بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Surah 47 — Muhammad

  1. 1الَّذِينَalladhīnaThose whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelieveوَصَدُّواwaṣaddūand turn awayعَنْʿanfromسَبِيلِsabīli(the) way of Allahاللَّهِl-lahi(the) way of AllahأَضَلَّaḍallaHe will cause to be lostأَعْمَالَهُمْaʿmālahumtheir deeds
  2. 2وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveوَعَمِلُواwaʿamilūand doالصَّالِحَاتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deedsوَءَامَنُواwaāmanūand believeبِمَاbimāin whatنُزِّلَnuzzilais revealedعَلَىʿalātoمُحَمَّدٍmuḥammadinMuhammadوَهُوَwahuwaand itالْحَقُّl-ḥaqu(is) the truthمِنْminfromرَبِّهِمْrabbihimtheir LordكَفَّرَkaffaraHe will removeعَنْهُمْʿanhumfrom themسَيِّئَاتِهِمْsayyiātihimtheir misdeedsوَأَصْلَحَwa-aṣlaḥaand improveبَالَهُمْbālahumtheir condition
  3. 3ذَلِكَdhālikaThatبِأَنَّbi-anna(is) becauseالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelieveاتَّبَعُواittabaʿūfollowالْبَاطِلَl-bāṭilafalsehoodوَأَنَّwa-annaand becauseالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveاتَّبَعُواittabaʿūfollowالْحَقَّl-ḥaqa(the) truthمِنْminfromرَبِّهِمْrabbihimtheir LordكَذَلِكَkadhālikaThusيَضْرِبُyaḍribuAllah presentsاللَّهُl-lahuAllah presentsلِلنَّاسِlilnnāsito the peopleأَمْثَالَهُمْamthālahumtheir similitudes
  4. 4فَإِذَاfa-idhāSo whenلَقِيتُمُlaqītumuyou meetالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelieveفَضَرْبَfaḍarbathen strikeالرِّقَابِl-riqābithe necksحَتَّىḥattāuntilإِذَاidhāwhenأَثْخَنْتُمُوهُمْathkhantumūhumyou have subdued themفَشُدُّواfashuddūthen bind firmlyالْوَثَاقَl-wathāqathe bondفَإِمَّاfa-immāthen eitherمَنًّاmannana favorبَعْدُbaʿduafterwardsوَإِمَّاwa-immāorفِدَاءًfidāanransomحَتَّىḥattāuntilتَضَعَtaḍaʿalays downالْحَرْبُl-ḥarbuthe warأَوْزَارَهَاawzārahāits burdensذَلِكَdhālikaThatوَلَوْwalawAnd ifيَشَاءُyashāuAllah had willedاللَّهُl-lahuAllah had willedلَانْتَصَرَla-intaṣarasurely, He could have taken retributionمِنْهُمْmin'humfrom themوَلَكِنْwalākinbutلِيَبْلُوَاliyabluwāto testبَعْضَكُمْbaʿḍakumsome of youبِبَعْضٍbibaʿḍinwith othersوَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoقُتِلُواqutilūare killedفِيinسَبِيلِsabīli(the) way of Allahاللَّهِl-lahi(the) way of Allahفَلَنْfalanthen neverيُضِلَّyuḍillaHe will cause to be lostأَعْمَالَهُمْaʿmālahumtheir deeds
  5. 5سَيَهْدِيهِمْsayahdīhimHe will guide themوَيُصْلِحُwayuṣ'liḥuand improveبَالَهُمْbālahumtheir condition
  6. 6وَيُدْخِلُهُمُwayud'khiluhumuAnd admit themالْجَنَّةَl-janata(to) ParadiseعَرَّفَهَاʿarrafahāHe has made it knownلَهُمْlahumto them
  7. 7يَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you who believeالَّذِينَalladhīnaO you who believeءَامَنُواāmanūO you who believeإِنْinIfتَنْصُرُواtanṣurūyou helpاللَّهَl-lahaAllahيَنْصُرْكُمْyanṣur'kumHe will help youوَيُثَبِّتْwayuthabbitand make firmأَقْدَامَكُمْaqdāmakumyour feet
  8. 8وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaBut those whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelieveفَتَعْسًاfataʿsandestruction isلَهُمْlahumfor themوَأَضَلَّwa-aḍallaand He will cause to be lostأَعْمَالَهُمْaʿmālahumtheir deeds
  9. 9ذَلِكَdhālikaThatبِأَنَّهُمْbi-annahum(is) because theyكَرِهُواkarihūhateمَاwhatأَنْزَلَanzalaAllah has revealedاللَّهُl-lahuAllah has revealedفَأَحْبَطَfa-aḥbaṭaso He has made worthlessأَعْمَالَهُمْaʿmālahumtheir deeds
  10. 10أَفَلَمْafalamDo notيَسِيرُواyasīrūthey travelفِيinالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthفَيَنْظُرُواfayanẓurūand seeكَيْفَkayfahowكَانَkānawasعَاقِبَةُʿāqibatu(the) endالَّذِينَalladhīna(of) thoseمِنْminbefore themقَبْلِهِمْqablihimbefore themدَمَّرَdammaraAllah destroyedاللَّهُl-lahuAllah destroyedعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhim[over] themوَلِلْكَافِرِينَwalil'kāfirīnaand for the disbelieversأَمْثَالُهَاamthāluhāits likeness
  11. 11ذَلِكَdhālikaThatبِأَنَّbi-anna(is) becauseاللَّهَl-lahaAllahمَوْلَىmawlā(is the) Protectorالَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveوَأَنَّwa-annaand becauseالْكَافِرِينَl-kāfirīnathe disbelieversلَا(there is) noمَوْلَىmawlāprotectorلَهُمْlahumfor them
  12. 12إِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahيُدْخِلُyud'khiluwill admitالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveوَعَمِلُواwaʿamilūand doالصَّالِحَاتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deedsجَنَّاتٍjannātin(to) gardensتَجْرِيtajrīflowمِنْminfromتَحْتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath itالْأَنْهَارُl-anhāruthe riversوَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnabut those whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelieveيَتَمَتَّعُونَyatamattaʿūnathey enjoyوَيَأْكُلُونَwayakulūnaand eatكَمَاkamāasتَأْكُلُtakulueatالْأَنْعَامُl-anʿāmuthe cattleوَالنَّارُwal-nāruand the Fireمَثْوًىmathwan(will be) an abodeلَهُمْlahumfor them
  13. 13وَكَأَيِّنْwaka-ayyinAnd how manyمِنْminofقَرْيَةٍqaryatina townهِيَhiyawhichأَشَدُّashaddu(was) strongerقُوَّةًquwwatan(in) strengthمِنْminthanقَرْيَتِكَqaryatikayour townالَّتِيallatīwhichأَخْرَجَتْكَakhrajatkahas driven you outأَهْلَكْنَاهُمْahlaknāhumWe destroyed themفَلَاfalāso noنَاصِرَnāṣirahelperلَهُمْlahumfor them
  14. 14أَفَمَنْafamanThen is (he) whoكَانَkānaisعَلَىʿalāonبَيِّنَةٍbayyinatina clear proofمِنْminfromرَبِّهِrabbihihis Lordكَمَنْkamanlike (he) whoزُيِّنَzuyyinais made attractiveلَهُlahufor himسُوءُsūu(the) evilعَمَلِهِʿamalihi(of) his deedsوَاتَّبَعُواwa-ittabaʿūwhile they followأَهْوَاءَهُمْahwāahumtheir desires
  15. 15مَثَلُmathaluA parableالْجَنَّةِl-janati(of) Paradiseالَّتِيallatīwhichوُعِدَwuʿidais promisedالْمُتَّقُونَl-mutaqūna(to) the righteousفِيهَاfīhāThereinأَنْهَارٌanhārun(are) riversمِنْminofمَاءٍmāinwaterغَيْرِghayrinotءَاسِنٍāsininpollutedوَأَنْهَارٌwa-anhārunand riversمِنْminofلَبَنٍlabaninmilkلَمْlamnotيَتَغَيَّرْyataghayyarchangesطَعْمُهُṭaʿmuhuits tasteوَأَنْهَارٌwa-anhārunand riversمِنْminofخَمْرٍkhamrinwineلَذَّةٍladhatindeliciousلِلشَّارِبِينَlilshāribīnato (the) drinkersوَأَنْهَارٌwa-anhārunand riversمِنْminofعَسَلٍʿasalinhoneyمُصَفًّىmuṣaffanpurifiedوَلَهُمْwalahumand for themفِيهَاfīhāthereinمِنْminofكُلِّkulliallالثَّمَرَاتِl-thamarātifruitsوَمَغْفِرَةٌwamaghfiratunand forgivenessمِنْminfromرَبِّهِمْrabbihimtheir Lordكَمَنْkamanlike he whoهُوَhuwalike he whoخَالِدٌkhālidun(will) abide foreverفِيinالنَّارِl-nārithe Fireوَسُقُواwasuqūand they will be given to drinkمَاءًmāanwaterحَمِيمًاḥamīmanboilingفَقَطَّعَfaqaṭṭaʿaso it cuts into piecesأَمْعَاءَهُمْamʿāahumtheir intestines
  16. 16وَمِنْهُمْwamin'humAnd among themمَنْman(are some) whoيَسْتَمِعُyastamiʿulistenإِلَيْكَilaykato youحَتَّىḥattāuntilإِذَاidhāwhenخَرَجُواkharajūthey departمِنْminfromعِنْدِكَʿindikayouقَالُواqālūthey sayلِلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those whoأُوتُواūtūwere givenالْعِلْمَl-ʿil'mathe knowledgeمَاذَاmādhāWhatقَالَqāla(has) he saidءَانِفًاānifanjust nowأُولَئِكَulāikaThoseالَّذِينَalladhīna(are) the onesطَبَعَṭabaʿaAllah has set a sealاللَّهُl-lahuAllah has set a sealعَلَىʿalāuponقُلُوبِهِمْqulūbihimtheir heartsوَاتَّبَعُواwa-ittabaʿūand they followأَهْوَاءَهُمْahwāahumtheir desires
  17. 17وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoاهْتَدَوْاih'tadawaccept guidanceزَادَهُمْzādahumHe increases themهُدًىhudan(in) guidanceوَءَاتَاهُمْwaātāhumand gives themتَقْوَاهُمْtaqwāhumtheir righteousness
  18. 18فَهَلْfahalThen doيَنْظُرُونَyanẓurūnathey waitإِلَّاillābutالسَّاعَةَl-sāʿata(for) the Hourأَنْanthatتَأْتِيَهُمْtatiyahumit should come to themبَغْتَةًbaghtatansuddenlyفَقَدْfaqadBut indeedجَاءَjāahave comeأَشْرَاطُهَاashrāṭuhāits indicationsفَأَنَّىfa-annāThen howلَهُمْlahumto themإِذَاidhāwhenجَاءَتْهُمْjāathumhas come to themذِكْرَاهُمْdhik'rāhumtheir reminder
  19. 19فَاعْلَمْfa-iʿ'lamSo knowأَنَّهُannahuthat [He]لَا(there is) noإِلَهَilāhagodإِلَّاillābutاللَّهُl-lahuAllahوَاسْتَغْفِرْwa-is'taghfirand ask forgivenessلِذَنْبِكَlidhanbikafor your sinوَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَwalil'mu'minīnaand for the believing menوَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِwal-mu'minātiand the believing womenوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahيَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknowsمُتَقَلَّبَكُمْmutaqallabakumyour movementوَمَثْوَاكُمْwamathwākumand your resting places
  20. 20وَيَقُولُwayaqūluAnd sayالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveلَوْلَاlawlāWhy notنُزِّلَتْnuzzilathas been revealedسُورَةٌsūratuna Surahفَإِذَاfa-idhāBut whenأُنْزِلَتْunzilatis revealedسُورَةٌsūratuna Surahمُحْكَمَةٌmuḥ'kamatunpreciseوَذُكِرَwadhukiraand is mentionedفِيهَاfīhāin itالْقِتَالُl-qitāluthe fightingرَأَيْتَra-aytayou seeالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoفِيinقُلُوبِهِمْqulūbihimtheir heartsمَرَضٌmaraḍun(is) a diseaseيَنْظُرُونَyanẓurūnalookingإِلَيْكَilaykaat youنَظَرَnaẓaraa lookالْمَغْشِيِّl-maghshiyi(of) one faintingعَلَيْهِʿalayhi(of) one faintingمِنَminafromالْمَوْتِl-mawtithe deathفَأَوْلَىfa-awlāBut more appropriateلَهُمْlahumfor them
  21. 21طَاعَةٌṭāʿatun(Is) obedienceوَقَوْلٌwaqawlunand a wordمَعْرُوفٌmaʿrūfunkindفَإِذَاfa-idhāAnd whenعَزَمَʿazama(is) determinedالْأَمْرُl-amruthe matterفَلَوْfalawthen ifصَدَقُواṣadaqūthey had been trueاللَّهَl-laha(to) Allahلَكَانَlakānasurely it would have beenخَيْرًاkhayranbetterلَهُمْlahumfor them
  22. 22فَهَلْfahalThen wouldعَسَيْتُمْʿasaytumyou perhapsإِنْinifتَوَلَّيْتُمْtawallaytumyou are given authorityأَنْanthatتُفْسِدُواtuf'sidūyou cause corruptionفِيinالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthوَتُقَطِّعُواwatuqaṭṭiʿūand cut offأَرْحَامَكُمْarḥāmakumyour ties of kinship
  23. 23أُولَئِكَulāikaThoseالَّذِينَalladhīna(are) the onesلَعَنَهُمُlaʿanahumuAllah has cursed themاللَّهُl-lahuAllah has cursed themفَأَصَمَّهُمْfa-aṣammahumso He made them deafوَأَعْمَىwa-aʿmāand blindedأَبْصَارَهُمْabṣārahumtheir vision
  24. 24أَفَلَاafalāThen do notيَتَدَبَّرُونَyatadabbarūnathey ponderالْقُرْءَانَl-qur'āna(over) the Quranأَمْamorعَلَىʿalāuponقُلُوبٍqulūbin(their) heartsأَقْفَالُهَاaqfāluhā(are) locks
  25. 25إِنَّinnaIndeedالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoارْتَدُّواir'taddūreturnعَلَىʿalāonأَدْبَارِهِمْadbārihimtheir backsمِنْminafterبَعْدِbaʿdiafterمَاwhatتَبَيَّنَtabayyana(has) become clearلَهُمُlahumuto themالْهُدَىl-hudāthe guidanceالشَّيْطَانُl-shayṭānuShaitaanسَوَّلَsawwalaenticedلَهُمْlahum[for] themوَأَمْلَىwa-amlāand prolonged hopeلَهُمْlahumfor them
  26. 26ذَلِكَdhālikaThatبِأَنَّهُمْbi-annahum(is) because theyقَالُواqālū[they] saidلِلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those whoكَرِهُواkarihūhateمَاwhatنَزَّلَnazzalaAllah has revealedاللَّهُl-lahuAllah has revealedسَنُطِيعُكُمْsanuṭīʿukumWe will obey youفِيinبَعْضِbaʿḍipartالْأَمْرِl-amri(of) the matterوَاللَّهُwal-lahuBut Allahيَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknowsإِسْرَارَهُمْis'rārahumtheir secrets
  27. 27فَكَيْفَfakayfaThen howإِذَاidhāwhenتَوَفَّتْهُمُtawaffathumutake them in deathالْمَلَائِكَةُl-malāikatuthe Angelsيَضْرِبُونَyaḍribūnastrikingوُجُوهَهُمْwujūhahumtheir facesوَأَدْبَارَهُمْwa-adbārahumand their backs
  28. 28ذَلِكَdhālikaThatبِأَنَّهُمُbi-annahumu(is) because theyاتَّبَعُواittabaʿūfollowedمَاwhatأَسْخَطَaskhaṭaangeredاللَّهَl-lahaAllahوَكَرِهُواwakarihūand hatedرِضْوَانَهُriḍ'wānahuHis pleasureفَأَحْبَطَfa-aḥbaṭaso He made worthlessأَعْمَالَهُمْaʿmālahumtheir deeds
  29. 29أَمْamOr doحَسِبَḥasibathinkالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoفِيinقُلُوبِهِمْqulūbihimtheir heartsمَرَضٌmaraḍun(is) a diseaseأَنْanthatلَنْlanneverيُخْرِجَyukh'rijawill Allah bring forthاللَّهُl-lahuwill Allah bring forthأَضْغَانَهُمْaḍghānahumtheir hatred
  30. 30وَلَوْwalawAnd ifنَشَاءُnashāuWe willedلَأَرَيْنَاكَهُمْla-araynākahumsurely We could show them to youفَلَعَرَفْتَهُمْfalaʿaraftahumand you would know themبِسِيمَاهُمْbisīmāhumby their marksوَلَتَعْرِفَنَّهُمْwalataʿrifannahumbut surely you will know themفِيbyلَحْنِlaḥni(the) toneالْقَوْلِl-qawli(of their) speechوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahيَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknowsأَعْمَالَكُمْaʿmālakumyour deeds
  31. 31وَلَنَبْلُوَنَّكُمْwalanabluwannakumAnd surely We will test youحَتَّىḥattāuntilنَعْلَمَnaʿlamaWe make evidentالْمُجَاهِدِينَl-mujāhidīnathose who striveمِنْكُمْminkumamong youوَالصَّابِرِينَwal-ṣābirīnaand the patient onesوَنَبْلُوَاwanabluwāand We will testأَخْبَارَكُمْakhbārakumyour affairs
  32. 32إِنَّinnaIndeedالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelieveوَصَدُّواwaṣaddūand turn awayعَنْʿanfromسَبِيلِsabīli(the) way of Allahاللَّهِl-lahi(the) way of Allahوَشَاقُّواwashāqqūand opposedالرَّسُولَl-rasūlathe Messengerمِنْminafterبَعْدِbaʿdiafterمَا[what]تَبَيَّنَtabayyana(has been) made clearلَهُمُlahumuto themالْهُدَىl-hudāthe guidanceلَنْlanneverيَضُرُّواyaḍurrūwill they harmاللَّهَl-lahaAllahشَيْئًاshayan(in) anythingوَسَيُحْبِطُwasayuḥ'biṭuand He will make worthlessأَعْمَالَهُمْaʿmālahumtheir deeds
  33. 33يَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO (you who)الَّذِينَalladhīna(O) you whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveأَطِيعُواaṭīʿūObeyاللَّهَl-lahaAllahوَأَطِيعُواwa-aṭīʿūand obeyالرَّسُولَl-rasūlathe Messengerوَلَاwalāand (do) notتُبْطِلُواtub'ṭilūmake vainأَعْمَالَكُمْaʿmālakumyour deeds
  34. 34إِنَّinnaIndeedالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelieveوَصَدُّواwaṣaddūand turn awayعَنْʿanfromسَبِيلِsabīli(the) wayاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahثُمَّthummathenمَاتُواmātūdiedوَهُمْwahumwhile theyكُفَّارٌkuffārun(were) disbelieversفَلَنْfalanneverيَغْفِرَyaghfirawill Allah forgiveاللَّهُl-lahuwill Allah forgiveلَهُمْlahumthem
  35. 35فَلَاfalāSo (do) notتَهِنُواtahinūweakenوَتَدْعُواwatadʿūand callإِلَىilāforالسَّلْمِl-salmipeaceوَأَنْتُمُwa-antumuwhile youالْأَعْلَوْنَl-aʿlawna(are) superiorوَاللَّهُwal-lahuand Allahمَعَكُمْmaʿakum(is) with youوَلَنْwalanand neverيَتِرَكُمْyatirakumwill deprive youأَعْمَالَكُمْaʿmālakum(of) your deeds
  36. 36إِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyالْحَيَوةُl-ḥayatuthe lifeالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the worldلَعِبٌlaʿibun(is) playوَلَهْوٌwalahwunand amusementوَإِنْwa-inAnd ifتُؤْمِنُواtu'minūyou believeوَتَتَّقُواwatattaqūand fear (Allah)يُؤْتِكُمْyu'tikumHe will give youأُجُورَكُمْujūrakumyour rewardsوَلَاwalāand notيَسْءَلْكُمْyasalkumwill ask youأَمْوَالَكُمْamwālakum(for) your wealth
  37. 37إِنْinIfيَسْءَلْكُمُوهَاyasalkumūhāHe were to ask you for itفَيُحْفِكُمْfayuḥ'fikumand press youتَبْخَلُواtabkhalūyou will withholdوَيُخْرِجْwayukh'rijand He will bring forthأَضْغَانَكُمْaḍghānakumyour hatred
  38. 38هَاأَنْتُمْhāantumHere you areهَؤُلَاءِhāulāitheseتُدْعَوْنَtud'ʿawnacalledلِتُنْفِقُواlitunfiqūto spendفِيinسَبِيلِsabīli(the) wayاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahفَمِنْكُمْfaminkumbut among youمَنْman(are some) whoيَبْخَلُyabkhaluwithholdوَمَنْwamanand whoeverيَبْخَلْyabkhalwithholdsفَإِنَّمَاfa-innamāthen onlyيَبْخَلُyabkhaluhe withholdsعَنْʿanfromنَفْسِهِnafsihihimselfوَاللَّهُwal-lahuBut Allahالْغَنِيُّl-ghaniyu(is) Free of needوَأَنْتُمُwa-antumuwhile youالْفُقَرَاءُl-fuqarāu(are) the needyوَإِنْwa-inAnd ifتَتَوَلَّوْاtatawallawyou turn awayيَسْتَبْدِلْyastabdilHe will replace youقَوْمًاqawman(with) a peopleغَيْرَكُمْghayrakumother than youثُمَّthummathenلَاnotيَكُونُواyakūnūthey will beأَمْثَالَكُمْamthālakum(the) likes of you
