بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Surah 39 — Az-Zumar

  1. 1تَنْزِيلُtanzīlu(The) revelationالْكِتَابِl-kitābi(of) the Bookمِنَmina(is) fromاللَّهِl-lahiAllahالْعَزِيزِl-ʿazīzithe All-Mightyالْحَكِيمِl-ḥakīmithe All-Wise
  2. 2إِنَّاinnāIndeed Weأَنْزَلْنَاanzalnā[We] have revealedإِلَيْكَilaykato youالْكِتَابَl-kitābathe Bookبِالْحَقِّbil-ḥaqiin truthفَاعْبُدِfa-uʿ'budiso worshipاللَّهَl-lahaAllahمُخْلِصًاmukh'liṣan(being) sincereلَهُlahuto Himالدِّينَl-dīna(in) the religion
  3. 3أَلَاalāUnquestionablyلِلَّهِlillahifor Allahالدِّينُl-dīnu(is) the religionالْخَالِصُl-khāliṣuthe pureوَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoاتَّخَذُواittakhadhūtakeمِنْminbesides Himدُونِهِdūnihibesides HimأَوْلِيَاءَawliyāaprotectorsمَاNotنَعْبُدُهُمْnaʿbuduhumwe worship themإِلَّاillāexceptلِيُقَرِّبُونَاliyuqarribūnāthat they may bring us nearإِلَىilātoاللَّهِl-lahiAllahزُلْفَىzul'fā(in) positionإِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahيَحْكُمُyaḥkumuwill judgeبَيْنَهُمْbaynahumbetween themفِيinمَاwhatهُمْhumtheyفِيهِfīhi[in it]يَخْتَلِفُونَyakhtalifūnadifferإِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahلَا(does) notيَهْدِيyahdīguideمَنْman(one) whoهُوَhuwa[he]كَاذِبٌkādhibun(is) a liarكَفَّارٌkaffārunand a disbeliever
  4. 4لَوْlawIfأَرَادَarādaAllah (had) intendedاللَّهُl-lahuAllah (had) intendedأَنْantoيَتَّخِذَyattakhidhatakeوَلَدًاwaladana sonلَاصْطَفَىla-iṣ'ṭafāsurely, He (could) have chosenمِمَّاmimmāfrom whatيَخْلُقُyakhluquHe createsمَاwhateverيَشَاءُyashāuHe willedسُبْحَانَهُsub'ḥānahuGlory be to HimهُوَhuwaHeاللَّهُl-lahu(is) Allahالْوَاحِدُl-wāḥiduthe Oneالْقَهَّارُl-qahāruthe Irresistible
  5. 5خَلَقَkhalaqaHe createdالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَالْأَرْضَwal-arḍaand the earthبِالْحَقِّbil-ḥaqiin [the] truthيُكَوِّرُyukawwiruHe wrapsاللَّيْلَal-laylathe nightعَلَىʿalāoverالنَّهَارِl-nahārithe dayوَيُكَوِّرُwayukawwiruand wrapsالنَّهَارَl-nahārathe dayعَلَىʿalāoverاللَّيْلِal-laylithe nightوَسَخَّرَwasakharaAnd He subjectedالشَّمْسَl-shamsathe sunوَالْقَمَرَwal-qamaraand the moonكُلٌّkulluneachيَجْرِيyajrīrunningلِأَجَلٍli-ajalinfor a termمُسَمًّىmusammanspecifiedأَلَاalāUnquestionablyهُوَhuwaHeالْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzu(is) the All-Mightyالْغَفَّارُl-ghafāruthe Oft-Forgiving
  6. 6خَلَقَكُمْkhalaqakumHe created youمِنْminfromنَفْسٍnafsina soulوَاحِدَةٍwāḥidatinsingleثُمَّthummaThenجَعَلَjaʿalaHe madeمِنْهَاmin'hāfrom itزَوْجَهَاzawjahāits mateوَأَنْزَلَwa-anzalaAnd He sent downلَكُمْlakumfor youمِنَminaofالْأَنْعَامِl-anʿāmithe cattleثَمَانِيَةَthamāniyataeightأَزْوَاجٍazwājinkindsيَخْلُقُكُمْyakhluqukumHe creates youفِيinبُطُونِbuṭūni(the) wombsأُمَّهَاتِكُمْummahātikum(of) your mothersخَلْقًاkhalqancreationمِنْminafterبَعْدِbaʿdiafterخَلْقٍkhalqincreationفِيinظُلُمَاتٍẓulumātindarkness[es]ثَلَاثٍthalāthinthreeذَلِكُمُdhālikumuThatاللَّهُl-lahu(is) Allahرَبُّكُمْrabbukumyour Lordلَهُlahufor Himالْمُلْكُl-mul'ku(is) the dominionلَا(There is) noإِلَهَilāhagodإِلَّاillāexceptهُوَhuwaHeفَأَنَّىfa-annāThen howتُصْرَفُونَtuṣ'rafūnaare you turning away
  7. 7إِنْinIfتَكْفُرُواtakfurūyou disbelieveفَإِنَّfa-innathen indeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahغَنِيٌّghaniyyun(is) free from needعَنْكُمْʿankumof youوَلَاwalāAnd notيَرْضَىyarḍāHe likesلِعِبَادِهِliʿibādihiin His slavesالْكُفْرَl-kuf'raungratefulnessوَإِنْwa-inAnd ifتَشْكُرُواtashkurūyou are gratefulيَرْضَهُyarḍahuHe likes itلَكُمْlakumin youوَلَاwalāAnd notتَزِرُtaziruwill bearوَازِرَةٌwāziratunbearer of burdensوِزْرَwiz'ra(the) burdenأُخْرَىukh'rā(of) anotherثُمَّthummaThenإِلَىilātoرَبِّكُمْrabbikumyour Lordمَرْجِعُكُمْmarjiʿukum(is) your returnفَيُنَبِّئُكُمْfayunabbi-ukumthen He will inform youبِمَاbimāabout whatكُنْتُمْkuntumyou used (to)تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnadoإِنَّهُinnahuIndeed, Heعَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) the All-Knowerبِذَاتِbidhātiof what (is) in the breastsالصُّدُورِl-ṣudūriof what (is) in the breasts
  8. 8وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenمَسَّmassatouchesالْإِنْسَانَl-insāna[the] manضُرٌّḍurrunadversityدَعَاdaʿāhe callsرَبَّهُrabbahu(to) his Lordمُنِيبًاmunībanturningإِلَيْهِilayhito HimثُمَّthummathenإِذَاidhāwhenخَوَّلَهُkhawwalahuHe bestows on himنِعْمَةًniʿ'matana favorمِنْهُmin'hufrom Himselfنَسِيَnasiyahe forgetsمَا(for) whatكَانَkānahe used to callيَدْعُواyadʿūhe used to callإِلَيْهِilayhi[to] Himمِنْminbeforeقَبْلُqablubeforeوَجَعَلَwajaʿalaand he sets upلِلَّهِlillahito Allahأَنْدَادًاandādanrivalsلِيُضِلَّliyuḍillato misleadعَنْʿanfromسَبِيلِهِsabīlihiHis PathقُلْqulSayتَمَتَّعْtamattaʿEnjoyبِكُفْرِكَbikuf'rikain your disbeliefقَلِيلًاqalīlan(for) a littleإِنَّكَinnakaIndeed, youمِنْmin(are) ofأَصْحَابِaṣḥābi(the) companionsالنَّارِl-nāri(of) the Fire
  9. 9أَمَّنْammanIs (one) whoهُوَhuwa[he]قَانِتٌqānitun(is) devoutly obedientءَانَاءَānāa(during) hoursاللَّيْلِal-layli(of) the nightسَاجِدًاsājidanprostratingوَقَائِمًاwaqāimanand standingيَحْذَرُyaḥdharufearingالْءَاخِرَةَl-ākhiratathe Hereafterوَيَرْجُواwayarjūand hopingرَحْمَةَraḥmata(for the) Mercyرَبِّهِrabbihi(of) his LordقُلْqulSayهَلْhalAreيَسْتَوِيyastawīequalالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknowوَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaand those whoلَا(do) notيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknowإِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyيَتَذَكَّرُyatadhakkaruwill take heedأُولُواulūthose of understandingالْأَلْبَابِl-albābithose of understanding
  10. 10قُلْqulSayيَاعِبَادِyāʿibādiO My slavesالَّذِينَalladhīna[those] whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieve!اتَّقُواittaqūFearرَبَّكُمْrabbakumyour LordلِلَّذِينَlilladhīnaFor those whoأَحْسَنُواaḥsanūdo goodفِيinهَذِهِhādhihithisالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yāworldحَسَنَةٌḥasanatun(is) goodوَأَرْضُwa-arḍuand the earthاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahوَاسِعَةٌwāsiʿatun(is) spaciousإِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyيُوَفَّىyuwaffāwill be paid back in fullالصَّابِرُونَl-ṣābirūnathe patientأَجْرَهُمْajrahumtheir rewardبِغَيْرِbighayriwithoutحِسَابٍḥisābinaccount
  11. 11قُلْqulSayإِنِّيinnīIndeed Iأُمِرْتُumir'tu[I] am commandedأَنْanthatأَعْبُدَaʿbudaI worshipاللَّهَl-lahaAllahمُخْلِصًاmukh'liṣan(being) sincereلَهُlahuto Himالدِّينَl-dīna(in) the religion
  12. 12وَأُمِرْتُwa-umir'tuAnd I am commandedلِأَنْli-anthatأَكُونَakūnaI beأَوَّلَawwala(the) firstالْمُسْلِمِينَl-mus'limīna(of) those who submit
  13. 13قُلْqulSayإِنِّيinnīIndeed Iأَخَافُakhāfu[I] fearإِنْinifعَصَيْتُʿaṣaytuI disobeyرَبِّيrabbīmy Lordعَذَابَʿadhāba(the) punishmentيَوْمٍyawmin(of) a Dayعَظِيمٍʿaẓīmingreat
  14. 14قُلِquliSayاللَّهَl-lahaI worship AllahأَعْبُدُaʿbuduI worship Allahمُخْلِصًاmukh'liṣan(being) sincereلَهُlahuto Himدِينِيdīnī(in) my religion
  15. 15فَاعْبُدُواfa-uʿ'budūSo worshipمَاwhatشِئْتُمْshi'tumyou willمِنْminbesides Himدُونِهِdūnihibesides HimقُلْqulSayإِنَّinnaIndeedالْخَاسِرِينَl-khāsirīnathe losersالَّذِينَalladhīna(are) those whoخَسِرُواkhasirū(will) loseأَنْفُسَهُمْanfusahumthemselvesوَأَهْلِيهِمْwa-ahlīhimand their familiesيَوْمَyawma(on the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the ResurrectionأَلَاalāUnquestionablyذَلِكَdhālikathatهُوَhuwaitالْخُسْرَانُl-khus'rānu(is) the lossالْمُبِينُl-mubīnuthe clear
  16. 16لَهُمْlahumFor themمِنْminfromفَوْقِهِمْfawqihimabove themظُلَلٌẓulaluncoveringsمِنَminaofالنَّارِl-nārithe Fireوَمِنْwaminand fromتَحْتِهِمْtaḥtihimbelow themظُلَلٌẓulaluncoveringsذَلِكَdhālika(With) thatيُخَوِّفُyukhawwifuthreatensاللَّهُl-lahuAllahبِهِbihi[with it]عِبَادَهُʿibādahuHis slavesيَاعِبَادِyāʿibādiO My slaves!فَاتَّقُونِfa-ittaqūniSo fear Me
  17. 17وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoاجْتَنَبُواij'tanabūavoidالطَّاغُوتَl-ṭāghūtathe false godsأَنْanlestيَعْبُدُوهَاyaʿbudūhāthey worship themوَأَنَابُواwa-anābūand turnإِلَىilātoاللَّهِl-lahiAllahلَهُمُlahumufor themالْبُشْرَىl-bush'rā(is) the glad tidingفَبَشِّرْfabashirSo give glad tidingsعِبَادِʿibādi(to) My slaves
  18. 18الَّذِينَalladhīnaThose whoيَسْتَمِعُونَyastamiʿūnathey listen (to)الْقَوْلَl-qawlathe Wordفَيَتَّبِعُونَfayattabiʿūnathen followأَحْسَنَهُaḥsanahuthe best thereofأُولَئِكَulāikathoseالَّذِينَalladhīna(are) they whomهَدَاهُمُhadāhumuAllah has guided themاللَّهُl-lahuAllah has guided themوَأُولَئِكَwa-ulāikaand thoseهُمْhumare [they]أُولُواulūthe men of understandingالْأَلْبَابِl-albābithe men of understanding
  19. 19أَفَمَنْafamanThen is (one) whoحَقَّḥaqqabecame dueعَلَيْهِʿalayhion himكَلِمَةُkalimatuthe wordالْعَذَابِl-ʿadhābi(of) the punishmentأَفَأَنْتَafa-antaThen can youتُنْقِذُtunqidhusaveمَنْman(one) whoفِي(is) inالنَّارِl-nārithe Fire
  20. 20لَكِنِlākiniButالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoاتَّقَوْاittaqawfearرَبَّهُمْrabbahumtheir Lordلَهُمْlahumfor themغُرَفٌghurafun(are) lofty mansionsمِنْminabove themفَوْقِهَاfawqihāabove themغُرَفٌghurafunlofty mansionsمَبْنِيَّةٌmabniyyatunbuilt highتَجْرِيtajrīflowمِنْminfromتَحْتِهَاtaḥtihābeneath themالْأَنْهَارُl-anhāruthe riversوَعْدَwaʿda(The) Promiseاللَّهِl-lahi(of) AllahلَاNotيُخْلِفُyukh'lifuAllah failsاللَّهُl-lahuAllah failsالْمِيعَادَl-mīʿāda(in His) promise
  21. 21أَلَمْalamDo notتَرَtarayou seeأَنَّannathatاللَّهَl-lahaAllahأَنْزَلَanzalasends downمِنَminafromالسَّمَاءِl-samāithe skyمَاءًmāanwaterفَسَلَكَهُfasalakahuand He makes it flowيَنَابِيعَyanābīʿa(as) springsفِيinالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthثُمَّthummathenيُخْرِجُyukh'rijuHe producesبِهِbihiwith itزَرْعًاzarʿancropsمُخْتَلِفًاmukh'talifan(of) differentأَلْوَانُهُalwānuhucolorsثُمَّthummathenيَهِيجُyahījuthey witherفَتَرَاهُfatarāhuand you see themمُصْفَرًّاmuṣ'farranturn yellowثُمَّthummathenيَجْعَلُهُyajʿaluhuHe makes themحُطَامًاḥuṭāmandebrisإِنَّinnaIndeedفِيinذَلِكَdhālikathatلَذِكْرَىladhik'rāsurely, (is) a reminderلِأُولِيli-ulīfor those of understandingالْأَلْبَابِl-albābifor those of understanding
  22. 22أَفَمَنْafamanSo is (one for) whomشَرَحَsharaḥaAllah has expandedاللَّهُl-lahuAllah has expandedصَدْرَهُṣadrahuhis breastلِلْإِسْلَامِlil'is'lāmifor Islamفَهُوَfahuwaso heعَلَىʿalā(is) uponنُورٍnūrina lightمِنْminfromرَبِّهِrabbihihis LordفَوَيْلٌfawaylunSo woeلِلْقَاسِيَةِlil'qāsiyatito (those are) hardenedقُلُوبُهُمْqulūbuhumtheir heartsمِنْminfromذِكْرِdhik'ri(the) remembrance of Allahاللَّهِl-lahi(the) remembrance of AllahأُولَئِكَulāikaThoseفِي(are) inضَلَالٍḍalālinerrorمُبِينٍmubīninclear
  23. 23اللَّهُal-lahuAllahنَزَّلَnazzalahas revealedأَحْسَنَaḥsana(the) bestالْحَدِيثِl-ḥadīthi(of) [the] statementكِتَابًاkitābana Bookمُتَشَابِهًاmutashābihan(its parts) resembling each otherمَثَانِيَmathāniyaoft-repeatedتَقْشَعِرُّtaqshaʿirruShiverمِنْهُmin'hufrom itجُلُودُjulūdu(the) skinsالَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those whoيَخْشَوْنَyakhshawnafearرَبَّهُمْrabbahumtheir Lordثُمَّthummathenتَلِينُtalīnurelaxجُلُودُهُمْjulūduhumtheir skinsوَقُلُوبُهُمْwaqulūbuhumand their heartsإِلَىilāatذِكْرِdhik'ri(the) remembranceاللَّهِl-lahi(of) AllahذَلِكَdhālikaThatهُدَىhudā(is the) guidanceاللَّهِl-lahi(of) AllahيَهْدِيyahdīHe guidesبِهِbihiwith itمَنْmanwhomيَشَاءُyashāuHe willsوَمَنْwamanAnd whoeverيُضْلِلِyuḍ'liliAllah lets go astrayاللَّهُl-lahuAllah lets go astrayفَمَاfamāthen notلَهُlahufor himمِنْminanyهَادٍhādinguide
  24. 24أَفَمَنْafamanThen (is) he whoيَتَّقِيyattaqīwill shieldبِوَجْهِهِbiwajhihiwith his faceسُوءَsūa(the) worstالْعَذَابِl-ʿadhābipunishmentيَوْمَyawma(on the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the ResurrectionوَقِيلَwaqīlaAnd it will be saidلِلظَّالِمِينَlilẓẓālimīnato the wrongdoersذُوقُواdhūqūTasteمَاwhatكُنْتُمْkuntumyou used (to)تَكْسِبُونَtaksibūnaearn
  25. 25كَذَّبَkadhabaDeniedالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoمِنْmin(were) before themقَبْلِهِمْqablihim(were) before themفَأَتَاهُمُfa-atāhumuso came upon themالْعَذَابُl-ʿadhābuthe punishmentمِنْminfromحَيْثُḥaythuwhereلَاnotيَشْعُرُونَyashʿurūnathey perceive
  26. 26فَأَذَاقَهُمُfa-adhāqahumuSo Allah made them tasteاللَّهُl-lahuSo Allah made them tasteالْخِزْيَl-khiz'yathe disgraceفِيinالْحَيَوةِl-ḥayatithe lifeالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the worldوَلَعَذَابُwalaʿadhābuand certainly (the) punishmentالْءَاخِرَةِl-ākhirati(of) the Hereafterأَكْبَرُakbaru(is) greaterلَوْlawifكَانُواkānūtheyيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknew
  27. 27وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd indeedضَرَبْنَاḍarabnāWe have set forthلِلنَّاسِlilnnāsifor peopleفِيinهَذَاhādhāthisالْقُرْءَانِl-qur'āniQuranمِنْminofكُلِّkullieveryمَثَلٍmathalinexampleلَعَلَّهُمْlaʿallahumso that they mayيَتَذَكَّرُونَyatadhakkarūnatake heed
  28. 28قُرْءَانًاqur'ānanA Quranعَرَبِيًّاʿarabiyyan(in) Arabicغَيْرَghayrawithoutذِيdhīanyعِوَجٍʿiwajincrookednessلَعَلَّهُمْlaʿallahumthat they mayيَتَّقُونَyattaqūnabecome righteous
  29. 29ضَرَبَḍarabaAllah sets forthاللَّهُl-lahuAllah sets forthمَثَلًاmathalanan exampleرَجُلًاrajulana manفِيهِfīhibelonging toشُرَكَاءُshurakāupartnersمُتَشَاكِسُونَmutashākisūnaquarrelingوَرَجُلًاwarajulanand a manسَلَمًاsalaman(belonging) exclusivelyلِرَجُلٍlirajulinto one manهَلْhalareيَسْتَوِيَانِyastawiyānithey both equalمَثَلًاmathalan(in) comparisonالْحَمْدُl-ḥamduAll praiseلِلَّهِlillahi(be) to AllahبَلْbalNayأَكْثَرُهُمْaktharuhummost of themلَا(do) notيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknow
  30. 30إِنَّكَinnakaIndeed youمَيِّتٌmayyitunwill dieوَإِنَّهُمْwa-innahumand indeed theyمَيِّتُونَmayyitūnawill (also) die
  31. 31ثُمَّthummaThenإِنَّكُمْinnakumindeed youيَوْمَyawma(on the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrectionعِنْدَʿindabeforeرَبِّكُمْrabbikumyour Lordتَخْتَصِمُونَtakhtaṣimūnawill dispute
  32. 32فَمَنْfamanThen whoأَظْلَمُaẓlamu(is) more unjustمِمَّنْmimmanthan (one) whoكَذَبَkadhabaliesعَلَىʿalāagainstاللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَكَذَّبَwakadhabaand deniesبِالصِّدْقِbil-ṣid'qithe truthإِذْidhwhenجَاءَهُjāahuit comes to himأَلَيْسَalaysaIs (there) notفِيinجَهَنَّمَjahannamaHellمَثْوًىmathwanan abodeلِلْكَافِرِينَlil'kāfirīnafor the disbelievers
  33. 33وَالَّذِيwa-alladhīAnd the one whoجَاءَjāabroughtبِالصِّدْقِbil-ṣid'qithe truthوَصَدَّقَwaṣaddaqaand believedبِهِbihiin itأُولَئِكَulāikathoseهُمُhumu[they]الْمُتَّقُونَl-mutaqūna(are) the righteous
  34. 34لَهُمْlahumFor themمَا(is) whatيَشَاءُونَyashāūnathey wishعِنْدَʿindawithرَبِّهِمْrabbihimtheir LordذَلِكَdhālikaThatجَزَاءُjazāu(is the) rewardالْمُحْسِنِينَl-muḥ'sinīna(of) the good-doers
  35. 35لِيُكَفِّرَliyukaffiraThat Allah will removeاللَّهُl-lahuThat Allah will removeعَنْهُمْʿanhumfrom themأَسْوَأَaswa-a(the) worstالَّذِيalladhī(of) whatعَمِلُواʿamilūthey didوَيَجْزِيَهُمْwayajziyahumand reward themأَجْرَهُمْajrahumtheir dueبِأَحْسَنِbi-aḥsanifor (the) bestالَّذِيalladhī(of) whatكَانُواkānūthey used (to)يَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūnado
  36. 36أَلَيْسَalaysaIs notاللَّهُl-lahuAllahبِكَافٍbikāfinsufficientعَبْدَهُʿabdahu(for) His slaveوَيُخَوِّفُونَكَwayukhawwifūnakaAnd they threaten youبِالَّذِينَbi-alladhīnawith thoseمِنْminbesides Himدُونِهِdūnihibesides HimوَمَنْwamanAnd whoeverيُضْلِلِyuḍ'liliAllah lets go astrayاللَّهُl-lahuAllah lets go astrayفَمَاfamāthen notلَهُlahufor himمِنْminanyهَادٍhādinguide
  37. 37وَمَنْwamanAnd whoeverيَهْدِyahdiAllah guidesاللَّهُl-lahuAllah guidesفَمَاfamāthen notلَهُlahufor himمِنْminanyمُضِلٍّmuḍillinmisleaderأَلَيْسَalaysaIs notاللَّهُl-lahuAllahبِعَزِيزٍbiʿazīzinAll-MightyذِيdhīAll-Able of retributionانْتِقَامٍintiqāminAll-Able of retribution
  38. 38وَلَئِنْwala-inAnd ifسَأَلْتَهُمْsa-altahumyou ask themمَنْmanwhoخَلَقَkhalaqacreatedالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَالْأَرْضَwal-arḍaand the earthلَيَقُولُنَّlayaqūlunnaSurely, they will sayاللَّهُl-lahuAllahقُلْqulSayأَفَرَءَيْتُمْafara-aytumThen do you seeمَاwhatتَدْعُونَtadʿūnayou invokeمِنْminbesidesدُونِdūnibesidesاللَّهِl-lahiAllahإِنْinifأَرَادَنِيَarādaniyaAllah intended for meاللَّهُl-lahuAllah intended for meبِضُرٍّbiḍurrinharmهَلْhalareهُنَّhunnatheyكَاشِفَاتُkāshifāturemoversضُرِّهِḍurrihi(of) harm (from) Himأَوْaworأَرَادَنِيarādanīif He intended for meبِرَحْمَةٍbiraḥmatinmercyهَلْhalareهُنَّhunnatheyمُمْسِكَاتُmum'sikātuwithholdersرَحْمَتِهِraḥmatihi(of) His mercyقُلْqulSayحَسْبِيَḥasbiyaSufficient (is) Allah for meاللَّهُl-lahuSufficient (is) Allah for meعَلَيْهِʿalayhiupon Himيَتَوَكَّلُyatawakkaluput trustالْمُتَوَكِّلُونَl-mutawakilūnathose who trust
  39. 39قُلْqulSayيَاقَوْمِyāqawmiO my people!اعْمَلُواiʿ'malūWorkعَلَىʿalā(according) toمَكَانَتِكُمْmakānatikumyour positionإِنِّيinnīindeed I amعَامِلٌʿāmilunworkingفَسَوْفَfasawfathen soonتَعْلَمُونَtaʿlamūnayou will know
  40. 40مَنْman(Upon) whomيَأْتِيهِyatīhiwill comeعَذَابٌʿadhābuna punishmentيُخْزِيهِyukh'zīhidisgracing himوَيَحِلُّwayaḥilluand descendsعَلَيْهِʿalayhion himعَذَابٌʿadhābuna punishmentمُقِيمٌmuqīmuneverlasting
  41. 41إِنَّاinnāIndeed WeأَنْزَلْنَاanzalnāWe revealedعَلَيْكَʿalaykato youالْكِتَابَl-kitābathe Bookلِلنَّاسِlilnnāsifor [the] mankindبِالْحَقِّbil-ḥaqiin truthفَمَنِfamaniSo whoeverاهْتَدَىih'tadāaccepts guidanceفَلِنَفْسِهِfalinafsihithen (it is) for his soulوَمَنْwamanand whoeverضَلَّḍallagoes astrayفَإِنَّمَاfa-innamāthen onlyيَضِلُّyaḍilluhe straysعَلَيْهَاʿalayhāagainst his (soul)وَمَاwamāAnd notأَنْتَantayouعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhim(are) over themبِوَكِيلٍbiwakīlina manager
  42. 42اللَّهُal-lahuAllahيَتَوَفَّىyatawaffātakesالْأَنْفُسَl-anfusathe soulsحِينَḥīna(at the) timeمَوْتِهَاmawtihā(of) their deathوَالَّتِيwa-allatīand the one whoلَمْlam(does) notتَمُتْtamutdieفِيinمَنَامِهَاmanāmihātheir sleepفَيُمْسِكُfayum'sikuThen He keepsالَّتِيallatīthe one whomقَضَىqaḍāHe has decreedعَلَيْهَاʿalayhāfor themالْمَوْتَl-mawtathe deathوَيُرْسِلُwayur'siluand sendsالْأُخْرَىl-ukh'rāthe othersإِلَىilāforأَجَلٍajalina termمُسَمًّىmusammanspecifiedإِنَّinnaIndeedفِيinذَلِكَdhālikathatلَءَايَاتٍlaāyātinsurely (are) signsلِقَوْمٍliqawminfor a peopleيَتَفَكَّرُونَyatafakkarūnawho ponder
  43. 43أَمِamiOrاتَّخَذُواittakhadhūhave they takenمِنْminbesidesدُونِdūnibesidesاللَّهِl-lahiAllahشُفَعَاءَshufaʿāaintercessorsقُلْqulSayأَوَلَوْawalawEven thoughكَانُواkānūthey wereلَاnotيَمْلِكُونَyamlikūnapossessingشَيْئًاshayananythingوَلَاwalāand notيَعْقِلُونَyaʿqilūnathey understand
  44. 44قُلْqulSayلِلَّهِlillahiTo Allah (belongs)الشَّفَاعَةُl-shafāʿatuthe intercessionجَمِيعًاjamīʿanallلَهُlahuFor Himمُلْكُmul'ku(is the) dominionالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavensوَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthثُمَّthummaThenإِلَيْهِilayhito Himتُرْجَعُونَtur'jaʿūnayou will be returned
  45. 45وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenذُكِرَdhukiraAllah is mentionedاللَّهُl-lahuAllah is mentionedوَحْدَهُwaḥdahuAloneاشْمَأَزَّتْish'ma-azzatshrink with aversionقُلُوبُqulūbu(the) heartsالَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those whoلَا(do) notيُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnabelieveبِالْءَاخِرَةِbil-ākhiratiin the Hereafterوَإِذَاwa-idhāand whenذُكِرَdhukiraare mentionedالَّذِينَalladhīnathoseمِنْminbesides Himدُونِهِdūnihibesides HimإِذَاidhābeholdهُمْhumTheyيَسْتَبْشِرُونَyastabshirūnarejoice
  46. 46قُلِquliSayاللَّهُمَّl-lahumaO Allah!فَاطِرَfāṭiraCreatorالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavensوَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthعَالِمَʿālimaKnowerالْغَيْبِl-ghaybi(of) the unseenوَالشَّهَادَةِwal-shahādatiand the witnessedأَنْتَantaYouتَحْكُمُtaḥkumuwill judgeبَيْنَbaynabetweenعِبَادِكَʿibādikaYour slavesفِيinمَاwhatكَانُواkānūthey used (to)فِيهِfīhithereinيَخْتَلِفُونَyakhtalifūnadiffer
  47. 47وَلَوْwalawAnd ifأَنَّannaAnd ifلِلَّذِينَlilladhīnathose whoظَلَمُواẓalamūdid wrongمَا(had) whateverفِي(is) inالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthجَمِيعًاjamīʿanallوَمِثْلَهُwamith'lahuand (the) like of itمَعَهُmaʿahuwith itلَافْتَدَوْاla-if'tadawthey would ransomبِهِbihiwith itمِنْminfromسُوءِsūi(the) evilالْعَذَابِl-ʿadhābi(of) the punishmentيَوْمَyawma(on the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the ResurrectionوَبَدَاwabadāAnd (will) appearلَهُمْlahumto themمِنَminafromاللَّهِl-lahiAllahمَاwhatلَمْlamnotيَكُونُواyakūnūthey hadيَحْتَسِبُونَyaḥtasibūnataken into account
  48. 48وَبَدَاwabadāAnd will become apparentلَهُمْlahumto themسَيِّئَاتُsayyiātu(the) evilsمَا(of) whatكَسَبُواkasabūthey earnedوَحَاقَwaḥāqaand will surroundبِهِمْbihimthemمَاwhatكَانُواkānūthey used (to)بِهِbihi[in it]يَسْتَهْزِءُونَyastahziūnamock
  49. 49فَإِذَاfa-idhāSo whenمَسَّmassatouchesالْإِنْسَانَl-insāna[the] manضُرٌّḍurrunadversityدَعَانَاdaʿānāhe calls upon UsثُمَّthummathenإِذَاidhāwhenخَوَّلْنَاهُkhawwalnāhuWe bestow (on) himنِعْمَةًniʿ'matana favorمِنَّاminnāfrom Usقَالَqālahe saysإِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyأُوتِيتُهُūtītuhuI have been given itعَلَىʿalāforعِلْمٍʿil'minknowledgeبَلْbalNayهِيَhiyaitفِتْنَةٌfit'natun(is) a trialوَلَكِنَّwalākinnabutأَكْثَرَهُمْaktharahummost of themلَا(do) notيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknow
  50. 50قَدْqadIndeedقَالَهَاqālahāsaid itالَّذِينَalladhīnathoseمِنْminbefore themقَبْلِهِمْqablihimbefore themفَمَاfamābut (did) notأَغْنَىaghnāavailعَنْهُمْʿanhumthemمَاwhatكَانُواkānūthey used (to)يَكْسِبُونَyaksibūnaearn
  51. 51فَأَصَابَهُمْfa-aṣābahumThen struck themسَيِّئَاتُsayyiātu(the) evilsمَا(of) whatكَسَبُواkasabūthey earnedوَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoظَلَمُواẓalamūhave wrongedمِنْminofهَؤُلَاءِhāulāitheseسَيُصِيبُهُمْsayuṣībuhumwill strike themسَيِّئَاتُsayyiātu(the) evilsمَا(of) whatكَسَبُواkasabūthey earnedوَمَاwamāand notهُمْhumtheyبِمُعْجِزِينَbimuʿ'jizīnawill be able to escape
  52. 52أَوَلَمْawalamDo notيَعْلَمُواyaʿlamūthey knowأَنَّannathatاللَّهَl-lahaAllahيَبْسُطُyabsuṭuextendsالرِّزْقَl-riz'qathe provisionلِمَنْlimanfor whomيَشَاءُyashāuHe willsوَيَقْدِرُwayaqdiruand restrictsإِنَّinnaIndeedفِيinذَلِكَdhālikathatلَءَايَاتٍlaāyātinsurely (are) signsلِقَوْمٍliqawminfor a peopleيُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnawho believe
  53. 53قُلْqulSayيَاعِبَادِيَyāʿibādiyaO My slaves!الَّذِينَalladhīnaThose whoأَسْرَفُواasrafūhave transgressedعَلَىʿalāagainstأَنْفُسِهِمْanfusihimthemselvesلَا(do) notتَقْنَطُواtaqnaṭūdespairمِنْminofرَحْمَةِraḥmati(the) Mercyاللَّهِl-lahi(of) AllahإِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahيَغْفِرُyaghfiruforgivesالذُّنُوبَl-dhunūbathe sinsجَمِيعًاjamīʿanallإِنَّهُinnahuIndeed HeهُوَhuwaHeالْغَفُورُl-ghafūru(is) the Oft-Forgivingالرَّحِيمُl-raḥīmuthe Most Merciful
  54. 54وَأَنِيبُواwa-anībūAnd turnإِلَىilātoرَبِّكُمْrabbikumyour Lordوَأَسْلِمُواwa-aslimūand submitلَهُlahuto Himمِنْminbeforeقَبْلِqablibeforeأَنْan[that]يَأْتِيَكُمُyatiyakumucomes to youالْعَذَابُl-ʿadhābuthe punishmentثُمَّthummathenلَاnotتُنْصَرُونَtunṣarūnayou will be helped
  55. 55وَاتَّبِعُواwa-ittabiʿūAnd followأَحْسَنَaḥsana(the) bestمَا(of) whatأُنْزِلَunzilais revealedإِلَيْكُمْilaykumto youمِنْminfromرَبِّكُمْrabbikumyour Lordمِنْminbeforeقَبْلِqablibeforeأَنْan[that]يَأْتِيَكُمُyatiyakumucomes to youالْعَذَابُl-ʿadhābuthe punishmentبَغْتَةًbaghtatansuddenlyوَأَنْتُمْwa-antumwhile youلَا(do) notتَشْعُرُونَtashʿurūnaperceive
  56. 56أَنْanLestتَقُولَtaqūlashould sayنَفْسٌnafsuna soulيَاحَسْرَتَىyāḥasratāOh! My regretعَلَىʿalāoverمَاwhatفَرَّطْتُfarraṭtuI neglectedفِيinجَنْبِjanbiregard toاللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَإِنْwa-inand thatكُنْتُkuntuI wasلَمِنَlaminasurely amongالسَّاخِرِينَl-sākhirīnathe mockers
  57. 57أَوْawOrتَقُولَtaqūlait should sayلَوْlawIf onlyأَنَّannaIf onlyاللَّهَl-lahaAllahهَدَانِيhadānī(had) guided meلَكُنْتُlakuntusurely, I (would) have beenمِنَminaamongالْمُتَّقِينَl-mutaqīnathe righteous
  58. 58أَوْawOrتَقُولَtaqūlait should sayحِينَḥīnawhenتَرَىtarāit seesالْعَذَابَl-ʿadhābathe punishmentلَوْlawIfأَنَّannaonlyلِيI hadكَرَّةًkarratananother chanceفَأَكُونَfa-akūnathen I could beمِنَminaamongالْمُحْسِنِينَl-muḥ'sinīnathe good-doers
  59. 59بَلَىbalāNayقَدْqadverilyجَاءَتْكَjāatkacame to youءَايَاتِيāyātīMy Versesفَكَذَّبْتَfakadhabtabut you deniedبِهَاbihāthemوَاسْتَكْبَرْتَwa-is'takbartaand were arrogantوَكُنْتَwakuntaand you wereمِنَminaamongالْكَافِرِينَl-kāfirīnathe disbelievers
  60. 60وَيَوْمَwayawmaAnd (on the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrectionتَرَىtarāyou will seeالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَذَبُواkadhabūliedعَلَىʿalāaboutاللَّهِl-lahiAllahوُجُوهُهُمْwujūhuhumtheir facesمُسْوَدَّةٌmus'waddatun(will be) blackenedأَلَيْسَalaysaIs (there) notفِيinجَهَنَّمَjahannamaHellمَثْوًىmathwanan abodeلِلْمُتَكَبِّرِينَlil'mutakabbirīnafor the arrogant
  61. 61وَيُنَجِّيwayunajjīAnd Allah will deliverاللَّهُl-lahuAnd Allah will deliverالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoاتَّقَوْاittaqawfeared (Him)بِمَفَازَتِهِمْbimafāzatihimto their place of salvationلَاnotيَمَسُّهُمُyamassuhumuwill touch themالسُّوءُl-sūuthe evilوَلَاwalāand notهُمْhumtheyيَحْزَنُونَyaḥzanūnawill grieve
  62. 62اللَّهُal-lahuAllahخَالِقُkhāliqu(is the) Creatorكُلِّkulli(of) allشَيْءٍshayinthingsوَهُوَwahuwaand Heعَلَىʿalā(is) overكُلِّkulliallشَيْءٍshayinthingsوَكِيلٌwakīluna Guardian
  63. 63لَهُlahuFor Himمَقَالِيدُmaqālīdu(are the) keysالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavensوَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthوَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelieveبِءَايَاتِbiāyātiin (the) Versesاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahأُولَئِكَulāikathoseهُمُhumutheyالْخَاسِرُونَl-khāsirūna(are) the losers
  64. 64قُلْqulSayأَفَغَيْرَafaghayraIs (it) other thanاللَّهِl-lahiAllahتَأْمُرُونِّيtamurūnnīyou order meأَعْبُدُaʿbudu(to) worshipأَيُّهَاayyuhāOالْجَاهِلُونَl-jāhilūnaignorant ones
  65. 65وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd verilyأُوحِيَūḥiyait has been revealedإِلَيْكَilaykato youوَإِلَىwa-ilāand toالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoمِنْmin(were) before youقَبْلِكَqablika(were) before youلَئِنْla-inifأَشْرَكْتَashraktayou associate (with Allah)لَيَحْبَطَنَّlayaḥbaṭannasurely, will become worthlessعَمَلُكَʿamalukayour deedsوَلَتَكُونَنَّwalatakūnannaand you will surely beمِنَminaamongالْخَاسِرِينَl-khāsirīnathe losers
  66. 66بَلِbaliNayاللَّهَl-lahaBut worship Allahفَاعْبُدْfa-uʿ'budBut worship Allahوَكُنْwakunand beمِنَminaamongالشَّاكِرِينَl-shākirīnathe thankful ones
  67. 67وَمَاwamāAnd notقَدَرُواqadarūthey appraisedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahحَقَّḥaqqa(with) trueقَدْرِهِqadrihiappraisalوَالْأَرْضُwal-arḍuwhile the earthجَمِيعًاjamīʿanentirelyقَبْضَتُهُqabḍatuhu(will be) in His Gripيَوْمَyawma(on the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrectionوَالسَّمَاوَاتُwal-samāwātuand the heavensمَطْوِيَّاتٌmaṭwiyyātun(will be) foldedبِيَمِينِهِbiyamīnihiin His Right Handسُبْحَانَهُsub'ḥānahuGlory be to Him!وَتَعَالَىwataʿālāAnd High is Heعَمَّاʿammāabove whatيُشْرِكُونَyush'rikūnathey associate (with Him)
  68. 68وَنُفِخَwanufikhaAnd (will) be blownفِي[in]الصُّورِl-ṣūrithe trumpetفَصَعِقَfaṣaʿiqathen (will) fall deadمَنْmanwhoeverفِي(is) inالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَمَنْwamanand whoeverفِي(is) onالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthإِلَّاillāexceptمَنْmanwhomشَاءَshāaAllah willsاللَّهُl-lahuAllah willsثُمَّthummaThenنُفِخَnufikha(it will) be blownفِيهِfīhi[in it]أُخْرَىukh'rāa second timeفَإِذَاfa-idhāand beholdهُمْhumTheyقِيَامٌqiyāmun(will be) standingيَنْظُرُونَyanẓurūnawaiting
  69. 69وَأَشْرَقَتِwa-ashraqatiAnd (will) shineالْأَرْضُl-arḍuthe earthبِنُورِbinūriwith (the) lightرَبِّهَاrabbihā(of) its Lordوَوُضِعَwawuḍiʿaand (will) be placedالْكِتَابُl-kitābuthe Recordوَجِاىءَwajīaand (will) be broughtبِالنَّبِيِّينَbil-nabiyīnathe Prophetsوَالشُّهَدَاءِwal-shuhadāiand the witnessesوَقُضِيَwaquḍiyaand it (will) be judgedبَيْنَهُمْbaynahumbetween themبِالْحَقِّbil-ḥaqiin truthوَهُمْwahumand theyلَاwill not be wrongedيُظْلَمُونَyuẓ'lamūnawill not be wronged
  70. 70وَوُفِّيَتْwawuffiyatAnd (will) be paid in fullكُلُّkullueveryنَفْسٍnafsinsoulمَاwhatعَمِلَتْʿamilatit didوَهُوَwahuwaand Heأَعْلَمُaʿlamu(is the) Best-Knowerبِمَاbimāof whatيَفْعَلُونَyafʿalūnathey do
  71. 71وَسِيقَwasīqaAnd (will) be drivenالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelieveإِلَىilātoجَهَنَّمَjahannamaHellزُمَرًاzumaran(in) groupsحَتَّىḥattāuntilإِذَاidhāwhenجَاءُوهَاjāūhāthey reach itفُتِحَتْfutiḥat(will) be openedأَبْوَابُهَاabwābuhāits gatesوَقَالَwaqālaand (will) sayلَهُمْlahumto themخَزَنَتُهَاkhazanatuhāits keepersأَلَمْalamDid notيَأْتِكُمْyatikumcome to youرُسُلٌrusulunMessengersمِنْكُمْminkumfrom youيَتْلُونَyatlūnarecitingعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumto youءَايَاتِāyāti(the) Versesرَبِّكُمْrabbikum(of) your Lordوَيُنْذِرُونَكُمْwayundhirūnakumand warning youلِقَاءَliqāa(of the) meetingيَوْمِكُمْyawmikum(of) your DayهَذَاhādhāthisقَالُواqālūThey (will) sayبَلَىbalāNay!وَلَكِنْwalākinButحَقَّتْḥaqqathas been justifiedكَلِمَةُkalimatu(the) wordالْعَذَابِl-ʿadhābi(of) punishmentعَلَىʿalāagainstالْكَافِرِينَl-kāfirīnathe disbelievers
  72. 72قِيلَqīlaIt will be saidادْخُلُواud'khulūEnterأَبْوَابَabwāba(the) gatesجَهَنَّمَjahannama(of) Hellخَالِدِينَkhālidīna(to) abide eternallyفِيهَاfīhāthereinفَبِئْسَfabi'saand wretched isمَثْوَىmathwā(the) abodeالْمُتَكَبِّرِينَl-mutakabirīna(of) the arrogant
  73. 73وَسِيقَwasīqaAnd (will) be drivenالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoاتَّقَوْاittaqawfearedرَبَّهُمْrabbahumtheir Lordإِلَىilātoالْجَنَّةِl-janatiParadiseزُمَرًاzumaran(in) groupsحَتَّىḥattāuntilإِذَاidhāwhenجَاءُوهَاjāūhāthey reach itوَفُتِحَتْwafutiḥatand (will) be openedأَبْوَابُهَاabwābuhāits gatesوَقَالَwaqālaand (will) sayلَهُمْlahumto themخَزَنَتُهَاkhazanatuhāits keepersسَلَامٌsalāmunPeace beعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumupon youطِبْتُمْṭib'tumyou have done wellفَادْخُلُوهَاfa-ud'khulūhāso enter itخَالِدِينَkhālidīna(to) abide eternally
  74. 74وَقَالُواwaqālūAnd they will sayالْحَمْدُl-ḥamduAll praiseلِلَّهِlillahi(be) to AllahالَّذِيalladhīWhoصَدَقَنَاṣadaqanāhas fulfilled for usوَعْدَهُwaʿdahuHis promiseوَأَوْرَثَنَاwa-awrathanāand has made us inheritالْأَرْضَl-arḍathe earthنَتَبَوَّأُnatabawwa-uwe may settleمِنَminainالْجَنَّةِl-janatiParadiseحَيْثُḥaythuwhereverنَشَاءُnashāuwe willفَنِعْمَfaniʿ'maSo excellent isأَجْرُajru(the) rewardالْعَامِلِينَl-ʿāmilīna(of) the workers
  75. 75وَتَرَىwatarāAnd you will seeالْمَلَائِكَةَl-malāikatathe Angelsحَافِّينَḥāffīnasurroundingمِنْmin[from]حَوْلِḥawliaroundالْعَرْشِl-ʿarshithe Throneيُسَبِّحُونَyusabbiḥūnaglorifyingبِحَمْدِbiḥamdi(the) praiseرَبِّهِمْrabbihim(of) their LordوَقُضِيَwaquḍiyaAnd (will) be judgedبَيْنَهُمْbaynahumbetween themبِالْحَقِّbil-ḥaqiin truthوَقِيلَwaqīlaand it will be saidالْحَمْدُl-ḥamduAll praise beلِلَّهِlillahito Allahرَبِّrabbi(the) Lordالْعَالَمِينَl-ʿālamīna(of) the worlds
