Surah 45 — Al-Jaathiya

1. 1حمٓha-meemHa Meem
2. 2تَنْزِيلُtanzīlu(The) revelationالْكِتَابِl-kitābi(of) the Bookمِنَmina(is) fromاللَّهِl-lahiAllahالْعَزِيزِl-ʿazīzithe All-Mightyالْحَكِيمِl-ḥakīmithe All-Wise
3. 3إِنَّinnaIndeedفِيfīinالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthلَءَايَاتٍlaāyātinsurely (are) Signsلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَlil'mu'minīnafor the believers
4. 4وَفِيwafīAnd inخَلْقِكُمْkhalqikumyour creationوَمَاwamāand whatيَبُثُّyabuthuHe dispersesمِنْminofدَابَّةٍdābbatin(the) moving creaturesءَايَاتٌāyātun(are) Signsلِقَوْمٍliqawminfor a peopleيُوقِنُونَyūqinūnawho are certain
5. 5وَاخْتِلَافِwa-ikh'tilāfiAnd (in the) alternationاللَّيْلِal-layli(of) the nightوَالنَّهَارِwal-nahāriand the dayوَمَاwamāand whatأَنْزَلَanzalaAllah sends downاللَّهُl-lahuAllah sends downمِنَminafromالسَّمَاءِl-samāithe skyمِنْminofرِزْقٍriz'qin(the) provisionفَأَحْيَاfa-aḥyāand gives lifeبِهِbihitherebyالْأَرْضَl-arḍa(to) the earthبَعْدَbaʿdaafterمَوْتِهَاmawtihāits deathوَتَصْرِيفِwataṣrīfiand (in) directing ofالرِّيَاحِl-riyāḥi(the) windsءَايَاتٌāyātun(are) Signsلِقَوْمٍliqawminfor a peopleيَعْقِلُونَyaʿqilūnawho reason
6. 6تِلْكَtil'kaTheseءَايَاتُāyātu(are the) Versesاللَّهِl-lahi(of) AllahنَتْلُوهَاnatlūhāWe recite themعَلَيْكَʿalaykato youبِالْحَقِّbil-ḥaqiin truthفَبِأَيِّfabi-ayyiThen in whatحَدِيثٍḥadīthinstatementبَعْدَbaʿdaafterاللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَءَايَاتِهِwaāyātihiand His Versesيُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnawill they believe
7. 7وَيْلٌwaylunWoeلِكُلِّlikullito everyأَفَّاكٍaffākinliarأَثِيمٍathīminsinful
8. 8يَسْمَعُyasmaʿuWho hearsءَايَاتِāyāti(the) Versesاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahتُتْلَىtut'lārecitedعَلَيْهِʿalayhito himثُمَّthummathenيُصِرُّyuṣirrupersistsمُسْتَكْبِرًاmus'takbiranarrogantlyكَأَنْka-anas ifلَمْlamnotيَسْمَعْهَاyasmaʿhāhe heard themفَبَشِّرْهُfabashir'huSo give him tidingsبِعَذَابٍbiʿadhābin(of) a punishmentأَلِيمٍalīminpainful
9. 9وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenعَلِمَʿalimahe knowsمِنْminofءَايَاتِنَاāyātināOur Versesشَيْئًاshayananythingاتَّخَذَهَاittakhadhahāhe takes themهُزُوًاhuzuwan(in) ridiculeأُولَئِكَulāikaThoseلَهُمْlahumfor themعَذَابٌʿadhābun(is) a punishmentمُهِينٌmuhīnunhumiliating
10. 10مِنْminBefore themوَرَائِهِمْwarāihimBefore themجَهَنَّمُjahannamu(is) Hellوَلَاwalāand notيُغْنِيyugh'nīwill availعَنْهُمْʿanhumthemمَاmāwhatكَسَبُواkasabūthey had earnedشَيْئًاshayananythingوَلَاwalāand notمَاmāwhatاتَّخَذُواittakhadhūthey had takenمِنْminbesidesدُونِdūnibesidesاللَّهِl-lahiAllahأَوْلِيَاءَawliyāa(as) protectorsوَلَهُمْwalahumAnd for themعَذَابٌʿadhābun(is) a punishmentعَظِيمٌʿaẓīmungreat
11. 11هَذَاhādhāThisهُدًىhudan(is) guidanceوَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelieveبِءَايَاتِbiāyātiin (the) Versesرَبِّهِمْrabbihim(of) their Lordلَهُمْlahumfor themعَذَابٌʿadhābun(is) a punishmentمِنْminofرِجْزٍrij'zinfilthأَلِيمٌalīmunpainful
12. 12اللَّهُal-lahuAllahالَّذِيalladhī(is) the One Whoسَخَّرَsakharasubjectedلَكُمُlakumuto youالْبَحْرَl-baḥrathe seaلِتَجْرِيَlitajriyathat may sailالْفُلْكُl-ful'kuthe shipsفِيهِfīhithereinبِأَمْرِهِbi-amrihiby His Commandوَلِتَبْتَغُواwalitabtaghūand that you may seekمِنْminofفَضْلِهِfaḍlihiHis Bountyوَلَعَلَّكُمْwalaʿallakumand that you mayتَشْكُرُونَtashkurūnagive thanks
13. 13وَسَخَّرَwasakharaAnd He has subjectedلَكُمْlakumto youمَاmāwhateverفِيfī(is) inالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَمَاwamāand whateverفِيfī(is) inالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthجَمِيعًاjamīʿanallمِنْهُmin'hufrom HimإِنَّinnaIndeedفِيfīinذَلِكَdhālikathatلَءَايَاتٍlaāyātinsurely are Signsلِقَوْمٍliqawminfor a peopleيَتَفَكَّرُونَyatafakkarūnawho give thought
14. 14قُلْqulSayلِلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveيَغْفِرُواyaghfirū(to) forgiveلِلَّذِينَlilladhīnathose whoلَاlā(do) notيَرْجُونَyarjūnahopeأَيَّامَayyāma(for the) daysاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahلِيَجْزِيَliyajziyathat He may recompenseقَوْمًاqawmana peopleبِمَاbimāfor whatكَانُواkānūthey used (to)يَكْسِبُونَyaksibūnaearn
15. 15مَنْmanWhoeverعَمِلَʿamiladoesصَالِحًاṣāliḥana righteous deedفَلِنَفْسِهِfalinafsihithen it is for his soulوَمَنْwamanand whoeverأَسَاءَasāadoes evilفَعَلَيْهَاfaʿalayhāthen it (is) against itثُمَّthummaThenإِلَىilātoرَبِّكُمْrabbikumyour Lordتُرْجَعُونَtur'jaʿūnayou will be returned
16. 16وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainlyءَاتَيْنَاātaynāWe gaveبَنِيbanī(the) Children of Israelإِسْرَاءِيلَis'rāīla(the) Children of Israelالْكِتَابَl-kitābathe Bookوَالْحُكْمَwal-ḥuk'maand the wisdomوَالنُّبُوَّةَwal-nubuwataand the Prophethoodوَرَزَقْنَاهُمْwarazaqnāhumand We provided themمِنَminaofالطَّيِّبَاتِl-ṭayibātithe good thingsوَفَضَّلْنَاهُمْwafaḍḍalnāhumand We preferred themعَلَىʿalāoverالْعَالَمِينَl-ʿālamīnathe worlds
17. 17وَءَاتَيْنَاهُمْwaātaynāhumAnd We gave themبَيِّنَاتٍbayyinātinclear proofsمِنَminaofالْأَمْرِl-amrithe matterفَمَاfamāAnd notاخْتَلَفُواikh'talafūthey differedإِلَّاillāexceptمِنْminafterبَعْدِbaʿdiafterمَاmā[what]جَاءَهُمُjāahumucame to themالْعِلْمُl-ʿil'muthe knowledgeبَغْيًاbaghyan(out of) envyبَيْنَهُمْbaynahumbetween themselvesإِنَّinnaIndeedرَبَّكَrabbakayour Lordيَقْضِيyaqḍīwill judgeبَيْنَهُمْbaynahumbetween themيَوْمَyawma(on the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrectionفِيمَاfīmāabout whatكَانُواkānūthey used (to)فِيهِfīhithereinيَخْتَلِفُونَyakhtalifūnadiffer
18. 18ثُمَّthummaThenجَعَلْنَاكَjaʿalnākaWe put youعَلَىʿalāonشَرِيعَةٍsharīʿatinan ordained wayمِنَminaofالْأَمْرِl-amrithe matterفَاتَّبِعْهَاfa-ittabiʿ'hāso follow itوَلَاwalāand (do) notتَتَّبِعْtattabiʿfollowأَهْوَاءَahwāa(the) desiresالَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those whoلَاlā(do) notيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknow
19. 19إِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed theyلَنْlanneverيُغْنُواyugh'nūwill availعَنْكَʿankayouمِنَminaagainstاللَّهِl-lahiAllahشَيْئًاshayan(in) anythingوَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeedالظَّالِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoersبَعْضُهُمْbaʿḍuhumsome of themأَوْلِيَاءُawliyāu(are) alliesبَعْضٍbaʿḍin(of) othersوَاللَّهُwal-lahuand Allahوَلِيُّwaliyyu(is the) Protectorالْمُتَّقِينَl-mutaqīna(of) the righteous
20. 20هَذَاhādhāThisبَصَائِرُbaṣāiru(is) enlightenmentلِلنَّاسِlilnnāsifor mankindوَهُدًىwahudanand guidanceوَرَحْمَةٌwaraḥmatunand mercyلِقَوْمٍliqawminfor a peopleيُوقِنُونَyūqinūnawho are certain
21. 21أَمْamDoحَسِبَḥasibathinkالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoاجْتَرَحُواij'taraḥūcommitالسَّيِّئَاتِl-sayiātievil deedsأَنْanthatنَجْعَلَهُمْnajʿalahumWe will make themكَالَّذِينَka-alladhīnalike thoseءَامَنُواāmanūwho believedوَعَمِلُواwaʿamilūand didالصَّالِحَاتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deedsسَوَاءًsawāanequalمَحْيَاهُمْmaḥyāhum(in) their lifeوَمَمَاتُهُمْwamamātuhumand their deathسَاءَsāaEvil isمَاmāwhatيَحْكُمُونَyaḥkumūnathey judge
22. 22وَخَلَقَwakhalaqaAnd Allah createdاللَّهُl-lahuAnd Allah createdالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَالْأَرْضَwal-arḍaand the earthبِالْحَقِّbil-ḥaqiin truthوَلِتُجْزَىwalituj'zāand that may be recompensedكُلُّkullueveryنَفْسٍnafsinsoulبِمَاbimāfor whatكَسَبَتْkasabatit has earnedوَهُمْwahumand theyلَاlāwill not be wrongedيُظْلَمُونَyuẓ'lamūnawill not be wronged
23. 23أَفَرَءَيْتَafara-aytaHave you seenمَنِmani(he) whoاتَّخَذَittakhadhatakesإِلَهَهُilāhahu(as) his godهَوَاهُhawāhuhis desireوَأَضَلَّهُwa-aḍallahuand Allah lets him go astrayاللَّهُl-lahuand Allah lets him go astrayعَلَىʿalāknowinglyعِلْمٍʿil'minknowinglyوَخَتَمَwakhatamaand He sets a sealعَلَىʿalāuponسَمْعِهِsamʿihihis hearingوَقَلْبِهِwaqalbihiand his heartوَجَعَلَwajaʿalaand putsعَلَىʿalāoverبَصَرِهِbaṣarihihis visionغِشَاوَةًghishāwatana veilفَمَنْfamanThen whoيَهْدِيهِyahdīhiwill guide himمِنْminafterبَعْدِbaʿdiafterاللَّهِl-lahiAllahأَفَلَاafalāThen will notتَذَكَّرُونَtadhakkarūnayou receive admonition
24. 24وَقَالُواwaqālūAnd they sayمَاmāNotهِيَhiyaitإِلَّاillā(is) butحَيَاتُنَاḥayātunāour lifeالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the worldنَمُوتُnamūtuwe dieوَنَحْيَاwanaḥyāand we liveوَمَاwamāand notيُهْلِكُنَاyuh'likunādestroys usإِلَّاillāexceptالدَّهْرُl-dahruthe timeوَمَاwamāAnd notلَهُمْlahumfor themبِذَلِكَbidhālikaof thatمِنْminanyعِلْمٍʿil'minknowledgeإِنْinnotهُمْhumtheyإِلَّاillā(do) butيَظُنُّونَyaẓunnūnaguess
25. 25وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenتُتْلَىtut'lāare recitedعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimto themءَايَاتُنَاāyātunāOur Versesبَيِّنَاتٍbayyinātinclearمَاmānotكَانَkānaisحُجَّتَهُمْḥujjatahumtheir argumentإِلَّاillāexceptأَنْanthatقَالُواqālūthey sayائْتُواi'tūBringبِءَابَائِنَاbiābāināour forefathersإِنْinifكُنْتُمْkuntumyou areصَادِقِينَṣādiqīnatruthful
26. 26قُلِquliSayاللَّهُl-lahuAllahيُحْيِيكُمْyuḥ'yīkumgives you lifeثُمَّthummathenيُمِيتُكُمْyumītukumcauses you to dieثُمَّthummathenيَجْمَعُكُمْyajmaʿukumHe will gather youإِلَىilātoيَوْمِyawmi(the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrectionلَاlānoرَيْبَraybadoubtفِيهِfīhiabout itوَلَكِنَّwalākinnaButأَكْثَرَaktharamostالنَّاسِl-nāsi(of) the peopleلَاlā(do) notيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknow
27. 27وَلِلَّهِwalillahiAnd for Allahمُلْكُmul'ku(is the) dominionالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavensوَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthوَيَوْمَwayawmaand (the) Dayتَقُومُtaqūmuis establishedالسَّاعَةُl-sāʿatuthe Hourيَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhinthat Dayيَخْسَرُyakhsaruwill loseالْمُبْطِلُونَl-mub'ṭilūnathe falsifiers
28. 28وَتَرَىwatarāAnd you will seeكُلَّkullaeveryأُمَّةٍummatinnationجَاثِيَةًjāthiyatankneelingكُلُّkulluEveryأُمَّةٍummatinnationتُدْعَىtud'ʿāwill be calledإِلَىilātoكِتَابِهَاkitābihāits recordالْيَوْمَl-yawmaTodayتُجْزَوْنَtuj'zawnayou will be recompensedمَاmā(for) whatكُنْتُمْkuntumyou used (to)تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnado
29. 29هَذَاhādhāThisكِتَابُنَاkitābunāOur Recordيَنْطِقُyanṭiquspeaksعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumabout youبِالْحَقِّbil-ḥaqiin truthإِنَّاinnāIndeed Weكُنَّاkunnā[We] used (to)نَسْتَنْسِخُnastansikhutranscribeمَاmāwhatكُنْتُمْkuntumyou used (to)تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnado
30. 30فَأَمَّاfa-ammāThen as forالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelievedوَعَمِلُواwaʿamilūand didالصَّالِحَاتِl-ṣāliḥāti[the] righteous deedsفَيُدْخِلُهُمْfayud'khiluhumwill admit themرَبُّهُمْrabbuhumtheir Lordفِيfīin(to)رَحْمَتِهِraḥmatihiHis mercyذَلِكَdhālikaThatهُوَhuwa[it]الْفَوْزُl-fawzu(is) the successالْمُبِينُl-mubīnuclear
31. 31وَأَمَّاwa-ammāBut as forالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelievedأَفَلَمْafalamThen were notتَكُنْtakunThen were notءَايَاتِيāyātīMy Versesتُتْلَىtut'lārecitedعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumto youفَاسْتَكْبَرْتُمْfa-is'takbartumbut you were proudوَكُنْتُمْwakuntumand you becameقَوْمًاqawmana peopleمُجْرِمِينَmuj'rimīnacriminals
32. 32وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenقِيلَqīlait was saidإِنَّinnaindeedوَعْدَwaʿda(the) Promiseاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahحَقٌّḥaqqun(is) trueوَالسَّاعَةُwal-sāʿatuand the Hourلَاlā(there is) noرَيْبَraybadoubtفِيهَاfīhāabout itقُلْتُمْqul'tumyou saidمَاmāNotنَدْرِيnadrīwe knowمَاmāwhatالسَّاعَةُl-sāʿatuthe Hour (is)إِنْinNotنَظُنُّnaẓunnuwe thinkإِلَّاillāexceptظَنًّاẓannanan assumptionوَمَاwamāand notنَحْنُnaḥnuweبِمُسْتَيْقِنِينَbimus'tayqinīna(are) convinced
33. 33وَبَدَاwabadāAnd (will) appearلَهُمْlahumto themسَيِّئَاتُsayyiātu(the) evilمَاmā(of) whatعَمِلُواʿamilūthey didوَحَاقَwaḥāqaand (will) envelopبِهِمْbihimthemمَاmāwhatكَانُواkānūthey usedبِهِbihi[at it]يَسْتَهْزِءُونَyastahziūna(to) mock
34. 34وَقِيلَwaqīlaAnd it will be saidالْيَوْمَl-yawmaTodayنَنْسَاكُمْnansākumWe forget youكَمَاkamāasنَسِيتُمْnasītumyou forgotلِقَاءَliqāa(the) meetingيَوْمِكُمْyawmikum(of) this Day of yoursهَذَاhādhā(of) this Day of yoursوَمَأْوَاكُمُwamawākumuand your abodeالنَّارُl-nāru(is) the Fireوَمَاwamāand notلَكُمْlakumfor youمِنْminanyنَاصِرِينَnāṣirīnahelpers
35. 35ذَلِكُمْdhālikumThatبِأَنَّكُمُbi-annakumu(is) because youاتَّخَذْتُمْittakhadhtumtookءَايَاتِāyāti(the) Versesاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahهُزُوًاhuzuwan(in) ridiculeوَغَرَّتْكُمُwagharratkumuand deceived youالْحَيَوةُl-ḥayatuthe lifeالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the worldفَالْيَوْمَfal-yawmaSo this Dayلَاlānotيُخْرَجُونَyukh'rajūnathey will be brought forthمِنْهَاmin'hāfrom itوَلَاwalāand notهُمْhumtheyيُسْتَعْتَبُونَyus'taʿtabūnawill be asked to appease
36. 36فَلِلَّهِfalillahiThen for Allahالْحَمْدُl-ḥamdu(is) all the praiseرَبِّrabbi(the) Lordالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavensوَرَبِّwarabbiand (the) Lordالْأَرْضِl-arḍi(of) the earthرَبِّrabbi(the) lordالْعَالَمِينَl-ʿālamīna(of) the worlds
37. 37وَلَهُwalahuAnd for Himالْكِبْرِيَاءُl-kib'riyāu(is) the greatnessفِيfīinالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthوَهُوَwahuwaand Heالْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzu(is) the All-Mightyالْحَكِيمُl-ḥakīmuthe All-Wise
