Surah 28 — Al-Qasas

  2. 2تِلْكَtil'kaTheseءَايَاتُāyātu(are the) Versesالْكِتَابِl-kitābi(of) the Bookالْمُبِينِl-mubīnithe clear
  3. 3نَتْلُواnatlūWe reciteعَلَيْكَʿalaykato youمِنْminfromنَبَإِnaba-i(the) newsمُوسَىmūsā(of) Musaوَفِرْعَوْنَwafir'ʿawnaand Firaunبِالْحَقِّbil-ḥaqiin truthلِقَوْمٍliqawminfor a peopleيُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnawho believe
  4. 4إِنَّinnaIndeedفِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawnaFiraunعَلَاʿalāexalted himselfفِيinالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe landوَجَعَلَwajaʿalaand madeأَهْلَهَاahlahāits peopleشِيَعًاshiyaʿan(into) sectsيَسْتَضْعِفُyastaḍʿifuoppressingطَائِفَةًṭāifatana groupمِنْهُمْmin'humamong themيُذَبِّحُyudhabbiḥuslaughteringأَبْنَاءَهُمْabnāahumtheir sonsوَيَسْتَحْيِيwayastaḥyīand letting liveنِسَاءَهُمْnisāahumtheir womenإِنَّهُinnahuIndeed heكَانَkānawasمِنَminaofالْمُفْسِدِينَl-muf'sidīnathe corrupters
  5. 5وَنُرِيدُwanurīduAnd We wantedأَنْantoنَمُنَّnamunnabestow a favorعَلَىʿalāuponالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoاسْتُضْعِفُواus'tuḍ'ʿifūwere oppressedفِيinالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe landوَنَجْعَلَهُمْwanajʿalahumand make themأَئِمَّةًa-immatanleadersوَنَجْعَلَهُمُwanajʿalahumuand make themالْوَارِثِينَl-wārithīnathe inheritors
  6. 6وَنُمَكِّنَwanumakkinaAnd [We] establishلَهُمْlahumthemفِيinالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe landوَنُرِيَwanuriyaand showفِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawnaFiraunوَهَامَانَwahāmānaand Hamanوَجُنُودَهُمَاwajunūdahumāand their hostsمِنْهُمْmin'humthrough themمَاwhatكَانُواkānūthey wereيَحْذَرُونَyaḥdharūnafearing
  7. 7وَأَوْحَيْنَاwa-awḥaynāAnd We inspiredإِلَىilā[to]أُمِّummi(the) motherمُوسَىmūsā(of) MusaأَنْanthatأَرْضِعِيهِarḍiʿīhiSuckle himفَإِذَاfa-idhābut whenخِفْتِkhif'tiyou fearعَلَيْهِʿalayhifor himفَأَلْقِيهِfa-alqīhithen cast himفِيin(to)الْيَمِّl-yamithe riverوَلَاwalāand (do) notتَخَافِيtakhāfīfearوَلَاwalāand (do) notتَحْزَنِيtaḥzanīgrieveإِنَّاinnāIndeed Weرَادُّوهُrāddūhu(will) restore himإِلَيْكِilaykito youوَجَاعِلُوهُwajāʿilūhuand (will) make himمِنَminaofالْمُرْسَلِينَl-mur'salīnathe Messengers
  8. 8فَالْتَقَطَهُfal-taqaṭahuThen picked him upءَالُālu(the) familyفِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawna(of) Firaunلِيَكُونَliyakūnaso that he might becomeلَهُمْlahumto themعَدُوًّاʿaduwwanan enemyوَحَزَنًاwaḥazananand a griefإِنَّinnaIndeedفِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawnaFiraunوَهَامَانَwahāmānaand Hamanوَجُنُودَهُمَاwajunūdahumāand their hostsكَانُواkānūwereخَاطِءِينَkhāṭiīnasinners
  9. 9وَقَالَتِwaqālatiAnd saidامْرَأَتُim'ra-atu(the) wifeفِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawna(of) FiraunقُرَّتُqurratuA comfortعَيْنٍʿaynin(of the) eyeلِيfor meوَلَكَwalakaand for youلَا(Do) notتَقْتُلُوهُtaqtulūhukill himعَسَىʿasāperhapsأَنْan(that)يَنْفَعَنَاyanfaʿanāhe may benefit usأَوْaworنَتَّخِذَهُnattakhidhahuwe may take himوَلَدًاwaladan(as) a sonوَهُمْwahumAnd theyلَا(did) notيَشْعُرُونَyashʿurūnaperceive
  10. 10وَأَصْبَحَwa-aṣbaḥaAnd becameفُؤَادُfuādu(the) heartأُمِّummi(of the) motherمُوسَىmūsā(of) MusaفَارِغًاfārighanemptyإِنْinThatكَادَتْkādatshe was nearلَتُبْدِيlatub'dī(to) disclosingبِهِbihiabout himلَوْلَاlawlāif notأَنْanthatرَبَطْنَاrabaṭnāWe strengthenedعَلَىʿalā[over]قَلْبِهَاqalbihāher heartلِتَكُونَlitakūnaso that she would beمِنَminaofالْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believers
  11. 11وَقَالَتْwaqālatAnd she saidلِأُخْتِهِli-ukh'tihito his sisterقُصِّيهِquṣṣīhiFollow himفَبَصُرَتْfabaṣuratSo she watchedبِهِbihihimعَنْʿanfromجُنُبٍjunubina distanceوَهُمْwahumwhile theyلَا(did) notيَشْعُرُونَyashʿurūnaperceive
  12. 12وَحَرَّمْنَاwaḥarramnāAnd We had forbiddenعَلَيْهِʿalayhifor himالْمَرَاضِعَl-marāḍiʿathe wet nursesمِنْminbeforeقَبْلُqablubeforeفَقَالَتْfaqālatso she saidهَلْhalShall Iأَدُلُّكُمْadullukumdirect youعَلَىʿalātoأَهْلِahli(the) peopleبَيْتٍbaytin(of) a houseيَكْفُلُونَهُyakfulūnahuwho will rear himلَكُمْlakumfor youوَهُمْwahumwhile theyلَهُlahuto himنَاصِحُونَnāṣiḥūna(will be) sincere
  13. 13فَرَدَدْنَاهُfaradadnāhuSo We restored himإِلَىilātoأُمِّهِummihihis motherكَيْkaythatتَقَرَّtaqarramight be comfortedعَيْنُهَاʿaynuhāher eyeوَلَاwalāand notتَحْزَنَtaḥzanashe may grieveوَلِتَعْلَمَwalitaʿlamaand that she would knowأَنَّannathatوَعْدَwaʿdathe Promise of Allahاللَّهِl-lahithe Promise of Allahحَقٌّḥaqqun(is) trueوَلَكِنَّwalākinnaButأَكْثَرَهُمْaktharahummost of themلَا(do) notيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknow
  14. 14وَلَمَّاwalammāAnd whenبَلَغَbalaghahe reachedأَشُدَّهُashuddahuhis full strengthوَاسْتَوَىwa-is'tawāand became matureءَاتَيْنَاهُātaynāhuWe bestowed upon himحُكْمًاḥuk'manwisdomوَعِلْمًاwaʿil'manand knowledgeوَكَذَلِكَwakadhālikaAnd thusنَجْزِيnajzīWe rewardالْمُحْسِنِينَl-muḥ'sinīnathe good-doers
  15. 15وَدَخَلَwadakhalaAnd he enteredالْمَدِينَةَl-madīnatathe cityعَلَىʿalāatحِينِḥīnia timeغَفْلَةٍghaflatin(of) inattentionمِنْminofأَهْلِهَاahlihāits peopleفَوَجَدَfawajadaand foundفِيهَاfīhāthereinرَجُلَيْنِrajulaynitwo menيَقْتَتِلَانِyaqtatilānifighting each otherهَذَاhādhāthisمِنْminofشِيعَتِهِshīʿatihihis partyوَهَذَاwahādhāand thisمِنْminofعَدُوِّهِʿaduwwihihis enemyفَاسْتَغَاثَهُfa-is'taghāthahuAnd called him for helpالَّذِيalladhīthe one whoمِنْmin(was) fromشِيعَتِهِshīʿatihihis partyعَلَىʿalāagainstالَّذِيalladhīthe one whoمِنْmin(was) fromعَدُوِّهِʿaduwwihihis enemyفَوَكَزَهُfawakazahuso Musa struck him with his fistمُوسَىmūsāso Musa struck him with his fistفَقَضَىfaqaḍāand killed himعَلَيْهِʿalayhiand killed himقَالَqālaHe saidهَذَاhādhāThis (is)مِنْminofعَمَلِʿamali(the) deedالشَّيْطَانِl-shayṭāni(of) ShaitaanإِنَّهُinnahuIndeed, heعَدُوٌّʿaduwwun(is) an enemyمُضِلٌّmuḍillunone who misleadsمُبِينٌmubīnunclearly
  16. 16قَالَqālaHe saidرَبِّrabbiMy Lord!إِنِّيinnīIndeed Iظَلَمْتُẓalamtu[I] have wrongedنَفْسِيnafsīmy soulفَاغْفِرْfa-igh'firso forgiveلِي[for] meفَغَفَرَfaghafaraThen He forgaveلَهُlahu[for] himإِنَّهُinnahuIndeed HeهُوَhuwaHe (is)الْغَفُورُl-ghafūruthe Oft-Forgivingالرَّحِيمُl-raḥīmuthe Most Merciful
  17. 17قَالَqālaHe saidرَبِّrabbiMy Lord!بِمَاbimāBecauseأَنْعَمْتَanʿamtaYou have favoredعَلَيَّʿalayya[on] meفَلَنْfalanso notأَكُونَakūnaI will beظَهِيرًاẓahīrana supporterلِلْمُجْرِمِينَlil'muj'rimīna(of) the criminals
  18. 18فَأَصْبَحَfa-aṣbaḥaIn the morning he wasفِيinالْمَدِينَةِl-madīnatithe cityخَائِفًاkhāifanfearfulيَتَرَقَّبُyataraqqabu(and) was vigilantفَإِذَاfa-idhāwhen behold!الَّذِيalladhīThe one whoاسْتَنْصَرَهُis'tanṣarahusought his helpبِالْأَمْسِbil-amsithe previous dayيَسْتَصْرِخُهُyastaṣrikhuhucried out to him for helpقَالَqālaSaidلَهُlahuto himمُوسَىmūsāMusaإِنَّكَinnakaIndeed youلَغَوِيٌّlaghawiyyun(are) surely a deviatorمُبِينٌmubīnunclear
  19. 19فَلَمَّاfalammāThen whenأَنْan[that]أَرَادَarādahe wantedأَنْantoيَبْطِشَyabṭishastrikeبِالَّذِيbi-alladhīthe one whoهُوَhuwa[he] (was)عَدُوٌّʿaduwwunan enemyلَهُمَاlahumāto both of themقَالَqālahe saidيَامُوسَىyāmūsāO Musa!أَتُرِيدُaturīduDo you intendأَنْantoتَقْتُلَنِيtaqtulanīkill meكَمَاkamāasقَتَلْتَqataltayou killedنَفْسًاnafsana personبِالْأَمْسِbil-amsiyesterdayإِنْinNotتُرِيدُturīduyou wantإِلَّاillābutأَنْanthatتَكُونَtakūnayou becomeجَبَّارًاjabbārana tyrantفِيinالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthوَمَاwamāand notتُرِيدُturīduyou wantأَنْanthatتَكُونَtakūnayou beمِنَminaofالْمُصْلِحِينَl-muṣ'liḥīnathe reformers
  20. 20وَجَاءَwajāaAnd cameرَجُلٌrajuluna manمِنْminfromأَقْصَاaqṣā(the) farthest endالْمَدِينَةِl-madīnati(of) the cityيَسْعَىyasʿārunningقَالَqālaHe saidيَامُوسَىyāmūsāO Musa!إِنَّinnaIndeedالْمَلَأَl-mala-athe chiefsيَأْتَمِرُونَyatamirūnaare taking counselبِكَbikaabout youلِيَقْتُلُوكَliyaqtulūkato kill youفَاخْرُجْfa-ukh'rujso leaveإِنِّيinnīindeed I amلَكَlakato youمِنَminaofالنَّاصِحِينَl-nāṣiḥīnathe sincere advisors
  21. 21فَخَرَجَfakharajaSo he leftمِنْهَاmin'hāfrom itخَائِفًاkhāifanfearingيَتَرَقَّبُyataraqqabu(and) vigilantقَالَqālaHe saidرَبِّrabbiMy Lord!نَجِّنِيnajjinīSave meمِنَminafromالْقَوْمِl-qawmithe peopleالظَّالِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers
  22. 22وَلَمَّاwalammāAnd whenتَوَجَّهَtawajjahahe turned his faceتِلْقَاءَtil'qāatowardsمَدْيَنَmadyanaMadyanقَالَqālahe saidعَسَىʿasāPerhapsرَبِّيrabbīmy Lordأَنْan[that]يَهْدِيَنِيyahdiyanīwill guide meسَوَاءَsawāa(to the) soundالسَّبِيلِl-sabīliway
  23. 23وَلَمَّاwalammāAnd whenوَرَدَwaradahe cameمَاءَmāa(to the) waterمَدْيَنَmadyana(of) Madyanوَجَدَwajadahe foundعَلَيْهِʿalayhion itأُمَّةًummatana groupمِنَminaofالنَّاسِl-nāsimenيَسْقُونَyasqūnawateringوَوَجَدَwawajadaand he foundمِنْminbesides themدُونِهِمُdūnihimubesides themامْرَأَتَيْنِim'ra-ataynitwo womenتَذُودَانِtadhūdānikeeping backقَالَqālaHe saidمَاWhatخَطْبُكُمَاkhaṭbukumā(is the) matter with both of youقَالَتَاqālatāThey saidلَاWe cannot waterنَسْقِيnasqīWe cannot waterحَتَّىḥattāuntilيُصْدِرَyuṣ'diratake awayالرِّعَاءُl-riʿāuthe shepherdsوَأَبُونَاwa-abūnāand our fatherشَيْخٌshaykhun(is) a very old manكَبِيرٌkabīrun(is) a very old man
  24. 24فَسَقَىfasaqāSo he wateredلَهُمَاlahumāfor themثُمَّthummaThenتَوَلَّىtawallāhe turned backإِلَىilātoالظِّلِّl-ẓilithe shadeفَقَالَfaqālaand saidرَبِّrabbiMy Lord!إِنِّيinnīIndeed I amلِمَاlimāof whateverأَنْزَلْتَanzaltaYou sendإِلَيَّilayyato meمِنْminofخَيْرٍkhayringoodفَقِيرٌfaqīrun(in) need
  25. 25فَجَاءَتْهُfajāathuThen came to himإِحْدَاهُمَاiḥ'dāhumāone of the two womenتَمْشِيtamshīwalkingعَلَىʿalāwithاسْتِحْيَاءٍis'tiḥ'yāinshynessقَالَتْqālatShe saidإِنَّinnaIndeedأَبِيabīmy fatherيَدْعُوكَyadʿūkacalls youلِيَجْزِيَكَliyajziyakathat he may reward youأَجْرَajra(the) rewardمَا(for) whatسَقَيْتَsaqaytayou wateredلَنَاlanāfor usفَلَمَّاfalammāSo whenجَاءَهُjāahuhe came to himوَقَصَّwaqaṣṣaand narratedعَلَيْهِʿalayhito himالْقَصَصَl-qaṣaṣathe storyقَالَqālahe saidلَا(Do) notتَخَفْtakhaffearنَجَوْتَnajawtaYou have escapedمِنَminafromالْقَوْمِl-qawmithe peopleالظَّالِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers
  26. 26قَالَتْqālatSaidإِحْدَاهُمَاiḥ'dāhumāone of themيَاأَبَتِyāabatiO my father!اسْتَءْجِرْهُis'tajir'huHire himإِنَّinnaIndeedخَيْرَkhayra(the) bestمَنِmaniwhomاسْتَءْجَرْتَis'tajartayou (can) hireالْقَوِيُّl-qawiyu(is) the strongالْأَمِينُl-amīnuthe trustworthy
  27. 27قَالَqālaHe saidإِنِّيinnīIndeed, Iأُرِيدُurīdu[I] wishأَنْantoأُنْكِحَكَunkiḥakamarry you toإِحْدَىiḥ'dāoneابْنَتَيَّib'natayya(of) my daughtersهَاتَيْنِhātayni(of) these twoعَلَىʿalāonأَنْanthatتَأْجُرَنِيtajuranīyou serve meثَمَانِيَthamāniya(for) eightحِجَجٍḥijajinyearsفَإِنْfa-inbut ifأَتْمَمْتَatmamtayou completeعَشْرًاʿashrantenفَمِنْfaminthen fromعِنْدِكَʿindikayouوَمَاwamāAnd notأُرِيدُurīduI wishأَنْantoأَشُقَّashuqqamake it difficultعَلَيْكَʿalaykafor youسَتَجِدُنِيsatajidunīYou will find meإِنْinifشَاءَshāaAllah willsاللَّهُl-lahuAllah willsمِنَminaofالصَّالِحِينَl-ṣāliḥīnathe righteous
  28. 28قَالَqālaHe saidذَلِكَdhālikaThatبَيْنِيbaynī(is) between meوَبَيْنَكَwabaynakaand between youأَيَّمَاayyamāWhicheverالْأَجَلَيْنِl-ajalayni(of) the two termsقَضَيْتُqaḍaytuI completeفَلَاfalāthen noعُدْوَانَʿud'wānainjusticeعَلَيَّʿalayyato meوَاللَّهُwal-lahuand Allahعَلَىʿalāoverمَاwhatنَقُولُnaqūluwe sayوَكِيلٌwakīlun(is) a Witness
  29. 29فَلَمَّاfalammāThen whenقَضَىqaḍāMusa fulfilledمُوسَىmūsāMusa fulfilledالْأَجَلَl-ajalathe termوَسَارَwasāraand was travelingبِأَهْلِهِbi-ahlihiwith his familyءَانَسَānasahe sawمِنْmininجَانِبِjānibi(the) directionالطُّورِl-ṭūri(of) Mount Turنَارًاnārana fireقَالَqālaHe saidلِأَهْلِهِli-ahlihito his familyامْكُثُواum'kuthūStay hereإِنِّيinnīindeed, Iءَانَسْتُānastu[I] perceiveنَارًاnārana fireلَعَلِّيlaʿallīPerhapsءَاتِيكُمْātīkumI will bring youمِنْهَاmin'hāfrom thereبِخَبَرٍbikhabarinsome informationأَوْaworجَذْوَةٍjadhwatina burning woodمِنَminafromالنَّارِl-nārithe fireلَعَلَّكُمْlaʿallakumso that you mayتَصْطَلُونَtaṣṭalūnawarm yourselves
  30. 30فَلَمَّاfalammāBut whenأَتَاهَاatāhāhe came (to) itنُودِيَnūdiyahe was calledمِنْminfromشَاطِئِshāṭi-i(the) sideالْوَادِl-wādi(of) the valleyالْأَيْمَنِl-aymanithe rightفِيinالْبُقْعَةِl-buq'ʿatithe place evenالْمُبَارَكَةِl-mubārakatiblessedمِنَminafromالشَّجَرَةِl-shajaratithe treeأَنْanthatيَامُوسَىyāmūsāO Musa!إِنِّيinnīIndeedأَنَاanāI Amاللَّهُl-lahuAllahرَبُّrabbu(the) Lordالْعَالَمِينَl-ʿālamīna(of) the worlds
  31. 31وَأَنْwa-anAnd [that]أَلْقِalqithrowعَصَاكَʿaṣākayour staffفَلَمَّاfalammāBut whenرَءَاهَاraāhāhe saw itتَهْتَزُّtahtazzumovingكَأَنَّهَاka-annahāas if itجَانٌّjānnun(were) a snakeوَلَّىwallāhe turnedمُدْبِرًاmud'biran(in) flightوَلَمْwalamand (did) notيُعَقِّبْyuʿaqqibreturnيَامُوسَىyāmūsāO Musa!أَقْبِلْaqbilDraw nearوَلَاwalāand (do) notتَخَفْtakhaffearإِنَّكَinnakaIndeed youمِنَmina(are) ofالْءَامِنِينَl-āminīnathe secure
  32. 32اسْلُكْus'lukInsertيَدَكَyadakayour handفِيinجَيْبِكَjaybikayour bosomتَخْرُجْtakhrujit will come forthبَيْضَاءَbayḍāawhiteمِنْminwithoutغَيْرِghayriwithoutسُوءٍsūinany harmوَاضْمُمْwa-uḍ'mumAnd drawإِلَيْكَilaykato yourselvesجَنَاحَكَjanāḥakayour handمِنَminaagainstالرَّهْبِl-rahbifearفَذَانِكَfadhānikaSo theseبُرْهَانَانِbur'hānāni(are) two evidencesمِنْminfromرَبِّكَrabbikayour Lordإِلَىilātoفِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawnaFiraunوَمَلَإيهِwamala-ihiand his chiefsإِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed, theyكَانُواkānūareقَوْمًاqawmana peopleفَاسِقِينَfāsiqīnadefiantly disobedient
  33. 33قَالَqālaHe saidرَبِّrabbiMy Lord!إِنِّيinnīIndeedقَتَلْتُqataltuI killedمِنْهُمْmin'humof themنَفْسًاnafsana manفَأَخَافُfa-akhāfuand I fearأَنْanthatيَقْتُلُونِyaqtulūnithey will kill me
  34. 34وَأَخِيwa-akhīAnd my brotherهَارُونُhārūnuHarunهُوَhuwaheأَفْصَحُafṣaḥu(is) more eloquentمِنِّيminnīthan meلِسَانًاlisānan(in) speechفَأَرْسِلْهُfa-arsil'huso send himمَعِيَmaʿiyawith meرِدْءًاrid'an(as) a helperيُصَدِّقُنِيyuṣaddiqunīwho will confirm meإِنِّيinnīIndeedأَخَافُakhāfuI fearأَنْanthatيُكَذِّبُونِyukadhibūnithey will deny me
  35. 35قَالَqālaHe saidسَنَشُدُّsanashudduWe will strengthenعَضُدَكَʿaḍudakayour armبِأَخِيكَbi-akhīkathrough your brotherوَنَجْعَلُwanajʿaluand We will makeلَكُمَاlakumāfor both of youسُلْطَانًاsul'ṭānanan authorityفَلَاfalāso notيَصِلُونَyaṣilūnathey will reachإِلَيْكُمَاilaykumāto both of youبِءَايَاتِنَاbiāyātināThrough Our Signsأَنْتُمَاantumāyou twoوَمَنِwamaniand (those) whoاتَّبَعَكُمَاittabaʿakumāfollow youالْغَالِبُونَl-ghālibūna(will) be the dominant
  36. 36فَلَمَّاfalammāBut whenجَاءَهُمْjāahumcame to themمُوسَىmūsāMusaبِءَايَاتِنَاbiāyātināwith Our Signsبَيِّنَاتٍbayyinātinclearقَالُواqālūthey saidمَاNotهَذَاhādhā(is) thisإِلَّاillāexceptسِحْرٌsiḥ'runa magicمُفْتَرًىmuf'taraninventedوَمَاwamāand notسَمِعْنَاsamiʿ'nāwe heardبِهَذَاbihādhāof thisفِيamongءَابَائِنَاābāināour forefathersالْأَوَّلِينَl-awalīnaour forefathers
  37. 37وَقَالَwaqālaAnd Musa saidمُوسَىmūsāAnd Musa saidرَبِّيrabbīMy Lordأَعْلَمُaʿlamuknows bestبِمَنْbimanof whoجَاءَjāahas comeبِالْهُدَىbil-hudāwith [the] guidanceمِنْminfrom Himعِنْدِهِʿindihifrom Himوَمَنْwamanand whoتَكُونُtakūnuwill beلَهُlahufor himعَاقِبَةُʿāqibatuthe good end in the Hereafterالدَّارِl-dārithe good end in the HereafterإِنَّهُinnahuIndeedلَاnotيُفْلِحُyuf'liḥuwill be successfulالظَّالِمُونَl-ẓālimūnathe wrongdoers
  38. 38وَقَالَwaqālaAnd Firaun saidفِرْعَوْنُfir'ʿawnuAnd Firaun saidيَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO chiefsالْمَلَأُl-mala-uO chiefsمَاNotعَلِمْتُʿalim'tuI knowلَكُمْlakumfor youمِنْminanyإِلَهٍilāhingodغَيْرِيghayrīother than meفَأَوْقِدْfa-awqidSo kindleلِيfor meيَاهَامَانُyāhāmānuO HamanعَلَىʿalāUponالطِّينِl-ṭīnithe clayفَاجْعَلْfa-ij'ʿaland makeلِيfor meصَرْحًاṣarḥana lofty towerلَعَلِّيlaʿallīso that [I]أَطَّلِعُaṭṭaliʿuI may lookإِلَىilāatإِلَهِilāhi(the) Godمُوسَىmūsā(of) Musaوَإِنِّيwa-innīAnd indeed, Iلَأَظُنُّهُla-aẓunnuhu[I] think that heمِنَmina(is) ofالْكَاذِبِينَl-kādhibīnathe liars
  39. 39وَاسْتَكْبَرَwa-is'takbaraAnd he was arrogantهُوَhuwaAnd he was arrogantوَجُنُودُهُwajunūduhuand his hostsفِيinالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe landبِغَيْرِbighayriwithoutالْحَقِّl-ḥaqirightوَظَنُّواwaẓannūand they thoughtأَنَّهُمْannahumthat theyإِلَيْنَاilaynāto Usلَاnotيُرْجَعُونَyur'jaʿūnawill be returned
  40. 40فَأَخَذْنَاهُfa-akhadhnāhuSo We seized himوَجُنُودَهُwajunūdahuand his hostsفَنَبَذْنَاهُمْfanabadhnāhumand We threw themفِيinالْيَمِّl-yamithe seaفَانْظُرْfa-unẓurSo seeكَيْفَkayfahowكَانَkānawasعَاقِبَةُʿāqibatu(the) endالظَّالِمِينَl-ẓālimīna(of) the wrongdoers
  41. 41وَجَعَلْنَاهُمْwajaʿalnāhumAnd We made themأَئِمَّةًa-immatanleadersيَدْعُونَyadʿūnainvitingإِلَىilātoالنَّارِl-nārithe Fireوَيَوْمَwayawmaand (on the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrectionلَاnotيُنْصَرُونَyunṣarūnathey will be helped
  42. 42وَأَتْبَعْنَاهُمْwa-atbaʿnāhumAnd We caused to follow themفِيinهَذِهِhādhihithisالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yāworldلَعْنَةًlaʿnatana curseوَيَوْمَwayawmaand (on the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrectionهُمْhumtheyمِنَmina(will be) ofالْمَقْبُوحِينَl-maqbūḥīnathe despised
  43. 43وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd verilyءَاتَيْنَاātaynāWe gaveمُوسَىmūsāMusaالْكِتَابَl-kitābathe Scriptureمِنْminafter [what]بَعْدِbaʿdiafter [what]مَاafter [what]أَهْلَكْنَاahlaknāWe had destroyedالْقُرُونَl-qurūnathe generationsالْأُولَىl-ūlāformerبَصَائِرَbaṣāira(as) an enlightenmentلِلنَّاسِlilnnāsifor the mankindوَهُدًىwahudanand a guidanceوَرَحْمَةًwaraḥmatanand mercyلَعَلَّهُمْlaʿallahumthat they mayيَتَذَكَّرُونَyatadhakkarūnaremember
  44. 44وَمَاwamāAnd notكُنْتَkuntayou wereبِجَانِبِbijānibion (the) sideالْغَرْبِيِّl-gharbiyiwesternإِذْidhwhenقَضَيْنَاqaḍaynāWe decreedإِلَىilātoمُوسَىmūsāMusaالْأَمْرَl-amrathe Commandmentوَمَاwamāand notكُنْتَkuntayou wereمِنَminaamongالشَّاهِدِينَl-shāhidīnathe witnesses
  45. 45وَلَكِنَّاwalākinnāBut Weأَنْشَأْنَاanshanā[We] producedقُرُونًاqurūnangenerationsفَتَطَاوَلَfataṭāwalaand prolongedعَلَيْهِمُʿalayhimufor themالْعُمُرُl-ʿumuruthe lifeوَمَاwamāAnd notكُنْتَkuntayou wereثَاوِيًاthāwiyana dwellerفِيamongأَهْلِahli(the) peopleمَدْيَنَmadyana(of) Madyanتَتْلُواtatlūrecitingعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimto themءَايَاتِنَاāyātināOur Versesوَلَكِنَّاwalākinnābut Weكُنَّاkunnā[We] wereمُرْسِلِينَmur'silīnathe Senders
  46. 46وَمَاwamāAnd notكُنْتَkuntayou wereبِجَانِبِbijānibiat (the) sideالطُّورِl-ṭūri(of) the TurإِذْidhwhenنَادَيْنَاnādaynāWe calledوَلَكِنْwalākinButرَحْمَةًraḥmatan(as) a mercyمِنْminfromرَبِّكَrabbikayour Lordلِتُنْذِرَlitundhiraso that you warnقَوْمًاqawmana peopleمَاnotأَتَاهُمْatāhum(had) come to themمِنْminanyنَذِيرٍnadhīrinwarnerمِنْminbefore youقَبْلِكَqablikabefore youلَعَلَّهُمْlaʿallahumso that they mayيَتَذَكَّرُونَyatadhakkarūnaremember
  47. 47وَلَوْلَاwalawlāAnd if notأَنْan[that]تُصِيبَهُمْtuṣībahumstruck themمُصِيبَةٌmuṣībatuna disasterبِمَاbimāfor whatقَدَّمَتْqaddamathad sent forthأَيْدِيهِمْaydīhimtheir handsفَيَقُولُواfayaqūlūand they would sayرَبَّنَاrabbanāOur Lord!لَوْلَاlawlāWhy notأَرْسَلْتَarsaltaYou sentإِلَيْنَاilaynāto usرَسُولًاrasūlana Messengerفَنَتَّبِعَfanattabiʿaso we (could have) followedءَايَاتِكَāyātikaYour Versesوَنَكُونَwanakūnaand we (would) have beenمِنَminaofالْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believers
  48. 48فَلَمَّاfalammāBut whenجَاءَهُمُjāahumucame to themالْحَقُّl-ḥaquthe truthمِنْminfrom Usعِنْدِنَاʿindināfrom Usقَالُواqālūthey saidلَوْلَاlawlāWhy notأُوتِيَūtiyahe was givenمِثْلَmith'la(the) likeمَا(of) whatأُوتِيَūtiyawas givenمُوسَىmūsā(to) MusaأَوَلَمْawalamDid notيَكْفُرُواyakfurūthey disbelieveبِمَاbimāin whatأُوتِيَūtiyawas givenمُوسَىmūsā(to) MusaمِنْminbeforeقَبْلُqablubeforeقَالُواqālūThey saidسِحْرَانِsiḥ'rāniTwo magic (works)تَظَاهَرَاtaẓāharāsupporting each otherوَقَالُواwaqālūAnd they saidإِنَّاinnāIndeed, weبِكُلٍّbikullinin allكَافِرُونَkāfirūna(are) disbelievers
  49. 49قُلْqulSayفَأْتُواfatūThen bringبِكِتَابٍbikitābina Bookمِنْminfrom Allahعِنْدِʿindifrom Allahاللَّهِl-lahifrom Allahهُوَhuwawhichأَهْدَىahdā(is) a better guideمِنْهُمَاmin'humāthan both of themأَتَّبِعْهُattabiʿ'huthat I may follow itإِنْinifكُنْتُمْkuntumyou areصَادِقِينَṣādiqīnatruthful
  50. 50فَإِنْfa-inBut ifلَمْlamnotيَسْتَجِيبُواyastajībūthey respondلَكَlakato youفَاعْلَمْfa-iʿ'lamthen knowأَنَّمَاannamāthat onlyيَتَّبِعُونَyattabiʿūnathey followأَهْوَاءَهُمْahwāahumtheir desiresوَمَنْwamanAnd whoأَضَلُّaḍallu(is) more astrayمِمَّنِmimmanithan (one) whoاتَّبَعَittabaʿafollowsهَوَاهُhawāhuhis own desireبِغَيْرِbighayriwithoutهُدًىhudanguidanceمِنَminafromاللَّهِl-lahiAllahإِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahلَا(does) notيَهْدِيyahdīguideالْقَوْمَl-qawmathe peopleالظَّالِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers
  51. 51وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd indeedوَصَّلْنَاwaṣṣalnāWe have conveyedلَهُمُlahumuto themالْقَوْلَl-qawlathe Wordلَعَلَّهُمْlaʿallahumso that they mayيَتَذَكَّرُونَyatadhakkarūnaremember
  52. 52الَّذِينَalladhīnaThose whoءَاتَيْنَاهُمُātaynāhumuWe gave themالْكِتَابَl-kitābathe Scriptureمِنْminbefore itقَبْلِهِqablihibefore itهُمْhumtheyبِهِbihiin itيُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnabelieve
  53. 53وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenيُتْلَىyut'lāit is recitedعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimto themقَالُواqālūthey sayءَامَنَّاāmannāWe believeبِهِbihiin itإِنَّهُinnahuIndeed, itالْحَقُّl-ḥaqu(is) the truthمِنْminfromرَبِّنَاrabbināour LordإِنَّاinnāIndeed, weكُنَّاkunnā[we] wereمِنْminbefore itقَبْلِهِqablihibefore itمُسْلِمِينَmus'limīnaMuslims
  54. 54أُولَئِكَulāikaThoseيُؤْتَوْنَyu'tawnawill be givenأَجْرَهُمْajrahumtheir rewardمَرَّتَيْنِmarrataynitwiceبِمَاbimābecauseصَبَرُواṣabarūthey are patientوَيَدْرَءُونَwayadraūnaand they repelبِالْحَسَنَةِbil-ḥasanatiwith goodالسَّيِّئَةَl-sayi-atathe evilوَمِمَّاwamimmāand from whatرَزَقْنَاهُمْrazaqnāhumWe have provided themيُنْفِقُونَyunfiqūnathey spend
  55. 55وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenسَمِعُواsamiʿūthey hearاللَّغْوَl-laghwavain talkأَعْرَضُواaʿraḍūthey turn awayعَنْهُʿanhufrom itوَقَالُواwaqālūand sayلَنَاlanāFor usأَعْمَالُنَاaʿmālunāour deedsوَلَكُمْwalakumand for youأَعْمَالُكُمْaʿmālukumyour deedsسَلَامٌsalāmunPeace (be)عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumon youلَاnotنَبْتَغِيnabtaghīwe seekالْجَاهِلِينَl-jāhilīnathe ignorant
  56. 56إِنَّكَinnakaIndeed youلَا(can) notتَهْدِيtahdīguideمَنْmanwhomأَحْبَبْتَaḥbabtayou loveوَلَكِنَّwalākinnabutاللَّهَl-lahaAllahيَهْدِيyahdīguidesمَنْmanwhomيَشَاءُyashāuHe willsوَهُوَwahuwaAnd Heأَعْلَمُaʿlamu(is) most knowingبِالْمُهْتَدِينَbil-muh'tadīna(of) the guided ones
  57. 57وَقَالُواwaqālūAnd they sayإِنْinIfنَتَّبِعِnattabiʿiwe followالْهُدَىl-hudāthe guidanceمَعَكَmaʿakawith youنُتَخَطَّفْnutakhaṭṭafwe would be sweptمِنْminfromأَرْضِنَاarḍināour landأَوَلَمْawalamHave notنُمَكِّنْnumakkinWe establishedلَهُمْlahumfor themحَرَمًاḥaramana sanctuaryءَامِنًاāminansecureيُجْبَىyuj'bāare broughtإِلَيْهِilayhito itثَمَرَاتُthamarātufruitsكُلِّkulli(of) allشَيْءٍshayinthingsرِزْقًاriz'qana provisionمِنْminfromلَدُنَّاladunnāUsوَلَكِنَّwalākinnaButأَكْثَرَهُمْaktharahummost of themلَا(do) notيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknow
  58. 58وَكَمْwakamAnd how manyأَهْلَكْنَاahlaknāWe have destroyedمِنْminofقَرْيَةٍqaryatina townبَطِرَتْbaṭiratwhich exultedمَعِيشَتَهَاmaʿīshatahā(in) its means of livelihoodفَتِلْكَfatil'kaAnd theseمَسَاكِنُهُمْmasākinuhum(are) their dwellingsلَمْlamnotتُسْكَنْtus'kanhave been inhabitedمِنْminafter themبَعْدِهِمْbaʿdihimafter themإِلَّاillāexceptقَلِيلًاqalīlana littleوَكُنَّاwakunnāAnd indeed, [We]نَحْنُnaḥnuWeالْوَارِثِينَl-wārithīna(are) the inheritors
  59. 59وَمَاwamāAnd notكَانَkānawasرَبُّكَrabbukayour Lordمُهْلِكَmuh'lika(the) one to destroyالْقُرَىl-qurāthe townsحَتَّىḥattāuntilيَبْعَثَyabʿathaHe (had) sentفِيinأُمِّهَاummihātheir mother (town)رَسُولًاrasūlana Messengerيَتْلُواyatlūrecitingعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimto themءَايَاتِنَاāyātināOur VersesوَمَاwamāAnd notكُنَّاkunnāWe would beمُهْلِكِيmuh'likī(the) one to destroyالْقُرَىl-qurāthe townsإِلَّاillāexceptوَأَهْلُهَاwa-ahluhāwhile their peopleظَالِمُونَẓālimūna(were) wrongdoers
  60. 60وَمَاwamāAnd whateverأُوتِيتُمْūtītumyou have been givenمِنْminfromشَيْءٍshayinthingsفَمَتَاعُfamatāʿu(is) an enjoymentالْحَيَوةِl-ḥayati(of the) lifeالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the worldوَزِينَتُهَاwazīnatuhāand its adornmentوَمَاwamāAnd whatعِنْدَʿinda(is) withاللَّهِl-lahiAllahخَيْرٌkhayrun(is) betterوَأَبْقَىwa-abqāand more lastingأَفَلَاafalāSo (will) notتَعْقِلُونَtaʿqilūnayou use intellect
  61. 61أَفَمَنْafamanThen is (he) whomوَعَدْنَاهُwaʿadnāhuWe have promised himوَعْدًاwaʿdana promiseحَسَنًاḥasanangoodفَهُوَfahuwaand heلَاقِيهِlāqīhi(will) meet itكَمَنْkamanlike (the one) whomمَتَّعْنَاهُmattaʿnāhuWe provided himمَتَاعَmatāʿaenjoymentالْحَيَوةِl-ḥayati(of the) lifeالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the worldثُمَّthummathenهُوَhuwaheيَوْمَyawma(on the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrectionمِنَmina(will be) amongالْمُحْضَرِينَl-muḥ'ḍarīnathose presented
  62. 62وَيَوْمَwayawmaAnd (the) DayيُنَادِيهِمْyunādīhimHe will call themفَيَقُولُfayaqūluand sayأَيْنَaynaWhereشُرَكَاءِيَshurakāiya(are) My partnersالَّذِينَalladhīnawhomكُنْتُمْkuntumyou used (to)تَزْعُمُونَtazʿumūnaclaim
  63. 63قَالَqāla(Will) sayالَّذِينَalladhīnathoseحَقَّḥaqqa(has) come trueعَلَيْهِمُʿalayhimuagainst whomالْقَوْلُl-qawluthe WordرَبَّنَاrabbanāOur LordهَؤُلَاءِhāulāiTheseالَّذِينَalladhīna(are) those whomأَغْوَيْنَاaghwaynāwe led astrayأَغْوَيْنَاهُمْaghwaynāhumWe led them astrayكَمَاkamāasغَوَيْنَاghawaynāwe were astrayتَبَرَّأْنَاtabarranāWe declare our innocenceإِلَيْكَilaykabefore YouمَاNotكَانُواkānūthey used (to)إِيَّانَاiyyānāworship usيَعْبُدُونَyaʿbudūnaworship us
  64. 64وَقِيلَwaqīlaAnd it will be saidادْعُواid'ʿūCallشُرَكَاءَكُمْshurakāakumyour partnersفَدَعَوْهُمْfadaʿawhumAnd they will call themفَلَمْfalambut notيَسْتَجِيبُواyastajībūthey will respondلَهُمْlahumto themوَرَأَوُاwara-awūand they will seeالْعَذَابَl-ʿadhābathe punishmentلَوْlawIf onlyأَنَّهُمْannahum[that] theyكَانُواkānūhad beenيَهْتَدُونَyahtadūnaguided!
  65. 65وَيَوْمَwayawmaAnd (the) DayيُنَادِيهِمْyunādīhimHe will call themفَيَقُولُfayaqūluand sayمَاذَاmādhāWhatأَجَبْتُمُajabtumudid you answerالْمُرْسَلِينَl-mur'salīnathe Messengers
  66. 66فَعَمِيَتْfaʿamiyatBut (will) be obscureعَلَيْهِمُʿalayhimuto themالْأَنْبَاءُl-anbāuthe informationيَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhinthat dayفَهُمْfahumso theyلَاwill not ask one anotherيَتَسَاءَلُونَyatasāalūnawill not ask one another
  67. 67فَأَمَّاfa-ammāBut as forمَنْman(him) whoتَابَtābarepentedوَءَامَنَwaāmanaand believedوَعَمِلَwaʿamilaand didصَالِحًاṣāliḥanrighteousnessفَعَسَىfaʿasāthen perhapsأَنْan[that]يَكُونَyakūnahe will beمِنَminaofالْمُفْلِحِينَl-muf'liḥīnathe successful ones
  68. 68وَرَبُّكَwarabbukaAnd your LordيَخْلُقُyakhluqucreatesمَاwhatيَشَاءُyashāuHe willsوَيَخْتَارُwayakhtāruand choosesمَاNotكَانَkānathey haveلَهُمُlahumufor themالْخِيَرَةُl-khiyaratuthe choiceسُبْحَانَsub'ḥānaGlory beاللَّهِl-lahi(to) Allahوَتَعَالَىwataʿālāand High is Heعَمَّاʿammāabove whatيُشْرِكُونَyush'rikūnathey associate (with Him)
  69. 69وَرَبُّكَwarabbukaAnd your Lordيَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknowsمَاwhatتُكِنُّtukinnuconcealsصُدُورُهُمْṣudūruhumtheir breastsوَمَاwamāand whatيُعْلِنُونَyuʿ'linūnathey declare
  70. 70وَهُوَwahuwaAnd Heاللَّهُl-lahu(is) Allahلَا(there is) noإِلَهَilāhagodإِلَّاillābutهُوَhuwaHeلَهُlahuTo Himالْحَمْدُl-ḥamdu(are due) all praisesفِيinالْأُولَىl-ūlāthe firstوَالْءَاخِرَةِwal-ākhiratiand the lastوَلَهُwalahuAnd for Himالْحُكْمُl-ḥuk'mu(is) the Decisionوَإِلَيْهِwa-ilayhiand to Himتُرْجَعُونَtur'jaʿūnayou will be returned
  71. 71قُلْqulSayأَرَءَيْتُمْara-aytumHave you seenإِنْinifجَعَلَjaʿalaAllah madeاللَّهُl-lahuAllah madeعَلَيْكُمُʿalaykumufor youاللَّيْلَal-laylathe nightسَرْمَدًاsarmadancontinuousإِلَىilātillيَوْمِyawmi(the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrectionمَنْmanwhoإِلَهٌilāhun(is the) godغَيْرُghayrubesidesاللَّهِl-lahiAllahيَأْتِيكُمْyatīkumwho could bring youبِضِيَاءٍbiḍiyāinlightأَفَلَاafalāThen will notتَسْمَعُونَtasmaʿūnayou hear
  72. 72قُلْqulSayأَرَءَيْتُمْara-aytumHave you seenإِنْinifجَعَلَjaʿalaAllah madeاللَّهُl-lahuAllah madeعَلَيْكُمُʿalaykumufor youالنَّهَارَl-nahārathe dayسَرْمَدًاsarmadancontinuousإِلَىilātillيَوْمِyawmi(the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrectionمَنْmanwhoإِلَهٌilāhun(is the) godغَيْرُghayrubesidesاللَّهِl-lahiAllahيَأْتِيكُمْyatīkumwho could bring youبِلَيْلٍbilaylinnightتَسْكُنُونَtaskunūna(for) you (to) restفِيهِfīhiin itأَفَلَاafalāThen will notتُبْصِرُونَtub'ṣirūnayou see
  73. 73وَمِنْwaminAnd fromرَحْمَتِهِraḥmatihiHis MercyجَعَلَjaʿalaHe madeلَكُمُlakumufor youاللَّيْلَal-laylathe nightوَالنَّهَارَwal-nahāraand the dayلِتَسْكُنُواlitaskunūthat you may restفِيهِfīhithereinوَلِتَبْتَغُواwalitabtaghūand that you may seekمِنْminfromفَضْلِهِfaḍlihiHis Bountyوَلَعَلَّكُمْwalaʿallakumand so that you mayتَشْكُرُونَtashkurūnabe grateful
  74. 74وَيَوْمَwayawmaAnd (the) DayيُنَادِيهِمْyunādīhimHe will call themفَيَقُولُfayaqūluand sayأَيْنَaynaWhereشُرَكَاءِيَshurakāiya(are) My partnersالَّذِينَalladhīnawhomكُنْتُمْkuntumyou used (to)تَزْعُمُونَtazʿumūnaclaim
  75. 75وَنَزَعْنَاwanazaʿnāAnd We will draw forthمِنْminfromكُلِّkullieveryأُمَّةٍummatinnationشَهِيدًاshahīdana witnessفَقُلْنَاfaqul'nāand We will sayهَاتُواhātūBringبُرْهَانَكُمْbur'hānakumyour proofفَعَلِمُواfaʿalimūThen they will knowأَنَّannathatالْحَقَّl-ḥaqathe truthلِلَّهِlillahi(is) for Allahوَضَلَّwaḍallaand (will be) lostعَنْهُمْʿanhumfrom themمَاwhatكَانُواkānūthey used (to)يَفْتَرُونَyaftarūnainvent
  76. 76إِنَّinnaIndeedقَارُونَqārūnaQarunكَانَkānawasمِنْminfromقَوْمِqawmi(the) peopleمُوسَىmūsā(of) Musaفَبَغَىfabaghābut he oppressedعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhim[on] themوَءَاتَيْنَاهُwaātaynāhuAnd We gave himمِنَminaofالْكُنُوزِl-kunūzithe treasuresمَاwhichإِنَّinnaindeedمَفَاتِحَهُmafātiḥahu(the) keys of itلَتَنُوأُlatanūuwould burdenبِالْعُصْبَةِbil-ʿuṣ'batia company (of men)أُولِيulīpossessors of great strengthالْقُوَّةِl-quwatipossessors of great strengthإِذْidhWhenقَالَqālasaidلَهُlahuto himقَوْمُهُqawmuhuhis peopleلَا(Do) notتَفْرَحْtafraḥexultإِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahلَا(does) notيُحِبُّyuḥibbuloveالْفَرِحِينَl-fariḥīnathe exultant
  77. 77وَابْتَغِwa-ib'taghiBut seekفِيمَاfīmāthrough whatءَاتَاكَātākaAllah has given youاللَّهُl-lahuAllah has given youالدَّارَl-dārathe homeالْءَاخِرَةَl-ākhirata(of) the Hereafterوَلَاwalāand (do) notتَنْسَtansaforgetنَصِيبَكَnaṣībakayour shareمِنَminaofالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yāthe worldوَأَحْسِنْwa-aḥsinAnd do goodكَمَاkamāasأَحْسَنَaḥsanaAllah has been goodاللَّهُl-lahuAllah has been goodإِلَيْكَilaykato youوَلَاwalāAnd (do) notتَبْغِtabghiseekالْفَسَادَl-fasādacorruptionفِيinالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthإِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahلَا(does) notيُحِبُّyuḥibbuloveالْمُفْسِدِينَl-muf'sidīnathe corrupters
  78. 78قَالَqālaHe saidإِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyأُوتِيتُهُūtītuhuI have been given itعَلَىʿalāon (account)عِلْمٍʿil'min(of) knowledgeعِنْدِيʿindīI haveأَوَلَمْawalamDid notيَعْلَمْyaʿlamhe knowأَنَّannathatاللَّهَl-lahaAllahقَدْqadindeedأَهْلَكَahlakadestroyedمِنْminbefore himقَبْلِهِqablihibefore himمِنَminaofالْقُرُونِl-qurūnithe generationsمَنْmanwhoهُوَhuwa[they]أَشَدُّashaddu(were) strongerمِنْهُmin'huthan himقُوَّةًquwwatan(in) strengthوَأَكْثَرُwa-aktharuand greaterجَمْعًاjamʿan(in) accumulationوَلَاwalāAnd notيُسْءَلُyus'aluwill be questionedعَنْʿanaboutذُنُوبِهِمُdhunūbihimutheir sinsالْمُجْرِمُونَl-muj'rimūnathe criminals
  79. 79فَخَرَجَfakharajaSo he went forthعَلَىʿalātoقَوْمِهِqawmihihis peopleفِيinزِينَتِهِzīnatihihis adornmentقَالَqālaSaidالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoيُرِيدُونَyurīdūnadesireالْحَيَوةَl-ḥayatathe lifeالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the worldيَالَيْتَyālaytaO! Would thatلَنَاlanāfor usمِثْلَmith'la(the) likeمَا(of) whatأُوتِيَūtiyahas been givenقَارُونُqārūnu(to) QarunإِنَّهُinnahuIndeed heلَذُوladhū(is the) ownerحَظٍّḥaẓẓin(of) fortuneعَظِيمٍʿaẓīmingreat
  80. 80وَقَالَwaqālaBut saidالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoأُوتُواūtūwere givenالْعِلْمَl-ʿil'mathe knowledgeوَيْلَكُمْwaylakumWoe to you!ثَوَابُthawābu(The) rewardاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahخَيْرٌkhayrun(is) betterلِمَنْlimanfor (he) whoءَامَنَāmanabelievesوَعَمِلَwaʿamilaand doesصَالِحًاṣāliḥanrighteous (deeds)وَلَاwalāAnd notيُلَقَّاهَاyulaqqāhāit is grantedإِلَّاillāexceptالصَّابِرُونَl-ṣābirūna(to) the patient ones
  81. 81فَخَسَفْنَاfakhasafnāThen We caused to swallow upبِهِbihihimوَبِدَارِهِwabidārihiand his homeالْأَرْضَl-arḍathe earthفَمَاfamāThen notكَانَkānawasلَهُlahufor himمِنْminanyفِئَةٍfi-atingroupيَنْصُرُونَهُyanṣurūnahu(to) help himمِنْminbesidesدُونِdūnibesidesاللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَمَاwamāand notكَانَkānawasمِنَmina(he) ofالْمُنْتَصِرِينَl-muntaṣirīnathose who (could) defend themselves
  82. 82وَأَصْبَحَwa-aṣbaḥaAnd beganالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoتَمَنَّوْاtamannaw(had) wishedمَكَانَهُmakānahuhis positionبِالْأَمْسِbil-amsithe day beforeيَقُولُونَyaqūlūna(to) sayوَيْكَأَنَّwayka-annaAh! Thatاللَّهَl-lahaAllahيَبْسُطُyabsuṭuextendsالرِّزْقَl-riz'qathe provisionلِمَنْlimanfor whomيَشَاءُyashāuHe willsمِنْminofعِبَادِهِʿibādihiHis slavesوَيَقْدِرُwayaqdiruand restricts itلَوْلَاlawlāIf notأَنْanthatمَنَّmannaAllah had favoredاللَّهُl-lahuAllah had favoredعَلَيْنَاʿalaynā[to] usلَخَسَفَlakhasafaHe would have caused it to swallow usبِنَاbināHe would have caused it to swallow usوَيْكَأَنَّهُwayka-annahuAh! Thatلَاnotيُفْلِحُyuf'liḥuwill succeedالْكَافِرُونَl-kāfirūnathe disbelievers
  83. 83تِلْكَtil'kaThatالدَّارُl-dāruthe Homeالْءَاخِرَةُl-ākhiratu(of) the HereafterنَجْعَلُهَاnajʿaluhāWe assign itلِلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those whoلَا(do) notيُرِيدُونَyurīdūnadesireعُلُوًّاʿuluwwanexaltednessفِيinالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthوَلَاwalāand notفَسَادًاfasādancorruptionوَالْعَاقِبَةُwal-ʿāqibatuAnd the good endلِلْمُتَّقِينَlil'muttaqīna(is) for the righteous
  84. 84مَنْmanWhoeverجَاءَjāacomesبِالْحَسَنَةِbil-ḥasanatiwith a good (deed)فَلَهُfalahuthen for himخَيْرٌkhayrun(will be) betterمِنْهَاmin'hāthan itوَمَنْwamanand whoeverجَاءَjāacomesبِالسَّيِّئَةِbil-sayi-atiwith an evil (deed)فَلَاfalāthen notيُجْزَىyuj'zāwill be recompensedالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoعَمِلُواʿamilūdoالسَّيِّئَاتِl-sayiātithe evil (deeds)إِلَّاillāexceptمَاwhatكَانُواkānūthey used (to)يَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūnado
  85. 85إِنَّinnaIndeedالَّذِيalladhīHe Whoفَرَضَfaraḍaordainedعَلَيْكَʿalaykaupon youالْقُرْءَانَl-qur'ānathe Quranلَرَادُّكَlarādduka(will) surely take you backإِلَىilātoمَعَادٍmaʿādina place of returnقُلْqulSayرَبِّيrabbīMy Lordأَعْلَمُaʿlamu(is) most knowingمَنْman(of him) whoجَاءَjāacomesبِالْهُدَىbil-hudāwith the guidanceوَمَنْwamanand whoهُوَhuwaheفِي(is) inضَلَالٍḍalālinan errorمُبِينٍmubīninmanifest
  86. 86وَمَاwamāAnd notكُنْتَkuntayou wereتَرْجُواtarjūexpectingأَنْanthatيُلْقَىyul'qāwould be sent downإِلَيْكَilaykato youالْكِتَابُl-kitābuthe Bookإِلَّاillāexceptرَحْمَةًraḥmatan(as) a mercyمِنْminfromرَبِّكَrabbikayour LordفَلَاfalāSo (do) notتَكُونَنَّtakūnannabeظَهِيرًاẓahīranan assistantلِلْكَافِرِينَlil'kāfirīnato the disbelievers
  87. 87وَلَاwalāAnd (let) notيَصُدُّنَّكَyaṣuddunnakaavert youعَنْʿanfromءَايَاتِāyāti(the) Versesاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahبَعْدَbaʿdaafterإِذْidh[when]أُنْزِلَتْunzilatthey have been revealedإِلَيْكَilaykato youوَادْعُwa-ud'ʿuAnd invite (people)إِلَىilātoرَبِّكَrabbikayour LordوَلَاwalāAnd (do) notتَكُونَنَّtakūnannabeمِنَminaofالْمُشْرِكِينَl-mush'rikīnathe polytheists
  88. 88وَلَاwalāAnd (do) notتَدْعُtadʿuinvokeمَعَmaʿawithاللَّهِl-lahiAllahإِلَهًاilāhangodءَاخَرَākharaotherلَا(There is) noإِلَهَilāhagodإِلَّاillāexceptهُوَhuwaHimكُلُّkulluEveryشَيْءٍshayinthingهَالِكٌhālikun(will be) destroyedإِلَّاillāexceptوَجْهَهُwajhahuHis FaceلَهُlahuTo Himالْحُكْمُl-ḥuk'mu(is) the Decisionوَإِلَيْهِwa-ilayhiand to Himتُرْجَعُونَtur'jaʿūnayou will be returned
