجْوَىl-najwāthe secret counselsمِنَmina(are) fromالشَّيْطَانِl-shayṭānithe Shaitaanلِيَحْزُنَliyaḥzunathat he may grieveالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveوَلَيْسَwalaysabut notبِضَارِّهِمْbiḍārrihimhe (can) harm themشَيْئًاshayan(in) anythingإِلَّاillāexceptبِإِذْنِbi-idh'niby (Allah's) permissionاللَّهِl-lahi(by) Allah's (permission)وَعَلَىwaʿalāAnd uponاللَّهِl-lahiAllahفَلْيَتَوَكَّلِfalyatawakkalilet put (their) trustالْمُؤْمِنُونَl-mu'minūnathe believers
11. 11يَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you who believeالَّذِينَalladhīnaO you who believeءَامَنُواāmanūO you who believeإِذَاidhāWhenقِيلَqīlait is saidلَكُمْlakumto youتَفَسَّحُواtafassaḥūMake roomفِيfīinالْمَجَالِسِl-majālisithe assembliesفَافْسَحُواfa-if'saḥūthen make roomيَفْسَحِyafsaḥiAllah will make roomاللَّهُl-lahuAllah will make roomلَكُمْlakumfor youوَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenقِيلَqīlait is saidانْشُزُواunshuzūRise upفَانْشُزُواfa-unshuzūthen rise upيَرْفَعِyarfaʿiAllah will raiseاللَّهُl-lahuAllah will raiseالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveمِنْكُمْminkumamong youوَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaand those whoأُوتُواūtūwere givenالْعِلْمَl-ʿil'mathe knowledgeدَرَجَاتٍdarajātin(in) degreesوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahبِمَاbimāof whatتَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnayou doخَبِيرٌkhabīrun(is) All-Aware
12. 12يَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you who believeالَّذِينَalladhīnaO you who believeءَامَنُواāmanūO you who believeإِذَاidhāWhenنَاجَيْتُمُnājaytumuyou privately consultالرَّسُولَl-rasūlathe Messengerفَقَدِّمُواfaqaddimūthen offerبَيْنَbaynabeforeيَدَيْyadaybeforeنَجْوَاكُمْnajwākumyour private consultationصَدَقَةًṣadaqatancharityذَلِكَdhālikaThatخَيْرٌkhayrun(is) betterلَكُمْlakumfor youوَأَطْهَرُwa-aṭharuand purerفَإِنْfa-inBut ifلَمْlamnotتَجِدُواtajidūyou findفَإِنَّfa-innathen indeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahغَفُورٌghafūrun(is) Oft-ForgivingرَحِيمٌraḥīmunMost Merciful
13. 13ءَأَشْفَقْتُمْa-ashfaqtumAre you afraidأَنْantoتُقَدِّمُواtuqaddimūofferبَيْنَbaynabeforeيَدَيْyadaybeforeنَجْوَاكُمْnajwākumyour private consultationصَدَقَاتٍṣadaqātincharitiesفَإِذْfa-idhThen whenلَمْlamyou do notتَفْعَلُواtafʿalūyou do notوَتَابَwatābaand Allah has forgivenاللَّهُl-lahuand Allah has forgivenعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumyouفَأَقِيمُواfa-aqīmūthen establishالصَّلَوةَl-ṣalatathe prayerوَءَاتُواwaātūand giveالزَّكَوةَl-zakatathe zakahوَأَطِيعُواwa-aṭīʿūand obeyاللَّهَl-lahaAllahوَرَسُولَهُwarasūlahuand His Messengerوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahخَبِيرٌkhabīrun(is) All-Awareبِمَاbimāof whatتَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnayou do
14. 14أَلَمْalamDo notتَرَtarayou seeإِلَىilā[to]الَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoتَوَلَّوْاtawallawtake as alliesقَوْمًاqawmana peopleغَضِبَghaḍibawrathاللَّهُl-lahu(of) Allahعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhim(is) upon themمَاmāThey (are) notهُمْhumThey (are) notمِنْكُمْminkumof youوَلَاwalāand notمِنْهُمْmin'humof themوَيَحْلِفُونَwayaḥlifūnaand they swearعَلَىʿalātoالْكَذِبِl-kadhibithe lieوَهُمْwahumwhile theyيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknow
15. 15أَعَدَّaʿaddaAllah has preparedاللَّهُl-lahuAllah has preparedلَهُمْlahumfor themعَذَابًاʿadhābana punishmentشَدِيدًاshadīdansevereإِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed, [they]سَاءَsāaevil isمَاmāwhatكَانُواkānūthey used toيَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūnado
16. 16اتَّخَذُواittakhadhūThey have takenأَيْمَانَهُمْaymānahumtheir oathsجُنَّةًjunnatan(as) a coverفَصَدُّواfaṣaddūso they hinderعَنْʿanfromسَبِيلِsabīli(the) way of Allahاللَّهِl-lahi(the) way of Allahفَلَهُمْfalahumso for themعَذَابٌʿadhābun(is) a punishmentمُهِينٌmuhīnunhumiliating
17. 17لَنْlanNeverتُغْنِيَtugh'niyawill availعَنْهُمْʿanhumthemأَمْوَالُهُمْamwāluhumtheir wealthوَلَاwalāand notأَوْلَادُهُمْawlāduhumtheir childrenمِنَminaagainstاللَّهِl-lahiAllahشَيْئًاshayan(in) anythingأُولَئِكَulāikaThoseأَصْحَابُaṣḥābu(will be) companionsالنَّارِl-nāri(of) the Fireهُمْhumtheyفِيهَاfīhāin itخَالِدُونَkhālidūnawill abide forever
18. 18يَوْمَyawma(On the) DayيَبْعَثُهُمُyabʿathuhumuAllah will raise themاللَّهُl-lahuAllah will raise themجَمِيعًاjamīʿanallفَيَحْلِفُونَfayaḥlifūnathen they will swearلَهُlahuto Himكَمَاkamāasيَحْلِفُونَyaḥlifūnathey swearلَكُمْlakumto youوَيَحْسَبُونَwayaḥsabūnaAnd they thinkأَنَّهُمْannahumthat theyعَلَىʿalā(are) onشَيْءٍshayinsomethingأَلَاalāNo doubtإِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed, theyهُمُhumu[they]الْكَاذِبُونَl-kādhibūna(are) the liars
19. 19اسْتَحْوَذَis'taḥwadhaHas overcomeعَلَيْهِمُʿalayhimuthemالشَّيْطَانُl-shayṭānuthe Shaitaanفَأَنْسَاهُمْfa-ansāhumso he made them forgetذِكْرَdhik'ra(the) remembranceاللَّهِl-lahi(of) AllahأُولَئِكَulāikaThoseحِزْبُḥiz'bu(are the) partyالشَّيْطَانِl-shayṭāni(of) the ShaitaanأَلَاalāNo doubt!إِنَّinnaIndeedحِزْبَḥiz'ba(the) partyالشَّيْطَانِl-shayṭāni(of) the Shaitaanهُمُhumutheyالْخَاسِرُونَl-khāsirūna(will be) the losers
20. 20إِنَّinnaIndeedالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoيُحَادُّونَyuḥāddūnaopposeاللَّهَl-lahaAllahوَرَسُولَهُwarasūlahuand His Messengerأُولَئِكَulāikathoseفِيfī(will be) amongالْأَذَلِّينَl-adhalīnathe most humiliated
21. 21كَتَبَkatabaAllah has decreedاللَّهُl-lahuAllah has decreedلَأَغْلِبَنَّla-aghlibannaSurely, I will overcomeأَنَاanāIوَرُسُلِيwarusulīand My MessengersإِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahقَوِيٌّqawiyyun(is) All-StrongعَزِيزٌʿazīzunAll-Mighty
22. 22لَاlāNotتَجِدُtajiduYou will findقَوْمًاqawmana peopleيُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnawho believeبِاللَّهِbil-lahiin Allahوَالْيَوْمِwal-yawmiand the Dayالْءَاخِرِl-ākhirithe Lastيُوَادُّونَyuwāddūnalovingمَنْman(those) whoحَادَّḥāddaopposeاللَّهَl-lahaAllahوَرَسُولَهُwarasūlahuand His Messengerوَلَوْwalaweven ifكَانُواkānūthey wereءَابَاءَهُمْābāahumtheir fathersأَوْaworأَبْنَاءَهُمْabnāahumtheir sonsأَوْaworإِخْوَانَهُمْikh'wānahumtheir brothersأَوْaworعَشِيرَتَهُمْʿashīratahumtheir kindredأُولَئِكَulāikaThoseكَتَبَkatabaHe has decreedفِيfīwithinقُلُوبِهِمُqulūbihimutheir heartsالْإِيمَانَl-īmānafaithوَأَيَّدَهُمْwa-ayyadahumand supported themبِرُوحٍbirūḥinwith a spiritمِنْهُmin'hufrom Himوَيُدْخِلُهُمْwayud'khiluhumAnd He will admit themجَنَّاتٍjannātin(to) Gardensتَجْرِيtajrīflowمِنْminfromتَحْتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath itالْأَنْهَارُl-anhāruthe riversخَالِدِينَkhālidīnawill abide foreverفِيهَاfīhāin itرَضِيَraḍiyaAllah is pleasedاللَّهُl-lahuAllah is pleasedعَنْهُمْʿanhumwith themوَرَضُواwaraḍūand they are pleasedعَنْهُʿanhuwith HimأُولَئِكَulāikaThoseحِزْبُḥiz'bu(are the) partyاللَّهِl-lahi(of) AllahأَلَاalāNo doubtإِنَّinnaIndeedحِزْبَḥiz'ba(the) partyاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahهُمُhumutheyالْمُفْلِحُونَl-muf'liḥūna(are) the successful ones
