بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Surah 12 — Yusuf

  1. 1الٓرalif-lam-raAlif Laam Raتِلْكَtil'kaTheseءَايَاتُāyātu(are the) Versesالْكِتَابِl-kitābi(of) the Bookالْمُبِينِl-mubīni[the] clear
  2. 2إِنَّاinnāIndeed, WeأَنْزَلْنَاهُanzalnāhuWe have sent it downقُرْءَانًاqur'ānan(as) a Quran in Arabicعَرَبِيًّاʿarabiyyan(as) a Quran in Arabicلَعَلَّكُمْlaʿallakumso that you mayتَعْقِلُونَtaʿqilūnaunderstand
  3. 3نَحْنُnaḥnuWeنَقُصُّnaquṣṣurelateعَلَيْكَʿalaykato youأَحْسَنَaḥsanathe bestالْقَصَصِl-qaṣaṣiof the narrationsبِمَاbimāin whatأَوْحَيْنَاawḥaynāWe have revealedإِلَيْكَilaykato youهَذَاhādhā(of) thisالْقُرْءَانَl-qur'ānathe Quranوَإِنْwa-inalthoughكُنْتَkuntayou wereمِنْminbefore itقَبْلِهِqablihibefore itلَمِنَlaminasurely amongالْغَافِلِينَl-ghāfilīnathe unaware
  4. 4إِذْidhWhenقَالَqālasaidيُوسُفُyūsufuYusufلِأَبِيهِli-abīhito his fatherيَاأَبَتِyāabatiO my fatherإِنِّيinnīIndeed, Iرَأَيْتُra-aytuI sawأَحَدَaḥadaelevenعَشَرَʿasharaelevenكَوْكَبًاkawkabanstar(s)وَالشَّمْسَwal-shamsaand the sunوَالْقَمَرَwal-qamaraand the moonرَأَيْتُهُمْra-aytuhumI saw themلِيto meسَاجِدِينَsājidīnaprostrating
  5. 5قَالَqālaHe saidيَابُنَيَّyābunayyaO my son!لَا(Do) notتَقْصُصْtaqṣuṣrelateرُءْيَاكَru'yākayour visionعَلَىʿalātoإِخْوَتِكَikh'watikayour brothersفَيَكِيدُواfayakīdūlest they planلَكَlakaagainst youكَيْدًاkaydana plotإِنَّinnaIndeedالشَّيْطَانَl-shayṭānathe Shaitaanلِلْإِنْسَانِlil'insāni(is) to manعَدُوٌّʿaduwwunan enemyمُبِينٌmubīnunopen
  6. 6وَكَذَلِكَwakadhālikaAnd thusيَجْتَبِيكَyajtabīkawill choose youرَبُّكَrabbukayour Lordوَيُعَلِّمُكَwayuʿallimukaand will teach youمِنْminofتَأْوِيلِtawīli(the) interpretationالْأَحَادِيثِl-aḥādīthi(of) the narrativesوَيُتِمُّwayutimmuand completeنِعْمَتَهُniʿ'matahuHis Favorعَلَيْكَʿalaykaon youوَعَلَىwaʿalāand onءَالِāli(the) familyيَعْقُوبَyaʿqūba(of) YaqubكَمَاkamāasأَتَمَّهَاatammahāHe completed itعَلَىʿalāonأَبَوَيْكَabawaykayour two forefathersمِنْminbeforeقَبْلُqablubeforeإِبْرَاهِيمَib'rāhīmaIbrahimوَإِسْحَاقَwa-is'ḥāqaand IshaqإِنَّinnaIndeedرَبَّكَrabbakayour Lordعَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) All-KnowerحَكِيمٌḥakīmunAll-Wise
  7. 7لَقَدْlaqadCertainlyكَانَkānawereفِيinيُوسُفَyūsufaYusufوَإِخْوَتِهِwa-ikh'watihiand his brothersءَايَاتٌāyātunsignsلِلسَّائِلِينَlilssāilīnafor those who ask
  8. 8إِذْidhWhenقَالُواqālūthey saidلَيُوسُفُlayūsufuSurely Yusufوَأَخُوهُwa-akhūhuand his brotherأَحَبُّaḥabbu(are) more belovedإِلَىilātoأَبِينَاabīnāour fatherمِنَّاminnāthan weوَنَحْنُwanaḥnuwhile weعُصْبَةٌʿuṣ'batun(are) a groupإِنَّinnaIndeedأَبَانَاabānāour fatherلَفِيlafī(is) surely inضَلَالٍḍalālinan errorمُبِينٍmubīninclear
  9. 9اقْتُلُواuq'tulūKillيُوسُفَyūsufaYusufأَوِawiorاطْرَحُوهُiṭ'raḥūhucast himأَرْضًاarḍan(to) a landيَخْلُyakhluso will be freeلَكُمْlakumfor youوَجْهُwajhu(the) faceأَبِيكُمْabīkum(of) your fatherوَتَكُونُواwatakūnūand you will beمِنْminafter thatبَعْدِهِbaʿdihiafter thatقَوْمًاqawmana peopleصَالِحِينَṣāliḥīnarighteous
  10. 10قَالَqālaSaidقَائِلٌqāiluna speakerمِنْهُمْmin'humamong themلَا(Do) notتَقْتُلُواtaqtulūkillيُوسُفَyūsufaYusufوَأَلْقُوهُwa-alqūhubut throw himفِيinغَيَبَتِghayābatithe bottomالْجُبِّl-jubi(of) the wellيَلْتَقِطْهُyaltaqiṭ'huwill pick himبَعْضُbaʿḍusomeالسَّيَّارَةِl-sayārati[the] caravanإِنْinifكُنْتُمْkuntumyou areفَاعِلِينَfāʿilīnadoing
  11. 11قَالُواqālūThey saidيَاأَبَانَاyāabānāO our father!مَاWhyلَكَlaka(do) youلَاnotتَأْمَنَّاtamannātrust usعَلَىʿalāwithيُوسُفَyūsufaYusufوَإِنَّاwa-innāwhile indeed weلَهُlahu(are) for himلَنَاصِحُونَlanāṣiḥūnasurely well-wishers
  12. 12أَرْسِلْهُarsil'huSend himمَعَنَاmaʿanāwith usغَدًاghadantomorrowيَرْتَعْyartaʿ(to) enjoyوَيَلْعَبْwayalʿaband playوَإِنَّاwa-innāAnd indeed, weلَهُlahufor himلَحَافِظُونَlaḥāfiẓūna(will) surely (be) guardians
  13. 13قَالَqālaHe saidإِنِّيinnīIndeed, [I]لَيَحْزُنُنِيlayaḥzununīit surely saddens meأَنْanthatتَذْهَبُواtadhhabūyou should take himبِهِbihiyou should take himوَأَخَافُwa-akhāfuand I fearأَنْanthatيَأْكُلَهُyakulahuwould eat himالذِّئْبُl-dhi'bua wolfوَأَنْتُمْwa-antumwhile youعَنْهُʿanhuof himغَافِلُونَghāfilūna(are) unaware
  14. 14قَالُواqālūThey saidلَئِنْla-inIfأَكَلَهُakalahueats himالذِّئْبُl-dhi'buthe wolfوَنَحْنُwanaḥnuwhile weعُصْبَةٌʿuṣ'batun(are) a groupإِنَّاinnāindeed weإِذًاidhanthenلَخَاسِرُونَlakhāsirūnasurely (would be) losers
  15. 15فَلَمَّاfalammāSo whenذَهَبُواdhahabūthey took himبِهِbihithey took himوَأَجْمَعُواwa-ajmaʿūand agreedأَنْanthatيَجْعَلُوهُyajʿalūhuthey put himفِيinغَيَبَتِghayābati(the) bottomالْجُبِّl-jubi(of) the wellوَأَوْحَيْنَاwa-awḥaynāBut We inspiredإِلَيْهِilayhito himلَتُنَبِّئَنَّهُمْlatunabbi-annahumSurely, you will inform themبِأَمْرِهِمْbi-amrihimabout this affairهَذَاhādhāabout this affairوَهُمْwahumwhile theyلَا(do) notيَشْعُرُونَyashʿurūnaperceive
  16. 16وَجَاءُوwajāūAnd they cameأَبَاهُمْabāhum(to) their fatherعِشَاءًʿishāanearly at nightيَبْكُونَyabkūnaweeping
  17. 17قَالُواqālūThey saidيَاأَبَانَاyāabānāO our father!إِنَّاinnāIndeed weذَهَبْنَاdhahabnā[we] wentنَسْتَبِقُnastabiquracing each otherوَتَرَكْنَاwataraknāand we leftيُوسُفَyūsufaYusufعِنْدَʿindawithمَتَاعِنَاmatāʿināour possessionsفَأَكَلَهُfa-akalahuand ate himالذِّئْبُl-dhi'buthe wolfوَمَاwamāBut notأَنْتَantayouبِمُؤْمِنٍbimu'minin(will) believeلَنَاlanāusوَلَوْwalaweven ifكُنَّاkunnāwe areصَادِقِينَṣādiqīnatruthful
  18. 18وَجَاءُوwajāūAnd they broughtعَلَىʿalāuponقَمِيصِهِqamīṣihihis shirtبِدَمٍbidaminwith false bloodكَذِبٍkadhibinwith false bloodقَالَqālaHe saidبَلْbalNayسَوَّلَتْsawwalathas enticed youلَكُمْlakumhas enticed youأَنْفُسُكُمْanfusukumyour soulsأَمْرًاamran(to) a matterفَصَبْرٌfaṣabrunso patienceجَمِيلٌjamīlun(is) beautifulوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahالْمُسْتَعَانُl-mus'taʿānu(is) the One sought for helpعَلَىʿalāagainstمَاwhatتَصِفُونَtaṣifūnayou describe
  19. 19وَجَاءَتْwajāatAnd there cameسَيَّارَةٌsayyāratuna caravanفَأَرْسَلُواfa-arsalūand they sentوَارِدَهُمْwāridahumtheir water drawerفَأَدْلَىfa-adlāthen he let downدَلْوَهُdalwahuhis bucketقَالَqālaHe saidيَابُشْرَىyābush'rāO good news!هَذَاhādhāThisغُلَامٌghulāmun(is) a boyوَأَسَرُّوهُwa-asarrūhuAnd they hid himبِضَاعَةًbiḍāʿatan(as) a merchandiseوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahعَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) All- Knowerبِمَاbimāof whatيَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūnathey do
  20. 20وَشَرَوْهُwasharawhuAnd they sold himبِثَمَنٍbithamaninfor a priceبَخْسٍbakhsinvery lowدَرَاهِمَdarāhimadirhamsمَعْدُودَةٍmaʿdūdatinfewوَكَانُواwakānūand they wereفِيهِfīhiabout himمِنَminaofالزَّاهِدِينَl-zāhidīnathose keen to give up
  21. 21وَقَالَwaqālaAnd saidالَّذِيalladhīthe one whoاشْتَرَاهُish'tarāhubought himمِنْminofمِصْرَmiṣ'raEgyptلِامْرَأَتِهِli-im'ra-atihito his wifeأَكْرِمِيakrimīMake comfortableمَثْوَاهُmathwāhuhis stayعَسَىʿasāPerhapsأَنْanthatيَنْفَعَنَاyanfaʿanā(he) will benefit usأَوْaworنَتَّخِذَهُnattakhidhahuwe will take himوَلَدًاwaladan(as) a sonوَكَذَلِكَwakadhālikaAnd thusمَكَّنَّاmakkannāWe establishedلِيُوسُفَliyūsufaYusufفِيinالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe landوَلِنُعَلِّمَهُwalinuʿallimahuthat We might teach himمِنْmin(the) interpretation ofتَأْوِيلِtawīli(the) interpretation ofالْأَحَادِيثِl-aḥādīthithe eventsوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahغَالِبٌghālibun(is) PredominantعَلَىʿalāoverأَمْرِهِamrihiHis affairsوَلَكِنَّwalākinnabutأَكْثَرَaktharamostالنَّاسِl-nāsi(of) the peopleلَا(do) notيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknow
  22. 22وَلَمَّاwalammāAnd whenبَلَغَbalaghahe reachedأَشُدَّهُashuddahuhis maturityءَاتَيْنَاهُātaynāhuWe gave himحُكْمًاḥuk'manwisdomوَعِلْمًاwaʿil'manand knowledgeوَكَذَلِكَwakadhālikaAnd thusنَجْزِيnajzīWe rewardالْمُحْسِنِينَl-muḥ'sinīnathe good-doers
  23. 23وَرَاوَدَتْهُwarāwadathuAnd sought to seduce himالَّتِيallatīshe whoهُوَhuwahe (was)فِيinبَيْتِهَاbaytihāher houseعَنْʿanfromنَفْسِهِnafsihihis selfوَغَلَّقَتِwaghallaqatiAnd she closedالْأَبْوَابَl-abwābathe doorsوَقَالَتْwaqālatand she saidهَيْتَhaytaCome onلَكَlakayouقَالَqālaHe saidمَعَاذَmaʿādhaI seek refuge in Allahاللَّهِl-lahiI seek refuge in AllahإِنَّهُinnahuIndeed, heرَبِّيrabbī(is) my lordأَحْسَنَaḥsana(who has) made goodمَثْوَايَmathwāyamy stayإِنَّهُinnahuIndeedلَاnotيُفْلِحُyuf'liḥuwill succeedالظَّالِمُونَl-ẓālimūnathe wrongdoers
  24. 24وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainlyهَمَّتْhammatshe did desireبِهِbihihimوَهَمَّwahammaand he would have desiredبِهَاbihāherلَوْلَاlawlāif notأَنْanthatرَءَاraāhe sawبُرْهَانَbur'hānathe proofرَبِّهِrabbihi(of) his LordكَذَلِكَkadhālikaThusلِنَصْرِفَlinaṣrifathat We might avertعَنْهُʿanhufrom himالسُّوءَl-sūathe evilوَالْفَحْشَاءَwal-faḥshāaand the immoralityإِنَّهُinnahuIndeed heمِنْmin(was) ofعِبَادِنَاʿibādināOur slavesالْمُخْلَصِينَl-mukh'laṣīnathe sincere
  25. 25وَاسْتَبَقَاwa-is'tabaqāAnd they both racedالْبَابَl-bāba(to) the doorوَقَدَّتْwaqaddatand she toreقَمِيصَهُqamīṣahuhis shirtمِنْminfromدُبُرٍduburinthe backوَأَلْفَيَاwa-alfayāand they both foundسَيِّدَهَاsayyidahāher husbandلَدَاladāatالْبَابِl-bābithe doorقَالَتْqālatShe saidمَاWhatجَزَاءُjazāu(is) the recompenseمَنْman(of one) whoأَرَادَarādaintendedبِأَهْلِكَbi-ahlikafor your wifeسُوءًاsūanevilإِلَّاillāexceptأَنْanthatيُسْجَنَyus'janahe be imprisonedأَوْaworعَذَابٌʿadhābuna punishmentأَلِيمٌalīmunpainful
  26. 26قَالَqālaHe saidهِيَhiyaSheرَاوَدَتْنِيrāwadatnīsought to seduce meعَنْʿanaboutنَفْسِيnafsīmyselfوَشَهِدَwashahidaAnd testifiedشَاهِدٌshāhiduna witnessمِنْminofأَهْلِهَاahlihāher familyإِنْinIfكَانَkāna[is]قَمِيصُهُqamīṣuhuhis shirtقُدَّqudda(is) tornمِنْminfromقُبُلٍqubulinthe frontفَصَدَقَتْfaṣadaqatthen she has spoken the truthوَهُوَwahuwaand heمِنَmina(is) ofالْكَاذِبِينَl-kādhibīnathe liars
  27. 27وَإِنْwa-inBut ifكَانَkāna[is]قَمِيصُهُqamīṣuhuhis shirtقُدَّqudda(is) tornمِنْminfromدُبُرٍduburin(the) backفَكَذَبَتْfakadhabatthen she has liedوَهُوَwahuwaand heمِنَmina(is) ofالصَّادِقِينَl-ṣādiqīnathe truthful
  28. 28فَلَمَّاfalammāSo whenرَءَاraāhe sawقَمِيصَهُqamīṣahuhis shirtقُدَّquddatornمِنْminfromدُبُرٍduburin(the) backقَالَqālahe saidإِنَّهُinnahuIndeed itمِنْmin(is) ofكَيْدِكُنَّkaydikunnayour plotإِنَّinnaIndeedكَيْدَكُنَّkaydakunnayour plotعَظِيمٌʿaẓīmun(is) great
  29. 29يُوسُفُyūsufuYusufأَعْرِضْaʿriḍturn awayعَنْʿanfromهَذَاhādhāthisوَاسْتَغْفِرِيwa-is'taghfirīAnd ask forgivenessلِذَنْبِكِlidhanbikifor your sinإِنَّكِinnakiIndeed youكُنْتِkuntiareمِنَminaofالْخَاطِءِينَl-khāṭiīnathe sinful
  30. 30وَقَالَwaqālaAnd saidنِسْوَةٌnis'watunwomenفِيinالْمَدِينَةِl-madīnatithe cityامْرَأَتُim'ra-atuThe wife ofالْعَزِيزِl-ʿazīziAzizتُرَاوِدُturāwidu(is) seeking to seduceفَتَاهَاfatāhāher slave boyعَنْʿanaboutنَفْسِهِnafsihihimselfقَدْqadindeedشَغَفَهَاshaghafahāhe has impassioned herحُبًّاḥubban(with) loveإِنَّاinnāIndeed weلَنَرَاهَاlanarāhā[we] surely see herفِيinضَلَالٍḍalālinan errorمُبِينٍmubīninclear
  31. 31فَلَمَّاfalammāSo whenسَمِعَتْsamiʿatshe heardبِمَكْرِهِنَّbimakrihinnaof their schemingأَرْسَلَتْarsalatshe sentإِلَيْهِنَّilayhinnafor themوَأَعْتَدَتْwa-aʿtadatand she preparedلَهُنَّlahunnafor themمُتَّكَءًاmuttaka-ana banquetوَءَاتَتْwaātatand she gaveكُلَّkullaeachوَاحِدَةٍwāḥidatinoneمِنْهُنَّmin'hunnaof themسِكِّينًاsikkīnana knifeوَقَالَتِwaqālatiand she saidاخْرُجْukh'rujCome outعَلَيْهِنَّʿalayhinnabefore themفَلَمَّاfalammāThen whenرَأَيْنَهُra-aynahuthey saw himأَكْبَرْنَهُakbarnahuthey greatly admired himوَقَطَّعْنَwaqaṭṭaʿnaand cutأَيْدِيَهُنَّaydiyahunnatheir handsوَقُلْنَwaqul'nathey saidحَاشَḥāshaForbidلِلَّهِlillahiAllahمَاnotهَذَاhādhā(is) thisبَشَرًاbasharana manإِنْinnotهَذَاhādhā(is) thisإِلَّاillābutمَلَكٌmalakunan angelكَرِيمٌkarīmunnoble
  32. 32قَالَتْqālatShe saidفَذَلِكُنَّfadhālikunnaThatالَّذِيalladhī(is) the oneلُمْتُنَّنِيlum'tunnanīyou blamed meفِيهِfīhiabout himوَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainlyرَاوَدْتُهُrāwadttuhuI sought to seduce himعَنْʿan[from]نَفْسِهِnafsihi[himself]فَاسْتَعْصَمَfa-is'taʿṣamabut he saved himselfوَلَئِنْwala-inand ifلَمْlamnotيَفْعَلْyafʿalhe doesمَاwhatءَامُرُهُāmuruhuI order himلَيُسْجَنَنَّlayus'janannasurely he will be imprisonedوَلَيَكُونًاwalayakūnanand certainly will beمِنَminaofالصَّاغِرِينَl-ṣāghirīnathose who are disgraced
  33. 33قَالَqālaHe saidرَبِّrabbiMy Lordالسِّجْنُl-sij'nuthe prisonأَحَبُّaḥabbu(is) dearerإِلَيَّilayyato meمِمَّاmimmāthan whatيَدْعُونَنِيyadʿūnanīthey invite meإِلَيْهِilayhito itوَإِلَّاwa-illāAnd unlessتَصْرِفْtaṣrifYou turn awayعَنِّيʿannīfrom meكَيْدَهُنَّkaydahunnatheir plotأَصْبُaṣbuI might inclineإِلَيْهِنَّilayhinnatowards themوَأَكُنْwa-akunand [I] beمِنَminaofالْجَاهِلِينَl-jāhilīnathe ignorant
  34. 34فَاسْتَجَابَfa-is'tajābaSo respondedلَهُlahuto himرَبُّهُrabbuhuhis Lordفَصَرَفَfaṣarafaand turned awayعَنْهُʿanhufrom himكَيْدَهُنَّkaydahunnatheir plotإِنَّهُinnahuIndeed [He]هُوَhuwaHeالسَّمِيعُl-samīʿu(is) All-Hearerالْعَلِيمُl-ʿalīmuAll-Knower
  35. 35ثُمَّthummaThenبَدَاbadā(it) appearedلَهُمْlahumto themمِنْminafterبَعْدِbaʿdiafterمَا[what]رَأَوُاra-awūthey had seenالْءَايَاتِl-āyātithe signsلَيَسْجُنُنَّهُlayasjununnahusurely they should imprison himحَتَّىḥattāuntilحِينٍḥīnina time
  36. 36وَدَخَلَwadakhalaAnd enteredمَعَهُmaʿahuwith himالسِّجْنَl-sij'na(in) the prisonفَتَيَانِfatayānitwo young menقَالَqālaSaidأَحَدُهُمَاaḥaduhumāone of themإِنِّيinnīIndeed Iأَرَانِيarānī[I] see myselfأَعْصِرُaʿṣirupressingخَمْرًاkhamranwineوَقَالَwaqālaAnd saidالْءَاخَرُl-ākharuthe otherإِنِّيinnīIndeed Iأَرَانِيarānī[I] see myselfأَحْمِلُaḥmilu[I am] carryingفَوْقَfawqaoverرَأْسِيrasīmy headخُبْزًاkhub'zanbreadتَأْكُلُtakulu(were) eatingالطَّيْرُl-ṭayruthe birdsمِنْهُmin'hufrom itنَبِّئْنَاnabbi'nāInform usبِتَأْوِيلِهِbitawīlihiof its interpretationإِنَّاinnāindeed weنَرَاكَnarāka[we] see youمِنَminaofالْمُحْسِنِينَl-muḥ'sinīnathe good-doers
  37. 37قَالَqālaHe saidلَاNotيَأْتِيكُمَاyatīkumā(will) come to both of youطَعَامٌṭaʿāmunfoodتُرْزَقَانِهِtur'zaqānihiyou are provided withإِلَّاillābutنَبَّأْتُكُمَاnabbatukumāI will inform both of youبِتَأْوِيلِهِbitawīlihiof its interpretationقَبْلَqablabeforeأَنْan[that]يَأْتِيَكُمَاyatiyakumā[it] comes to both of youذَلِكُمَاdhālikumāThatمِمَّاmimmā(is) of whatعَلَّمَنِيʿallamanīhas taught meرَبِّيrabbīmy LordإِنِّيinnīIndeed Iتَرَكْتُtaraktu[I] abandonمِلَّةَmillata(the) religionقَوْمٍqawmin(of) a peopleلَاnotيُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnathey believeبِاللَّهِbil-lahiin Allahوَهُمْwahumand theyبِالْءَاخِرَةِbil-ākhiratiin the Hereafterهُمْhum[they]كَافِرُونَkāfirūna(are) disbelievers
  38. 38وَاتَّبَعْتُwa-ittabaʿtuAnd I followمِلَّةَmillata(the) religionءَابَاءِيābāī(of) my forefathersإِبْرَاهِيمَib'rāhīmaIbrahimوَإِسْحَاقَwa-is'ḥāqaand Ishaqوَيَعْقُوبَwayaʿqūbaand YaqubمَاNotكَانَkānawasلَنَاlanāfor usأَنْanthatنُشْرِكَnush'rikawe associateبِاللَّهِbil-lahiwith AllahمِنْminanyشَيْءٍshayinthingذَلِكَdhālikaThatمِنْmin(is) fromفَضْلِfaḍli(the) Graceاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahعَلَيْنَاʿalaynāupon usوَعَلَىwaʿalāand uponالنَّاسِl-nāsithe mankindوَلَكِنَّwalākinnabutأَكْثَرَaktharamostالنَّاسِl-nāsi(of) the menلَا(are) notيَشْكُرُونَyashkurūnagrateful
  39. 39يَاصَاحِبَيِyāṣāḥibayiO my two companionsالسِّجْنِl-sij'ni(of) the prison!ءَأَرْبَابٌa-arbābunAre lordsمُتَفَرِّقُونَmutafarriqūnaseparateخَيْرٌkhayrunbetterأَمِamiorاللَّهُl-lahuAllahالْوَاحِدُl-wāḥiduthe Oneالْقَهَّارُl-qahāruthe Irresistible
  40. 40مَاNotتَعْبُدُونَtaʿbudūnayou worshipمِنْminbesides Himدُونِهِdūnihibesides Himإِلَّاillābutأَسْمَاءًasmāannamesسَمَّيْتُمُوهَاsammaytumūhāwhich you have named themأَنْتُمْantumyouوَءَابَاؤُكُمْwaābāukumand your forefathersمَاnotأَنْزَلَanzala(has) sent downاللَّهُl-lahuAllahبِهَاbihāfor itمِنْminanyسُلْطَانٍsul'ṭāninauthorityإِنِiniNotالْحُكْمُl-ḥuk'mu(is) the commandإِلَّاillābutلِلَّهِlillahifor AllahأَمَرَamaraHe has commandedأَلَّاallāthat notتَعْبُدُواtaʿbudūyou worshipإِلَّاillābutإِيَّاهُiyyāhuHim AloneذَلِكَdhālikaThatالدِّينُl-dīnu(is) the religionالْقَيِّمُl-qayimuthe rightوَلَكِنَّwalākinnabutأَكْثَرَaktharamostالنَّاسِl-nāsi[the] menلَا(do) notيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknow
  41. 41يَاصَاحِبَيِyāṣāḥibayiO my two companionsالسِّجْنِl-sij'ni(of) the prisonأَمَّاammāAs forأَحَدُكُمَاaḥadukumāone of youفَيَسْقِيfayasqīhe will give drinkرَبَّهُrabbahu(to) his masterخَمْرًاkhamranwineوَأَمَّاwa-ammāand as forالْءَاخَرُl-ākharuthe otherفَيُصْلَبُfayuṣ'labuhe will be crucifiedفَتَأْكُلُfatakuluand will eatالطَّيْرُl-ṭayruthe birdsمِنْminfromرَأْسِهِrasihihis headقُضِيَquḍiyaHas been decreedالْأَمْرُl-amruthe matterالَّذِيalladhīabout whichفِيهِfīhiabout whichتَسْتَفْتِيَانِtastaftiyāniyou both inquire
  42. 42وَقَالَwaqālaAnd he saidلِلَّذِيlilladhīto the one whomظَنَّẓannahe thoughtأَنَّهُannahuthat heنَاجٍnājin(would be) savedمِنْهُمَاmin'humāof both of themاذْكُرْنِيudh'kur'nīMention meعِنْدَʿindatoرَبِّكَrabbikayour masterفَأَنْسَاهُfa-ansāhuBut made him forgetالشَّيْطَانُl-shayṭānuthe Shaitaanذِكْرَdhik'ra(the) mentionرَبِّهِrabbihi(to) his masterفَلَبِثَfalabithaso he remainedفِيinالسِّجْنِl-sij'nithe prisonبِضْعَbiḍ'ʿaseveralسِنِينَsinīnayears
  43. 43وَقَالَwaqālaAnd saidالْمَلِكُl-malikuthe kingإِنِّيinnīIndeed Iأَرَىarā[I] have seenسَبْعَsabʿasevenبَقَرَاتٍbaqarātincowsسِمَانٍsimāninfatيَأْكُلُهُنَّyakuluhunnaeating themسَبْعٌsabʿunsevenعِجَافٌʿijāfunlean onesوَسَبْعَwasabʿaand sevenسُنْبُلَاتٍsunbulātinears (of corn)خُضْرٍkhuḍ'ringreenوَأُخَرَwa-ukharaand otherيَابِسَاتٍyābisātindryيَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāOالْمَلَأُl-mala-uchiefs!أَفْتُونِيaftūnīExplain to meفِيaboutرُءْيَايَru'yāyamy visionإِنْinifكُنْتُمْkuntumyou canلِلرُّءْيَاlilrru'yāof visionsتَعْبُرُونَtaʿburūnainterpret
  44. 44قَالُواqālūThey saidأَضْغَاثُaḍghāthuConfusedأَحْلَامٍaḥlāmindreamsوَمَاwamāand notنَحْنُnaḥnuweبِتَأْوِيلِbitawīli(are) in the interpretationالْأَحْلَامِl-aḥlāmi(of) the dreamsبِعَالِمِينَbiʿālimīnalearned
  45. 45وَقَالَwaqālaBut saidالَّذِيalladhīthe one whoنَجَاnajāwas savedمِنْهُمَاmin'humāof the twoوَادَّكَرَwa-iddakaraand rememberedبَعْدَbaʿdaafterأُمَّةٍummatina periodأَنَاanāIأُنَبِّئُكُمْunabbi-ukum[I] will inform youبِتَأْوِيلِهِbitawīlihiof its interpretationفَأَرْسِلُونِfa-arsilūniso send me forth
  46. 46يُوسُفُyūsufuYusufأَيُّهَاayyuhāOالصِّدِّيقُl-ṣidīquthe truthful one!أَفْتِنَاaftināExplain to usفِيaboutسَبْعِsabʿi(the) sevenبَقَرَاتٍbaqarātincowsسِمَانٍsimāninfatيَأْكُلُهُنَّyakuluhunnaeating themسَبْعٌsabʿunsevenعِجَافٌʿijāfunlean onesوَسَبْعِwasabʿiand sevenسُنْبُلَاتٍsunbulātinears (of corn)خُضْرٍkhuḍ'ringreenوَأُخَرَwa-ukharaand otherيَابِسَاتٍyābisātindryلَعَلِّيlaʿallīthat I mayأَرْجِعُarjiʿureturnإِلَىilātoالنَّاسِl-nāsithe peopleلَعَلَّهُمْlaʿallahumso that they mayيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknow
  47. 47قَالَqālaHe saidتَزْرَعُونَtazraʿūnaYou will sowسَبْعَsabʿa(for) sevenسِنِينَsinīnayearsدَأَبًاda-abanas usualفَمَاfamāand that whichحَصَدْتُمْḥaṣadttumyou reapفَذَرُوهُfadharūhuso leave itفِيinسُنْبُلِهِsunbulihiits earsإِلَّاillāexceptقَلِيلًاqalīlana littleمِمَّاmimmāfrom whichتَأْكُلُونَtakulūnayou (will) eat
  48. 48ثُمَّthummaThenيَأْتِيyatīwill comeمِنْminafterبَعْدِbaʿdiafterذَلِكَdhālikathatسَبْعٌsabʿunsevenشِدَادٌshidādunhard (years)يَأْكُلْنَyakul'na(which will) consumeمَاwhatقَدَّمْتُمْqaddamtumyou advancedلَهُنَّlahunnafor themإِلَّاillāexceptقَلِيلًاqalīlana littleمِمَّاmimmāof whatتُحْصِنُونَtuḥ'ṣinūnayou (will) store
  49. 49ثُمَّthummaThenيَأْتِيyatīwill comeمِنْminafterبَعْدِbaʿdiafterذَلِكَdhālikathatعَامٌʿāmuna yearفِيهِfīhiin itيُغَاثُyughāthuwill be given abundant rainالنَّاسُl-nāsuthe peopleوَفِيهِwafīhiand in itيَعْصِرُونَyaʿṣirūnathey will press
  50. 50وَقَالَwaqālaAnd saidالْمَلِكُl-malikuthe kingائْتُونِيi'tūnīBring him to meبِهِbihiBring him to meفَلَمَّاfalammāBut whenجَاءَهُjāahucame to himالرَّسُولُl-rasūluthe messengerقَالَqālahe saidارْجِعْir'jiʿReturnإِلَىilātoرَبِّكَrabbikayour lordفَسْءَلْهُfasalhuand ask himمَاwhatبَالُbālu(is the) caseالنِّسْوَةِl-nis'wati(of) the womenاللَّاتِيallātīwhoقَطَّعْنَqaṭṭaʿnacutأَيْدِيَهُنَّaydiyahunnatheir handsإِنَّinnaIndeedرَبِّيrabbīmy Lordبِكَيْدِهِنَّbikaydihinnaof their plotعَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) All-Knower
  51. 51قَالَqālaHe saidمَاWhatخَطْبُكُنَّkhaṭbukunna(was) your affairإِذْidhwhenرَاوَدْتُنَّrāwadttunnayou sought to seduceيُوسُفَyūsufaYusufعَنْʿanfromنَفْسِهِnafsihihimselfقُلْنَqul'naThey saidحَاشَḥāshaAllah forbidلِلَّهِlillahiAllah forbidمَاNotعَلِمْنَاʿalim'nāwe knowعَلَيْهِʿalayhiabout himمِنْminanyسُوءٍsūinevilقَالَتِqālatiSaidامْرَأَتُim'ra-atu(the) wifeالْعَزِيزِl-ʿazīzi(of) Azizالْءَانَl-ānaNowحَصْحَصَḥaṣḥaṣa(is) manifestالْحَقُّl-ḥaquthe truthأَنَاanāIرَاوَدْتُهُrāwadttuhusought to seduce himعَنْʿanfromنَفْسِهِnafsihihimselfوَإِنَّهُwa-innahuand indeed, heلَمِنَlamina(is) surely ofالصَّادِقِينَl-ṣādiqīnathe truthful
  52. 52ذَلِكَdhālikaThatلِيَعْلَمَliyaʿlamahe may knowأَنِّيannīthat Iلَمْlamnotأَخُنْهُakhun'hu[I] betray himبِالْغَيْبِbil-ghaybiin secretوَأَنَّwa-annaand thatاللَّهَl-lahaAllahلَا(does) notيَهْدِيyahdīguideكَيْدَkayda(the) planالْخَائِنِينَl-khāinīna(of) the betrayers
  53. 53وَمَاwamāAnd notأُبَرِّئُubarri-uI absolveنَفْسِيnafsīmyselfإِنَّinnaIndeedالنَّفْسَl-nafsathe soulلَأَمَّارَةٌla-ammāratun(is) a certain enjoinerبِالسُّوءِbil-sūiof evilإِلَّاillāunlessمَا[that]رَحِمَraḥimabestows Mercyرَبِّيrabbīmy LordإِنَّinnaIndeedرَبِّيrabbīmy Lordغَفُورٌghafūrun(is) Oft-ForgivingرَحِيمٌraḥīmunMost Merciful
  54. 54وَقَالَwaqālaAnd saidالْمَلِكُl-malikuthe kingائْتُونِيi'tūnīBring him to meبِهِbihiBring him to meأَسْتَخْلِصْهُastakhliṣ'huI will select himلِنَفْسِيlinafsīfor myselfفَلَمَّاfalammāThen whenكَلَّمَهُkallamahuhe spoke to himقَالَqālahe saidإِنَّكَinnakaIndeed, youالْيَوْمَl-yawma(are) todayلَدَيْنَاladaynāwith usمَكِينٌmakīnunfirmly establishedأَمِينٌamīnun(and) trusted
  55. 55قَالَqālaHe saidاجْعَلْنِيij'ʿalnīAppoint meعَلَىʿalāoverخَزَائِنِkhazāini(the) treasuriesالْأَرْضِl-arḍi(of) the landإِنِّيinnīIndeed Iحَفِيظٌḥafīẓun(will be) a guardianعَلِيمٌʿalīmunknowing
  56. 56وَكَذَلِكَwakadhālikaAnd thusمَكَّنَّاmakkannāWe establishedلِيُوسُفَliyūsufa[to] Yusufفِيinالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe landيَتَبَوَّأُyatabawwa-uto settleمِنْهَاmin'hāthereinحَيْثُḥaythuwhere everيَشَاءُyashāuhe willedنُصِيبُnuṣībuWe bestowبِرَحْمَتِنَاbiraḥmatināOur Mercyمَنْman(on) whomنَشَاءُnashāuWe willوَلَاwalāAnd notنُضِيعُnuḍīʿuWe let go wasteأَجْرَajra(the) rewardالْمُحْسِنِينَl-muḥ'sinīna(of) the good-doers
  57. 57وَلَأَجْرُwala-ajruAnd surely (the) rewardالْءَاخِرَةِl-ākhirati(of) the Hereafterخَيْرٌkhayrun(is) betterلِلَّذِينَlilladhīnafor those whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveوَكَانُواwakānūand areيَتَّقُونَyattaqūnaGod conscious
  58. 58وَجَاءَwajāaAnd cameإِخْوَةُikh'watu(the) brothersيُوسُفَyūsufa(of) Yusufفَدَخَلُواfadakhalūand they enteredعَلَيْهِʿalayhiupon himفَعَرَفَهُمْfaʿarafahumand he recognized themوَهُمْwahumbut theyلَهُlahuknew him notمُنْكِرُونَmunkirūnaknew him not
  59. 59وَلَمَّاwalammāAnd whenجَهَّزَهُمْjahhazahumhe had furnished themبِجَهَازِهِمْbijahāzihimwith their suppliesقَالَqālahe saidائْتُونِيi'tūnīBring to meبِأَخٍbi-akhina brotherلَكُمْlakumof yoursمِنْminfromأَبِيكُمْabīkumyour fatherأَلَاalāDo notتَرَوْنَtarawnayou seeأَنِّيannīthat Iأُوفِيūfī[I] give fullالْكَيْلَl-kayla[the] measureوَأَنَاwa-anāand that I amخَيْرُkhayru(the) bestالْمُنْزِلِينَl-munzilīna(of) the hosts
  60. 60فَإِنْfa-inBut ifلَمْlamnotتَأْتُونِيtatūnīyou bring him to meبِهِbihiyou bring him to meفَلَاfalāthen (there will be) noكَيْلَkaylameasureلَكُمْlakumfor youعِنْدِيʿindīfrom meوَلَاwalāand notتَقْرَبُونِtaqrabūniyou will come near me
  61. 61قَالُواqālūThey saidسَنُرَاوِدُsanurāwiduWe will try to get permissionعَنْهُʿanhufor himأَبَاهُabāhu(from) his fatherوَإِنَّاwa-innāand indeed weلَفَاعِلُونَlafāʿilūnasurely will do
  62. 62وَقَالَwaqālaAnd he saidلِفِتْيَانِهِlifit'yānihito his servantsاجْعَلُواij'ʿalūPutبِضَاعَتَهُمْbiḍāʿatahumtheir merchandiseفِيinرِحَالِهِمْriḥālihimtheir saddlebagsلَعَلَّهُمْlaʿallahumso that theyيَعْرِفُونَهَاyaʿrifūnahāmay recognize itإِذَاidhāwhenانْقَلَبُواinqalabūthey go backإِلَىilātoأَهْلِهِمْahlihimtheir peopleلَعَلَّهُمْlaʿallahumso that they mayيَرْجِعُونَyarjiʿūnareturn
  63. 63فَلَمَّاfalammāSo whenرَجَعُواrajaʿūthey returnedإِلَىilātoأَبِيهِمْabīhimtheir fatherقَالُواqālūthey saidيَاأَبَانَاyāabānāO our father!مُنِعَmuniʿaHas been deniedمِنَّاminnāto usالْكَيْلُl-kayluthe measureفَأَرْسِلْfa-arsilso sendمَعَنَاmaʿanāwith usأَخَانَاakhānāour brotherنَكْتَلْnaktal(that) we will get measureوَإِنَّاwa-innāAnd indeed weلَهُlahufor himلَحَافِظُونَlaḥāfiẓūna(will) surely (be) guardians
  64. 64قَالَqālaHe saidهَلْhalShouldءَامَنُكُمْāmanukumI entrust youعَلَيْهِʿalayhiwith himإِلَّاillāexceptكَمَاkamāasأَمِنْتُكُمْamintukumI entrusted youعَلَىʿalāwithأَخِيهِakhīhihis brotherمِنْminbeforeقَبْلُqablubeforeفَاللَّهُfal-lahuBut Allahخَيْرٌkhayrun(is) the bestحَافِظًاḥāfiẓanGuardianوَهُوَwahuwaand Heأَرْحَمُarḥamu(is the) Most Mercifulالرَّاحِمِينَl-rāḥimīna(of) the merciful
  65. 65وَلَمَّاwalammāAnd whenفَتَحُواfataḥūthey openedمَتَاعَهُمْmatāʿahumtheir baggageوَجَدُواwajadūthey foundبِضَاعَتَهُمْbiḍāʿatahumtheir merchandiseرُدَّتْruddatreturnedإِلَيْهِمْilayhimto themقَالُواqālūThey saidيَاأَبَانَاyāabānāO our father!مَاWhatنَبْغِيnabghī(could) we desireهَذِهِhādhihiThisبِضَاعَتُنَاbiḍāʿatunā(is) our merchandiseرُدَّتْruddatreturnedإِلَيْنَاilaynāto usوَنَمِيرُwanamīruAnd we will get provisionأَهْلَنَاahlanā(for) our familyوَنَحْفَظُwanaḥfaẓuand we will protectأَخَانَاakhānāour brotherوَنَزْدَادُwanazdāduand get an increaseكَيْلَkaylameasureبَعِيرٍbaʿīrin(of) a camel's (load)ذَلِكَdhālikaThatكَيْلٌkaylun(is) a measurementيَسِيرٌyasīruneasy
  66. 66قَالَqālaHe saidلَنْlanNeverأُرْسِلَهُur'silahuwill I send himمَعَكُمْmaʿakumwith youحَتَّىḥattāuntilتُؤْتُونِtu'tūniyou give to meمَوْثِقًاmawthiqana promiseمِنَminabyاللَّهِl-lahiAllahلَتَأْتُنَّنِيlatatunnanīthat surely you will bring him to meبِهِbihithat surely you will bring him to meإِلَّاillāunlessأَنْanthatيُحَاطَyuḥāṭayou are surroundedبِكُمْbikumyou are surroundedفَلَمَّاfalammāAnd whenءَاتَوْهُātawhuthey had given himمَوْثِقَهُمْmawthiqahumtheir promiseقَالَqālahe saidاللَّهُl-lahuAllahعَلَىʿalāoverمَاwhatنَقُولُnaqūluwe sayوَكِيلٌwakīlun(is) a Guardian
  67. 67وَقَالَwaqālaAnd he saidيَابَنِيَّyābaniyyaO my sonsلَا(Do) notتَدْخُلُواtadkhulūenterمِنْminfromبَابٍbābinone gateوَاحِدٍwāḥidinone gateوَادْخُلُواwa-ud'khulūbut enterمِنْminfromأَبْوَابٍabwābingatesمُتَفَرِّقَةٍmutafarriqatindifferentوَمَاwamāAnd notأُغْنِيugh'nīI can availعَنْكُمْʿankumyouمِنَminaagainstاللَّهِl-lahiAllahمِنْminanyشَيْءٍshayinthingإِنِiniNotالْحُكْمُl-ḥuk'mu(is) the decisionإِلَّاillāexceptلِلَّهِlillahiwith Allahعَلَيْهِʿalayhiupon HimتَوَكَّلْتُtawakkaltuI put my trustوَعَلَيْهِwaʿalayhiand upon Himفَلْيَتَوَكَّلِfalyatawakkalilet put (their) trustالْمُتَوَكِّلُونَl-mutawakilūnathe ones who put trust
  68. 68وَلَمَّاwalammāAnd whenدَخَلُواdakhalūthey enteredمِنْminfromحَيْثُḥaythuwhereأَمَرَهُمْamarahumordered themأَبُوهُمْabūhumtheir fatherمَاnotكَانَkānaitيُغْنِيyugh'nīavail(ed)عَنْهُمْʿanhumthemمِنَminaagainstاللَّهِl-lahiAllahمِنْminanyشَيْءٍshayinthingإِلَّاillābutحَاجَةًḥājatan(it was) a needفِيofنَفْسِnafsi(Yaqub's) soulيَعْقُوبَyaʿqūbaYaqub's (soul)قَضَاهَاqaḍāhāwhich he carried outوَإِنَّهُwa-innahuAnd indeed, heلَذُوladhū(was) a possessorعِلْمٍʿil'min(of) knowledgeلِمَاlimābecauseعَلَّمْنَاهُʿallamnāhuWe had taught himوَلَكِنَّwalākinnabutأَكْثَرَaktharamostالنَّاسِl-nāsi(of) the peopleلَا(do) notيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknow
  69. 69وَلَمَّاwalammāAnd whenدَخَلُواdakhalūthey enteredعَلَىʿalāuponيُوسُفَyūsufaYusufءَاوَىāwāhe tookإِلَيْهِilayhito himselfأَخَاهُakhāhuhis brotherقَالَqālaHe saidإِنِّيinnīIndeed Iأَنَاanā[I] amأَخُوكَakhūkayour brotherفَلَاfalāso (do) notتَبْتَئِسْtabta-isgrieveبِمَاbimāfor whatكَانُواkānūthey used (to)يَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūnado
  70. 70فَلَمَّاfalammāSo whenجَهَّزَهُمْjahhazahumhe had furnished themبِجَهَازِهِمْbijahāzihimwith their suppliesجَعَلَjaʿalahe putالسِّقَايَةَl-siqāyatathe drinking cupفِيinرَحْلِraḥlithe bagأَخِيهِakhīhi(of) his brotherثُمَّthummaThenأَذَّنَadhanacalled outمُؤَذِّنٌmu-adhinunan announcerأَيَّتُهَاayyatuhāO youالْعِيرُl-ʿīru(in) the caravan!إِنَّكُمْinnakumIndeed youلَسَارِقُونَlasāriqūnasurely (are) thieves
  71. 71قَالُواqālūThey saidوَأَقْبَلُواwa-aqbalūturning towardsعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimthemمَاذَاmādhāWhat (is it)تَفْقِدُونَtafqidūnayou miss
  72. 72قَالُواqālūThey saidنَفْقِدُnafqiduWe are missingصُوَاعَṣuwāʿa(the) cupالْمَلِكِl-maliki(of) the kingوَلِمَنْwalimanAnd for (one) whoجَاءَjāabringsبِهِbihiitحِمْلُḥim'lu(is) a loadبَعِيرٍbaʿīrin(of) a camelوَأَنَاwa-anāand Iبِهِbihifor itزَعِيمٌzaʿīmun(is) responsible
  73. 73قَالُواqālūThey saidتَاللَّهِtal-lahiBy Allahلَقَدْlaqadcertainlyعَلِمْتُمْʿalim'tumyou knowمَاnotجِئْنَاji'nāwe cameلِنُفْسِدَlinuf'sidathat we cause corruptionفِيinالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe landوَمَاwamāand notكُنَّاkunnāwe areسَارِقِينَsāriqīnathieves
  74. 74قَالُواqālūThey saidفَمَاfamāThen whatجَزَاؤُهُjazāuhu(will be the) recompense (of) itإِنْinifكُنْتُمْkuntumyou areكَاذِبِينَkādhibīnaliars
  75. 75قَالُواqālūThey saidجَزَاؤُهُjazāuhuIts recompenseمَنْman(is that one) whoوُجِدَwujidait is foundفِيinرَحْلِهِraḥlihihis bagفَهُوَfahuwathen heجَزَاؤُهُjazāuhu(will be) his recompenseكَذَلِكَkadhālikaThusنَجْزِيnajzī(do) we recompenseالظَّالِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers
  76. 76فَبَدَأَfabada-aSo he beganبِأَوْعِيَتِهِمْbi-awʿiyatihimwith their bagsقَبْلَqablabeforeوِعَاءِwiʿāi(the) bagأَخِيهِakhīhi(of) his brotherثُمَّthummathenاسْتَخْرَجَهَاis'takhrajahāhe brought it outمِنْminfromوِعَاءِwiʿāi(the) bagأَخِيهِakhīhi(of) his brotherكَذَلِكَkadhālikaThusكِدْنَاkid'nā(did) We planلِيُوسُفَliyūsufafor YusufمَاHe could notكَانَkānaHe could notلِيَأْخُذَliyakhudhatakeأَخَاهُakhāhuhis brotherفِيbyدِينِdīnithe lawالْمَلِكِl-maliki(of) the kingإِلَّاillāexceptأَنْanthatيَشَاءَyashāaAllah willedاللَّهُl-lahuAllah willedنَرْفَعُnarfaʿuWe raiseدَرَجَاتٍdarajātin(in) degreesمَنْmanwhomنَشَاءُnashāuWe willوَفَوْقَwafawqabut overكُلِّkullieveryذِيdhīpossessorعِلْمٍʿil'min(of) knowledgeعَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) the All-Knower
  77. 77قَالُواqālūThey saidإِنْinIfيَسْرِقْyasriqhe stealsفَقَدْfaqadthen verilyسَرَقَsaraqastoleأَخٌakhuna brotherلَهُlahuof hisمِنْminbeforeقَبْلُqablubeforeفَأَسَرَّهَاfa-asarrahāBut Yusuf kept it secretيُوسُفُyūsufuBut Yusuf kept it secretفِيwithinنَفْسِهِnafsihihimselfوَلَمْwalamand (did) notيُبْدِهَاyub'dihāreveal itلَهُمْlahumto themقَالَqālaHe saidأَنْتُمْantumYouشَرٌّsharrun(are the) worseمَكَانًاmakānan(in) positionوَاللَّهُwal-lahuand Allahأَعْلَمُaʿlamuknows bestبِمَاbimāof whatتَصِفُونَtaṣifūnayou describe
  78. 78قَالُواqālūThey saidيَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāOالْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzuAziz!إِنَّinnaIndeedلَهُlahuhe hasأَبًاabana fatherشَيْخًاshaykhanoldكَبِيرًاkabīran[great]فَخُذْfakhudhso takeأَحَدَنَاaḥadanāone of usمَكَانَهُmakānahu(in) his placeإِنَّاinnāIndeed weنَرَاكَnarāka[we] see youمِنَminaofالْمُحْسِنِينَl-muḥ'sinīnathe good-doers
  79. 79قَالَqālaHe saidمَعَاذَmaʿādhaAllah forbidاللَّهِl-lahiAllah forbidأَنْanthatنَأْخُذَnakhudhawe takeإِلَّاillāexceptمَنْman(one) whoوَجَدْنَاwajadnāwe foundمَتَاعَنَاmatāʿanāour possessionعِنْدَهُʿindahuwith himإِنَّاinnāIndeed, weإِذًاidhanthenلَظَالِمُونَlaẓālimūnasurely (would be) wrongdoers
  80. 80فَلَمَّاfalammāSo whenاسْتَيْئَسُواis'tayasūthey despairedمِنْهُmin'huof himخَلَصُواkhalaṣūthey secluded themselvesنَجِيًّاnajiyyan(in) private consultationقَالَqālaSaidكَبِيرُهُمْkabīruhumthe eldest among themأَلَمْalamDo notتَعْلَمُواtaʿlamūyou knowأَنَّannathatأَبَاكُمْabākumyour fatherقَدْqadhas takenأَخَذَakhadhahas takenعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumupon youمَوْثِقًاmawthiqana promiseمِنَminabyاللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَمِنْwaminand beforeقَبْلُqabluand beforeمَاthatفَرَّطْتُمْfarraṭtumyou failedفِيconcerningيُوسُفَyūsufaYusufفَلَنْfalanSo neverأَبْرَحَabraḥawill I leaveالْأَرْضَl-arḍathe landحَتَّىḥattāuntilيَأْذَنَyadhanapermitsلِيmeأَبِيabīmy fatherأَوْaworيَحْكُمَyaḥkumaAllah decidesاللَّهُl-lahuAllah decidesلِيfor meوَهُوَwahuwaand Heخَيْرُkhayru(is) the Bestالْحَاكِمِينَl-ḥākimīna(of) the judges
  81. 81ارْجِعُواir'jiʿūReturnإِلَىilātoأَبِيكُمْabīkumyour fatherفَقُولُواfaqūlūand sayيَاأَبَانَاyāabānāO our father!إِنَّinnaIndeedابْنَكَib'nakayour sonسَرَقَsaraqahas stolenوَمَاwamāand notشَهِدْنَاshahid'nāwe testifyإِلَّاillāexceptبِمَاbimāof whatعَلِمْنَاʿalim'nāwe knewوَمَاwamāAnd notكُنَّاkunnāwe wereلِلْغَيْبِlil'ghaybiof the unseenحَافِظِينَḥāfiẓīnaguardians
  82. 82وَسْءَلِwasaliAnd askالْقَرْيَةَl-qaryatathe townالَّتِيallatīwhereكُنَّاkunnāwe wereفِيهَاfīhā[in it]وَالْعِيرَwal-ʿīraand the caravanالَّتِيallatīwhichأَقْبَلْنَاaqbalnāwe returnedفِيهَاfīhā[in it]وَإِنَّاwa-innāAnd indeed weلَصَادِقُونَlaṣādiqūnasurely (are) truthful
  83. 83قَالَqālaHe saidبَلْbalNayسَوَّلَتْsawwalathave enticedلَكُمْlakumyouأَنْفُسُكُمْanfusukumyour soulsأَمْرًاamransomethingفَصَبْرٌfaṣabrunso patienceجَمِيلٌjamīlun(is) beautifulعَسَىʿasāPerhapsاللَّهُl-lahuAllahأَنْanwill bring them to meيَأْتِيَنِيyatiyanīwill bring them to meبِهِمْbihimwill bring them to meجَمِيعًاjamīʿanallإِنَّهُinnahuIndeed, HeهُوَhuwaHeالْعَلِيمُl-ʿalīmu(is) the All-Knowerالْحَكِيمُl-ḥakīmuAll-Wise
  84. 84وَتَوَلَّىwatawallāAnd he turned awayعَنْهُمْʿanhumfrom themوَقَالَwaqālaand saidيَاأَسَفَىyāasafāAlas my griefعَلَىʿalāoverيُوسُفَyūsufaYusuf!وَابْيَضَّتْwa-ib'yaḍḍatAnd became whiteعَيْنَاهُʿaynāhuhis eyesمِنَminafromالْحُزْنِl-ḥuz'nithe griefفَهُوَfahuwaand he (was)كَظِيمٌkaẓīmuna suppressor
  85. 85قَالُواqālūThey saidتَاللَّهِtal-lahiBy Allahتَفْتَؤُاtafta-uyou will not ceaseتَذْكُرُtadhkururememberingيُوسُفَyūsufaYusufحَتَّىḥattāuntilتَكُونَtakūnayou becomeحَرَضًاḥaraḍanfatally illأَوْaworتَكُونَtakūnabecomeمِنَminaofالْهَالِكِينَl-hālikīnathose who perish
  86. 86قَالَqālaHe saidإِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyأَشْكُواashkūI complainبَثِّيbathī(of) my sufferingوَحُزْنِيwaḥuz'nīand my griefإِلَىilātoاللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَأَعْلَمُwa-aʿlamuand I knowمِنَminafromاللَّهِl-lahiAllahمَاwhatلَاnotتَعْلَمُونَtaʿlamūnayou know
  87. 87يَابَنِيَّyābaniyyaO my sonsاذْهَبُواidh'habūGoفَتَحَسَّسُواfataḥassasūand inquireمِنْminaboutيُوسُفَyūsufaYusufوَأَخِيهِwa-akhīhiand his brotherوَلَاwalāand notتَايْءَسُواtāy'asūdespairمِنْminofرَوْحِrawḥi(the) Mercy of Allahاللَّهِl-lahi(the) Mercy of AllahإِنَّهُinnahuIndeedلَاnoneيَايْءَسُyāy'asudespairsمِنْminofرَوْحِrawḥi(the) Mercy of Allahاللَّهِl-lahi(the) Mercy of Allahإِلَّاillāexceptالْقَوْمُl-qawmuthe peopleالْكَافِرُونَl-kāfirūnathe disbelievers
  88. 88فَلَمَّاfalammāSo whenدَخَلُواdakhalūthey enteredعَلَيْهِʿalayhiupon himقَالُواqālūthey saidيَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO Azizالْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzuO AzizمَسَّنَاmassanāHas touched usوَأَهْلَنَاwa-ahlanāand our familyالضُّرُّl-ḍuruthe adversityوَجِئْنَاwaji'nāand we have comeبِبِضَاعَةٍbibiḍāʿatinwith goodsمُزْجَاةٍmuz'jātin(of) little valueفَأَوْفِfa-awfibut pay (in) fullلَنَاlanāto usالْكَيْلَl-kaylathe measureوَتَصَدَّقْwataṣaddaqand be charitableعَلَيْنَاʿalaynāto usإِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahيَجْزِيyajzīrewardsالْمُتَصَدِّقِينَl-mutaṣadiqīnathe charitable
  89. 89قَالَqālaHe saidهَلْhalDoعَلِمْتُمْʿalim'tumyou knowمَاwhatفَعَلْتُمْfaʿaltumyou didبِيُوسُفَbiyūsufawith Yusufوَأَخِيهِwa-akhīhiand his brotherإِذْidhwhenأَنْتُمْantumyou wereجَاهِلُونَjāhilūnaignorant
  90. 90قَالُواqālūThey saidأَءِنَّكَa-innakaAre you indeedلَأَنْتَla-anta[surely you]يُوسُفُyūsufuYusufقَالَqālaHe saidأَنَاanāI amيُوسُفُyūsufuYusufوَهَذَاwahādhāand thisأَخِيakhī(is) my brotherقَدْqadIndeedمَنَّmannaAllah has been graciousاللَّهُl-lahuAllah has been graciousعَلَيْنَاʿalaynāto usإِنَّهُinnahuIndeed, heمَنْmanwhoيَتَّقِyattaqifears Allahوَيَصْبِرْwayaṣbirand (is) patientفَإِنَّfa-innathen indeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahلَا(does) notيُضِيعُyuḍīʿulet go wasteأَجْرَajra(the) rewardالْمُحْسِنِينَl-muḥ'sinīna(of) the good-doers
  91. 91قَالُواqālūThey saidتَاللَّهِtal-lahiBy AllahلَقَدْlaqadcertainlyءَاثَرَكَātharakaAllah has preferred youاللَّهُl-lahuAllah has preferred youعَلَيْنَاʿalaynāover usوَإِنْwa-inand indeedكُنَّاkunnāwe have beenلَخَاطِءِينَlakhāṭiīnasinners
  92. 92قَالَqālaHe saidلَاNoتَثْرِيبَtathrībablameعَلَيْكُمُʿalaykumuupon youالْيَوْمَl-yawmatodayيَغْفِرُyaghfiruAllah will forgiveاللَّهُl-lahuAllah will forgiveلَكُمْlakumyouوَهُوَwahuwaand Heأَرْحَمُarḥamu(is) the Most Mercifulالرَّاحِمِينَl-rāḥimīna(of) those who show mercy
  93. 93اذْهَبُواidh'habūGoبِقَمِيصِيbiqamīṣīwith this shirt of mineهَذَاhādhāwith this shirt of mineفَأَلْقُوهُfa-alqūhuand cast itعَلَىʿalāoverوَجْهِwajhi(the) faceأَبِيabī(of) my fatherيَأْتِyatihe will regain sightبَصِيرًاbaṣīranhe will regain sightوَأْتُونِيwatūnīAnd bring to meبِأَهْلِكُمْbi-ahlikumyour familyأَجْمَعِينَajmaʿīnaall together
  94. 94وَلَمَّاwalammāAnd whenفَصَلَتِfaṣalatidepartedالْعِيرُl-ʿīruthe caravanقَالَqālatheir father saidأَبُوهُمْabūhumtheir father saidإِنِّيinnīIndeed, Iلَأَجِدُla-ajidu[I] findرِيحَrīḥa(the) smellيُوسُفَyūsufa(of) Yusufلَوْلَاlawlāif notأَنْanthatتُفَنِّدُونِtufannidūniyou think me weakened in mind
  95. 95قَالُواqālūThey saidتَاللَّهِtal-lahiBy Allahإِنَّكَinnakaindeed youلَفِيlafīsurely (are) inضَلَالِكَḍalālikayour errorالْقَدِيمِl-qadīmiold
  96. 96فَلَمَّاfalammāThen whenأَنْan[that]جَاءَjāaarrivedالْبَشِيرُl-bashīruthe bearer of glad tidingsأَلْقَاهُalqāhuhe cast itعَلَىʿalāoverوَجْهِهِwajhihihis faceفَارْتَدَّfa-ir'taddathen returned (his) sightبَصِيرًاbaṣīranthen returned (his) sightقَالَqālaHe saidأَلَمْalamDid notأَقُلْaqulI sayلَكُمْlakumto youإِنِّيinnīindeed, Iأَعْلَمُaʿlamu[I] knowمِنَminafromاللَّهِl-lahiAllahمَاwhatلَاnotتَعْلَمُونَtaʿlamūnayou know
  97. 97قَالُواqālūThey saidيَاأَبَانَاyāabānāO our father!اسْتَغْفِرْis'taghfirAsk forgivenessلَنَاlanāfor usذُنُوبَنَاdhunūbanā(of) our sinsإِنَّاinnāIndeed weكُنَّاkunnāhave beenخَاطِءِينَkhāṭiīnasinners
  98. 98قَالَqālaHe saidسَوْفَsawfaSoonأَسْتَغْفِرُastaghfiruI will ask forgivenessلَكُمْlakumfor youرَبِّيrabbī(from) my LordإِنَّهُinnahuIndeed HeهُوَhuwaHeالْغَفُورُl-ghafūru(is) the Oft-Forgivingالرَّحِيمُl-raḥīmuthe Most Merciful
  99. 99فَلَمَّاfalammāThen whenدَخَلُواdakhalūthey enteredعَلَىʿalāuponيُوسُفَyūsufaYusufءَاوَىāwāhe tookإِلَيْهِilayhito himselfأَبَوَيْهِabawayhihis parentsوَقَالَwaqālaand saidادْخُلُواud'khulūEnterمِصْرَmiṣ'raEgyptإِنْinifشَاءَshāaAllah willsاللَّهُl-lahuAllah willsءَامِنِينَāminīnasafe
  100. 100وَرَفَعَwarafaʿaAnd he raisedأَبَوَيْهِabawayhihis parentsعَلَىʿalāuponالْعَرْشِl-ʿarshithe throneوَخَرُّواwakharrūand they fell downلَهُlahuto himسُجَّدًاsujjadanprostrateوَقَالَwaqālaAnd he saidيَاأَبَتِyāabatiO my fatherهَذَاhādhāThisتَأْوِيلُtawīlu(is the) interpretationرُءْيَايَru'yāya(of) my dreamمِنْmin(of) beforeقَبْلُqablu(of) beforeقَدْqadVerilyجَعَلَهَاjaʿalahāhas made itرَبِّيrabbīmy LordحَقًّاḥaqqantrueوَقَدْwaqadAnd indeedأَحْسَنَaḥsanaHe was goodبِيto meإِذْidhwhenأَخْرَجَنِيakhrajanīHe took me outمِنَminaofالسِّجْنِl-sij'nithe prisonوَجَاءَwajāaand broughtبِكُمْbikumyouمِنَminafromالْبَدْوِl-badwithe bedouin lifeمِنْminafterبَعْدِbaʿdiafterأَنْan[that]نَزَغَnazaghahad caused discordالشَّيْطَانُl-shayṭānuthe Shaitaanبَيْنِيbaynībetween meوَبَيْنَwabaynaand betweenإِخْوَتِيikh'watīmy brothersإِنَّinnaIndeedرَبِّيrabbīmy Lordلَطِيفٌlaṭīfun(is) Most Subtleلِمَاlimāto whatيَشَاءُyashāuHe willsإِنَّهُinnahuIndeed, HeهُوَhuwaHeالْعَلِيمُl-ʿalīmu(is) the All-Knowerالْحَكِيمُl-ḥakīmuthe All-Wise
  101. 101رَبِّrabbiMy Lordقَدْqadindeedءَاتَيْتَنِيātaytanīyou have given meمِنَminaofالْمُلْكِl-mul'kithe sovereigntyوَعَلَّمْتَنِيwaʿallamtanīand taught meمِنْminofتَأْوِيلِtawīlithe interpretationالْأَحَادِيثِl-aḥādīthiof the eventsفَاطِرَfāṭiraCreatorالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavensوَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthأَنْتَantaYouوَلِيِّيwaliyyī(are) my Protectorفِيinالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yāthe worldوَالْءَاخِرَةِwal-ākhiratiand the HereafterتَوَفَّنِيtawaffanīCause me to dieمُسْلِمًاmus'liman(as) a Muslimوَأَلْحِقْنِيwa-alḥiq'nīand join meبِالصَّالِحِينَbil-ṣāliḥīnawith the righteous
  102. 102ذَلِكَdhālikaThatمِنْmin(is) fromأَنْبَاءِanbāithe newsالْغَيْبِl-ghaybi(of) the unseenنُوحِيهِnūḥīhiwhich We revealإِلَيْكَilaykato youوَمَاwamāAnd notكُنْتَkuntayou wereلَدَيْهِمْladayhimwith themإِذْidhwhenأَجْمَعُواajmaʿūthey put togetherأَمْرَهُمْamrahumtheir planوَهُمْwahumwhile theyيَمْكُرُونَyamkurūna(were) plotting
  103. 103وَمَاwamāAnd notأَكْثَرُaktharumostالنَّاسِl-nāsi(of) the mankindوَلَوْwalaweven thoughحَرَصْتَḥaraṣtayou desireبِمُؤْمِنِينَbimu'minīna(will be) believers
  104. 104وَمَاwamāAnd notتَسْءَلُهُمْtasaluhumyou ask themعَلَيْهِʿalayhifor itمِنْminanyأَجْرٍajrinrewardإِنْinNotهُوَhuwa(is) itإِلَّاillābutذِكْرٌdhik'runa reminderلِلْعَالَمِينَlil'ʿālamīnato the worlds
  105. 105وَكَأَيِّنْwaka-ayyinAnd how manyمِنْminofءَايَةٍāyatina Signفِيinالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthيَمُرُّونَyamurrūnathey passعَلَيْهَاʿalayhāover itوَهُمْwahumwhile theyعَنْهَاʿanhā(are) from themمُعْرِضُونَmuʿ'riḍūnathe ones who turn away
  106. 106وَمَاwamāAnd notيُؤْمِنُyu'minubelieveأَكْثَرُهُمْaktharuhummost of themبِاللَّهِbil-lahiin Allahإِلَّاillāexceptوَهُمْwahumwhile theyمُشْرِكُونَmush'rikūnaassociate partners with Him
  107. 107أَفَأَمِنُواafa-aminūDo they then feel secureأَنْan(against) thatتَأْتِيَهُمْtatiyahumcomes to themغَاشِيَةٌghāshiyatunan overwhelmingمِنْmin[of]عَذَابِʿadhābipunishmentاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahأَوْaworتَأْتِيَهُمُtatiyahumucomes to themالسَّاعَةُl-sāʿatuthe Hourبَغْتَةًbaghtatansuddenlyوَهُمْwahumwhile theyلَا(do) notيَشْعُرُونَyashʿurūnaperceive
  108. 108قُلْqulSayهَذِهِhādhihiThisسَبِيلِيsabīlī(is) my wayأَدْعُواadʿūI inviteإِلَىilātoاللَّهِl-lahiAllahعَلَىʿalāwithبَصِيرَةٍbaṣīratininsightأَنَاanāIوَمَنِwamaniand whoeverاتَّبَعَنِيittabaʿanīfollows meوَسُبْحَانَwasub'ḥānaAnd Glory beاللَّهِl-lahi(to) Allahوَمَاwamāand notأَنَاanāI amمِنَminaofالْمُشْرِكِينَl-mush'rikīnathe polytheists
  109. 109وَمَاwamāAnd notأَرْسَلْنَاarsalnāWe sentمِنْminbefore youقَبْلِكَqablikabefore youإِلَّاillābutرِجَالًاrijālanmenنُوحِيnūḥīWe revealedإِلَيْهِمْilayhimto themمِنْminfrom (among)أَهْلِahli(the) peopleالْقُرَىl-qurā(of) the townshipsأَفَلَمْafalamSo have notيَسِيرُواyasīrūthey traveledفِيinالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthفَيَنْظُرُواfayanẓurūand seenكَيْفَkayfahowكَانَkānawasعَاقِبَةُʿāqibatu(the) endالَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those whoمِنْmin(were) before themقَبْلِهِمْqablihim(were) before themوَلَدَارُwaladāruAnd surely the homeالْءَاخِرَةِl-ākhirati(of) the Hereafterخَيْرٌkhayrun(is) bestلِلَّذِينَlilladhīnafor those whoاتَّقَوْاittaqawfear AllahأَفَلَاafalāThen will notتَعْقِلُونَtaʿqilūnayou use reason
  110. 110حَتَّىḥattāUntilإِذَاidhāwhenاسْتَيْئَسَis'tayasagave up hopeالرُّسُلُl-rusuluthe Messengersوَظَنُّواwaẓannūand thoughtأَنَّهُمْannahumthat theyقَدْqadcertainlyكُذِبُواkudhibūwere deniedجَاءَهُمْjāahumthen came to themنَصْرُنَاnaṣrunāOur helpفَنُجِّيَfanujjiyaand was savedمَنْmanwhomنَشَاءُnashāuWe willedوَلَاwalāAnd notيُرَدُّyuraddu(can) be repelledبَأْسُنَاbasunāOur punishmentعَنِʿanifromالْقَوْمِl-qawmithe peopleالْمُجْرِمِينَl-muj'rimīna(who are) criminals
  111. 111لَقَدْlaqadVerilyكَانَkāna(there) isفِيinقَصَصِهِمْqaṣaṣihimtheir storiesعِبْرَةٌʿib'ratuna lessonلِأُولِيli-ulīfor menالْأَلْبَابِl-albābi(of) understandingمَاNotكَانَkāna(it) isحَدِيثًاḥadīthana narrationيُفْتَرَىyuf'tarāinventedوَلَكِنْwalākinbutتَصْدِيقَtaṣdīqaa confirmationالَّذِيalladhī(of that) whichبَيْنَbayna(was) before itيَدَيْهِyadayhi(was) before itوَتَفْصِيلَwatafṣīlaand a detailed explanationكُلِّkulli(of) allشَيْءٍshayinthingsوَهُدًىwahudanand a guidanceوَرَحْمَةًwaraḥmatanand mercyلِقَوْمٍliqawminfor a peopleيُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnawho believe
