بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Surah 18 — Al-Kahf

  1. 1الْحَمْدُal-ḥamduAll Praiseلِلَّهِlillahi(is) for Allahالَّذِيalladhīthe One Whoأَنْزَلَanzala(has) revealedعَلَىʿalātoعَبْدِهِʿabdihiHis slaveالْكِتَابَl-kitābathe Bookوَلَمْwalamand notيَجْعَلْyajʿal(has) madeلَهُlahuin itعِوَجَاʿiwajāany crookedness
  2. 2قَيِّمًاqayyimanStraightلِيُنْذِرَliyundhirato warnبَأْسًاbasan(of) a punishmentشَدِيدًاshadīdansevereمِنْminfromلَدُنْهُladun'hunear Himوَيُبَشِّرَwayubashiraand give glad tidingsالْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīna(to) the believersالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoيَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūnadoالصَّالِحَاتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deedsأَنَّannathatلَهُمْlahumfor themأَجْرًاajran(is) a good rewardحَسَنًاḥasanan(is) a good reward
  3. 3مَاكِثِينَmākithīna(They will) abideفِيهِfīhiin itأَبَدًاabadanforever
  4. 4وَيُنْذِرَwayundhiraAnd to warnالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoقَالُواqālūsayاتَّخَذَittakhadhaAllah has takenاللَّهُl-lahuAllah has takenوَلَدًاwaladana son
  5. 5مَاNotلَهُمْlahumthey haveبِهِbihiabout itمِنْminanyعِلْمٍʿil'minknowledgeوَلَاwalāand notلِءَابَائِهِمْliābāihimtheir forefathersكَبُرَتْkaburatMighty (is)كَلِمَةًkalimatanthe wordتَخْرُجُtakhruju(that) comes outمِنْminofأَفْوَاهِهِمْafwāhihimtheir mouthsإِنْinNotيَقُولُونَyaqūlūnathey sayإِلَّاillāexceptكَذِبًاkadhibana lie
  6. 6فَلَعَلَّكَfalaʿallakaThen perhaps you would (be)بَاخِعٌbākhiʿunthe one who killsنَفْسَكَnafsakayourselfعَلَىʿalāoverءَاثَارِهِمْāthārihimtheir footstepsإِنْinifلَمْlamnotيُؤْمِنُواyu'minūthey believeبِهَذَاbihādhāin thisالْحَدِيثِl-ḥadīthi[the] narrationأَسَفًاasafan(in) grief
  7. 7إِنَّاinnāIndeed WeجَعَلْنَاjaʿalnāWe have madeمَاwhatعَلَىʿalā(is) onالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthزِينَةًzīnatanadornmentلَهَاlahāfor itلِنَبْلُوَهُمْlinabluwahumthat We may test [them]أَيُّهُمْayyuhumwhich of themأَحْسَنُaḥsanu(is) bestعَمَلًاʿamalan(in) deed
  8. 8وَإِنَّاwa-innāAnd indeed Weلَجَاعِلُونَlajāʿilūna(will) surely makeمَاwhatعَلَيْهَاʿalayhā(is) on itصَعِيدًاṣaʿīdansoilجُرُزًاjuruzanbarren
  9. 9أَمْamOrحَسِبْتَḥasib'tayou thinkأَنَّannathatأَصْحَابَaṣḥāba(the) companionsالْكَهْفِl-kahfi(of) the caveوَالرَّقِيمِwal-raqīmiand the inscriptionكَانُواkānūwereمِنْminamongءَايَاتِنَاāyātināOur Signsعَجَبًاʿajabana wonder
  10. 10إِذْidhWhenأَوَىawāretreatedالْفِتْيَةُl-fit'yatuthe youthsإِلَىilātoالْكَهْفِl-kahfithe caveفَقَالُواfaqālūand they saidرَبَّنَاrabbanāOur Lord!ءَاتِنَاātināGrant usمِنْminfromلَدُنْكَladunkaYourselfرَحْمَةًraḥmatanMercyوَهَيِّئْwahayyiand facilitateلَنَاlanāfor usمِنْmin[from]أَمْرِنَاamrināour affairرَشَدًاrashadan(in the) right way
  11. 11فَضَرَبْنَاfaḍarabnāSo We castعَلَىʿalāoverءَاذَانِهِمْādhānihimtheir earsفِيinالْكَهْفِl-kahfithe caveسِنِينَsinīnayearsعَدَدًاʿadadana number
  12. 12ثُمَّthummaThenبَعَثْنَاهُمْbaʿathnāhumWe raised them upلِنَعْلَمَlinaʿlamathat We make evidentأَيُّayyuwhichالْحِزْبَيْنِl-ḥiz'bayni(of) the two partiesأَحْصَىaḥṣābest calculatedلِمَاlimāfor whatلَبِثُواlabithū(they had) remainedأَمَدًاamadan(in) time
  13. 13نَحْنُnaḥnuWeنَقُصُّnaquṣṣunarrateعَلَيْكَʿalaykato youنَبَأَهُمْnaba-ahumtheir storyبِالْحَقِّbil-ḥaqiin truthإِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed they (were)فِتْيَةٌfit'yatunyouthsءَامَنُواāmanūwho believedبِرَبِّهِمْbirabbihimin their Lordوَزِدْنَاهُمْwazid'nāhumand We increased themهُدًىhudan(in) guidance
  14. 14وَرَبَطْنَاwarabaṭnāAnd We made firmعَلَىʿalā[on]قُلُوبِهِمْqulūbihimtheir heartsإِذْidhwhenقَامُواqāmūthey stood upفَقَالُواfaqālūand saidرَبُّنَاrabbunāOur Lordرَبُّrabbu(is) the Lordالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavensوَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthلَنْlanNeverنَدْعُوَاnadʿuwāwe will invokeمِنْminbesides Himدُونِهِdūnihibesides Himإِلَهًاilāhanany godلَقَدْlaqadCertainlyقُلْنَاqul'nāwe would have saidإِذًاidhanthenشَطَطًاshaṭaṭanan enormity
  15. 15هَؤُلَاءِhāulāiTheseقَوْمُنَاqawmunāour peopleاتَّخَذُواittakhadhūhave takenمِنْminbesides Himدُونِهِdūnihibesides HimءَالِهَةًālihatangodsلَوْلَاlawlāWhy notيَأْتُونَyatūnathey comeعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimto themبِسُلْطَانٍbisul'ṭāninwith an authorityبَيِّنٍbayyininclearفَمَنْfamanAnd whoأَظْلَمُaẓlamu(is) more wrongمِمَّنِmimmanithan (one) whoافْتَرَىif'tarāinventsعَلَىʿalāagainstاللَّهِl-lahiAllahكَذِبًاkadhibana lie
  16. 16وَإِذِwa-idhiAnd whenاعْتَزَلْتُمُوهُمْiʿ'tazaltumūhumyou withdraw from themوَمَاwamāand whatيَعْبُدُونَyaʿbudūnathey worshipإِلَّاillāexceptاللَّهَl-lahaAllahفَأْوُواfawūthen retreatإِلَىilātoالْكَهْفِl-kahfithe caveيَنْشُرْyanshurWill spreadلَكُمْlakumfor youرَبُّكُمْrabbukumyour LordمِنْminofرَحْمَتِهِraḥmatihiHis Mercyوَيُهَيِّئْwayuhayyiand will facilitateلَكُمْlakumfor youمِنْmin[from]أَمْرِكُمْamrikumyour affairمِرفَقًاmir'faqan(in) ease
  17. 17وَتَرَىwatarāAnd you (might) have seenالشَّمْسَl-shamsathe sunإِذَاidhāwhenطَلَعَتْṭalaʿatit roseتَزَاوَرُtazāwaruinclining awayعَنْʿanfromكَهْفِهِمْkahfihimtheir caveذَاتَdhātatoالْيَمِينِl-yamīnithe rightوَإِذَاwa-idhāand whenغَرَبَتْgharabatit setتَقْرِضُهُمْtaqriḍuhumpassing away from themذَاتَdhātatoالشِّمَالِl-shimālithe leftوَهُمْwahumwhile theyفِي(lay) inفَجْوَةٍfajwatinthe open spaceمِنْهُmin'huthereofذَلِكَdhālikaThatمِنْmin(was) fromءَايَاتِāyāti(the) Signsاللَّهِl-lahi(of) AllahمَنْmanWhoeverيَهْدِyahdiAllah guidesاللَّهُl-lahuAllah guidesفَهُوَfahuwaand heالْمُهْتَدِl-muh'tadi(is) the guided oneوَمَنْwamanand whoeverيُضْلِلْyuḍ'lilHe lets go astrayفَلَنْfalanthen neverتَجِدَtajidayou will findلَهُlahufor himوَلِيًّاwaliyyana protectorمُرْشِدًاmur'shidana guide
  18. 18وَتَحْسَبُهُمْwataḥsabuhumAnd you (would) think themأَيْقَاظًاayqāẓanawakeوَهُمْwahumwhile theyرُقُودٌruqūdun(were) asleepوَنُقَلِّبُهُمْwanuqallibuhumAnd We turned themذَاتَdhātatoالْيَمِينِl-yamīnithe rightوَذَاتَwadhātaand toالشِّمَالِl-shimālithe leftوَكَلْبُهُمْwakalbuhumwhile their dogبَاسِطٌbāsiṭunstretchedذِرَاعَيْهِdhirāʿayhihis two forelegsبِالْوَصِيدِbil-waṣīdiat the entranceلَوِlawiIfاطَّلَعْتَiṭṭalaʿtayou had lookedعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimat themلَوَلَّيْتَlawallaytayou (would) have surely turned backمِنْهُمْmin'humfrom themفِرَارًاfirāran(in) flightوَلَمُلِئْتَwalamuli'taand surely you would have been filledمِنْهُمْmin'humby themرُعْبًاruʿ'ban(with) terror
  19. 19وَكَذَلِكَwakadhālikaAnd similarlyبَعَثْنَاهُمْbaʿathnāhumWe raised themلِيَتَسَاءَلُواliyatasāalūthat they might questionبَيْنَهُمْbaynahumamong themقَالَqālaSaidقَائِلٌqāiluna speakerمِنْهُمْmin'humamong themكَمْkamHow longلَبِثْتُمْlabith'tumhave you remainedقَالُواqālūThey saidلَبِثْنَاlabith'nāWe have remainedيَوْمًاyawmana dayأَوْaworبَعْضَbaʿḍaa partيَوْمٍyawmin(of) a dayقَالُواqālūThey saidرَبُّكُمْrabbukumYour Lordأَعْلَمُaʿlamuknows bestبِمَاbimāhow longلَبِثْتُمْlabith'tumyou have remainedفَابْعَثُواfa-ib'ʿathūSo sendأَحَدَكُمْaḥadakumone of youبِوَرِقِكُمْbiwariqikum(with this) silver coin of yoursهَذِهِhādhihiwith this (silver coin of yours)إِلَىilātoالْمَدِينَةِl-madīnatithe cityفَلْيَنْظُرْfalyanẓurand let him seeأَيُّهَاayyuhāwhich isأَزْكَىazkāthe purestطَعَامًاṭaʿāmanfoodفَلْيَأْتِكُمْfalyatikumand let him bring to youبِرِزْقٍbiriz'qinprovisionمِنْهُmin'hufrom itوَلْيَتَلَطَّفْwalyatalaṭṭafand let him be cautiousوَلَاwalāAnd let notيُشْعِرَنَّyush'ʿirannabe awareبِكُمْbikumabout youأَحَدًاaḥadananyone
  20. 20إِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed [they]إِنْinifيَظْهَرُواyaẓharūthey come to knowعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumabout youيَرْجُمُوكُمْyarjumūkumthey will stone youأَوْaworيُعِيدُوكُمْyuʿīdūkumreturn youفِيtoمِلَّتِهِمْmillatihimtheir religionوَلَنْwalanAnd neverتُفْلِحُواtuf'liḥūwill you succeedإِذًاidhanthenأَبَدًاabadanever
  21. 21وَكَذَلِكَwakadhālikaAnd similarlyأَعْثَرْنَاaʿtharnāWe made knownعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimabout themلِيَعْلَمُواliyaʿlamūthat they might knowأَنَّannathatوَعْدَwaʿda(the) Promiseاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahحَقٌّḥaqqun(is) trueوَأَنَّwa-annaand thatالسَّاعَةَl-sāʿata(about) the Hourلَا(there is) noرَيْبَraybadoubtفِيهَاfīhāin itإِذْidhWhenيَتَنَازَعُونَyatanāzaʿūnathey disputedبَيْنَهُمْbaynahumamong themselvesأَمْرَهُمْamrahumabout their affairفَقَالُواfaqālūand they saidابْنُواib'nūConstructعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimover themبُنْيَانًاbun'yānana structureرَبُّهُمْrabbuhumTheir Lordأَعْلَمُaʿlamuknows bestبِهِمْbihimabout themقَالَqālaSaidالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoغَلَبُواghalabūprevailedعَلَىʿalāinأَمْرِهِمْamrihimtheir matterلَنَتَّخِذَنَّlanattakhidhannaSurely we will takeعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimover themمَسْجِدًاmasjidana place of worship
  22. 22سَيَقُولُونَsayaqūlūnaThey sayثَلَاثَةٌthalāthatun(they were) threeرَابِعُهُمْrābiʿuhumthe forth of themكَلْبُهُمْkalbuhumtheir dogوَيَقُولُونَwayaqūlūnaand they sayخَمْسَةٌkhamsatun(they were) fiveسَادِسُهُمْsādisuhumthe sixth of themكَلْبُهُمْkalbuhumtheir dogرَجْمًاrajmanguessingبِالْغَيْبِbil-ghaybiabout the unseenوَيَقُولُونَwayaqūlūnaand they sayسَبْعَةٌsabʿatun(they were) sevenوَثَامِنُهُمْwathāminuhumand the eight of themكَلْبُهُمْkalbuhumtheir dogقُلْqulSayرَبِّيrabbīMy Lordأَعْلَمُaʿlamuknows bestبِعِدَّتِهِمْbiʿiddatihimtheir numberمَاNoneيَعْلَمُهُمْyaʿlamuhumknows themإِلَّاillāexceptقَلِيلٌqalīluna fewفَلَاfalāSo (do) notتُمَارِtumāriargueفِيهِمْfīhimabout themإِلَّاillāexceptمِرَاءًmirāan(with) an argumentظَاهِرًاẓāhiranobviousوَلَاwalāand (do) notتَسْتَفْتِtastaftiinquireفِيهِمْfīhimabout themمِنْهُمْmin'humamong themأَحَدًاaḥadan(from) anyone
  23. 23وَلَاwalāAnd (do) notتَقُولَنَّtaqūlannasayلِشَيْءٍlishāy'inof anythingإِنِّيinnīIndeed Iفَاعِلٌfāʿilunwill doذَلِكَdhālikathatغَدًاghadantomorrow
  24. 24إِلَّاillāExceptأَنْanIfيَشَاءَyashāaAllah willsاللَّهُl-lahuAllah willsوَاذْكُرْwa-udh'kurAnd rememberرَبَّكَrabbakayour Lordإِذَاidhāwhenنَسِيتَnasītayou forgetوَقُلْwaquland sayعَسَىʿasāPerhapsأَنْan[that]يَهْدِيَنِyahdiyaniwill guide meرَبِّيrabbīmy Lordلِأَقْرَبَli-aqrabato a nearer (way)مِنْminthanهَذَاhādhāthisرَشَدًاrashadanright way
  25. 25وَلَبِثُواwalabithūAnd they remainedفِيinكَهْفِهِمْkahfihimtheir caveثَلَاثَthalātha(for) threeمِائَةٍmi-atinhundredسِنِينَsinīnayearsوَازْدَادُواwa-iz'dādūand addتِسْعًاtis'ʿannine
  26. 26قُلِquliSayاللَّهُl-lahuAllahأَعْلَمُaʿlamuknows bestبِمَاbimāabout what (period)لَبِثُواlabithūthey remainedلَهُlahuFor Himغَيْبُghaybu(is the) unseenالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavensوَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthأَبْصِرْabṣirHow clearly He seesبِهِbihi[of it]وَأَسْمِعْwa-asmiʿAnd how clearly He hearsمَاNotلَهُمْlahumfor themمِنْminbesides Himدُونِهِdūnihibesides Himمِنْminanyوَلِيٍّwaliyyinprotectorوَلَاwalāand notيُشْرِكُyush'rikuHe sharesفِي[in]حُكْمِهِḥuk'mihiHis Commandsأَحَدًاaḥadan(with) anyone
  27. 27وَاتْلُwa-ut'luAnd reciteمَاwhatأُوحِيَūḥiyahas been revealedإِلَيْكَilaykato youمِنْminofكِتَابِkitābithe Bookرَبِّكَrabbika(of) your LordلَاNoneمُبَدِّلَmubaddilacan changeلِكَلِمَاتِهِlikalimātihiHis Wordsوَلَنْwalanand neverتَجِدَtajidayou will findمِنْminbesides Himدُونِهِdūnihibesides Himمُلْتَحَدًاmul'taḥadana refuge
  28. 28وَاصْبِرْwa-iṣ'birAnd be patientنَفْسَكَnafsakayourselfمَعَmaʿawithالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoيَدْعُونَyadʿūnacallرَبَّهُمْrabbahumtheir Lordبِالْغَدَوةِbil-ghadatiin the morningوَالْعَشِيِّwal-ʿashiyiand the eveningيُرِيدُونَyurīdūnadesiringوَجْهَهُwajhahuHis FaceوَلَاwalāAnd (let) notتَعْدُtaʿdupass beyondعَيْنَاكَʿaynākayour eyesعَنْهُمْʿanhumover themتُرِيدُturīdudesiringزِينَةَzīnataadornmentالْحَيَوةِl-ḥayati(of) the lifeالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the worldوَلَاwalāand (do) notتُطِعْtuṭiʿobeyمَنْmanwhomأَغْفَلْنَاaghfalnāWe Have Made Heedlessقَلْبَهُqalbahuhis heartعَنْʿanofذِكْرِنَاdhik'rināOur rememberanceوَاتَّبَعَwa-ittabaʿaand followsهَوَاهُhawāhuhis desiresوَكَانَwakānaand isأَمْرُهُamruhuhis affairفُرُطًاfuruṭan(in) excess
  29. 29وَقُلِwaquliAnd sayالْحَقُّl-ḥaquThe truthمِنْmin(is) fromرَبِّكُمْrabbikumyour Lordفَمَنْfamanso whoeverشَاءَshāawillsفَلْيُؤْمِنْfalyu'minlet him believeوَمَنْwamanand whoeverشَاءَshāawillsفَلْيَكْفُرْfalyakfurlet him disbelieveإِنَّاinnāIndeed Weأَعْتَدْنَاaʿtadnāhave preparedلِلظَّالِمِينَlilẓẓālimīnafor the wrongdoersنَارًاnārana Fireأَحَاطَaḥāṭawill surroundبِهِمْbihimthemسُرَادِقُهَاsurādiquhāits wallsوَإِنْwa-inAnd ifيَسْتَغِيثُواyastaghīthūthey call for reliefيُغَاثُواyughāthūthey will be relievedبِمَاءٍbimāinwith waterكَالْمُهْلِkal-muh'lilike molten brassيَشْوِيyashwī(which) scaldsالْوُجُوهَl-wujūhathe facesبِئْسَbi'saWretchedالشَّرَابُl-sharābu(is) the drinkوَسَاءَتْwasāatand evilمُرْتَفَقًاmur'tafaqan(is) the resting place
  30. 30إِنَّinnaIndeedالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelievedوَعَمِلُواwaʿamilūand didالصَّالِحَاتِl-ṣāliḥātithe good deedsإِنَّاinnāindeed, Weلَاwill not let go wasteنُضِيعُnuḍīʿuwill not let go wasteأَجْرَajra(the) rewardمَنْman(of one) whoأَحْسَنَaḥsanadoes goodعَمَلًاʿamalandeeds
  31. 31أُولَئِكَulāikaThoseلَهُمْlahumfor themجَنَّاتُjannātu(are) Gardensعَدْنٍʿadninof Edenتَجْرِيtajrīflowsمِنْminfromتَحْتِهِمُtaḥtihimuunderneath themالْأَنْهَارُl-anhāruthe riversيُحَلَّوْنَyuḥallawnaThey will be adornedفِيهَاfīhāthereinمِنْmin[of] (with)أَسَاوِرَasāwirabraceletsمِنْminofذَهَبٍdhahabingoldوَيَلْبَسُونَwayalbasūnaand will wearثِيَابًاthiyābangarmentsخُضْرًاkhuḍ'rangreenمِنْminofسُنْدُسٍsundusinfine silkوَإِسْتَبْرَقٍwa-is'tabraqinand heavy brocadeمُتَّكِئِينَmuttakiīnarecliningفِيهَاfīhāthereinعَلَىʿalāonالْأَرَائِكِl-arāikiadorned couchesنِعْمَniʿ'maExcellentالثَّوَابُl-thawābu(is) the rewardوَحَسُنَتْwaḥasunatand goodمُرْتَفَقًاmur'tafaqan(is) the resting place
  32. 32وَاضْرِبْwa-iḍ'ribAnd set forthلَهُمْlahumto themمَثَلًاmathalanthe exampleرَجُلَيْنِrajulayniof two men:جَعَلْنَاjaʿalnāWe providedلِأَحَدِهِمَاli-aḥadihimāfor one of themجَنَّتَيْنِjannataynitwo gardensمِنْminofأَعْنَابٍaʿnābingrapesوَحَفَفْنَاهُمَاwaḥafafnāhumāand We bordered themبِنَخْلٍbinakhlinwith date-palmsوَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāand We placedبَيْنَهُمَاbaynahumābetween both of themزَرْعًاzarʿancrops
  33. 33كِلْتَاkil'tāEachالْجَنَّتَيْنِl-janatayni(of) the two gardensءَاتَتْātatbrought forthأُكُلَهَاukulahāits produceوَلَمْwalamand notتَظْلِمْtaẓlimdid wrongمِنْهُmin'huof itشَيْئًاshayananythingوَفَجَّرْنَاwafajjarnāAnd We caused to gush forthخِلَالَهُمَاkhilālahumāwithin themنَهَرًاnaharana river
  34. 34وَكَانَwakānaAnd wasلَهُlahufor himثَمَرٌthamarunfruitفَقَالَfaqālaso he saidلِصَاحِبِهِliṣāḥibihito his companionوَهُوَwahuwawhile heيُحَاوِرُهُyuḥāwiruhu(was) talking with himأَنَاanāI amأَكْثَرُaktharugreaterمِنْكَminkathan youمَالًاmālan(in) wealthوَأَعَزُّwa-aʿazzuand strongerنَفَرًاnafaran(in) men
  35. 35وَدَخَلَwadakhalaAnd he enteredجَنَّتَهُjannatahuhis gardenوَهُوَwahuwawhile heظَالِمٌẓālimun(was) unjustلِنَفْسِهِlinafsihito himselfقَالَqālaHe saidمَاNotأَظُنُّaẓunnuI thinkأَنْanthatتَبِيدَtabīdawill perishهَذِهِhādhihithisأَبَدًاabadanever
  36. 36وَمَاwamāAnd notأَظُنُّaẓunnuI thinkالسَّاعَةَl-sāʿatathe Hourقَائِمَةًqāimatanwill occurوَلَئِنْwala-inAnd ifرُدِدْتُrudidttuI am brought backإِلَىilātoرَبِّيrabbīmy Lordلَأَجِدَنَّla-ajidannaI will surely findخَيْرًاkhayranbetterمِنْهَاmin'hāthan thisمُنْقَلَبًاmunqalaban(as) a return
  37. 37قَالَqālaSaidلَهُlahuto himصَاحِبُهُṣāḥibuhuhis companionوَهُوَwahuwawhile heيُحَاوِرُهُyuḥāwiruhuwas talking to himأَكَفَرْتَakafartaDo you disbelieveبِالَّذِيbi-alladhīin One Whoخَلَقَكَkhalaqakacreated youمِنْminfromتُرَابٍturābindustثُمَّthummathenمِنْminfromنُطْفَةٍnuṭ'fatina minute quantity of semenثُمَّthummathenسَوَّاكَsawwākafashioned youرَجُلًاrajulan(into) a man
  38. 38لَكِنَّاlākinnāBut as for meهُوَhuwaHeاللَّهُl-lahu(is) Allahرَبِّيrabbīmy Lordوَلَاwalāand notأُشْرِكُush'rikuI associateبِرَبِّيbirabbīwith my Lordأَحَدًاaḥadananyone
  39. 39وَلَوْلَاwalawlāAnd why (did you) notإِذْidhwhenدَخَلْتَdakhaltayou enteredجَنَّتَكَjannatakayour gardenقُلْتَqul'tasayمَاWhatشَاءَshāawillsاللَّهُl-lahuAllahلَا(there is) noقُوَّةَquwwatapowerإِلَّاillāexceptبِاللَّهِbil-lahiwith AllahإِنْinIfتَرَنِtaraniyou seeأَنَاanāmeأَقَلَّaqallalesserمِنْكَminkathan youمَالًاmālan(in) wealthوَوَلَدًاwawaladanand children
  40. 40فَعَسَىfaʿasāIt may beرَبِّيrabbīthat my Lordأَنْanthat my Lordيُؤْتِيَنِyu'tiyaniwill give meخَيْرًاkhayranbetterمِنْminthanجَنَّتِكَjannatikayour gardenوَيُرْسِلَwayur'silaand will sendعَلَيْهَاʿalayhāupon itحُسْبَانًاḥus'bānana calamityمِنَminafromالسَّمَاءِl-samāithe skyفَتُصْبِحَfatuṣ'biḥathen it will becomeصَعِيدًاṣaʿīdangroundزَلَقًاzalaqanslippery
  41. 41أَوْawOrيُصْبِحَyuṣ'biḥawill becomeمَاؤُهَاmāuhāits waterغَوْرًاghawransunkenفَلَنْfalanso neverتَسْتَطِيعَtastaṭīʿayou will be ableلَهُlahuto find itطَلَبًاṭalabanto find it
  42. 42وَأُحِيطَwa-uḥīṭaAnd were surroundedبِثَمَرِهِbithamarihihis fruitsفَأَصْبَحَfa-aṣbaḥaso he beganيُقَلِّبُyuqallibutwistingكَفَّيْهِkaffayhihis handsعَلَىʿalāoverمَاwhatأَنْفَقَanfaqahe (had) spentفِيهَاfīhāon itوَهِيَwahiyawhile it (had)خَاوِيَةٌkhāwiyatuncollapsedعَلَىʿalāonعُرُوشِهَاʿurūshihāits trellisesوَيَقُولُwayaqūluand he saidيَالَيْتَنِيyālaytanīOh! I wishلَمْlamI had not associatedأُشْرِكْush'rikI had not associatedبِرَبِّيbirabbīwith my Lordأَحَدًاaḥadananyone
  43. 43وَلَمْwalamAnd notتَكُنْtakunwasلَهُlahufor himفِئَةٌfi-atuna groupيَنْصُرُونَهُyanṣurūnahu(to) help himمِنْminother thanدُونِdūniother thanاللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَمَاwamāand notكَانَkānawasمُنْتَصِرًاmuntaṣiran(he) supported
  44. 44هُنَالِكَhunālikaThereالْوَلَايَةُl-walāyatuthe protectionلِلَّهِlillahi(is) from Allahالْحَقِّl-ḥaqithe TrueهُوَhuwaHeخَيْرٌkhayrun(is the) bestثَوَابًاthawāban(to) rewardوَخَيْرٌwakhayrunand (the) bestعُقْبًاʿuq'ban(for) the final end
  45. 45وَاضْرِبْwa-iḍ'ribAnd presentلَهُمْlahumto themمَثَلَmathalathe exampleالْحَيَوةِl-ḥayati(of) the lifeالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the worldكَمَاءٍkamāinlike waterأَنْزَلْنَاهُanzalnāhuwhich We send downمِنَminafromالسَّمَاءِl-samāithe skyفَاخْتَلَطَfa-ikh'talaṭathen minglesبِهِbihiwith itنَبَاتُnabātu(the) vegetationالْأَرْضِl-arḍi(of) the earthفَأَصْبَحَfa-aṣbaḥathen becomesهَشِيمًاhashīmandry stalksتَذْرُوهُtadhrūhuit (is) scatteredالرِّيَاحُl-riyāḥu(by) the windsوَكَانَwakānaAnd Allahاللَّهُl-lahuAnd Allahعَلَىʿalāoverكُلِّkullieveryشَيْءٍshayinthingمُقْتَدِرًاmuq'tadiran(is) All Able
  46. 46الْمَالُal-māluThe wealthوَالْبَنُونَwal-banūnaand childrenزِينَةُzīnatu(are) adornmentالْحَيَوةِl-ḥayati(of) the lifeالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the worldوَالْبَاقِيَاتُwal-bāqiyātuBut the enduringالصَّالِحَاتُl-ṣāliḥātugood deedsخَيْرٌkhayrun(are) betterعِنْدَʿindanearرَبِّكَrabbikayour Lordثَوَابًاthawāban(for) rewardوَخَيْرٌwakhayrunand betterأَمَلًاamalan(for) hope
  47. 47وَيَوْمَwayawmaAnd the DayنُسَيِّرُnusayyiruWe will cause (to) moveالْجِبَالَl-jibālathe mountainsوَتَرَىwatarāand you will seeالْأَرْضَl-arḍathe earthبَارِزَةًbārizatan(as) a leveled plainوَحَشَرْنَاهُمْwaḥasharnāhumand We will gather themفَلَمْfalamand notنُغَادِرْnughādirWe will leave behindمِنْهُمْmin'humfrom themأَحَدًاaḥadananyone
  48. 48وَعُرِضُواwaʿuriḍūAnd they will be presentedعَلَىʿalābeforeرَبِّكَrabbikayour Lordصَفًّاṣaffan(in) rowsلَقَدْlaqadCertainlyجِئْتُمُونَاji'tumūnāyou have come to UsكَمَاkamāasخَلَقْنَاكُمْkhalaqnākumWe created youأَوَّلَawwalathe firstمَرَّةٍmarratintimeبَلْbalNayزَعَمْتُمْzaʿamtumyou claimedأَلَّنْallanthat notنَجْعَلَnajʿalaWe madeلَكُمْlakumfor youمَوْعِدًاmawʿidanan appointment
  49. 49وَوُضِعَwawuḍiʿaAnd (will) be placedالْكِتَابُl-kitābuthe Bookفَتَرَىfatarāand you will seeالْمُجْرِمِينَl-muj'rimīnathe criminalsمُشْفِقِينَmush'fiqīnafearfulمِمَّاmimmāof whatفِيهِfīhi(is) in itوَيَقُولُونَwayaqūlūnaand they will sayيَاوَيْلَتَنَاyāwaylatanāOh woe to us!مَالِmāliWhat (is) forهَذَاhādhāthisالْكِتَابِl-kitābi[the] Bookلَاnotيُغَادِرُyughādiruleavesصَغِيرَةًṣaghīratana smallوَلَاwalāand notكَبِيرَةًkabīratana greatإِلَّاillāexceptأَحْصَاهَاaḥṣāhāhas enumerated itوَوَجَدُواwawajadūAnd they will findمَاwhatعَمِلُواʿamilūthey didحَاضِرًاḥāḍiranpresentedوَلَاwalāAnd notيَظْلِمُyaẓlimudeals unjustlyرَبُّكَrabbukayour Lordأَحَدًاaḥadan(with) anyone
  50. 50وَإِذْwa-idhAnd whenقُلْنَاqul'nāWe saidلِلْمَلَائِكَةِlil'malāikatito the Angelsاسْجُدُواus'judūProstrateلِءَادَمَliādamato Adamفَسَجَدُواfasajadūso they prostratedإِلَّاillāexceptإِبْلِيسَib'līsaIblisكَانَkāna(He) wasمِنَminaofالْجِنِّl-jinithe jinnفَفَسَقَfafasaqaand he rebelledعَنْʿanagainstأَمْرِamrithe Commandرَبِّهِrabbihi(of) his LordأَفَتَتَّخِذُونَهُafatattakhidhūnahuWill you then take himوَذُرِّيَّتَهُwadhurriyyatahuand his offspringأَوْلِيَاءَawliyāa(as) protectorsمِنْminother than Meدُونِيdūnīother than Meوَهُمْwahumwhile theyلَكُمْlakum(are) to youعَدُوٌّʿaduwwunenemiesبِئْسَbi'saWretchedلِلظَّالِمِينَlilẓẓālimīnafor the wrongdoersبَدَلًاbadalan(is) the exchange
  51. 51مَاNotأَشْهَدْتُهُمْashhadttuhumI made them witnessخَلْقَkhalqathe creationالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavensوَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthوَلَاwalāand notخَلْقَkhalqathe creationأَنْفُسِهِمْanfusihim(of) themselvesوَمَاwamāand notكُنْتُkuntuI Amمُتَّخِذَmuttakhidhathe One to takeالْمُضِلِّينَl-muḍilīnathe misleadersعَضُدًاʿaḍudan(as) helper(s)
  52. 52وَيَوْمَwayawmaAnd the DayيَقُولُyaqūluHe will sayنَادُواnādūCallشُرَكَاءِيَshurakāiyaMy partnersالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoزَعَمْتُمْzaʿamtumyou claimedفَدَعَوْهُمْfadaʿawhumthen they will call themفَلَمْfalambut notيَسْتَجِيبُواyastajībūthey will respondلَهُمْlahumto themوَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāAnd We will makeبَيْنَهُمْbaynahumbetween themمَوْبِقًاmawbiqana barrier
  53. 53وَرَأَىwaraāAnd will seeالْمُجْرِمُونَl-muj'rimūnathe criminalsالنَّارَl-nārathe Fireفَظَنُّواfaẓannūand they (will be) certainأَنَّهُمْannahumthat theyمُوَاقِعُوهَاmuwāqiʿūhāare to fall in itوَلَمْwalamAnd notيَجِدُواyajidūthey will findعَنْهَاʿanhāfrom itمَصْرِفًاmaṣrifana way of escape
  54. 54وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainlyصَرَّفْنَاṣarrafnāWe have explainedفِيinهَذَاhādhāthisالْقُرْءَانِl-qur'ānithe Quranلِلنَّاسِlilnnāsifor mankindمِنْminofكُلِّkullieveryمَثَلٍmathalinexampleوَكَانَwakānaBut isالْإِنْسَانُl-insānuthe manأَكْثَرَakthara(in) mostشَيْءٍshayinthingsجَدَلًاjadalanquarrelsome
  55. 55وَمَاwamāAnd nothingمَنَعَmanaʿapreventsالنَّاسَl-nāsamenأَنْanthatيُؤْمِنُواyu'minūthey believeإِذْidhwhenجَاءَهُمُjāahumuhas come to themالْهُدَىl-hudāthe guidanceوَيَسْتَغْفِرُواwayastaghfirūand they ask forgivenessرَبَّهُمْrabbahum(of) their Lordإِلَّاillāexceptأَنْanthatتَأْتِيَهُمْtatiyahumcomes to themسُنَّةُsunnatu(the) wayالْأَوَّلِينَl-awalīna(of) the former (people)أَوْaworيَأْتِيَهُمُyatiyahumucomes to themالْعَذَابُl-ʿadhābuthe punishmentقُبُلًاqubulanbefore (them)
  56. 56وَمَاwamāAnd notنُرْسِلُnur'siluWe sendالْمُرْسَلِينَl-mur'salīnathe Messengersإِلَّاillāexceptمُبَشِّرِينَmubashirīna(as) bearers of glad tidingsوَمُنْذِرِينَwamundhirīnaand (as) warnersوَيُجَادِلُwayujādiluAnd disputeالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelieveبِالْبَاطِلِbil-bāṭiliwith falsehoodلِيُدْحِضُواliyud'ḥiḍūto refuteبِهِbihitherebyالْحَقَّl-ḥaqathe truthوَاتَّخَذُواwa-ittakhadhūAnd they takeءَايَاتِيāyātīMy Versesوَمَاwamāand whatأُنْذِرُواundhirūthey are warnedهُزُوًاhuzuwan(in) ridicule
  57. 57وَمَنْwamanAnd whoأَظْلَمُaẓlamu(is) more wrongمِمَّنْmimmanthan (he) whoذُكِّرَdhukkirais remindedبِءَايَاتِbiāyātiof the Versesرَبِّهِrabbihi(of) his Lordفَأَعْرَضَfa-aʿraḍabut turns awayعَنْهَاʿanhāfrom themوَنَسِيَwanasiyaand forgetsمَاwhatقَدَّمَتْqaddamathave sent forthيَدَاهُyadāhuhis handsإِنَّاinnāIndeed Weجَعَلْنَاjaʿalnā[We] have placedعَلَىʿalāoverقُلُوبِهِمْqulūbihimtheir heartsأَكِنَّةًakinnatancoveringsأَنْanlestيَفْقَهُوهُyafqahūhuthey understand itوَفِيwafīand inءَاذَانِهِمْādhānihimtheir earsوَقْرًاwaqran(is) deafnessوَإِنْwa-inAnd ifتَدْعُهُمْtadʿuhumyou call themإِلَىilātoالْهُدَىl-hudāthe guidanceفَلَنْfalanthen neverيَهْتَدُواyahtadūthey will be guidedإِذًاidhanthenأَبَدًاabadanever
  58. 58وَرَبُّكَwarabbukaAnd your Lordالْغَفُورُl-ghafūru(is) the Most ForgivingذُوdhūOwnerالرَّحْمَةِl-raḥmati(of) the MercyلَوْlawIfيُؤَاخِذُهُمْyuākhidhuhumHe were to seize themبِمَاbimāfor whatكَسَبُواkasabūthey have earnedلَعَجَّلَlaʿajjalasurely, He (would) have hastenedلَهُمُlahumufor themالْعَذَابَl-ʿadhābathe punishmentبَلْbalButلَهُمْlahumfor themمَوْعِدٌmawʿidun(is) an appointmentلَنْlanneverيَجِدُواyajidūthey will findمِنْminother than itدُونِهِdūnihiother than itمَوْئِلًاmawilanan escape
  59. 59وَتِلْكَwatil'kaAnd theseالْقُرَىl-qurā[the] townsأَهْلَكْنَاهُمْahlaknāhumWe destroyed themلَمَّاlammāwhenظَلَمُواẓalamūthey wrongedوَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāand We madeلِمَهْلِكِهِمْlimahlikihimfor their destructionمَوْعِدًاmawʿidanan appointed time
  60. 60وَإِذْwa-idhAnd whenقَالَqālasaidمُوسَىmūsāMusaلِفَتَاهُlifatāhuto his boyلَاNotأَبْرَحُabraḥuI will ceaseحَتَّىḥattāuntilأَبْلُغَablughaI reachمَجْمَعَmajmaʿathe junctionالْبَحْرَيْنِl-baḥrayni(of) the two seasأَوْaworأَمْضِيَamḍiyaI continueحُقُبًاḥuquban(for) a long period
  61. 61فَلَمَّاfalammāBut whenبَلَغَاbalaghāthey reachedمَجْمَعَmajmaʿathe junctionبَيْنِهِمَاbaynihimābetween themنَسِيَاnasiyāthey forgotحُوتَهُمَاḥūtahumātheir fishفَاتَّخَذَfa-ittakhadhaand it tookسَبِيلَهُsabīlahuits wayفِيintoالْبَحْرِl-baḥrithe seaسَرَبًاsarabanslipping away
  62. 62فَلَمَّاfalammāThen whenجَاوَزَاjāwazāthey had passed beyondقَالَqālahe saidلِفَتَاهُlifatāhuto his boyءَاتِنَاātināBring usغَدَاءَنَاghadāanāour morning mealلَقَدْlaqadCertainlyلَقِينَاlaqīnāwe have sufferedمِنْmininسَفَرِنَاsafarināour journeyهَذَاhādhāthisنَصَبًاnaṣabanfatigue
  63. 63قَالَqālaHe saidأَرَءَيْتَara-aytaDid you seeإِذْidhwhenأَوَيْنَاawaynāwe retiredإِلَىilātoالصَّخْرَةِl-ṣakhratithe rockفَإِنِّيfa-innīThen indeed Iنَسِيتُnasītu[I] forgotالْحُوتَl-ḥūtathe fishوَمَاwamāAnd notأَنْسَانِيهُansānīhumade me forget itإِلَّاillāexceptالشَّيْطَانُl-shayṭānuthe ShaitaanأَنْanthatأَذْكُرَهُadhkurahuI mention itوَاتَّخَذَwa-ittakhadhaAnd it tookسَبِيلَهُsabīlahuits wayفِيintoالْبَحْرِl-baḥrithe seaعَجَبًاʿajabanamazingly
  64. 64قَالَqālaHe saidذَلِكَdhālikaThatمَا(is) whatكُنَّاkunnāwe wereنَبْغِnabghiseekingفَارْتَدَّاfa-ir'taddāSo they returnedعَلَىʿalāonءَاثَارِهِمَاāthārihimātheir footprintsقَصَصًاqaṣaṣanretracing
  65. 65فَوَجَدَاfawajadāThen they foundعَبْدًاʿabdana servantمِنْminfromعِبَادِنَاʿibādināOur servantsءَاتَيْنَاهُātaynāhuwhom We had givenرَحْمَةًraḥmatanmercyمِنْminfromعِنْدِنَاʿindināUsوَعَلَّمْنَاهُwaʿallamnāhuand We had taught himمِنْminfromلَدُنَّاladunnāUsعِلْمًاʿil'mana knowledge
  66. 66قَالَqālaSaidلَهُlahuto himمُوسَىmūsāMusaهَلْhalMayأَتَّبِعُكَattabiʿukaI follow youعَلَىʿalāonأَنْanthatتُعَلِّمَنِtuʿallimaniyou teach meمِمَّاmimmāof whatعُلِّمْتَʿullim'tayou have been taughtرُشْدًاrush'dan(of) right guidance
  67. 67قَالَqālaHe saidإِنَّكَinnakaIndeed youلَنْlanneverتَسْتَطِيعَtastaṭīʿawill be ableمَعِيَmaʿiyawith meصَبْرًاṣabran(to have) patience
  68. 68وَكَيْفَwakayfaAnd how canتَصْبِرُtaṣbiruyou have patienceعَلَىʿalāforمَاwhatلَمْlamnotتُحِطْtuḥiṭyou encompassبِهِbihiof itخُبْرًاkhub'ranany knowledge
  69. 69قَالَqālaHe saidسَتَجِدُنِيsatajidunīYou will find meإِنْinifشَاءَshāaAllah willsاللَّهُl-lahuAllah willsصَابِرًاṣābiranpatientوَلَاwalāand notأَعْصِيaʿṣīI will disobeyلَكَlakayourأَمْرًاamranorder
  70. 70قَالَqālaHe saidفَإِنِfa-iniThen ifاتَّبَعْتَنِيittabaʿtanīyou follow meفَلَاfalā(do) notتَسْءَلْنِيtasalnīask meعَنْʿanaboutشَيْءٍshayinanythingحَتَّىḥattāuntilأُحْدِثَuḥ'dithaI presentلَكَlakato youمِنْهُmin'huof itذِكْرًاdhik'rana mention
  71. 71فَانْطَلَقَاfa-inṭalaqāSo they both set outحَتَّىḥattāuntilإِذَاidhāwhenرَكِبَاrakibāthey had embarkedفِيonالسَّفِينَةِl-safīnatithe shipخَرَقَهَاkharaqahāhe made a hole in itقَالَqālaHe saidأَخَرَقْتَهَاakharaqtahāHave you made a hole in itلِتُغْرِقَlitugh'riqato drownأَهْلَهَاahlahāits peopleلَقَدْlaqadCertainlyجِئْتَji'tayou have doneشَيْئًاshayana thingإِمْرًاim'rangrave
  72. 72قَالَqālaHe saidأَلَمْalamDid notأَقُلْaqulI sayإِنَّكَinnakaindeed youلَنْlanneverتَسْتَطِيعَtastaṭīʿawill be ableمَعِيَmaʿiyawith meصَبْرًاṣabran(to have) patience
  73. 73قَالَqālaHe saidلَا(Do) notتُؤَاخِذْنِيtuākhidh'nīblame meبِمَاbimāfor whatنَسِيتُnasītuI forgotوَلَاwalāand (do) notتُرْهِقْنِيtur'hiq'nībe hard (upon) meمِنْmininأَمْرِيamrīmy affairعُسْرًاʿus'ran(raising) difficulty
  74. 74فَانْطَلَقَاfa-inṭalaqāThen they both set outحَتَّىḥattāuntilإِذَاidhāwhenلَقِيَاlaqiyāthey metغُلَامًاghulāmana boyفَقَتَلَهُfaqatalahuthen he killed himقَالَqālaHe saidأَقَتَلْتَaqataltaHave you killedنَفْسًاnafsana soulزَكِيَّةًzakiyyatanpureبِغَيْرِbighayrifor other thanنَفْسٍnafsina soulلَقَدْlaqadCertainlyجِئْتَji'tayou have doneشَيْئًاshayana thingنُكْرًاnuk'ranevil
  75. 75قَالَqālaHe saidأَلَمْalamDid notأَقُلْaqulI sayلَكَlakato youإِنَّكَinnakathat youلَنْlanneverتَسْتَطِيعَtastaṭīʿawill be ableمَعِيَmaʿiyawith meصَبْرًاṣabran(to have) patience
  76. 76قَالَqālaHe saidإِنْinIfسَأَلْتُكَsa-altukaI ask youعَنْʿanaboutشَيْءٍshayinanythingبَعْدَهَاbaʿdahāafter itفَلَاfalāthen (do) notتُصَاحِبْنِيtuṣāḥib'nīkeep me as a companionقَدْqadVerilyبَلَغْتَbalaghtayou have reachedمِنْminfrom meلَدُنِّيladunnīfrom meعُذْرًاʿudh'ranan excuse
  77. 77فَانْطَلَقَاfa-inṭalaqāSo they set outحَتَّىḥattāuntilإِذَاidhāwhenأَتَيَاatayāthey cameأَهْلَahla(to the) peopleقَرْيَةٍqaryatin(of) a townاسْتَطْعَمَاis'taṭʿamāthey asked for foodأَهْلَهَاahlahā(from) its peopleفَأَبَوْاfa-abawbut they refusedأَنْantoيُضَيِّفُوهُمَاyuḍayyifūhumāoffer them hospitalityفَوَجَدَاfawajadāThen they foundفِيهَاfīhāin itجِدَارًاjidārana wallيُرِيدُyurīdu(that) want(ed)أَنْantoيَنْقَضَّyanqaḍḍacollapseفَأَقَامَهُfa-aqāmahuso he set it straightقَالَqālaHe saidلَوْlawIfشِئْتَshi'tayou wishedلَاتَّخَذْتَlattakhadhtasurely you (could) have takenعَلَيْهِʿalayhifor itأَجْرًاajrana payment
  78. 78قَالَqālaHe saidهَذَاhādhāThisفِرَاقُfirāqu(is) partingبَيْنِيbaynībetween meوَبَيْنِكَwabaynikaand between youسَأُنَبِّئُكَsa-unabbi-ukaI will inform youبِتَأْوِيلِbitawīliof (the) interpretationمَا(of) whatلَمْlamnotتَسْتَطِعْtastaṭiʿyou were ableعَلَيْهِʿalayhion itصَبْرًاṣabran(to have) patience
  79. 79أَمَّاammāAs forالسَّفِينَةُl-safīnatuthe shipفَكَانَتْfakānatit wasلِمَسَاكِينَlimasākīnaof (the) poor peopleيَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūnaworkingفِيinالْبَحْرِl-baḥrithe seaفَأَرَدْتُfa-aradttuSo I intendedأَنْanthatأَعِيبَهَاaʿībahāI cause defect (in) itوَكَانَwakāna(as there) wasوَرَاءَهُمْwarāahumafter themمَلِكٌmalikuna kingيَأْخُذُyakhudhuwho seizedكُلَّkullaeveryسَفِينَةٍsafīnatinshipغَصْبًاghaṣban(by) force
  80. 80وَأَمَّاwa-ammāAnd as forالْغُلَامُl-ghulāmuthe boyفَكَانَfakānahis parents wereأَبَوَاهُabawāhuhis parents wereمُؤْمِنَيْنِmu'minaynibelieversفَخَشِينَاfakhashīnāand we fearedأَنْanthatيُرْهِقَهُمَاyur'hiqahumāhe would overburden themطُغْيَانًاṭugh'yānan(by) transgressionوَكُفْرًاwakuf'ranand disbelief
  81. 81فَأَرَدْنَاfa-aradnāSo we intendedأَنْanthatيُبْدِلَهُمَاyub'dilahumāwould change for themرَبُّهُمَاrabbuhumātheir Lordخَيْرًاkhayrana betterمِنْهُmin'huthan himزَكَوةًzakatan(in) purityوَأَقْرَبَwa-aqrabaand nearerرُحْمًاruḥ'man(in) affection
  82. 82وَأَمَّاwa-ammāAnd as forالْجِدَارُl-jidāruthe wallفَكَانَfakānait wasلِغُلَامَيْنِlighulāmaynifor two orphan boysيَتِيمَيْنِyatīmaynifor two orphan boysفِيinالْمَدِينَةِl-madīnatithe townوَكَانَwakānaand wasتَحْتَهُtaḥtahuunderneath itكَنْزٌkanzuna treasureلَهُمَاlahumāfor themوَكَانَwakānaand wasأَبُوهُمَاabūhumātheir fatherصَالِحًاṣāliḥanrighteousفَأَرَادَfa-arādaSo intendedرَبُّكَrabbukayour Lordأَنْanthatيَبْلُغَاyablughāthey reachأَشُدَّهُمَاashuddahumātheir maturityوَيَسْتَخْرِجَاwayastakhrijāand bring forthكَنْزَهُمَاkanzahumātheir treasureرَحْمَةًraḥmatan(as) a mercyمِنْminfromرَبِّكَrabbikayour LordوَمَاwamāAnd notفَعَلْتُهُfaʿaltuhuI did itعَنْʿanonأَمْرِيamrīmy (own) accordذَلِكَdhālikaThatتَأْوِيلُtawīlu(is the) interpretationمَا(of) whatلَمْlamnotتَسْطِعْtasṭiʿyou were ableعَلَيْهِʿalayhion itصَبْرًاṣabran(to have) patience
  83. 83وَيَسْءَلُونَكَwayasalūnakaAnd they ask youعَنْʿanaboutذِيdhīDhul-qarnainالْقَرْنَيْنِl-qarnayniDhul-qarnainقُلْqulSayسَأَتْلُواsa-atlūI will reciteعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumto youمِنْهُmin'huabout himذِكْرًاdhik'rana remembrance
  84. 84إِنَّاinnāIndeed Weمَكَّنَّاmakkannā[We] establishedلَهُlahu[for] himفِيinالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthوَءَاتَيْنَاهُwaātaynāhuand We gave himمِنْminofكُلِّkullieveryشَيْءٍshayinthingسَبَبًاsababana means
  85. 85فَأَتْبَعَfa-atbaʿaSo he followedسَبَبًاsababana course
  86. 86حَتَّىḥattāUntilإِذَاidhāwhenبَلَغَbalaghahe reachedمَغْرِبَmaghriba(the) setting placeالشَّمْسِl-shamsi(of) the sunوَجَدَهَاwajadahāhe found itتَغْرُبُtaghrubusettingفِيinعَيْنٍʿaynina springحَمِئَةٍḥami-atin(of) dark mudوَوَجَدَwawajadaand he foundعِنْدَهَاʿindahānear itقَوْمًاqawmana communityقُلْنَاqul'nāWe saidيَاذَاyādhāO Dhul-qarnainالْقَرْنَيْنِl-qarnayniO Dhul-qarnainإِمَّاimmāEitherأَنْan[that]تُعَذِّبَtuʿadhibayou punishوَإِمَّاwa-immāorأَنْan[that]تَتَّخِذَtattakhidhayou takeفِيهِمْfīhim[in] themحُسْنًاḥus'nan(with) goodness
  87. 87قَالَqālaHe saidأَمَّاammāAs forمَنْman(one) whoظَلَمَẓalamawrongsفَسَوْفَfasawfathen soonنُعَذِّبُهُnuʿadhibuhuwe will punish himثُمَّthummaThenيُرَدُّyuradduhe will be returnedإِلَىilātoرَبِّهِrabbihihis Lordفَيُعَذِّبُهُfayuʿadhibuhuand He will punish himعَذَابًاʿadhāban(with) a punishmentنُكْرًاnuk'ranterrible
  88. 88وَأَمَّاwa-ammāBut as forمَنْman(one) whoءَامَنَāmanabelievesوَعَمِلَwaʿamilaand doesصَالِحًاṣāliḥanrighteous (deeds)فَلَهُfalahuthen for himجَزَاءًjazāan(is) a rewardالْحُسْنَىl-ḥus'nāgoodوَسَنَقُولُwasanaqūluAnd we will speakلَهُlahuto himمِنْminfromأَمْرِنَاamrināour commandيُسْرًاyus'ran(with) ease
  89. 89ثُمَّthummaThenأَتْبَعَatbaʿahe followedسَبَبًاsababan(a) course
  90. 90حَتَّىḥattāUntilإِذَاidhāwhenبَلَغَbalaghahe reachedمَطْلِعَmaṭliʿa(the) rising placeالشَّمْسِl-shamsi(of) the sunوَجَدَهَاwajadahāand he found itتَطْلُعُtaṭluʿurisingعَلَىʿalāonقَوْمٍqawmina communityلَمْlamnotنَجْعَلْnajʿalWe madeلَهُمْlahumfor themمِنْminagainst itدُونِهَاdūnihāagainst itسِتْرًاsit'ranany shelter
  91. 91كَذَلِكَkadhālikaThusوَقَدْwaqadAnd verilyأَحَطْنَاaḥaṭnāWe encompassedبِمَاbimāof whatلَدَيْهِladayhi(was) with himخُبْرًاkhub'ran(of the) information
  92. 92ثُمَّthummaThenأَتْبَعَatbaʿahe followedسَبَبًاsababana course
  93. 93حَتَّىḥattāUntilإِذَاidhāwhenبَلَغَbalaghahe reachedبَيْنَbaynabetweenالسَّدَّيْنِl-sadaynithe two mountainsوَجَدَwajadahe foundمِنْminbesides themدُونِهِمَاdūnihimābesides themقَوْمًاqawmana communityلَاnotيَكَادُونَyakādūnawho would almostيَفْقَهُونَyafqahūnaunderstandقَوْلًاqawlan(his) speech
  94. 94قَالُواqālūThey saidيَاذَاyādhāO Dhul-qarnainالْقَرْنَيْنِl-qarnayniO Dhul-qarnainإِنَّinnaIndeedيَأْجُوجَyajūjaYajujوَمَأْجُوجَwamajūjaand Majujمُفْسِدُونَmuf'sidūna(are) corruptersفِيinالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe landفَهَلْfahalSo mayنَجْعَلُnajʿaluwe makeلَكَlakafor youخَرْجًاkharjanan expenditureعَلَىʿalā[on]أَنْanthatتَجْعَلَtajʿalayou makeبَيْنَنَاbaynanābetween usوَبَيْنَهُمْwabaynahumand between themسَدًّاsaddana barrier
  95. 95قَالَqālaHe saidمَاWhatمَكَّنِّيmakkannīhas established meفِيهِfīhi[in it]رَبِّيrabbīmy Lordخَيْرٌkhayrun(is) betterفَأَعِينُونِيfa-aʿīnūnībut assist meبِقُوَّةٍbiquwwatinwith strengthأَجْعَلْajʿalI will makeبَيْنَكُمْbaynakumbetween youوَبَيْنَهُمْwabaynahumand between themرَدْمًاradmana barrier
  96. 96ءَاتُونِيātūnīBring meزُبَرَzubarasheetsالْحَدِيدِl-ḥadīdi(of) ironحَتَّىḥattāuntilإِذَاidhāwhenسَاوَىsāwāhe (had) leveledبَيْنَbaynabetweenالصَّدَفَيْنِl-ṣadafaynithe two cliffsقَالَqālahe saidانْفُخُواunfukhūBlowحَتَّىḥattāuntilإِذَاidhāwhenجَعَلَهُjaʿalahuhe made itنَارًاnāranfireقَالَqālahe saidءَاتُونِيātūnīBring meأُفْرِغْuf'righI pourعَلَيْهِʿalayhiover itقِطْرًاqiṭ'ranmolten copper
  97. 97فَمَاfamāSo notاسْطَاعُواis'ṭāʿūthey were ableأَنْantoيَظْهَرُوهُyaẓharūhuscale itوَمَاwamāand notاسْتَطَاعُواis'taṭāʿūthey were ableلَهُlahuin itنَقْبًاnaqban(to do) any penetration
  98. 98قَالَqālaHe saidهَذَاhādhāThisرَحْمَةٌraḥmatun(is) a mercyمِنْminfromرَبِّيrabbīmy Lordفَإِذَاfa-idhāBut whenجَاءَjāacomesوَعْدُwaʿdu(the) Promiseرَبِّيrabbī(of) my LordجَعَلَهُjaʿalahuHe will make itدَكَّاءَdakkāalevelوَكَانَwakānaAnd isوَعْدُwaʿdu(the) Promiseرَبِّيrabbī(of) my Lordحَقًّاḥaqqantrue
  99. 99وَتَرَكْنَاwataraknāAnd We (will) leaveبَعْضَهُمْbaʿḍahumsome of themيَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhin(on) that Dayيَمُوجُyamūjuto surgeفِيoverبَعْضٍbaʿḍinothersوَنُفِخَwanufikhaand (will be) blownفِيinالصُّورِl-ṣūrithe trumpetفَجَمَعْنَاهُمْfajamaʿnāhumthen We (will) gather themجَمْعًاjamʿanall together
  100. 100وَعَرَضْنَاwaʿaraḍnāAnd We (will) presentجَهَنَّمَjahannamaHellيَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhin(on) that Dayلِلْكَافِرِينَlil'kāfirīnato the disbelieversعَرْضًاʿarḍan(on) display
  101. 101الَّذِينَalladhīnaThoseكَانَتْkānathad beenأَعْيُنُهُمْaʿyunuhumtheir eyesفِيwithinغِطَاءٍghiṭāina coverعَنْʿanfromذِكْرِيdhik'rīMy remembranceوَكَانُواwakānūand wereلَاnotيَسْتَطِيعُونَyastaṭīʿūnaableسَمْعًاsamʿan(to) hear
  102. 102أَفَحَسِبَafaḥasibaDo then thinkالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelieveأَنْanthatيَتَّخِذُواyattakhidhūthey (can) takeعِبَادِيʿibādīMy servantsمِنْminbesides Meدُونِيdūnībesides Meأَوْلِيَاءَawliyāa(as) protectorsإِنَّاinnāIndeed, WeأَعْتَدْنَاaʿtadnāWe have preparedجَهَنَّمَjahannamaHellلِلْكَافِرِينَlil'kāfirīnafor the disbelieversنُزُلًاnuzulan(as) a lodging
  103. 103قُلْqulSayهَلْhalShallنُنَبِّئُكُمْnunabbi-ukumWe inform youبِالْأَخْسَرِينَbil-akhsarīnaof the greatest losersأَعْمَالًاaʿmālan(as to their) deeds
  104. 104الَّذِينَalladhīnaThoseضَلَّḍallais lostسَعْيُهُمْsaʿyuhumtheir effortفِيinالْحَيَوةِl-ḥayatithe lifeالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the worldوَهُمْwahumwhile theyيَحْسَبُونَyaḥsabūnathinkأَنَّهُمْannahumthat theyيُحْسِنُونَyuḥ'sinūna(were) acquiring goodصُنْعًاṣun'ʿan(in) work
  105. 105أُولَئِكَulāikaThoseالَّذِينَalladhīna(are) the ones whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelieveبِءَايَاتِbiāyātiin the Versesرَبِّهِمْrabbihim(of) their Lordوَلِقَائِهِwaliqāihiand the meeting (with) HimفَحَبِطَتْfaḥabiṭatSo (are) vainأَعْمَالُهُمْaʿmāluhumtheir deedsفَلَاfalāso notنُقِيمُnuqīmuWe will assignلَهُمْlahumfor themيَوْمَyawma(on) the Dayالْقِيَامَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrectionوَزْنًاwaznanany weight
  106. 106ذَلِكَdhālikaThatجَزَاؤُهُمْjazāuhum(is) their recompenseجَهَنَّمُjahannamuHellبِمَاbimābecauseكَفَرُواkafarūthey disbelievedوَاتَّخَذُواwa-ittakhadhūand tookءَايَاتِيāyātīMy Versesوَرُسُلِيwarusulīand My Messengersهُزُوًاhuzuwan(in) ridicule
  107. 107إِنَّinnaIndeedالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelievedوَعَمِلُواwaʿamilūand didالصَّالِحَاتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deedsكَانَتْkānatfor them will beلَهُمْlahumfor them will beجَنَّاتُjannātuGardensالْفِرْدَوْسِl-fir'dawsi(of) the Paradiseنُزُلًاnuzulan(as) a lodging
  108. 108خَالِدِينَkhālidīnaAbiding foreverفِيهَاfīhāin itلَاNotيَبْغُونَyabghūnathey will desireعَنْهَاʿanhāfrom itحِوَلًاḥiwalanany transfer
  109. 109قُلْqulSayلَوْlawIfكَانَkānawereالْبَحْرُl-baḥruthe seaمِدَادًاmidādaninkلِكَلِمَاتِlikalimātifor (the) Wordsرَبِّيrabbī(of) my Lordلَنَفِدَlanafidasurely (would be) exhaustedالْبَحْرُl-baḥruthe seaقَبْلَqablabeforeأَنْan[that]تَنْفَدَtanfada(were) exhaustedكَلِمَاتُkalimātu(the) Wordsرَبِّيrabbī(of) my Lordوَلَوْwalaweven ifجِئْنَاji'nāWe broughtبِمِثْلِهِbimith'lihi(the) like (of) itمَدَدًاmadadan(as) a supplement
  110. 110قُلْqulSayإِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyأَنَاanāIبَشَرٌbasharun(am) a manمِثْلُكُمْmith'lukumlike youيُوحَىyūḥāHas been revealedإِلَيَّilayyato meأَنَّمَاannamāthatإِلَهُكُمْilāhukumyour Godإِلَهٌilāhun(is) GodوَاحِدٌwāḥidunOneفَمَنْfamanSo whoeverكَانَkānaisيَرْجُواyarjūhopingلِقَاءَliqāa(for the) meetingرَبِّهِrabbihi(with) his Lordفَلْيَعْمَلْfalyaʿmallet him doعَمَلًاʿamalandeedsصَالِحًاṣāliḥanrighteousوَلَاwalāand notيُشْرِكْyush'rikassociateبِعِبَادَةِbiʿibādatiin (the) worshipرَبِّهِrabbihi(of) his Lordأَحَدًاaḥadananyone
