Surah 57 — Al-Hadid

1. 1سَبَّحَsabbaḥaGlorifiesلِلَّهِlillahi[to] Allahمَاmāwhateverفِيfī(is) inالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthوَهُوَwahuwaand Heالْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzu(is) the All-Mightyالْحَكِيمُl-ḥakīmuthe All-Wise
2. 2لَهُlahuFor Himمُلْكُmul'ku(is the) dominionالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavensوَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthيُحْيِيyuḥ'yīHe gives lifeوَيُمِيتُwayumītuand causes deathوَهُوَwahuwaand Heعَلَىʿalā(is) overكُلِّkulliallشَيْءٍshayinthingsقَدِيرٌqadīrunAll-Powerful
3. 3هُوَhuwaHeالْأَوَّلُl-awalu(is) the Firstوَالْءَاخِرُwal-ākhiruand the Lastوَالظَّاهِرُwal-ẓāhiruand the Apparentوَالْبَاطِنُwal-bāṭinuand the Unapparentوَهُوَwahuwaand Heبِكُلِّbikulli(is) of everyشَيْءٍshayinthingعَلِيمٌʿalīmunAll-Knower
4. 4هُوَhuwaHeالَّذِيalladhī(is) the One Whoخَلَقَkhalaqacreatedالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَالْأَرْضَwal-arḍaand the earthفِيfīinسِتَّةِsittatisixأَيَّامٍayyāminperiodsثُمَّthummathenاسْتَوَىis'tawāHe roseعَلَىʿalāoverالْعَرْشِl-ʿarshithe ThroneيَعْلَمُyaʿlamuHe knowsمَاmāwhatيَلِجُyalijupenetratesفِيfīin(to)الْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthوَمَاwamāand whatيَخْرُجُyakhrujucomes forthمِنْهَاmin'hāfrom itوَمَاwamāand whatيَنْزِلُyanziludescendsمِنَminafromالسَّمَاءِl-samāithe heavenوَمَاwamāand whatيَعْرُجُyaʿrujuascendsفِيهَاfīhāthereinوَهُوَwahuwaand Heمَعَكُمْmaʿakum(is) with youأَيْنَaynawhereverمَاmāwhereverكُنْتُمْkuntumyou areوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahبِمَاbimāof whatتَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnayou doبَصِيرٌbaṣīrun(is) All-seer
5. 5لَهُlahuFor Himمُلْكُmul'ku(is the) dominionالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavensوَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthوَإِلَىwa-ilāand toاللَّهِl-lahiAllahتُرْجَعُtur'jaʿuwill be returnedالْأُمُورُl-umūruthe matters
6. 6يُولِجُyūlijuHe mergesاللَّيْلَal-laylathe nightفِيfīintoالنَّهَارِl-nahārithe dayوَيُولِجُwayūlijuand He mergesالنَّهَارَl-nahārathe dayفِيfīintoاللَّيْلِal-laylithe nightوَهُوَwahuwaand Heعَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) All-Knowerبِذَاتِbidhātiof what is in the breastsالصُّدُورِl-ṣudūriof what is in the breasts
7. 7ءَامِنُواāminūBelieveبِاللَّهِbil-lahiin Allahوَرَسُولِهِwarasūlihiand His Messengerوَأَنْفِقُواwa-anfiqūand spendمِمَّاmimmāof whatجَعَلَكُمْjaʿalakumHe has made youمُسْتَخْلَفِينَmus'takhlafīnatrusteesفِيهِfīhithereinفَالَّذِينَfa-alladhīnaAnd thoseءَامَنُواāmanūwho believeمِنْكُمْminkumamong youوَأَنْفَقُواwa-anfaqūand spendلَهُمْlahumfor themأَجْرٌajrun(is) a rewardكَبِيرٌkabīrungreat
8. 8وَمَاwamāAnd whatلَكُمْlakum(is) for youلَاlā(that) notتُؤْمِنُونَtu'minūnayou believeبِاللَّهِbil-lahiin Allahوَالرَّسُولُwal-rasūluwhile the Messengerيَدْعُوكُمْyadʿūkumcalls youلِتُؤْمِنُواlitu'minūthat you believeبِرَبِّكُمْbirabbikumin your Lordوَقَدْwaqadand indeedأَخَذَakhadhaHe has takenمِيثَاقَكُمْmīthāqakumyour covenantإِنْinifكُنْتُمْkuntumyou areمُؤْمِنِينَmu'minīnabelievers
9. 9هُوَhuwaHeالَّذِيalladhī(is) the One Whoيُنَزِّلُyunazzilusends downعَلَىʿalāuponعَبْدِهِʿabdihiHis slaveءَايَاتٍāyātinVersesبَيِّنَاتٍbayyinātinclearلِيُخْرِجَكُمْliyukh'rijakumthat He may bring you outمِنَminafromالظُّلُمَاتِl-ẓulumātithe darkness[es]إِلَىilāintoالنُّورِl-nūrithe lightوَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahبِكُمْbikumto youلَرَءُوفٌlaraūfun(is the) Most Kindرَحِيمٌraḥīmun(the) Most Merciful
10. 10وَمَاwamāAnd whatلَكُمْlakum(is) for youأَلَّاallāthat notتُنْفِقُواtunfiqūyou spendفِيfīinسَبِيلِsabīli(the) wayاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahوَلِلَّهِwalillahiwhile for Allahمِيرَاثُmīrāthu(is the) heritageالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavensوَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthلَاlāNotيَسْتَوِيyastawīare equalمِنْكُمْminkumamong youمَنْman(those) whoأَنْفَقَanfaqaspentمِنْminbeforeقَبْلِqablibeforeالْفَتْحِl-fatḥithe victoryوَقَاتَلَwaqātalaand foughtأُولَئِكَulāikaThoseأَعْظَمُaʿẓamu(are) greaterدَرَجَةًdarajatan(in) degreeمِنَminathanالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoأَنْفَقُواanfaqūspentمِنْminafterwardsبَعْدُbaʿduafterwardsوَقَاتَلُواwaqātalūand foughtوَكُلًّاwakullanBut to allوَعَدَwaʿadaAllah has promisedاللَّهُl-lahuAllah has promisedالْحُسْنَىl-ḥus'nāthe bestوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahبِمَاbimāof whatتَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnayou doخَبِيرٌkhabīrun(is) All-Aware
11. 11مَنْmanWho (is)ذَاdhāthe one whoالَّذِيalladhīthe one whoيُقْرِضُyuq'riḍuwill loanاللَّهَl-laha(to) Allahقَرْضًاqarḍana loanحَسَنًاḥasanangoodlyفَيُضَاعِفَهُfayuḍāʿifahuso He will multiply itلَهُlahufor himوَلَهُwalahuand for himأَجْرٌajrun(is) a rewardكَرِيمٌkarīmunnoble
12. 12يَوْمَyawma(On the) Dayتَرَىtarāyou will seeالْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believing menوَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِwal-mu'minātiand the believing womenيَسْعَىyasʿārunningنُورُهُمْnūruhumtheir lightبَيْنَbaynabefore themأَيْدِيهِمْaydīhimbefore themوَبِأَيْمَانِهِمْwabi-aymānihimand on their rightبُشْرَاكُمُbush'rākumuGlad tidings for youالْيَوْمَl-yawmathis Dayجَنَّاتٌjannātungardensتَجْرِيtajrīflowingمِنْminfromتَحْتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath itالْأَنْهَارُl-anhāruthe riversخَالِدِينَkhālidīnaabiding foreverفِيهَاfīhāthereinذَلِكَdhālikaThatهُوَhuwa[it] (is)الْفَوْزُl-fawzuthe successالْعَظِيمُl-ʿaẓīmuthe great
13. 13يَوْمَyawma(On the) Dayيَقُولُyaqūluwill sayالْمُنَافِقُونَl-munāfiqūnathe hypocrite menوَالْمُنَافِقَاتُwal-munāfiqātuand the hypocrite womenلِلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelievedانْظُرُونَاunẓurūnāWait for usنَقْتَبِسْnaqtabiswe may acquireمِنْminofنُورِكُمْnūrikumyour lightقِيلَqīlaIt will be saidارْجِعُواir'jiʿūGo backوَرَاءَكُمْwarāakumbehind youفَالْتَمِسُواfal-tamisūand seekنُورًاnūranlightفَضُرِبَfaḍuribaThen will be put upبَيْنَهُمْbaynahumbetween themبِسُورٍbisūrina wallلَهُlahufor itبَابٌbābuna gateبَاطِنُهُbāṭinuhuits interiorفِيهِfīhiin itالرَّحْمَةُl-raḥmatu(is) mercyوَظَاهِرُهُwaẓāhiruhubut its exteriorمِنْminfacing towards [it]قِبَلِهِqibalihifacing towards [it]الْعَذَابُl-ʿadhābuthe punishment
14. 14يُنَادُونَهُمْyunādūnahumThey will call themأَلَمْalamWere notنَكُنْnakunweمَعَكُمْmaʿakumwith youقَالُواqālūThey will sayبَلَىbalāYesوَلَكِنَّكُمْwalākinnakumbut youفَتَنْتُمْfatantumled to temptationأَنْفُسَكُمْanfusakumyourselvesوَتَرَبَّصْتُمْwatarabbaṣtumand you awaitedوَارْتَبْتُمْwa-ir'tabtumand you doubtedوَغَرَّتْكُمُwagharratkumuand deceived youالْأَمَانِيُّl-amāniyuthe wishful thinkingحَتَّىḥattāuntilجَاءَjāacameأَمْرُamru(the) Commandاللَّهِl-lahi(of) AllahوَغَرَّكُمْwagharrakumAnd deceived youبِاللَّهِbil-lahiabout Allahالْغَرُورُl-gharūruthe deceiver
15. 15فَالْيَوْمَfal-yawmaSo todayلَاlānotيُؤْخَذُyu'khadhuwill be acceptedمِنْكُمْminkumfrom youفِدْيَةٌfid'yatunany ransomوَلَاwalāand notمِنَminafromالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelievedمَأْوَاكُمُmawākumuYour abodeالنَّارُl-nāru(is) the Fireهِيَhiyait (is)مَوْلَاكُمْmawlākumyour protectorوَبِئْسَwabi'saand wretched isالْمَصِيرُl-maṣīruthe destination
16. 16أَلَمْalamHas notيَأْنِyanicome (the) timeلِلَّذِينَlilladhīnafor those whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelievedأَنْanthatتَخْشَعَtakhshaʿabecome humbleقُلُوبُهُمْqulūbuhumtheir heartsلِذِكْرِlidhik'riat (the) remembrance (of) Allahاللَّهِl-lahiat (the) remembrance (of) Allahوَمَاwamāand whatنَزَلَnazalahas come downمِنَminaofالْحَقِّl-ḥaqithe truthوَلَاwalāAnd notيَكُونُواyakūnūthey becomeكَالَّذِينَka-alladhīnalike those whoأُوتُواūtūwere givenالْكِتَابَl-kitābathe Bookمِنْminbeforeقَبْلُqablubeforeفَطَالَfaṭāla(and) was prolongedعَلَيْهِمُʿalayhimufor themالْأَمَدُl-amaduthe termفَقَسَتْfaqasatso hardenedقُلُوبُهُمْqulūbuhumtheir heartsوَكَثِيرٌwakathīrunand manyمِنْهُمْmin'humof themفَاسِقُونَfāsiqūna(are) defiantly disobedient
17. 17اعْلَمُواiʿ'lamūKnowأَنَّannathatاللَّهَl-lahaAllahيُحْيِيyuḥ'yīgives lifeالْأَرْضَl-arḍa(to) the earthبَعْدَbaʿdaafterمَوْتِهَاmawtihāits deathقَدْqadIndeedبَيَّنَّاbayyannāWe have made clearلَكُمُlakumuto youالْءَايَاتِl-āyātithe Signsلَعَلَّكُمْlaʿallakumso that you mayتَعْقِلُونَtaʿqilūnaunderstand
18. 18إِنَّinnaIndeedالْمُصَّدِّقِينَl-muṣadiqīnathe men who give charityوَالْمُصَّدِّقَاتِwal-muṣadiqātiand the women who give charityوَأَقْرَضُواwa-aqraḍūand who lendاللَّهَl-laha(to) Allahقَرْضًاqarḍana loanحَسَنًاḥasanangoodlyيُضَاعَفُyuḍāʿafuit will be multipliedلَهُمْlahumfor themوَلَهُمْwalahumand for themأَجْرٌajrun(is) a rewardكَرِيمٌkarīmunnoble
19. 19وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveبِاللَّهِbil-lahiin Allahوَرُسُلِهِwarusulihiand His Messengersأُولَئِكَulāika[those]هُمُhumutheyالصِّدِّيقُونَl-ṣidīqūna(are) the truthfulوَالشُّهَدَاءُwal-shuhadāuand the martyrsعِنْدَʿinda(are) withرَبِّهِمْrabbihimtheir LordلَهُمْlahumFor themأَجْرُهُمْajruhum(is) their rewardوَنُورُهُمْwanūruhumand their lightوَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaBut those whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelieveوَكَذَّبُواwakadhabūand denyبِءَايَاتِنَاbiāyātināOur Versesأُولَئِكَulāikathoseأَصْحَابُaṣḥābu(are the) companionsالْجَحِيمِl-jaḥīmi(of) the Hellfire
20. 20اعْلَمُواiʿ'lamūKnowأَنَّمَاannamāthatالْحَيَوةُl-ḥayatuthe lifeالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the worldلَعِبٌlaʿibun(is) playوَلَهْوٌwalahwunand amusementوَزِينَةٌwazīnatunand adornmentوَتَفَاخُرٌwatafākhurunand boastingبَيْنَكُمْbaynakumamong youوَتَكَاثُرٌwatakāthurunand competition in increaseفِيfīofالْأَمْوَالِl-amwālithe wealthوَالْأَوْلَادِwal-awlādiand the childrenكَمَثَلِkamathalilike (the) exampleغَيْثٍghaythin(of) a rainأَعْجَبَaʿjabapleasesالْكُفَّارَl-kufārathe tillersنَبَاتُهُnabātuhuits growthثُمَّthummathenيَهِيجُyahījuit driesفَتَرَاهُfatarāhuand you see itمُصْفَرًّاmuṣ'farranturning yellowثُمَّthummathenيَكُونُyakūnubecomesحُطَامًاḥuṭāmandebrisوَفِيwafīAnd inالْءَاخِرَةِl-ākhiratithe Hereafterعَذَابٌʿadhābun(is) a punishmentشَدِيدٌshadīdunsevereوَمَغْفِرَةٌwamaghfiratunand forgivenessمِنَminafromاللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَرِضْوَانٌwariḍ'wānunand PleasureوَمَاwamāBut notالْحَيَوةُl-ḥayatu(is) the lifeالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the worldإِلَّاillāexceptمَتَاعُmatāʿu(the) enjoymentالْغُرُورِl-ghurūri(of) delusion
21. 21سَابِقُواsābiqūRaceإِلَىilātoمَغْفِرَةٍmaghfiratin(the) forgivenessمِنْminfromرَبِّكُمْrabbikumyour Lordوَجَنَّةٍwajannatinand a Gardenعَرْضُهَاʿarḍuhāits widthكَعَرْضِkaʿarḍi(is) like (the) widthالسَّمَاءِl-samāi(of) the heavenوَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthأُعِدَّتْuʿiddatpreparedلِلَّذِينَlilladhīnafor those whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveبِاللَّهِbil-lahiin Allahوَرُسُلِهِwarusulihiand His MessengersذَلِكَdhālikaThatفَضْلُfaḍlu(is the) Bountyاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahيُؤْتِيهِyu'tīhiHe givesمَنْman(to) whomيَشَاءُyashāuHe willsوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahذُوdhū(is) the Possessor of Bountyالْفَضْلِl-faḍli(is) the Possessor of Bountyالْعَظِيمِl-ʿaẓīmithe Great
22. 22مَاmāNotأَصَابَaṣābastrikesمِنْminanyمُصِيبَةٍmuṣībatindisasterفِيfīinالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthوَلَاwalāand notفِيfīinأَنْفُسِكُمْanfusikumyourselvesإِلَّاillābutفِيfīinكِتَابٍkitābina Registerمِنْminbeforeقَبْلِqablibeforeأَنْanthatنَبْرَأَهَاnabra-ahāWe bring it into existenceإِنَّinnaIndeedذَلِكَdhālikathatعَلَىʿalāforاللَّهِl-lahiAllahيَسِيرٌyasīrun(is) easy
23. 23لِكَيْلَاlikaylāSo that you may notتَأْسَوْاtasawgrieveعَلَىʿalāoverمَاmāwhatفَاتَكُمْfātakumhas escaped youوَلَاwalāand (do) notتَفْرَحُواtafraḥūexultبِمَاbimāat whatءَاتَاكُمْātākumHe has given youوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahلَاlā(does) notيُحِبُّyuḥibbuloveكُلَّkullaeveryمُخْتَالٍmukh'tālinself-deludedفَخُورٍfakhūrinboaster
24. 24الَّذِينَalladhīnaThose whoيَبْخَلُونَyabkhalūnaare stingyوَيَأْمُرُونَwayamurūnaand enjoinالنَّاسَl-nāsa(on) the peopleبِالْبُخْلِbil-bukh'listinginessوَمَنْwamanAnd whoeverيَتَوَلَّyatawallaturns awayفَإِنَّfa-innathen indeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahهُوَhuwaHeالْغَنِيُّl-ghaniyu(is) Free of needالْحَمِيدُl-ḥamīduthe Praiseworthy
25. 25لَقَدْlaqadCertainlyأَرْسَلْنَاarsalnāWe sentرُسُلَنَاrusulanāOur Messengersبِالْبَيِّنَاتِbil-bayinātiwith clear proofsوَأَنْزَلْنَاwa-anzalnāand We sent downمَعَهُمُmaʿahumuwith themالْكِتَابَl-kitābathe Scriptureوَالْمِيزَانَwal-mīzānaand the Balanceلِيَقُومَliyaqūmathat may establishالنَّاسُl-nāsuthe peopleبِالْقِسْطِbil-qis'ṭijusticeوَأَنْزَلْنَاwa-anzalnāAnd We sent downالْحَدِيدَl-ḥadīda[the] ironفِيهِfīhiwhereinبَأْسٌbasun(is) powerشَدِيدٌshadīdunmightyوَمَنَافِعُwamanāfiʿuand benefitsلِلنَّاسِlilnnāsifor the peopleوَلِيَعْلَمَwaliyaʿlamaand so that Allah may make evidentاللَّهُl-lahuand so that Allah may make evidentمَنْman(he) whoيَنْصُرُهُyanṣuruhuhelps Himوَرُسُلَهُwarusulahuand His Messengersبِالْغَيْبِbil-ghaybiunseenإِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahقَوِيٌّqawiyyun(is) All-StrongعَزِيزٌʿazīzunAll-Mighty
26. 26وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainlyأَرْسَلْنَاarsalnāWe sentنُوحًاnūḥanNuhوَإِبْرَاهِيمَwa-ib'rāhīmaand Ibrahimوَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāand We placedفِيfīinذُرِّيَّتِهِمَاdhurriyyatihimātheir offspringالنُّبُوَّةَl-nubuwataProphethoodوَالْكِتَابَwal-kitābaand the Scriptureفَمِنْهُمْfamin'humand among themمُهْتَدٍmuh'tadin(is) a guided oneوَكَثِيرٌwakathīrunbut mostمِنْهُمْmin'humof themفَاسِقُونَfāsiqūna(are) defiantly disobediently
27. 27ثُمَّthummaThenقَفَّيْنَاqaffaynāWe sentعَلَىʿalāonءَاثَارِهِمْāthārihimtheir footstepsبِرُسُلِنَاbirusulināOur Messengersوَقَفَّيْنَاwaqaffaynāand We followedبِعِيسَىbiʿīsāwith Isaابْنِib'nisonمَرْيَمَmaryama(of) Maryamوَءَاتَيْنَاهُwaātaynāhuand We gave himالْإِنْجِيلَl-injīlathe InjeelوَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāAnd We placedفِيfīinقُلُوبِqulūbi(the) heartsالَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those whoاتَّبَعُوهُittabaʿūhufollowed himرَأْفَةًrafatancompassionوَرَحْمَةًwaraḥmatanand mercyوَرَهْبَانِيَّةًwarahbāniyyatanBut monasticismابْتَدَعُوهَاib'tadaʿūhāthey innovatedمَاmānotكَتَبْنَاهَاkatabnāhāWe prescribed itعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimfor themإِلَّاillāonlyابْتِغَاءَib'tighāaseekingرِضْوَانِriḍ'wāni(the) pleasureاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahفَمَاfamābut notرَعَوْهَاraʿawhāthey observed itحَقَّḥaqqa(with) rightرِعَايَتِهَاriʿāyatihāobservanceفَءَاتَيْنَاfaātaynāSo We gaveالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelievedمِنْهُمْmin'humamong themأَجْرَهُمْajrahumtheir rewardوَكَثِيرٌwakathīrunbut mostمِنْهُمْmin'humof themفَاسِقُونَfāsiqūna(are) defiantly disobediently
28. 28يَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO (you who)الَّذِينَalladhīna(O) you whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveاتَّقُواittaqūFearاللَّهَl-lahaAllahوَءَامِنُواwaāminūand believeبِرَسُولِهِbirasūlihiin His Messengerيُؤْتِكُمْyu'tikumHe will give youكِفْلَيْنِkif'laynidouble portionمِنْminofرَحْمَتِهِraḥmatihiHis Mercyوَيَجْعَلْwayajʿaland He will makeلَكُمْlakumfor youنُورًاnūrana lightتَمْشُونَtamshūnayou will walkبِهِbihiwith itوَيَغْفِرْwayaghfirand He will forgiveلَكُمْlakumyouوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahغَفُورٌghafūrun(is) Oft-ForgivingرَحِيمٌraḥīmunMost Merciful
29. 29لِئَلَّاli-allāSo thatيَعْلَمَyaʿlamamay knowأَهْلُahlu(the) Peopleالْكِتَابِl-kitābi(of) the Bookأَلَّاallāthat notيَقْدِرُونَyaqdirūnathey have powerعَلَىʿalāoverشَيْءٍshayinanythingمِنْminfromفَضْلِfaḍli(the) Bountyاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahوَأَنَّwa-annaand thatالْفَضْلَl-faḍlathe Bountyبِيَدِbiyadi(is) in (Allah's) handاللَّهِl-lahi(is) (in) Allah's (hand)يُؤْتِيهِyu'tīhiHe gives itمَنْmanwhomيَشَاءُyashāuHe willsوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahذُوdhū(is) the Possessor of Bountyالْفَضْلِl-faḍli(is) the Possessor of Bountyالْعَظِيمِl-ʿaẓīmithe Great
