Surah 42 — Ash-Shura

1. 1حمٓha-meemHa Meem
2. 2عٓسٓقٓain-seen-qafAyn Seen Qaaf
3. 3كَذَلِكَkadhālikaThusيُوحِيyūḥīrevealsإِلَيْكَilaykato youوَإِلَىwa-ilāand toالَّذِينَalladhīnathoseمِنْminbefore youقَبْلِكَqablikabefore youاللَّهُl-lahuAllahالْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzuthe All-Mightyالْحَكِيمُl-ḥakīmuthe All-Wise
4. 4لَهُlahuTo Himمَاmā(belong) whateverفِيfī(is) inالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَمَاwamāand whateverفِيfī(is) inالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthوَهُوَwahuwaand Heالْعَلِيُّl-ʿaliyu(is) the Most Highالْعَظِيمُl-ʿaẓīmuthe Most Great
5. 5تَكَادُtakāduAlmostالسَّمَاوَاتُl-samāwātuthe heavensيَتَفَطَّرْنَyatafaṭṭarnabreak upمِنْminfromفَوْقِهِنَّfawqihinnaabove themوَالْمَلَائِكَةُwal-malāikatuand the Angelsيُسَبِّحُونَyusabbiḥūnaglorifyبِحَمْدِbiḥamdi(the) praiseرَبِّهِمْrabbihim(of) their Lordوَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَwayastaghfirūnaand ask for forgivenessلِمَنْlimanfor thoseفِيfīonالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthأَلَاalāUnquestionablyإِنَّinnaindeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahهُوَhuwaHeالْغَفُورُl-ghafūru(is) the Oft-Forgivingالرَّحِيمُl-raḥīmuthe Most Merciful
6. 6وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoاتَّخَذُواittakhadhūtakeمِنْminbesides Himدُونِهِdūnihibesides Himأَوْلِيَاءَawliyāaprotectorsاللَّهُl-lahuAllahحَفِيظٌḥafīẓun(is) a Guardianعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimover themوَمَاwamāand notأَنْتَantayouعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhim(are) over themبِوَكِيلٍbiwakīlina manager
7. 7وَكَذَلِكَwakadhālikaAnd thusأَوْحَيْنَاawḥaynāWe have revealedإِلَيْكَilaykato youقُرْءَانًاqur'ānana Quranعَرَبِيًّاʿarabiyyan(in) Arabicلِتُنْذِرَlitundhirathat you may warnأُمَّumma(the) motherالْقُرَىl-qurā(of) the townsوَمَنْwamanand whoeverحَوْلَهَاḥawlahā(is) around itوَتُنْذِرَwatundhiraand warnيَوْمَyawma(of the) Dayالْجَمْعِl-jamʿi(of) Assemblyلَاlā(there is) noرَيْبَraybadoubtفِيهِfīhiin itفَرِيقٌfarīqunA partyفِيfī(will be) inالْجَنَّةِl-janatiParadiseوَفَرِيقٌwafarīqunand a partyفِيfīinالسَّعِيرِl-saʿīrithe Blazing Fire
8. 8وَلَوْwalawAnd ifشَاءَshāaAllah willedاللَّهُl-lahuAllah willedلَجَعَلَهُمْlajaʿalahumHe could have made themأُمَّةًummatana communityوَاحِدَةًwāḥidatanoneوَلَكِنْwalākinbutيُدْخِلُyud'khiluHe admitsمَنْmanwhomيَشَاءُyashāuHe willsفِيfīin (to)رَحْمَتِهِraḥmatihiHis Mercyوَالظَّالِمُونَwal-ẓālimūnaAnd the wrongdoersمَاmānotلَهُمْlahumfor themمِنْminanyوَلِيٍّwaliyyinprotectorوَلَاwalāand notنَصِيرٍnaṣīrinany helper
9. 9أَمِamiOrاتَّخَذُواittakhadhūhave they takenمِنْminbesides Himدُونِهِdūnihibesides Himأَوْلِيَاءَawliyāaprotectorsفَاللَّهُfal-lahuBut AllahهُوَhuwaHeالْوَلِيُّl-waliyu(is) the Protectorوَهُوَwahuwaand Heيُحْيِيyuḥ'yīgives lifeالْمَوْتَىl-mawtā(to) the deadوَهُوَwahuwaAnd Heعَلَىʿalā(is) onكُلِّkullieveryشَيْءٍshayinthingقَدِيرٌqadīrunAll-Powerful
10. 10وَمَاwamāAnd whateverاخْتَلَفْتُمْikh'talaftumyou differفِيهِfīhiin itمِنْminofشَيْءٍshayina thingفَحُكْمُهُfaḥuk'muhuthen its rulingإِلَىilā(is) toاللَّهِl-lahiAllahذَلِكُمُdhālikumuThatاللَّهُl-lahu(is) Allahرَبِّيrabbīmy Lordعَلَيْهِʿalayhiupon HimتَوَكَّلْتُtawakkaltuI put my trustوَإِلَيْهِwa-ilayhiand to HimأُنِيبُunībuI turn
11. 11فَاطِرُfāṭiru(The) Creatorالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavensوَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthجَعَلَjaʿalaHe madeلَكُمْlakumfor youمِنْminfromأَنْفُسِكُمْanfusikumyourselvesأَزْوَاجًاazwājanmatesوَمِنَwaminaand amongالْأَنْعَامِl-anʿāmithe cattleأَزْوَاجًاazwājanmatesيَذْرَؤُكُمْyadhra-ukumHe multiplies youفِيهِfīhitherebyلَيْسَlaysa(There) is notكَمِثْلِهِkamith'lihilike Himشَيْءٌshayonanythingوَهُوَwahuwaand Heالسَّمِيعُl-samīʿu(is) the All-Hearerالْبَصِيرُl-baṣīruthe All-Seer
12. 12لَهُlahuTo Him (belongs)مَقَالِيدُmaqālīdu(the) keysالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavensوَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthيَبْسُطُyabsuṭuHe extendsالرِّزْقَl-riz'qathe provisionلِمَنْlimanfor whomيَشَاءُyashāuHe willsوَيَقْدِرُwayaqdiruand restrictsإِنَّهُinnahuIndeed Heبِكُلِّbikulliof everyشَيْءٍshayinthingعَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) All-Knower
13. 13شَرَعَsharaʿaHe has ordainedلَكُمْlakumfor youمِنَminaofالدِّينِl-dīnithe religionمَاmāwhatوَصَّىwaṣṣāHe enjoinedبِهِbihiuponنُوحًاnūḥanNuhوَالَّذِيwa-alladhīand that whichأَوْحَيْنَاawḥaynāWe have revealedإِلَيْكَilaykato youوَمَاwamāand whatوَصَّيْنَاwaṣṣaynāWe enjoinedبِهِbihiuponإِبْرَاهِيمَib'rāhīmaIbrahimوَمُوسَىwamūsāand Musaوَعِيسَىwaʿīsāand IsaأَنْanToأَقِيمُواaqīmūestablishالدِّينَl-dīnathe religionوَلَاwalāand notتَتَفَرَّقُواtatafarraqūbe dividedفِيهِfīhithereinكَبُرَkaburaIs difficultعَلَىʿalāonالْمُشْرِكِينَl-mush'rikīnathe polytheistsمَاmāwhatتَدْعُوهُمْtadʿūhumyou call themإِلَيْهِilayhito itاللَّهُl-lahuAllahيَجْتَبِيyajtabīchoosesإِلَيْهِilayhifor HimselfمَنْmanwhomيَشَاءُyashāuHe willsوَيَهْدِيwayahdīand guidesإِلَيْهِilayhito Himselfمَنْmanwhoeverيُنِيبُyunībuturns
14. 14وَمَاwamāAnd notتَفَرَّقُواtafarraqūthey became dividedإِلَّاillāuntilمِنْminafterبَعْدِbaʿdiafterمَاmā[what]جَاءَهُمُjāahumucame to themالْعِلْمُl-ʿil'muthe knowledgeبَغْيًاbaghyan(out of) rivalryبَيْنَهُمْbaynahumamong themوَلَوْلَاwalawlāAnd if notكَلِمَةٌkalimatun(for) a wordسَبَقَتْsabaqat(that) precededمِنْminfromرَبِّكَrabbikayour Lordإِلَىilāforأَجَلٍajalina termمُسَمًّىmusammanspecifiedلَقُضِيَlaquḍiyasurely, it (would have) been settledبَيْنَهُمْbaynahumbetween themوَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeedالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoأُورِثُواūrithūwere made to inheritالْكِتَابَl-kitābathe Bookمِنْminafter themبَعْدِهِمْbaʿdihimafter themلَفِيlafī(are) surely inشَكٍّshakkindoubtمِنْهُmin'huconcerning itمُرِيبٍmurībindisquieting
15. 15فَلِذَلِكَfalidhālikaSo to thatفَادْعُfa-ud'ʿuthen inviteوَاسْتَقِمْwa-is'taqimand stand firmكَمَاkamāasأُمِرْتَumir'tayou are commandedوَلَاwalāand (do) notتَتَّبِعْtattabiʿfollowأَهْوَاءَهُمْahwāahumtheir desiresوَقُلْwaqulbut sayءَامَنْتُāmantuI believeبِمَاbimāin whatأَنْزَلَanzalaAllah has sent downاللَّهُl-lahuAllah has sent downمِنْminofكِتَابٍkitābin(the) Bookوَأُمِرْتُwa-umir'tuand I am commandedلِأَعْدِلَli-aʿdilathat I do justiceبَيْنَكُمُbaynakumubetween youاللَّهُl-lahuAllahرَبُّنَاrabbunā(is) our Lordوَرَبُّكُمْwarabbukumand your LordلَنَاlanāFor usأَعْمَالُنَاaʿmālunāour deedsوَلَكُمْwalakumand for youأَعْمَالُكُمْaʿmālukumyour deedsلَاlā(There is) noحُجَّةَḥujjataargumentبَيْنَنَاbaynanābetween usوَبَيْنَكُمُwabaynakumuand between youاللَّهُl-lahuAllahيَجْمَعُyajmaʿuwill assembleبَيْنَنَاbaynanā[between] usوَإِلَيْهِwa-ilayhiand to Himالْمَصِيرُl-maṣīru(is) the final return
16. 16وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoيُحَاجُّونَyuḥājjūnaargueفِيfīconcerningاللَّهِl-lahiAllahمِنْminafterبَعْدِbaʿdiafterمَاmā[what]اسْتُجِيبَus'tujībaresponse has been made to Himلَهُlahuresponse has been made to Himحُجَّتُهُمْḥujjatuhumtheir argumentدَاحِضَةٌdāḥiḍatun(is) invalidعِنْدَʿindawithرَبِّهِمْrabbihimtheir Lordوَعَلَيْهِمْwaʿalayhimand upon themغَضَبٌghaḍabun(is) wrathوَلَهُمْwalahumand for themعَذَابٌʿadhābun(is) a punishmentشَدِيدٌshadīdunsevere
17. 17اللَّهُal-lahuAllahالَّذِيalladhī(is) the One Whoأَنْزَلَanzala(has) sent downالْكِتَابَl-kitābathe Bookبِالْحَقِّbil-ḥaqiin truthوَالْمِيزَانَwal-mīzānaand the BalanceوَمَاwamāAnd whatيُدْرِيكَyud'rīkawill make you knowلَعَلَّlaʿallaPerhapsالسَّاعَةَl-sāʿatathe Hourقَرِيبٌqarībun(is) near
18. 18يَسْتَعْجِلُyastaʿjiluSeek to hastenبِهَاbihā[of] itالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoلَاlā(do) notيُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnabelieveبِهَاbihāin itوَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaand those whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveمُشْفِقُونَmush'fiqūna(are) fearfulمِنْهَاmin'hāof itوَيَعْلَمُونَwayaʿlamūnaand knowأَنَّهَاannahāthat itالْحَقُّl-ḥaqu(is) the truthأَلَاalāUnquestionablyإِنَّinnaindeedالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoيُمَارُونَyumārūnadisputeفِيfīconcerningالسَّاعَةِl-sāʿatithe Hourلَفِيlafī(are) certainly inضَلَالٍḍalālinerrorبَعِيدٍbaʿīdinfar
19. 19اللَّهُal-lahuAllahلَطِيفٌlaṭīfun(is) Subtleبِعِبَادِهِbiʿibādihiwith His slavesيَرْزُقُyarzuquHe gives provisionمَنْman(to) whomيَشَاءُyashāuHe willsوَهُوَwahuwaAnd Heالْقَوِيُّl-qawiyu(is) the All-Strongالْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzuthe All-Mighty
20. 20مَنْmanWhoeverكَانَkānaisيُرِيدُyurīdudesiringحَرْثَḥartha(the) harvestالْءَاخِرَةِl-ākhirati(of) the HereafterنَزِدْnazidWe increaseلَهُlahufor himفِيfīinحَرْثِهِḥarthihihis harvestوَمَنْwamanAnd whoeverكَانَkānaisيُرِيدُyurīdudesiringحَرْثَḥartha(the) harvestالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the worldنُؤْتِهِnu'tihiWe give himمِنْهَاmin'hāof itوَمَاwamābut notلَهُlahufor himفِيfīinالْءَاخِرَةِl-ākhiratithe Hereafterمِنْminanyنَصِيبٍnaṣībinshare
21. 21أَمْamOrلَهُمْlahumfor themشُرَكَاءُshurakāu(are) partnersشَرَعُواsharaʿūwho have ordainedلَهُمْlahumfor themمِنَminaofالدِّينِl-dīnithe religionمَاmāwhatلَمْlamnotيَأْذَنْyadhanAllah has given permission of itبِهِbihiAllah has given permission of itاللَّهُl-lahuAllah has given permission of itوَلَوْلَاwalawlāAnd if notكَلِمَةُkalimatu(for) a wordالْفَصْلِl-faṣlidecisiveلَقُضِيَlaquḍiyasurely, it (would have) been judgedبَيْنَهُمْbaynahumbetween themوَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeedالظَّالِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoersلَهُمْlahumfor themعَذَابٌʿadhābun(is a) punishmentأَلِيمٌalīmunpainful
22. 22تَرَىtarāYou will seeالظَّالِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoersمُشْفِقِينَmush'fiqīnafearfulمِمَّاmimmāof whatكَسَبُواkasabūthey earnedوَهُوَwahuwaand itوَاقِعٌwāqiʿun(will) befallبِهِمْbihim[on] themوَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveوَعَمِلُواwaʿamilūand doالصَّالِحَاتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deedsفِيfī(will be) inرَوْضَاتِrawḍātiflowering meadowsالْجَنَّاتِl-janāti(of) the Gardensلَهُمْlahumfor themمَاmā(is) whateverيَشَاءُونَyashāūnathey wishعِنْدَʿindawithرَبِّهِمْrabbihimtheir LordذَلِكَdhālikaThatهُوَhuwaitالْفَضْلُl-faḍlu(is) the Bountyالْكَبِيرُl-kabīruthe Great
23. 23ذَلِكَdhālikaThatالَّذِيalladhī(is of) whichيُبَشِّرُyubashiruAllah gives glad tidingsاللَّهُl-lahuAllah gives glad tidingsعِبَادَهُʿibādahu(to) His slavesالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveوَعَمِلُواwaʿamilūand doالصَّالِحَاتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deedsقُلْqulSayلَاlāNotأَسْءَلُكُمْasalukumI ask youعَلَيْهِʿalayhifor itأَجْرًاajranany paymentإِلَّاillāexceptالْمَوَدَّةَl-mawadatathe loveفِيfīamongالْقُرْبَىl-qur'bāthe relativesوَمَنْwamanAnd whoeverيَقْتَرِفْyaqtarifearnsحَسَنَةًḥasanatanany goodنَزِدْnazidWe increaseلَهُlahufor himفِيهَاfīhāthereinحُسْنًاḥus'nangoodإِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahغَفُورٌghafūrun(is) Oft-ForgivingشَكُورٌshakūrunAll-Appreciative
24. 24أَمْamOrيَقُولُونَyaqūlūna(do) they sayافْتَرَىif'tarāHe has inventedعَلَىʿalāaboutاللَّهِl-lahiAllahكَذِبًاkadhibana lieفَإِنْfa-inBut ifيَشَإِyasha-iAllah (had) willedاللَّهُl-lahuAllah (had) willedيَخْتِمْyakhtimHe would sealعَلَىʿalā[over]قَلْبِكَqalbikayour heartوَيَمْحُwayamḥuAnd Allah eliminatesاللَّهُl-lahuAnd Allah eliminatesالْبَاطِلَl-bāṭilathe falsehoodوَيُحِقُّwayuḥiqquand establishesالْحَقَّl-ḥaqathe truthبِكَلِمَاتِهِbikalimātihiby His WordsإِنَّهُinnahuIndeed, Heعَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) All-Knowingبِذَاتِbidhātiof whatالصُّدُورِl-ṣudūri(is in) the breasts
25. 25وَهُوَwahuwaAnd Heالَّذِيalladhī(is) the One Whoيَقْبَلُyaqbaluacceptsالتَّوْبَةَl-tawbatathe repentanceعَنْʿanofعِبَادِهِʿibādihiHis slavesوَيَعْفُواwayaʿfūand pardonsعَنِʿani[of]السَّيِّئَاتِl-sayiātithe evilوَيَعْلَمُwayaʿlamuand He knowsمَاmāwhatتَفْعَلُونَtafʿalūnayou do
26. 26وَيَسْتَجِيبُwayastajībuAnd He answersالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveوَعَمِلُواwaʿamilūand doالصَّالِحَاتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deedsوَيَزِيدُهُمْwayazīduhumand increases (for) themمِنْminfromفَضْلِهِfaḍlihiHis Bountyوَالْكَافِرُونَwal-kāfirūnaAnd the disbelieversلَهُمْlahumfor themعَذَابٌʿadhābun(will be) a punishmentشَدِيدٌshadīdunsevere
27. 27وَلَوْwalawAnd ifبَسَطَbasaṭaAllah extendsاللَّهُl-lahuAllah extendsالرِّزْقَl-riz'qathe provisionلِعِبَادِهِliʿibādihifor His slavesلَبَغَوْاlabaghawsurely they would rebelفِيfīinالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthوَلَكِنْwalākinbutيُنَزِّلُyunazziluHe sends downبِقَدَرٍbiqadarinin (due) measureمَاmāwhatيَشَاءُyashāuHe willsإِنَّهُinnahuIndeed, Heبِعِبَادِهِbiʿibādihiof His slavesخَبِيرٌkhabīrun(is) All-AwareبَصِيرٌbaṣīrunAll-Seer
28. 28وَهُوَwahuwaAnd Heالَّذِيalladhī(is) the One Whoيُنَزِّلُyunazzilusends downالْغَيْثَl-ghaythathe rainمِنْminafterبَعْدِbaʿdiafterمَاmā[what]قَنَطُواqanaṭūthey have despairedوَيَنْشُرُwayanshuruand spreadsرَحْمَتَهُraḥmatahuHis mercyوَهُوَwahuwaAnd Heالْوَلِيُّl-waliyu(is) the Protectorالْحَمِيدُl-ḥamīduthe Praiseworthy
29. 29وَمِنْwaminAnd amongءَايَاتِهِāyātihiHis Signsخَلْقُkhalqu(is the) creationالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavensوَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthوَمَاwamāand whateverبَثَّbathaHe has dispersedفِيهِمَاfīhimāin both of themمِنْminofدَابَّةٍdābbatin(the) creaturesوَهُوَwahuwaAnd Heعَلَىʿalā(is) overجَمْعِهِمْjamʿihimtheir gatheringإِذَاidhāwhenيَشَاءُyashāuHe willsقَدِيرٌqadīrunAll-Powerful
30. 30وَمَاwamāAnd whateverأَصَابَكُمْaṣābakumbefalls youمِنْminofمُصِيبَةٍmuṣībatin(the) misfortuneفَبِمَاfabimā(is because) of whatكَسَبَتْkasabathave earnedأَيْدِيكُمْaydīkumyour handsوَيَعْفُواwayaʿfūBut He pardonsعَنْʿan[from]كَثِيرٍkathīrinmuch
31. 31وَمَاwamāAnd notأَنْتُمْantumyouبِمُعْجِزِينَbimuʿ'jizīna(can) escapeفِيfīinالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthوَمَاwamāand notلَكُمْlakumfor youمِنْminbesidesدُونِdūnibesidesاللَّهِl-lahiAllahمِنْminanyوَلِيٍّwaliyyinprotectorوَلَاwalāand notنَصِيرٍnaṣīrinany helper
32. 32وَمِنْwaminAnd amongءَايَاتِهِāyātihiHis Signsالْجَوَارِl-jawāri(are) the shipsفِيfīinالْبَحْرِl-baḥrithe seaكَالْأَعْلَامِkal-aʿlāmilike [the] mountains
33. 33إِنْinIfيَشَأْyashaHe willsيُسْكِنِyus'kiniHe can cause the wind to become stillالرِّيحَl-rīḥaHe can cause the wind to become stillفَيَظْلَلْنَfayaẓlalnathen they would remainرَوَاكِدَrawākidamotionlessعَلَىʿalāonظَهْرِهِẓahrihiits backإِنَّinnaIndeedفِيfīinذَلِكَdhālikathatلَءَايَاتٍlaāyātinsurely (are) Signsلِكُلِّlikullifor everyoneصَبَّارٍṣabbārinpatientشَكُورٍshakūrin(and) grateful
34. 34أَوْawOrيُوبِقْهُنَّyūbiq'hunnaHe could destroy themبِمَاbimāfor whatكَسَبُواkasabūthey have earnedوَيَعْفُwayaʿfubut He pardonsعَنْʿan[from]كَثِيرٍkathīrinmuch
35. 35وَيَعْلَمَwayaʿlamaAnd may knowالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoيُجَادِلُونَyujādilūnadisputeفِيfīconcerningءَايَاتِنَاāyātināOur Signsمَاmā(that) notلَهُمْlahumfor themمِنْminanyمَحِيصٍmaḥīṣinplace of refuge
36. 36فَمَاfamāSo whateverأُوتِيتُمْūtītumyou are givenمِنْminofشَيْءٍshayina thingفَمَتَاعُfamatāʿu(is) but a passing enjoymentالْحَيَوةِl-ḥayati(for) the lifeالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the worldوَمَاwamāBut whatعِنْدَʿinda(is) withاللَّهِl-lahiAllahخَيْرٌkhayrun(is) betterوَأَبْقَىwa-abqāand more lastingلِلَّذِينَlilladhīnafor those whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveوَعَلَىwaʿalāand uponرَبِّهِمْrabbihimtheir Lordيَتَوَكَّلُونَyatawakkalūnaput (their) trust
37. 37وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoيَجْتَنِبُونَyajtanibūnaavoidكَبَائِرَkabāira(the) greaterالْإِثْمِl-ith'misinsوَالْفَوَاحِشَwal-fawāḥishaand the immoralitiesوَإِذَاwa-idhāand whenمَاmāand whenغَضِبُواghaḍibūthey are angryهُمْhumtheyيَغْفِرُونَyaghfirūnaforgive
38. 38وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoاسْتَجَابُواis'tajābūrespondلِرَبِّهِمْlirabbihimto their Lordوَأَقَامُواwa-aqāmūand establishالصَّلَوةَl-ṣalataprayerوَأَمْرُهُمْwa-amruhumand their affairsشُورَىshūrā(are conducted by) consultationبَيْنَهُمْbaynahumamong themوَمِمَّاwamimmāand from whatرَزَقْنَاهُمْrazaqnāhumWe have provided themيُنْفِقُونَyunfiqūnathey spend
39. 39وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoإِذَاidhāwhenأَصَابَهُمُaṣābahumustrikes themالْبَغْيُl-baghyutyrannyهُمْhumtheyيَنْتَصِرُونَyantaṣirūnadefend themselves
40. 40وَجَزَؤُاwajazāu(The) recompenseسَيِّئَةٍsayyi-atin(of) an evilسَيِّئَةٌsayyi-atun(is) an evilمِثْلُهَاmith'luhālike itفَمَنْfamanBut whoeverعَفَاʿafāpardonsوَأَصْلَحَwa-aṣlaḥaand makes reconciliationفَأَجْرُهُfa-ajruhuthen his rewardعَلَىʿalā(is) onاللَّهِl-lahiAllahإِنَّهُinnahuIndeed Heلَاlā(does) notيُحِبُّyuḥibbulikeالظَّالِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers
41. 41وَلَمَنِwalamaniAnd surely whosoeverانْتَصَرَintaṣaradefends himselfبَعْدَbaʿdaafterظُلْمِهِẓul'mihihe has been wrongedفَأُولَئِكَfa-ulāikathen thoseمَاmānotعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhim(is) against themمِنْminanyسَبِيلٍsabīlinway
42. 42إِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyالسَّبِيلُl-sabīluthe wayعَلَىʿalāagainstالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoيَظْلِمُونَyaẓlimūnaoppressالنَّاسَl-nāsathe peopleوَيَبْغُونَwayabghūnaand rebelفِيfīinالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthبِغَيْرِbighayriwithoutالْحَقِّl-ḥaqirightأُولَئِكَulāikaThoseلَهُمْlahumfor themعَذَابٌʿadhābun(is) a punishmentأَلِيمٌalīmunpainful
43. 43وَلَمَنْwalamanAnd whoeverصَبَرَṣabara(is) patientوَغَفَرَwaghafaraand forgivesإِنَّinnaindeedذَلِكَdhālikathatلَمِنْlamin(is) surely ofعَزْمِʿazmimatters of determinationالْأُمُورِl-umūrimatters of determination
44. 44وَمَنْwamanAnd whoeverيُضْلِلِyuḍ'liliAllah lets go astrayاللَّهُl-lahuAllah lets go astrayفَمَاfamāthen notلَهُlahufor himمِنْminanyوَلِيٍّwaliyyinprotectorمِنْminafter Himبَعْدِهِbaʿdihiafter HimوَتَرَىwatarāAnd you will seeالظَّالِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoersلَمَّاlammāwhenرَأَوُاra-awūthey seeالْعَذَابَl-ʿadhābathe punishmentيَقُولُونَyaqūlūnasayingهَلْhalIsإِلَىilā(there) forمَرَدٍّmaraddinreturnمِنْminanyسَبِيلٍsabīlinway
45. 45وَتَرَاهُمْwatarāhumAnd you will see themيُعْرَضُونَyuʿ'raḍūnabeing exposedعَلَيْهَاʿalayhāto itخَاشِعِينَkhāshiʿīnahumbledمِنَminabyالذُّلِّl-dhulidisgraceيَنْظُرُونَyanẓurūnalookingمِنْminwithطَرْفٍṭarfina glanceخَفِيٍّkhafiyyinstealthyوَقَالَwaqālaAnd will sayالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelievedإِنَّinnaIndeedالْخَاسِرِينَl-khāsirīnathe losersالَّذِينَalladhīna(are) those whoخَسِرُواkhasirūlostأَنْفُسَهُمْanfusahumthemselvesوَأَهْلِيهِمْwa-ahlīhimand their familiesيَوْمَyawma(on the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the ResurrectionأَلَاalāUnquestionably!إِنَّinnaIndeedالظَّالِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoersفِيfī(are) inعَذَابٍʿadhābina punishmentمُقِيمٍmuqīminlasting
46. 46وَمَاwamāAnd notكَانَkānawill beلَهُمْlahumfor themمِنْminanyأَوْلِيَاءَawliyāaprotectorيَنْصُرُونَهُمْyanṣurūnahum(who) will help themمِنْminbesidesدُونِdūnibesidesاللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَمَنْwamanAnd whomيُضْلِلِyuḍ'liliAllah lets go astrayاللَّهُl-lahuAllah lets go astrayفَمَاfamāthen notلَهُlahufor himمِنْminanyسَبِيلٍsabīlinway
47. 47اسْتَجِيبُواis'tajībūRespondلِرَبِّكُمْlirabbikumto your Lordمِنْminbeforeقَبْلِqablibeforeأَنْan[that]يَأْتِيَyatiyacomesيَوْمٌyawmuna Dayلَاlā(there is) noمَرَدَّmaraddaavertingلَهُlahufor itمِنَminafromاللَّهِl-lahiAllahمَاmāNotلَكُمْlakum(is) for youمِنْminanyمَلْجَإٍmalja-inrefugeيَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhin(on) that Dayوَمَاwamāand notلَكُمْlakumfor youمِنْminanyنَكِيرٍnakīrindenial
48. 48فَإِنْfa-inThen ifأَعْرَضُواaʿraḍūthey turn awayفَمَاfamāthen notأَرْسَلْنَاكَarsalnākaWe have sent youعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimover themحَفِيظًاḥafīẓan(as) a guardianإِنْinNotعَلَيْكَʿalayka(is) on youإِلَّاillāexceptالْبَلَاغُl-balāghuthe conveyanceوَإِنَّاwa-innāAnd indeedإِذَاidhāwhenأَذَقْنَاadhaqnāWe cause to tasteالْإِنْسَانَl-insāna[the] manمِنَّاminnāfrom UsرَحْمَةًraḥmatanMercyفَرِحَfariḥahe rejoicesبِهَاbihāin itوَإِنْwa-inBut ifتُصِبْهُمْtuṣib'humbefalls themسَيِّئَةٌsayyi-atunevilبِمَاbimāfor whatقَدَّمَتْqaddamathave sent forthأَيْدِيهِمْaydīhimtheir handsفَإِنَّfa-innathen indeedالْإِنْسَانَl-insāna[the] manكَفُورٌkafūrun(is) ungrateful
49. 49لِلَّهِlillahiTo Allahمُلْكُmul'ku(belongs the) dominionالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavensوَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthيَخْلُقُyakhluquHe createsمَاmāwhatيَشَاءُyashāuHe willsيَهَبُyahabuHe grantsلِمَنْlimanto whomيَشَاءُyashāuHe willsإِنَاثًاināthanfemalesوَيَهَبُwayahabuand He grantsلِمَنْlimanto whomيَشَاءُyashāuHe willsالذُّكُورَl-dhukūra[the] males
50. 50أَوْawOrيُزَوِّجُهُمْyuzawwijuhumHe grants themذُكْرَانًاdhuk'rānanmalesوَإِنَاثًاwa-ināthanand femalesوَيَجْعَلُwayajʿaluand He makesمَنْmanwhomيَشَاءُyashāuHe willsعَقِيمًاʿaqīmanbarrenإِنَّهُinnahuIndeed Heعَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) All-KnowerقَدِيرٌqadīrunAll-Powerful
51. 51وَمَاwamāAnd notكَانَkānaisلِبَشَرٍlibasharinfor any humanأَنْanthatيُكَلِّمَهُyukallimahuAllah should speak to himاللَّهُl-lahuAllah should speak to himإِلَّاillāexceptوَحْيًاwaḥyan(by) revelationأَوْaworمِنْminfromوَرَاءِwarāibehindحِجَابٍḥijābina veilأَوْaworيُرْسِلَyur'sila(by) sendingرَسُولًاrasūlana Messengerفَيُوحِيَfayūḥiyathen he revealsبِإِذْنِهِbi-idh'nihiby His permissionمَاmāwhatيَشَاءُyashāuHe willsإِنَّهُinnahuIndeed, Heعَلِيٌّʿaliyyun(is) Most HighحَكِيمٌḥakīmunMost Wise
52. 52وَكَذَلِكَwakadhālikaAnd thusأَوْحَيْنَاawḥaynāWe have revealedإِلَيْكَilaykato youرُوحًاrūḥanan inspirationمِنْminbyأَمْرِنَاamrināOur CommandمَاmāNotكُنْتَkuntadid youتَدْرِيtadrīknowمَاmāwhatالْكِتَابُl-kitābuthe Book (is)وَلَاwalāand notالْإِيمَانُl-īmānuthe faithوَلَكِنْwalākinButجَعَلْنَاهُjaʿalnāhuWe have made itنُورًاnūrana lightنَهْدِيnahdīWe guideبِهِbihiwith itمَنْmanwhomنَشَاءُnashāuWe willمِنْminofعِبَادِنَاʿibādināOur slavesوَإِنَّكَwa-innakaAnd indeed youلَتَهْدِيlatahdīsurely guideإِلَىilātoصِرَاطٍṣirāṭin(the) pathمُسْتَقِيمٍmus'taqīminstraight
53. 53صِرَاطِṣirāṭi(The) pathاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahالَّذِيalladhīthe Oneلَهُlahuto Whomمَاmā(belongs) whateverفِيfī(is) inالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَمَاwamāand whateverفِيfī(is) inالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthأَلَاalāUnquestionablyإِلَىilāToاللَّهِl-lahiAllahتَصِيرُtaṣīrureachالْأُمُورُl-umūruall affairs
