Surah 9 — At-Tawba

  1. 1بَرَاءَةٌbarāatunFreedom from obligationsمِنَminafromاللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَرَسُولِهِwarasūlihiand His Messengerإِلَىilātoالَّذِينَalladhīnathose (with) whomعَاهَدْتُمْʿāhadttumyou made a treatyمِنَminafromالْمُشْرِكِينَl-mush'rikīnathe polytheists
  2. 2فَسِيحُواfasīḥūSo move aboutفِيinالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe landأَرْبَعَةَarbaʿata(during) fourأَشْهُرٍashhurinmonthsوَاعْلَمُواwa-iʿ'lamūbut knowأَنَّكُمْannakumthat youغَيْرُghayru(can) notمُعْجِزِيmuʿ'jizīescapeاللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَأَنَّwa-annaand thatاللَّهَl-lahaAllahمُخْزِيmukh'zī(is) the One Who (will) disgraceالْكَافِرِينَl-kāfirīnathe disbelievers
  3. 3وَأَذَانٌwa-adhānunAnd an announcementمِنَminafrom Allahاللَّهِl-lahifrom Allahوَرَسُولِهِwarasūlihiand His Messengerإِلَىilātoالنَّاسِl-nāsithe peopleيَوْمَyawma(on the) dayالْحَجِّl-ḥaji(of) the greater Pilgrimageالْأَكْبَرِl-akbari(of) the greater Pilgrimageأَنَّannathatاللَّهَl-lahaAllahبَرِيءٌbarīon(is) free from obligationsمِنَmina[of]الْمُشْرِكِينَl-mush'rikīna(to) the polytheistsوَرَسُولُهُwarasūluhuand (so is) His Messengerفَإِنْfa-inSo ifتُبْتُمْtub'tumyou repentفَهُوَfahuwathen, it isخَيْرٌkhayrunbestلَكُمْlakumfor youوَإِنْwa-inBut ifتَوَلَّيْتُمْtawallaytumyou turn awayفَاعْلَمُواfa-iʿ'lamūthen knowأَنَّكُمْannakumthat youغَيْرُghayru(can) notمُعْجِزِيmuʿ'jizīescapeاللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَبَشِّرِwabashiriAnd give glad tidingsالَّذِينَalladhīna(to) those whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelieveبِعَذَابٍbiʿadhābinof a punishmentأَلِيمٍalīminpainful
  4. 4إِلَّاillāExceptالَّذِينَalladhīnathose (with) whomعَاهَدْتُمْʿāhadttumyou have a treatyمِنَminaamongالْمُشْرِكِينَl-mush'rikīnathe polytheistsثُمَّthummathenلَمْlamnotيَنْقُصُوكُمْyanquṣūkumthey have failed youشَيْئًاshayan(in any) thingوَلَمْwalamand notيُظَاهِرُواyuẓāhirūthey have supportedعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumagainst youأَحَدًاaḥadananyoneفَأَتِمُّواfa-atimmūso fulfilإِلَيْهِمْilayhimto themعَهْدَهُمْʿahdahumtheir treatyإِلَىilātillمُدَّتِهِمْmuddatihimtheir termإِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahيُحِبُّyuḥibbulovesالْمُتَّقِينَl-mutaqīnathe righteous
  5. 5فَإِذَاfa-idhāThen whenانْسَلَخَinsalakhahave passedالْأَشْهُرُl-ashhuruthe sacred monthsالْحُرُمُl-ḥurumuthe sacred monthsفَاقْتُلُواfa-uq'tulūthen killالْمُشْرِكِينَl-mush'rikīnathe polytheistsحَيْثُḥaythuwhereverوَجَدْتُمُوهُمْwajadttumūhumyou find themوَخُذُوهُمْwakhudhūhumand seize themوَاحْصُرُوهُمْwa-uḥ'ṣurūhumand besiege themوَاقْعُدُواwa-uq'ʿudūand sit (in wait)لَهُمْlahumfor themكُلَّkulla(at) everyمَرْصَدٍmarṣadinplace of ambushفَإِنْfa-inBut ifتَابُواtābūthey repentوَأَقَامُواwa-aqāmūand establishالصَّلَوةَl-ṣalatathe prayerوَءَاتَوُاwaātawūand giveالزَّكَوةَl-zakatathe zakahفَخَلُّواfakhallūthen leaveسَبِيلَهُمْsabīlahumtheir wayإِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahغَفُورٌghafūrun(is) Oft-ForgivingرَحِيمٌraḥīmunMost Merciful
  6. 6وَإِنْwa-inAnd ifأَحَدٌaḥadunanyoneمِنَminaofالْمُشْرِكِينَl-mush'rikīnathe polytheistsاسْتَجَارَكَis'tajārakaseek your protectionفَأَجِرْهُfa-ajir'huthen grant him protectionحَتَّىḥattāuntilيَسْمَعَyasmaʿahe hearsكَلَامَkalāma(the) Words of Allahاللَّهِl-lahi(the) Words of AllahثُمَّthummaThenأَبْلِغْهُabligh'huescort himمَأْمَنَهُmamanahu(to) his place of safetyذَلِكَdhālikaThatبِأَنَّهُمْbi-annahum(is) because theyقَوْمٌqawmun(are) a peopleلَا(who) do not knowيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūna(who) do not know
  7. 7كَيْفَkayfaHowيَكُونُyakūnucan (there) beلِلْمُشْرِكِينَlil'mush'rikīnafor the polytheistsعَهْدٌʿahduna covenantعِنْدَʿindawithاللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَعِنْدَwaʿindaand withرَسُولِهِrasūlihiHis Messengerإِلَّاillāexceptالَّذِينَalladhīnathose (with) whomعَاهَدْتُمْʿāhadttumyou made a treatyعِنْدَʿindanearالْمَسْجِدِl-masjidiAl-Masjidالْحَرَامِl-ḥarāmiAl-HaraamفَمَاfamāSo long asاسْتَقَامُواis'taqāmūthey are uprightلَكُمْlakumto youفَاسْتَقِيمُواfa-is'taqīmūthen you be uprightلَهُمْlahumto themإِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahيُحِبُّyuḥibbulovesالْمُتَّقِينَl-mutaqīnathe righteous
  8. 8كَيْفَkayfaHowوَإِنْwa-inwhile, ifيَظْهَرُواyaẓharūthey gain dominanceعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumover youلَاthey do not regard (the ties)يَرْقُبُواyarqubūthey do not regard (the ties)فِيكُمْfīkumwith youإِلًّاillan(of) kinshipوَلَاwalāand notذِمَّةًdhimmatancovenant of protectionيُرْضُونَكُمْyur'ḍūnakumThey satisfy youبِأَفْوَاهِهِمْbi-afwāhihimwith their mouthsوَتَأْبَىwatabābut refuseقُلُوبُهُمْqulūbuhumtheir heartsوَأَكْثَرُهُمْwa-aktharuhumand most of themفَاسِقُونَfāsiqūna(are) defiantly disobedient
  9. 9اشْتَرَوْاish'tarawThey exchangeبِءَايَاتِbiāyāti[with] the Verses of Allahاللَّهِl-lahi[with] the Verses of Allahثَمَنًاthamanan(for) a little priceقَلِيلًاqalīlan(for) a little priceفَصَدُّواfaṣaddūand they hinder (people)عَنْʿanfromسَبِيلِهِsabīlihiHis wayإِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeedسَاءَsāaevilمَا(is) whatكَانُواkānūthey used toيَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūnado
  10. 10لَاNotيَرْقُبُونَyarqubūnathey respect (the ties)فِيtowardsمُؤْمِنٍmu'minina believerإِلًّاillan(of) kinshipوَلَاwalāand notذِمَّةًdhimmatancovenant of protectionوَأُولَئِكَwa-ulāikaAnd thoseهُمُhumu[they]الْمُعْتَدُونَl-muʿ'tadūna(are) the transgressors
  11. 11فَإِنْfa-inBut ifتَابُواtābūthey repentوَأَقَامُواwa-aqāmūand establishالصَّلَوةَl-ṣalatathe prayerوَءَاتَوُاwaātawūand giveالزَّكَوةَl-zakatathe zakahفَإِخْوَانُكُمْfa-ikh'wānukumthen (they are) your brothersفِيinالدِّينِl-dīni[the] religionوَنُفَصِّلُwanufaṣṣiluAnd We explain in detailالْءَايَاتِl-āyātithe Versesلِقَوْمٍliqawminfor a peopleيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūna(who) know
  12. 12وَإِنْwa-inAnd ifنَكَثُواnakathūthey breakأَيْمَانَهُمْaymānahumtheir oathsمِنْminafterبَعْدِbaʿdiafterعَهْدِهِمْʿahdihimtheir treatyوَطَعَنُواwaṭaʿanūand defameفِي[in]دِينِكُمْdīnikumyour religionفَقَاتِلُواfaqātilūthen fightأَئِمَّةَa-immatathe leadersالْكُفْرِl-kuf'ri(of) [the] disbeliefإِنَّهُمْinnahumindeed, theyلَاnoأَيْمَانَaymānaoathsلَهُمْlahumfor themلَعَلَّهُمْlaʿallahumso that they mayيَنْتَهُونَyantahūnacease
  13. 13أَلَاalāWill notتُقَاتِلُونَtuqātilūnayou fightقَوْمًاqawmana peopleنَكَثُواnakathūwho brokeأَيْمَانَهُمْaymānahumtheir oathsوَهَمُّواwahammūand determinedبِإِخْرَاجِbi-ikh'rājito drive outالرَّسُولِl-rasūlithe Messengerوَهُمْwahumand theyبَدَءُوكُمْbadaūkumbegan (to attack) youأَوَّلَawwalafirstمَرَّةٍmarratintimeأَتَخْشَوْنَهُمْatakhshawnahumDo you fear themفَاللَّهُfal-lahuBut Allahأَحَقُّaḥaqqu(has) more rightأَنْanthatتَخْشَوْهُtakhshawhuyou should fear Himإِنْinifكُنْتُمْkuntumyou areمُؤْمِنِينَmu'minīnabelievers
  14. 14قَاتِلُوهُمْqātilūhumFight themيُعَذِّبْهُمُyuʿadhib'humuAllah will punish themاللَّهُl-lahuAllah will punish themبِأَيْدِيكُمْbi-aydīkumby your handsوَيُخْزِهِمْwayukh'zihimand disgrace themوَيَنْصُرْكُمْwayanṣur'kumand give you victoryعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimover themوَيَشْفِwayashfiand will healصُدُورَṣudūra(the) breastsقَوْمٍqawmin(of) a peopleمُؤْمِنِينَmu'minīna(who are) believers
  15. 15وَيُذْهِبْwayudh'hibAnd removeغَيْظَghayẓa(the) angerقُلُوبِهِمْqulūbihim(of) their heartsوَيَتُوبُwayatūbuAnd Allah accepts repentanceاللَّهُl-lahuAnd Allah accepts repentanceعَلَىʿalāofمَنْmanwhomيَشَاءُyashāuHe willsوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahعَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) All-KnowerحَكِيمٌḥakīmunAll-Wise
  16. 16أَمْamOrحَسِبْتُمْḥasib'tum(do) you thinkأَنْanthatتُتْرَكُواtut'rakūyou would be leftوَلَمَّاwalammāwhile notيَعْلَمِyaʿlamiAllah made evidentاللَّهُl-lahuAllah made evidentالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoجَاهَدُواjāhadūstriveمِنْكُمْminkumamong youوَلَمْwalamand notيَتَّخِذُواyattakhidhūtakeمِنْminbesides Allahدُونِdūnibesides Allahاللَّهِl-lahibesides Allahوَلَاwalāand notرَسُولِهِrasūlihiHis Messengerوَلَاwalāand notالْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believersوَلِيجَةًwalījatan(as) intimatesوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahخَبِيرٌkhabīrun(is) All-Awareبِمَاbimāof whatتَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnayou do
  17. 17مَا(It) is notكَانَkāna(It) is notلِلْمُشْرِكِينَlil'mush'rikīnafor the polytheistsأَنْanthatيَعْمُرُواyaʿmurūthey maintainمَسَاجِدَmasājida(the) masajid of Allahاللَّهِl-lahi(the) masajid of Allahشَاهِدِينَshāhidīna(while) witnessingعَلَىʿalāagainstأَنْفُسِهِمْanfusihimthemselvesبِالْكُفْرِbil-kuf'ri[with] disbeliefأُولَئِكَulāika(For) thoseحَبِطَتْḥabiṭatworthlessأَعْمَالُهُمْaʿmāluhum(are) their deedsوَفِيwafīand inالنَّارِl-nārithe Fireهُمْhumtheyخَالِدُونَkhālidūna(will) abide forever
  18. 18إِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyيَعْمُرُyaʿmuruwill maintainمَسَاجِدَmasājida(the) masajid of Allahاللَّهِl-lahi(the) masajid of Allahمَنْman(the one) whoءَامَنَāmanabelievesبِاللَّهِbil-lahiin Allahوَالْيَوْمِwal-yawmiand the Dayالْءَاخِرِl-ākhirithe Lastوَأَقَامَwa-aqāmaand establishesالصَّلَوةَl-ṣalatathe prayerوَءَاتَىwaātāand givesالزَّكَوةَl-zakatathe zakahوَلَمْwalamand notيَخْشَyakhshafearإِلَّاillāexceptاللَّهَl-lahaAllahفَعَسَىfaʿasāThen perhapsأُولَئِكَulāikathoseأَنْan[that]يَكُونُواyakūnūthey areمِنَminaofالْمُهْتَدِينَl-muh'tadīnathe guided ones
  19. 19أَجَعَلْتُمْajaʿaltumDo you makeسِقَايَةَsiqāyatathe providing of waterالْحَاجِّl-ḥāji(to) the pilgrimsوَعِمَارَةَwaʿimārataand (the) maintenanceالْمَسْجِدِl-masjidi(of) Al-Masjid Al-Haraamالْحَرَامِl-ḥarāmi(of) Al-Masjid Al-Haraamكَمَنْkamanlike (the one) whoءَامَنَāmanabelievesبِاللَّهِbil-lahiin Allahوَالْيَوْمِwal-yawmiand the Dayالْءَاخِرِl-ākhirithe Lastوَجَاهَدَwajāhadaand strivesفِيinسَبِيلِsabīli(the) wayاللَّهِl-lahi(of) AllahلَاThey are not equalيَسْتَوُونَyastawūnaThey are not equalعِنْدَʿindanearاللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahلَا(does) notيَهْدِيyahdīguideالْقَوْمَl-qawmathe peopleالظَّالِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers
  20. 20الَّذِينَalladhīnaThose whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelievedوَهَاجَرُواwahājarūand emigratedوَجَاهَدُواwajāhadūand stroveفِيinسَبِيلِsabīli(the) wayاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahبِأَمْوَالِهِمْbi-amwālihimwith their wealthوَأَنْفُسِهِمْwa-anfusihimand their livesأَعْظَمُaʿẓamu(are) greaterدَرَجَةًdarajatan(in) rankعِنْدَʿindanearاللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَأُولَئِكَwa-ulāikaAnd thoseهُمُhumutheyالْفَائِزُونَl-fāizūna(are) the successful
  21. 21يُبَشِّرُهُمْyubashiruhumTheir Lord gives them glad tidingsرَبُّهُمْrabbuhumTheir Lord gives them glad tidingsبِرَحْمَةٍbiraḥmatinof Mercyمِنْهُmin'hufrom Himوَرِضْوَانٍwariḍ'wāninand Pleasureوَجَنَّاتٍwajannātinand Gardensلَهُمْlahumfor themفِيهَاfīhāin itنَعِيمٌnaʿīmun(is) blissمُقِيمٌmuqīmunenduring
  22. 22خَالِدِينَkhālidīna(They will) abideفِيهَاfīhāin itأَبَدًاabadanforeverإِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahعِنْدَهُʿindahuwith Himأَجْرٌajrun(is) a rewardعَظِيمٌʿaẓīmungreat
  23. 23يَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO youالَّذِينَalladhīnawhoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieve!لَا(Do) notتَتَّخِذُواtattakhidhūtakeءَابَاءَكُمْābāakumyour fathersوَإِخْوَانَكُمْwa-ikh'wānakumand your brothersأَوْلِيَاءَawliyāa(as) alliesإِنِiniifاسْتَحَبُّواis'taḥabbūthey preferالْكُفْرَl-kuf'ra[the] disbeliefعَلَىʿalāoverالْإِيمَانِl-īmāni[the] beliefوَمَنْwamanAnd whoeverيَتَوَلَّهُمْyatawallahumtakes them as alliesمِنْكُمْminkumamong youفَأُولَئِكَfa-ulāikathen thoseهُمُhumu[they]الظَّالِمُونَl-ẓālimūna(are) the wrongdoers
  24. 24قُلْqulSayإِنْinIfكَانَkānaareءَابَاؤُكُمْābāukumyour fathersوَأَبْنَاؤُكُمْwa-abnāukumand your sonsوَإِخْوَانُكُمْwa-ikh'wānukumand your brothersوَأَزْوَاجُكُمْwa-azwājukumand your spousesوَعَشِيرَتُكُمْwaʿashīratukumand your relativesوَأَمْوَالٌwa-amwālunand wealthاقْتَرَفْتُمُوهَاiq'taraftumūhāthat you have acquiredوَتِجَارَةٌwatijāratunand the commerceتَخْشَوْنَtakhshawnayou fearكَسَادَهَاkasādahāa decline (in) itوَمَسَاكِنُwamasākinuand the dwellingsتَرْضَوْنَهَاtarḍawnahāyou delight (in) itأَحَبَّaḥabba(are) more belovedإِلَيْكُمْilaykumto youمِنَminathanاللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَرَسُولِهِwarasūlihiand His Messengerوَجِهَادٍwajihādinand strivingفِيinسَبِيلِهِsabīlihiHis wayفَتَرَبَّصُواfatarabbaṣūthen waitحَتَّىḥattāuntilيَأْتِيَyatiyaAllah bringsاللَّهُl-lahuAllah bringsبِأَمْرِهِbi-amrihiHis Commandوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahلَا(does) notيَهْدِيyahdīguideالْقَوْمَl-qawmathe peopleالْفَاسِقِينَl-fāsiqīnathe defiantly disobedient
  25. 25لَقَدْlaqadVerilyنَصَرَكُمُnaṣarakumuAllah helped youاللَّهُl-lahuAllah helped youفِيinمَوَاطِنَmawāṭinaregionsكَثِيرَةٍkathīratinmanyوَيَوْمَwayawmaand (on the) dayحُنَيْنٍḥunaynin(of) Hunainإِذْidhwhenأَعْجَبَتْكُمْaʿjabatkumpleased youكَثْرَتُكُمْkathratukumyour multitudeفَلَمْfalambut notتُغْنِtugh'niavailedعَنْكُمْʿankumyouشَيْئًاshayananythingوَضَاقَتْwaḍāqatand (was) straitenedعَلَيْكُمُʿalaykumufor youالْأَرْضُl-arḍuthe earthبِمَاbimā(in spite) of its vastnessرَحُبَتْraḥubat(in spite) of its vastnessثُمَّthummathenوَلَّيْتُمْwallaytumyou turned backمُدْبِرِينَmud'birīnafleeing
  26. 26ثُمَّthummaThenأَنْزَلَanzalaAllah sent downاللَّهُl-lahuAllah sent downسَكِينَتَهُsakīnatahuHis tranquilityعَلَىʿalāonرَسُولِهِrasūlihiHis Messengerوَعَلَىwaʿalāand onالْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believersوَأَنْزَلَwa-anzalaand sent downجُنُودًاjunūdanforcesلَمْlamwhich you did not seeتَرَوْهَاtarawhāwhich you did not seeوَعَذَّبَwaʿadhabaand He punishedالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelievedوَذَلِكَwadhālikaAnd thatجَزَاءُjazāu(is) the recompenseالْكَافِرِينَl-kāfirīna(of) the disbelievers
  27. 27ثُمَّthummaThenيَتُوبُyatūbuAllah accepts repentanceاللَّهُl-lahuAllah accepts repentanceمِنْminafterبَعْدِbaʿdiafterذَلِكَdhālikathatعَلَىʿalāforمَنْmanwhomيَشَاءُyashāuHe willsوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahغَفُورٌghafūrun(is) Oft-ForgivingرَحِيمٌraḥīmunMost Merciful
  28. 28يَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you who believeالَّذِينَalladhīnaO you who believeءَامَنُواāmanūO you who believeإِنَّمَاinnamāIndeedالْمُشْرِكُونَl-mush'rikūnathe polytheistsنَجَسٌnajasun(are) uncleanفَلَاfalāso let them not come nearيَقْرَبُواyaqrabūso let them not come nearالْمَسْجِدَl-masjidaAl-Masjid Al-Haraamالْحَرَامَl-ḥarāmaAl-Masjid Al-Haraamبَعْدَbaʿdaafterعَامِهِمْʿāmihimthis, their (final) yearهَذَاhādhāthis, their (final) yearوَإِنْwa-inAnd ifخِفْتُمْkhif'tumyou fearعَيْلَةًʿaylatanpovertyفَسَوْفَfasawfathen soonيُغْنِيكُمُyugh'nīkumuAllah will enrich youاللَّهُl-lahuAllah will enrich youمِنْminfromفَضْلِهِfaḍlihiHis BountyإِنْinifشَاءَshāaHe willsإِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahعَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) All-KnowerحَكِيمٌḥakīmunAll-Wise
  29. 29قَاتِلُواqātilūFightالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoلَا(do) notيُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnabelieveبِاللَّهِbil-lahiin Allahوَلَاwalāand notبِالْيَوْمِbil-yawmiin the Dayالْءَاخِرِl-ākhirithe Lastوَلَاwalāand notيُحَرِّمُونَyuḥarrimūnathey make unlawfulمَاwhatحَرَّمَḥarramaAllah has made unlawfulاللَّهُl-lahuAllah has made unlawfulوَرَسُولُهُwarasūluhuand His Messengerوَلَاwalāand notيَدِينُونَyadīnūnathey acknowledgeدِينَdīna(the) religionالْحَقِّl-ḥaqi(of) the truthمِنَminafromالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoأُوتُواūtūwere givenالْكِتَابَl-kitābathe Scriptureحَتَّىḥattāuntilيُعْطُواyuʿ'ṭūthey payالْجِزْيَةَl-jiz'yatathe jizyahعَنْʿanwillinglyيَدٍyadinwillinglyوَهُمْwahumwhile theyصَاغِرُونَṣāghirūna(are) subdued
  30. 30وَقَالَتِwaqālatiAnd saidالْيَهُودُl-yahūduthe JewsعُزَيْرٌʿuzayrunUzairابْنُub'nu(is) sonاللَّهِl-lahi(of) AllahوَقَالَتِwaqālatiAnd saidالنَّصَارَىl-naṣārāthe Christiansالْمَسِيحُl-masīḥuMessiahابْنُub'nu(is) sonاللَّهِl-lahi(of) AllahذَلِكَdhālikaThatقَوْلُهُمْqawluhum(is) their sayingبِأَفْوَاهِهِمْbi-afwāhihimwith their mouthsيُضَاهِئُونَyuḍāhiūnathey imitateقَوْلَqawlathe sayingالَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelievedمِنْminbeforeقَبْلُqablubeforeقَاتَلَهُمُqātalahumu(May) Allah destroy themاللَّهُl-lahu(May) Allah destroy themأَنَّىannāHowيُؤْفَكُونَyu'fakūnadeluded are they
  31. 31اتَّخَذُواittakhadhūThey have takenأَحْبَارَهُمْaḥbārahumtheir rabbisوَرُهْبَانَهُمْwaruh'bānahumand their monksأَرْبَابًاarbāban(as) Lordsمِنْminbesidesدُونِdūnibesidesاللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَالْمَسِيحَwal-masīḥaand the Messiahابْنَib'nasonمَرْيَمَmaryama(of) MaryamوَمَاwamāAnd notأُمِرُواumirūthey were commandedإِلَّاillāexceptلِيَعْبُدُواliyaʿbudūthat they worshipإِلَهًاilāhanOne GodوَاحِدًاwāḥidanOne Godلَا(There) is noإِلَهَilāhagodإِلَّاillāexceptهُوَhuwaHimسُبْحَانَهُsub'ḥānahuGlory be to Himعَمَّاʿammāfrom whatيُشْرِكُونَyush'rikūnathey associate (with Him)
  32. 32يُرِيدُونَyurīdūnaThey wantأَنْantoيُطْفِءُواyuṭ'fiūextinguishنُورَnūra(Allah's) lightاللَّهِl-lahiAllah's (light)بِأَفْوَاهِهِمْbi-afwāhihimwith their mouthsوَيَأْبَىwayabābut Allah refusesاللَّهُl-lahubut Allah refusesإِلَّاillāexceptأَنْantoيُتِمَّyutimmaperfectنُورَهُnūrahuHis Lightوَلَوْwalaweven ifكَرِهَkarihathe disbelievers dislike (it)الْكَافِرُونَl-kāfirūnathe disbelievers dislike (it)
  33. 33هُوَhuwaHeالَّذِيalladhī(is) the One Whoأَرْسَلَarsalahas sentرَسُولَهُrasūlahuHis Messengerبِالْهُدَىbil-hudāwith the guidanceوَدِينِwadīniand the religionالْحَقِّl-ḥaqi(of) [the] truthلِيُظْهِرَهُliyuẓ'hirahuto manifest itعَلَىʿalāoverالدِّينِl-dīniall religionsكُلِّهِkullihiall religionsوَلَوْwalawEven ifكَرِهَkarihadislike (it)الْمُشْرِكُونَl-mush'rikūnathe polytheists
  34. 34يَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you who believeالَّذِينَalladhīnaO you who believeءَامَنُواāmanūO you who believeإِنَّinnaIndeedكَثِيرًاkathīranmanyمِنَminaofالْأَحْبَارِl-aḥbārithe rabbisوَالرُّهْبَانِwal-ruh'bāniand the monksلَيَأْكُلُونَlayakulūnasurely eatأَمْوَالَamwāla(the) wealthالنَّاسِl-nāsi(of) the peopleبِالْبَاطِلِbil-bāṭiliin falsehoodوَيَصُدُّونَwayaṣuddūnaand hinderعَنْʿanfromسَبِيلِsabīli(the) wayاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahوَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoيَكْنِزُونَyaknizūnahoardالذَّهَبَl-dhahabathe goldوَالْفِضَّةَwal-fiḍataand the silverوَلَاwalāand (do) notيُنْفِقُونَهَاyunfiqūnahāspend itفِيinسَبِيلِsabīli(the) wayاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahفَبَشِّرْهُمْfabashir'hum[so] give them tidingsبِعَذَابٍbiʿadhābinof a punishmentأَلِيمٍalīminpainful
  35. 35يَوْمَyawma(The) Dayيُحْمَىyuḥ'māit will be heated [on it]عَلَيْهَاʿalayhāit will be heated [on it]فِيinنَارِnārithe Fireجَهَنَّمَjahannama(of) Hellفَتُكْوَىfatuk'wāand will be brandedبِهَاbihāwith itجِبَاهُهُمْjibāhuhumtheir foreheadsوَجُنُوبُهُمْwajunūbuhumand their flanksوَظُهُورُهُمْwaẓuhūruhumand their backsهَذَاhādhāThisمَا(is) whatكَنَزْتُمْkanaztumyou hoardedلِأَنْفُسِكُمْli-anfusikumfor yourselvesفَذُوقُواfadhūqūso tasteمَاwhatكُنْتُمْkuntumyou used toتَكْنِزُونَtaknizūnahoard
  36. 36إِنَّinnaIndeedعِدَّةَʿiddata(the) numberالشُّهُورِl-shuhūri(of) the monthsعِنْدَʿindawithاللَّهِl-lahiAllahاثْنَاith'nā(is) twelveعَشَرَʿashara(is) twelveشَهْرًاshahranmonthsفِيinكِتَابِkitābi(the) ordinanceاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahيَوْمَyawma(from the) DayخَلَقَkhalaqaHe createdالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَالْأَرْضَwal-arḍaand the earthمِنْهَاmin'hāof themأَرْبَعَةٌarbaʿatunfourحُرُمٌḥurumun(are) sacredذَلِكَdhālikaThatالدِّينُl-dīnu(is) the religionالْقَيِّمُl-qayimuthe uprightفَلَاfalāso (do) notتَظْلِمُواtaẓlimūwrongفِيهِنَّfīhinnathereinأَنْفُسَكُمْanfusakumyourselvesوَقَاتِلُواwaqātilūAnd fightالْمُشْرِكِينَl-mush'rikīnathe polytheistsكَافَّةًkāffatanall togetherكَمَاkamāasيُقَاتِلُونَكُمْyuqātilūnakumthey fight youكَافَّةًkāffatanall togetherوَاعْلَمُواwa-iʿ'lamūAnd knowأَنَّannathatاللَّهَl-lahaAllahمَعَmaʿa(is) withالْمُتَّقِينَl-mutaqīnathe righteous
  37. 37إِنَّمَاinnamāIndeedالنَّسِيءُl-nasīuthe postponingزِيَادَةٌziyādatun(is) an increaseفِيinالْكُفْرِl-kuf'rithe disbeliefيُضَلُّyuḍalluare led astrayبِهِbihiby itالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelieveيُحِلُّونَهُyuḥillūnahuThey make it lawfulعَامًاʿāmanone yearوَيُحَرِّمُونَهُwayuḥarrimūnahuand make it unlawfulعَامًاʿāman(another) yearلِيُوَاطِئُواliyuwāṭiūto adjustعِدَّةَʿiddatathe numberمَاwhichحَرَّمَḥarramaAllah has made unlawfulاللَّهُl-lahuAllah has made unlawfulفَيُحِلُّواfayuḥillūand making lawfulمَاwhatحَرَّمَḥarramaAllah has made unlawfulاللَّهُl-lahuAllah has made unlawfulزُيِّنَzuyyinaIs made fair-seemingلَهُمْlahumto themسُوءُsūu(the) evilأَعْمَالِهِمْaʿmālihim(of) their deedsوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahلَا(does) notيَهْدِيyahdīguideالْقَوْمَl-qawmathe peopleالْكَافِرِينَl-kāfirīnathe disbelievers
  38. 38يَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you who believeالَّذِينَalladhīnaO you who believeءَامَنُواāmanūO you who believeمَاWhatلَكُمْlakum(is the matter) with youإِذَاidhāwhenقِيلَqīlait is saidلَكُمُlakumuto youانْفِرُواinfirūgo forthفِيinسَبِيلِsabīli(the) wayاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahاثَّاقَلْتُمْithāqaltumyou cling heavilyإِلَىilātoالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthأَرَضِيتُمْaraḍītumAre you pleasedبِالْحَيَوةِbil-ḥayatiwith the lifeالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the worldمِنَmina(rather) thanالْءَاخِرَةِl-ākhiratithe HereafterفَمَاfamāBut whatمَتَاعُmatāʿu(is the) enjoymentالْحَيَوةِl-ḥayati(of) the lifeالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the worldفِيin (comparison to)الْءَاخِرَةِl-ākhiratithe hereafterإِلَّاillāexceptقَلِيلٌqalīluna little
  39. 39إِلَّاillāIf notتَنْفِرُواtanfirūyou go forthيُعَذِّبْكُمْyuʿadhib'kumHe will punish youعَذَابًاʿadhāban(with) a painful punishmentأَلِيمًاalīman(with) a painful punishmentوَيَسْتَبْدِلْwayastabdiland will replace youقَوْمًاqawman(with) a peopleغَيْرَكُمْghayrakumother than youوَلَاwalāand notتَضُرُّوهُtaḍurrūhuyou can harm Himشَيْئًاshayan(in) anythingوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahعَلَىʿalā(is) onكُلِّkullieveryشَيْءٍshayinthingقَدِيرٌqadīrunAll-Powerful
  40. 40إِلَّاillāIf notتَنْصُرُوهُtanṣurūhuyou help himفَقَدْfaqadcertainlyنَصَرَهُnaṣarahuAllah helped himاللَّهُl-lahuAllah helped himإِذْidhwhenأَخْرَجَهُakhrajahudrove him outالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelievedثَانِيَthāniyathe secondاثْنَيْنِith'nayni(of) the twoإِذْidhwhenهُمَاhumāthey bothفِي(were) inالْغَارِl-ghārithe caveإِذْidhwhenيَقُولُyaqūluhe saidلِصَاحِبِهِliṣāḥibihito his companionلَا(Do) notتَحْزَنْtaḥzangrieveإِنَّinnaindeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahمَعَنَاmaʿanā(is) with usفَأَنْزَلَfa-anzalaThen Allah sent downاللَّهُl-lahuThen Allah sent downسَكِينَتَهُsakīnatahuHis tranquilityعَلَيْهِʿalayhiupon himوَأَيَّدَهُwa-ayyadahuand supported himبِجُنُودٍbijunūdinwith forcesلَمْlamwhich you did not seeتَرَوْهَاtarawhāwhich you did not seeوَجَعَلَwajaʿalaand madeكَلِمَةَkalimata(the) wordالَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelievedالسُّفْلَىl-suf'lāthe lowestوَكَلِمَةُwakalimatuwhile (the) Wordاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahهِيَhiyait (is)الْعُلْيَاl-ʿul'yāthe highestوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahعَزِيزٌʿazīzun(is) All-MightyحَكِيمٌḥakīmunAll-Wise
  41. 41انْفِرُواinfirūGo forthخِفَافًاkhifāfanlightوَثِقَالًاwathiqālanor heavyوَجَاهِدُواwajāhidūand striveبِأَمْوَالِكُمْbi-amwālikumwith your wealthوَأَنْفُسِكُمْwa-anfusikumand your livesفِيinسَبِيلِsabīli(the) wayاللَّهِl-lahi(of) AllahذَلِكُمْdhālikumThatخَيْرٌkhayrun(is) betterلَكُمْlakumfor youإِنْinifكُنْتُمْkuntumyouتَعْلَمُونَtaʿlamūnaknow
  42. 42لَوْlawIfكَانَkānait had beenعَرَضًاʿaraḍana gainقَرِيبًاqarībannearوَسَفَرًاwasafaranand a journeyقَاصِدًاqāṣidaneasyلَاتَّبَعُوكَla-ittabaʿūkasurely they (would) have followed youوَلَكِنْwalākinbutبَعُدَتْbaʿudatwas longعَلَيْهِمُʿalayhimufor themالشُّقَّةُl-shuqatuthe distanceوَسَيَحْلِفُونَwasayaḥlifūnaAnd they will swearبِاللَّهِbil-lahiby AllahلَوِlawiIfاسْتَطَعْنَاis'taṭaʿnāwe were ableلَخَرَجْنَاlakharajnācertainly we (would) have come forthمَعَكُمْmaʿakumwith youيُهْلِكُونَyuh'likūnaThey destroyأَنْفُسَهُمْanfusahumtheir own selvesوَاللَّهُwal-lahuand Allahيَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknowsإِنَّهُمْinnahum(that) indeed theyلَكَاذِبُونَlakādhibūna(are) surely liars
  43. 43عَفَاʿafā(May) Allah forgiveاللَّهُl-lahu(May) Allah forgiveعَنْكَʿankayouلِمَlimaWhy (did)أَذِنْتَadhintayou grant leaveلَهُمْlahumto themحَتَّىḥattāuntilيَتَبَيَّنَyatabayyana(became) evidentلَكَlakato youالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoصَدَقُواṣadaqūwere truthfulوَتَعْلَمَwataʿlamaand you knewالْكَاذِبِينَl-kādhibīnathe liars
  44. 44لَا(Would) not ask your permissionيَسْتَءْذِنُكَyastadhinuka(Would) not ask your permissionالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoيُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnabelieveبِاللَّهِbil-lahiin Allahوَالْيَوْمِwal-yawmiand the Dayالْءَاخِرِl-ākhirithe Lastأَنْanthatيُجَاهِدُواyujāhidūthey striveبِأَمْوَالِهِمْbi-amwālihimwith their wealthوَأَنْفُسِهِمْwa-anfusihimand their livesوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahعَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) All-Knowerبِالْمُتَّقِينَbil-mutaqīnaof the righteous
  45. 45إِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyيَسْتَءْذِنُكَyastadhinukaask your leaveالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoلَا(do) notيُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnabelieveبِاللَّهِbil-lahiin Allahوَالْيَوْمِwal-yawmiand the Dayالْءَاخِرِl-ākhirithe Lastوَارْتَابَتْwa-ir'tābatand (are in) doubtsقُلُوبُهُمْqulūbuhumtheir heartsفَهُمْfahumso theyفِيinرَيْبِهِمْraybihimtheir doubtsيَتَرَدَّدُونَyataraddadūnathey waver
  46. 46وَلَوْwalawAnd ifأَرَادُواarādūthey had wishedالْخُرُوجَl-khurūja(to) go forthلَأَعَدُّواla-aʿaddūsurely they (would) have preparedلَهُlahufor itعُدَّةًʿuddatan(some) preparationوَلَكِنْwalākinButكَرِهَkarihaAllah dislikedاللَّهُl-lahuAllah dislikedانْبِعَاثَهُمْinbiʿāthahumtheir being sentفَثَبَّطَهُمْfathabbaṭahumso He made them lag behindوَقِيلَwaqīlaand it was saidاقْعُدُواuq'ʿudūSitمَعَmaʿawithالْقَاعِدِينَl-qāʿidīnathose who sit
  47. 47لَوْlawIfخَرَجُواkharajūthey (had) gone forthفِيكُمْfīkumwith youمَاnotزَادُوكُمْzādūkumthey (would) have increased youإِلَّاillāexceptخَبَالًاkhabālan(in) confusionوَلَأَوْضَعُواwala-awḍaʿūand would have been activeخِلَالَكُمْkhilālakumin your midstيَبْغُونَكُمُyabghūnakumuseeking (for) youالْفِتْنَةَl-fit'natadissensionوَفِيكُمْwafīkumAnd among you (are some)سَمَّاعُونَsammāʿūnawho would have listenedلَهُمْlahumto themوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahعَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) All-Knowerبِالظَّالِمِينَbil-ẓālimīnaof the wrongdoers
  48. 48لَقَدِlaqadiVerilyابْتَغَوُاib'taghawūthey had soughtالْفِتْنَةَl-fit'natadissensionمِنْminbeforeقَبْلُqablubeforeوَقَلَّبُواwaqallabūand had upsetلَكَlakafor youالْأُمُورَl-umūrathe mattersحَتَّىḥattāuntilجَاءَjāacameالْحَقُّl-ḥaquthe truthوَظَهَرَwaẓaharaand became manifestأَمْرُamru(the) Order of Allahاللَّهِl-lahi(the) Order of Allahوَهُمْwahumwhile theyكَارِهُونَkārihūnadisliked (it)
  49. 49وَمِنْهُمْwamin'humAnd among themمَنْman(is he) whoيَقُولُyaqūlusaysائْذَنْi'dhanGrant me leaveلِيGrant me leaveوَلَاwalāand (do) notتَفْتِنِّيtaftinnīput me to trialأَلَاalāSurelyفِيinالْفِتْنَةِl-fit'natithe trialسَقَطُواsaqaṭūthey have fallenوَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeedجَهَنَّمَjahannamaHellلَمُحِيطَةٌlamuḥīṭatun(will) surely surroundبِالْكَافِرِينَbil-kāfirīnathe disbelievers
  50. 50إِنْinIfتُصِبْكَtuṣib'kabefalls youحَسَنَةٌḥasanatungoodتَسُؤْهُمْtasu'humit distresses themوَإِنْwa-inbut ifتُصِبْكَtuṣib'kabefalls youمُصِيبَةٌmuṣībatuna calamityيَقُولُواyaqūlūthey sayقَدْqadVerilyأَخَذْنَاakhadhnāwe tookأَمْرَنَاamranāour matterمِنْminbeforeقَبْلُqablubeforeوَيَتَوَلَّوْاwayatawallawAnd they turn awayوَهُمْwahumwhile theyفَرِحُونَfariḥūna(are) rejoicing
  51. 51قُلْqulSayلَنْlanNeverيُصِيبَنَاyuṣībanāwill befall usإِلَّاillāexceptمَاwhatكَتَبَkatabaAllah has decreedاللَّهُl-lahuAllah has decreedلَنَاlanāfor usهُوَhuwaHeمَوْلَانَاmawlānā(is) our ProtectorوَعَلَىwaʿalāAnd onاللَّهِl-lahiAllahفَلْيَتَوَكَّلِfalyatawakkalilet put (their) trustالْمُؤْمِنُونَl-mu'minūnaThe believers
  52. 52قُلْqulSayهَلْhalDoتَرَبَّصُونَtarabbaṣūnayou awaitبِنَاbināfor usإِلَّاillāexceptإِحْدَىiḥ'dāoneالْحُسْنَيَيْنِl-ḥus'nayayni(of) the two best (things)وَنَحْنُwanaḥnuwhile weنَتَرَبَّصُnatarabbaṣu[we] awaitبِكُمْbikumfor youأَنْanthatيُصِيبَكُمُyuṣībakumuAllah will afflict youاللَّهُl-lahuAllah will afflict youبِعَذَابٍbiʿadhābinwith a punishmentمِنْminfromعِنْدِهِʿindihi[near] Himأَوْaworبِأَيْدِينَاbi-aydīnāby our handsفَتَرَبَّصُواfatarabbaṣūSo waitإِنَّاinnāindeed, weمَعَكُمْmaʿakumwith youمُتَرَبِّصُونَmutarabbiṣūna(are) waiting
  53. 53قُلْqulSayأَنْفِقُواanfiqūSpendطَوْعًاṭawʿanwillinglyأَوْaworكَرْهًاkarhanunwillinglyلَنْlanneverيُتَقَبَّلَyutaqabbalawill be acceptedمِنْكُمْminkumfrom youإِنَّكُمْinnakumIndeed youكُنْتُمْkuntum[you] areقَوْمًاqawmana peopleفَاسِقِينَfāsiqīnadefiantly disobedient
  54. 54وَمَاwamāAnd notمَنَعَهُمْmanaʿahumprevents themأَنْanthatتُقْبَلَtuq'balais acceptedمِنْهُمْmin'humfrom themنَفَقَاتُهُمْnafaqātuhumtheir contributionsإِلَّاillāexceptأَنَّهُمْannahumthat theyكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelieveبِاللَّهِbil-lahiin Allahوَبِرَسُولِهِwabirasūlihiand in His Messengerوَلَاwalāand notيَأْتُونَyatūnathey comeالصَّلَوةَl-ṣalata(to) the prayerإِلَّاillāexceptوَهُمْwahumwhile theyكُسَالَىkusālā(are) lazyوَلَاwalāand notيُنْفِقُونَyunfiqūnathey spendإِلَّاillāexceptوَهُمْwahumwhile theyكَارِهُونَkārihūna(are) unwilling
  55. 55فَلَاfalāSo (let) notتُعْجِبْكَtuʿ'jib'kaimpress youأَمْوَالُهُمْamwāluhumtheir wealthوَلَاwalāand notأَوْلَادُهُمْawlāduhumtheir childrenإِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyيُرِيدُyurīduAllah intendsاللَّهُl-lahuAllah intendsلِيُعَذِّبَهُمْliyuʿadhibahumto punish themبِهَاbihāwith itفِيinالْحَيَوةِl-ḥayatithe lifeالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the worldوَتَزْهَقَwatazhaqaand should departأَنْفُسُهُمْanfusuhumtheir soulsوَهُمْwahumwhile theyكَافِرُونَkāfirūna(are) disbelievers
  56. 56وَيَحْلِفُونَwayaḥlifūnaAnd they swearبِاللَّهِbil-lahiby Allahإِنَّهُمْinnahumindeed theyلَمِنْكُمْlaminkumsurely (are) of youوَمَاwamāwhile notهُمْhumtheyمِنْكُمْminkum(are) of youوَلَكِنَّهُمْwalākinnahumbut theyقَوْمٌqawmun(are) a peopleيَفْرَقُونَyafraqūna(who) are afraid
  57. 57لَوْlawIfيَجِدُونَyajidūnathey could findمَلْجَأًmalja-ana refugeأَوْaworمَغَارَاتٍmaghārātincavesأَوْaworمُدَّخَلًاmuddakhalana place to enterلَوَلَّوْاlawallawsurely they would turnإِلَيْهِilayhito itوَهُمْwahumand theyيَجْمَحُونَyajmaḥūnarun wild
  58. 58وَمِنْهُمْwamin'humAnd among themمَنْman(is he) whoيَلْمِزُكَyalmizukacriticizes youفِيconcerningالصَّدَقَاتِl-ṣadaqātithe charitiesفَإِنْfa-inThen ifأُعْطُواuʿ'ṭūthey are givenمِنْهَاmin'hāfrom itرَضُواraḍūthey are pleasedوَإِنْwa-inbut ifلَمْlamnotيُعْطَوْاyuʿ'ṭawthey are givenمِنْهَاmin'hāfrom itإِذَاidhāthenهُمْhumtheyيَسْخَطُونَyaskhaṭūna(are) enraged
  59. 59وَلَوْwalawAnd ifأَنَّهُمْannahum[that] theyرَضُواraḍū(were) satisfiedمَا(with) whatءَاتَاهُمُātāhumuAllah gave themاللَّهُl-lahuAllah gave themوَرَسُولُهُwarasūluhuand His Messengerوَقَالُواwaqālūand saidحَسْبُنَاḥasbunāSufficient for usاللَّهُl-lahu(is) Allahسَيُؤْتِينَاsayu'tīnāAllah will give usاللَّهُl-lahuAllah will give usمِنْminofفَضْلِهِfaḍlihiHis Bountyوَرَسُولُهُwarasūluhuand His MessengerإِنَّاinnāIndeed, weإِلَىilātoاللَّهِl-lahiAllahرَاغِبُونَrāghibūnaturn our hopes
  60. 60إِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyالصَّدَقَاتُl-ṣadaqātuthe charitiesلِلْفُقَرَاءِlil'fuqarāi(are) for the poorوَالْمَسَاكِينِwal-masākīniand the needyوَالْعَامِلِينَwal-ʿāmilīnaand those who collectعَلَيْهَاʿalayhāthemوَالْمُؤَلَّفَةِwal-mu-alafatiand the ones inclinedقُلُوبُهُمْqulūbuhumtheir heartsوَفِيwafīand inالرِّقَابِl-riqābithe (freeing of) the necksوَالْغَارِمِينَwal-ghārimīnaand for those in debtوَفِيwafīand inسَبِيلِsabīli(the) wayاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahوَابْنِwa-ib'niand the wayfarerالسَّبِيلِl-sabīliand the wayfarerفَرِيضَةًfarīḍatanan obligationمِنَminafromاللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahعَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) All-KnowingحَكِيمٌḥakīmunAll-Wise
  61. 61وَمِنْهُمُwamin'humuAnd among themالَّذِينَalladhīna(are) those whoيُؤْذُونَyu'dhūnahurtالنَّبِيَّl-nabiyathe Prophetوَيَقُولُونَwayaqūlūnaand they sayهُوَhuwaHe isأُذُنٌudhunun(all) earقُلْqulSayأُذُنُudhunuAn earخَيْرٍkhayrin(of) goodnessلَكُمْlakumfor youيُؤْمِنُyu'minuhe believesبِاللَّهِbil-lahiin Allahوَيُؤْمِنُwayu'minuand believesلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَlil'mu'minīnathe believersوَرَحْمَةٌwaraḥmatunand (is) a mercyلِلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveمِنْكُمْminkumamong youوَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoيُؤْذُونَyu'dhūnahurtرَسُولَrasūla(the) Messengerاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahلَهُمْlahumfor themعَذَابٌʿadhābun(is) a punishmentأَلِيمٌalīmunpainful
  62. 62يَحْلِفُونَyaḥlifūnaThey swearبِاللَّهِbil-lahiby Allahلَكُمْlakumto youلِيُرْضُوكُمْliyur'ḍūkumto please youوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahوَرَسُولُهُwarasūluhuand His Messengerأَحَقُّaḥaqqu(have) more rightأَنْanthatيُرْضُوهُyur'ḍūhuthey should please Himإِنْinifكَانُواkānūthey areمُؤْمِنِينَmu'minīnabelievers
  63. 63أَلَمْalamDo notيَعْلَمُواyaʿlamūthey knowأَنَّهُannahuthat heمَنْmanwhoيُحَادِدِyuḥādidiopposesاللَّهَl-lahaAllahوَرَسُولَهُwarasūlahuand His Messengerفَأَنَّfa-anna[then] thatلَهُlahufor himنَارَnāra(is the) Fireجَهَنَّمَjahannama(of) Hellخَالِدًاkhālidan(will) abide foreverفِيهَاfīhāin itذَلِكَdhālikaThatالْخِزْيُl-khiz'yu(is) the disgraceالْعَظِيمُl-ʿaẓīmuthe great
  64. 64يَحْذَرُyaḥdharuFearالْمُنَافِقُونَl-munāfiqūnathe hypocritesأَنْanlestتُنَزَّلَtunazzalabe revealedعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimabout themسُورَةٌsūratuna Surahتُنَبِّئُهُمْtunabbi-uhuminforming themبِمَاbimāof whatفِي(is) inقُلُوبِهِمْqulūbihimtheir heartsقُلِquliSayاسْتَهْزِءُواis'tahziūMockإِنَّinnaindeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahمُخْرِجٌmukh'rijun(will) bring forthمَاwhatتَحْذَرُونَtaḥdharūnayou fear
  65. 65وَلَئِنْwala-inAnd ifسَأَلْتَهُمْsa-altahumyou ask themلَيَقُولُنَّlayaqūlunnasurely they will sayإِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyكُنَّاkunnāwe wereنَخُوضُnakhūḍuconversingوَنَلْعَبُwanalʿabuand playingقُلْqulSayأَبِاللَّهِabil-lahiIs it Allahوَءَايَاتِهِwaāyātihiand His Versesوَرَسُولِهِwarasūlihiand His Messengerكُنْتُمْkuntum(that) you wereتَسْتَهْزِئُونَtastahziūnamocking
  66. 66لَا(Do) notتَعْتَذِرُواtaʿtadhirūmake excuseقَدْqadverilyكَفَرْتُمْkafartumyou have disbelievedبَعْدَbaʿdaafterإِيمَانِكُمْīmānikumyour beliefإِنْinIfنَعْفُnaʿfuWe pardonعَنْʿan[on]طَائِفَةٍṭāifatina partyمِنْكُمْminkumof youنُعَذِّبْnuʿadhibWe will punishطَائِفَةًṭāifatana partyبِأَنَّهُمْbi-annahumbecause theyكَانُواkānūwereمُجْرِمِينَmuj'rimīnacriminals
  67. 67الْمُنَافِقُونَal-munāfiqūnaThe hypocrite menوَالْمُنَافِقَاتُwal-munāfiqātuand the hypocrite womenبَعْضُهُمْbaʿḍuhumsome of themمِنْmin(are) ofبَعْضٍbaʿḍinothersيَأْمُرُونَyamurūnaThey enjoinبِالْمُنْكَرِbil-munkarithe wrongوَيَنْهَوْنَwayanhawnaand forbidعَنِʿaniwhatالْمَعْرُوفِl-maʿrūfi(is) the rightوَيَقْبِضُونَwayaqbiḍūnaand they closeأَيْدِيَهُمْaydiyahumtheir handsنَسُواnasūThey forgetاللَّهَl-lahaAllahفَنَسِيَهُمْfanasiyahumso He has forgotten themإِنَّinnaIndeedالْمُنَافِقِينَl-munāfiqīnathe hypocritesهُمُhumuthey (are)الْفَاسِقُونَl-fāsiqūnathe defiantly disobedient
  68. 68وَعَدَwaʿadaAllah has promisedاللَّهُl-lahuAllah has promisedالْمُنَافِقِينَl-munāfiqīnathe hypocrite menوَالْمُنَافِقَاتِwal-munāfiqātiand the hypocrite womenوَالْكُفَّارَwal-kufāraand the disbelieversنَارَnāraFireجَهَنَّمَjahannama(of the) Hellخَالِدِينَkhālidīnathey (will) abide foreverفِيهَاfīhāin itهِيَhiyaIt (is)حَسْبُهُمْḥasbuhumsufficient for themوَلَعَنَهُمُwalaʿanahumuAnd Allah has cursed themاللَّهُl-lahuAnd Allah has cursed themوَلَهُمْwalahumand for themعَذَابٌʿadhābun(is) a punishmentمُقِيمٌmuqīmunenduring
  69. 69كَالَّذِينَka-alladhīnaLike thoseمِنْminbefore youقَبْلِكُمْqablikumbefore youكَانُواkānūthey wereأَشَدَّashaddamightierمِنْكُمْminkumthan youقُوَّةًquwwatan(in) strengthوَأَكْثَرَwa-aktharaand more abundantأَمْوَالًاamwālan(in) wealthوَأَوْلَادًاwa-awlādanand childrenفَاسْتَمْتَعُواfa-is'tamtaʿūSo they enjoyedبِخَلَاقِهِمْbikhalāqihimtheir portionفَاسْتَمْتَعْتُمْfa-is'tamtaʿtumand you have enjoyedبِخَلَاقِكُمْbikhalāqikumyour portionكَمَاkamālikeاسْتَمْتَعَis'tamtaʿaenjoyedالَّذِينَalladhīnathoseمِنْminbefore youقَبْلِكُمْqablikumbefore youبِخَلَاقِهِمْbikhalāqihimtheir portionوَخُضْتُمْwakhuḍ'tumand you indulge (in idle talk)كَالَّذِيka-alladhīlike the one whoخَاضُواkhāḍūindulges (in idle talk)أُولَئِكَulāikaThoseحَبِطَتْḥabiṭatworthlessأَعْمَالُهُمْaʿmāluhum(are) their deedsفِيinالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yāthe worldوَالْءَاخِرَةِwal-ākhiratiand (in) the Hereafterوَأُولَئِكَwa-ulāikaAnd thoseهُمُhumutheyالْخَاسِرُونَl-khāsirūna(are) the losers
  70. 70أَلَمْalamHas notيَأْتِهِمْyatihimcome to themنَبَأُnaba-u(the) newsالَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those whoمِنْmin(were) before themقَبْلِهِمْqablihim(were) before themقَوْمِqawmi(the) peopleنُوحٍnūḥin(of) Nuhوَعَادٍwaʿādinand Aadوَثَمُودَwathamūdaand Thamudوَقَوْمِwaqawmiand (the) peopleإِبْرَاهِيمَib'rāhīma(of) Ibrahimوَأَصْحَابِwa-aṣḥābiand (the) companionsمَدْيَنَmadyana(of) Madyanوَالْمُؤْتَفِكَاتِwal-mu'tafikātiand the towns overturnedأَتَتْهُمْatathumCame to themرُسُلُهُمْrusuluhumtheir Messengersبِالْبَيِّنَاتِbil-bayinātiwith clear proofsفَمَاfamāAnd notكَانَkānawasاللَّهُl-lahuAllahلِيَظْلِمَهُمْliyaẓlimahumto wrong themوَلَكِنْwalākinbutكَانُواkānūthey were toأَنْفُسَهُمْanfusahumthemselvesيَظْلِمُونَyaẓlimūnadoing wrong
  71. 71وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَwal-mu'minūnaAnd the believing menوَالْمُؤْمِنَاتُwal-mu'minātuand the believing womenبَعْضُهُمْbaʿḍuhumsome of themأَوْلِيَاءُawliyāu(are) alliesبَعْضٍbaʿḍin(of) othersيَأْمُرُونَyamurūnaThey enjoinبِالْمَعْرُوفِbil-maʿrūfithe rightوَيَنْهَوْنَwayanhawnaand forbidعَنِʿanifromالْمُنْكَرِl-munkarithe wrongوَيُقِيمُونَwayuqīmūnaand they establishالصَّلَوةَl-ṣalatathe prayerوَيُؤْتُونَwayu'tūnaand giveالزَّكَوةَl-zakatathe zakahوَيُطِيعُونَwayuṭīʿūnaand they obeyاللَّهَl-lahaAllahوَرَسُولَهُwarasūlahuand His MessengerأُولَئِكَulāikaThoseسَيَرْحَمُهُمُsayarḥamuhumuAllah will have mercy on themاللَّهُl-lahuAllah will have mercy on themإِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahعَزِيزٌʿazīzun(is) All-MightyحَكِيمٌḥakīmunAll-Wise
  72. 72وَعَدَwaʿada(Has been) promisedاللَّهُl-lahu(by) Allahالْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīna(to) the believing menوَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِwal-mu'minātiand the believing womenجَنَّاتٍjannātinGardensتَجْرِيtajrīflowمِنْminfromتَحْتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath itالْأَنْهَارُl-anhāruthe riversخَالِدِينَkhālidīna(will) abide foreverفِيهَاfīhāin itوَمَسَاكِنَwamasākinaand dwellingsطَيِّبَةًṭayyibatanblessedفِيinجَنَّاتِjannātiGardensعَدْنٍʿadnin(of) everlasting blissوَرِضْوَانٌwariḍ'wānunBut the pleasureمِنَminaofاللَّهِl-lahiAllahأَكْبَرُakbaru(is) greaterذَلِكَdhālikaThatهُوَhuwaitالْفَوْزُl-fawzu(is) the successالْعَظِيمُl-ʿaẓīmugreat
  73. 73يَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO Prophetالنَّبِيُّl-nabiyuO ProphetجَاهِدِjāhidiStrive (against)الْكُفَّارَl-kufārathe disbelieversوَالْمُنَافِقِينَwal-munāfiqīnaand the hypocritesوَاغْلُظْwa-ugh'luẓand be sternعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimwith themوَمَأْوَاهُمْwamawāhumAnd their abodeجَهَنَّمُjahannamu(is) Hellوَبِئْسَwabi'saand wretchedالْمَصِيرُl-maṣīru(is) the destination
  74. 74يَحْلِفُونَyaḥlifūnaThey swearبِاللَّهِbil-lahiby Allahمَا(that) they said nothingقَالُواqālū(that) they said nothingوَلَقَدْwalaqadwhile certainlyقَالُواqālūthey saidكَلِمَةَkalimata(the) wordالْكُفْرِl-kuf'ri(of) the disbeliefوَكَفَرُواwakafarūand disbelievedبَعْدَbaʿdaafterإِسْلَامِهِمْis'lāmihimtheir (pretense of) Islamوَهَمُّواwahammūand plannedبِمَاbimā[of] whatلَمْlamnotيَنَالُواyanālūthey could attainوَمَاwamāAnd notنَقَمُواnaqamūthey were resentfulإِلَّاillāexceptأَنْanthatأَغْنَاهُمُaghnāhumuAllah had enriched themاللَّهُl-lahuAllah had enriched themوَرَسُولُهُwarasūluhuand His MessengerمِنْminofفَضْلِهِfaḍlihiHis Bountyفَإِنْfa-inSo ifيَتُوبُواyatūbūthey repentيَكُyakuit isخَيْرًاkhayranbetterلَهُمْlahumfor themوَإِنْwa-inand ifيَتَوَلَّوْاyatawallawthey turn awayيُعَذِّبْهُمُyuʿadhib'humuAllah will punish themاللَّهُl-lahuAllah will punish themعَذَابًاʿadhāban(with) a punishmentأَلِيمًاalīmanpainfulفِيinالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yāthe worldوَالْءَاخِرَةِwal-ākhiratiand (in) the HereafterوَمَاwamāAnd notلَهُمْlahumfor themفِيinالْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthمِنْmin[of]وَلِيٍّwaliyyinany protectorوَلَاwalāand notنَصِيرٍnaṣīrinany helper
  75. 75وَمِنْهُمْwamin'humAnd among themمَنْman(is he) whoعَاهَدَʿāhadamade a covenantاللَّهَl-laha(with) Allahلَئِنْla-inIfءَاتَانَاātānāHe gives usمِنْminofفَضْلِهِfaḍlihiHis bountyلَنَصَّدَّقَنَّlanaṣṣaddaqannasurely we will give charityوَلَنَكُونَنَّwalanakūnannaand surely we will beمِنَminaamongالصَّالِحِينَl-ṣāliḥīnathe righteous
  76. 76فَلَمَّاfalammāBut whenءَاتَاهُمْātāhumHe gave themمِنْminofفَضْلِهِfaḍlihiHis Bountyبَخِلُواbakhilūthey became stingyبِهِbihiwith itوَتَوَلَّوْاwatawallawand turned awayوَهُمْwahumwhile theyمُعْرِضُونَmuʿ'riḍūna(were) averse
  77. 77فَأَعْقَبَهُمْfa-aʿqabahumSo He penalized themنِفَاقًاnifāqan(with) hypocrisyفِيinقُلُوبِهِمْqulūbihimtheir heartsإِلَىilāuntilيَوْمِyawmithe dayيَلْقَوْنَهُyalqawnahuwhen they will meet Himبِمَاbimābecauseأَخْلَفُواakhlafūthey brokeاللَّهَl-laha(the covenant) with Allahمَاwhatوَعَدُوهُwaʿadūhuthey had promised Himوَبِمَاwabimāand becauseكَانُواkānūthey used toيَكْذِبُونَyakdhibūnalie
  78. 78أَلَمْalamDo notيَعْلَمُواyaʿlamūthey knowأَنَّannathatاللَّهَl-lahaAllahيَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknowsسِرَّهُمْsirrahumtheir secretوَنَجْوَاهُمْwanajwāhumand their secret conversationوَأَنَّwa-annaand thatاللَّهَl-lahaAllahعَلَّامُʿallāmu(is) All-Knowerالْغُيُوبِl-ghuyūbi(of) the unseen
  79. 79الَّذِينَalladhīnaThose whoيَلْمِزُونَyalmizūnacriticizeالْمُطَّوِّعِينَl-muṭawiʿīnathe ones who give willinglyمِنَminaofالْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believersفِيconcerningالصَّدَقَاتِl-ṣadaqātithe charitiesوَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaand those whoلَاnotيَجِدُونَyajidūnafindإِلَّاillāexceptجُهْدَهُمْjuh'dahumtheir effortفَيَسْخَرُونَfayaskharūnaso they ridiculeمِنْهُمْmin'humthemسَخِرَsakhiraAllah will ridiculeاللَّهُl-lahuAllah will ridiculeمِنْهُمْmin'humthemوَلَهُمْwalahumand for themعَذَابٌʿadhābun(is) a punishmentأَلِيمٌalīmunpainful
  80. 80اسْتَغْفِرْis'taghfirAsk forgivenessلَهُمْlahumfor themأَوْaworلَا(do) notتَسْتَغْفِرْtastaghfirask forgivenessلَهُمْlahumfor themإِنْinIfتَسْتَغْفِرْtastaghfiryou ask forgivenessلَهُمْlahumfor themسَبْعِينَsabʿīnaseventyمَرَّةًmarratantimesفَلَنْfalanneverيَغْفِرَyaghfirawill Allah forgiveاللَّهُl-lahuwill Allah forgiveلَهُمْlahum[for] themذَلِكَdhālikaThatبِأَنَّهُمْbi-annahum(is) because theyكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelievedبِاللَّهِbil-lahiin Allahوَرَسُولِهِwarasūlihiand His Messengerوَاللَّهُwal-lahuand Allahلَا(does) notيَهْدِيyahdīguideالْقَوْمَl-qawmathe peopleالْفَاسِقِينَl-fāsiqīnathe defiantly disobedient
  81. 81فَرِحَfariḥaRejoiceالْمُخَلَّفُونَl-mukhalafūnathose who remained behindبِمَقْعَدِهِمْbimaqʿadihimin their stayingخِلَافَkhilāfabehindرَسُولِrasūli(the) Messengerاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahوَكَرِهُواwakarihūand they dislikedأَنْantoيُجَاهِدُواyujāhidūstriveبِأَمْوَالِهِمْbi-amwālihimwith their wealthوَأَنْفُسِهِمْwa-anfusihimand their livesفِيinسَبِيلِsabīli(the) wayاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahوَقَالُواwaqālūand they saidلَا(Do) notتَنْفِرُواtanfirūgo forthفِيinالْحَرِّl-ḥarithe heatقُلْqulSayنَارُnāru(The) Fireجَهَنَّمَjahannama(of) Hellأَشَدُّashaddu(is) more intenseحَرًّاḥarran(in) heatلَوْlawIf (only)كَانُواkānūthey couldيَفْقَهُونَyafqahūnaunderstand
  82. 82فَلْيَضْحَكُواfalyaḍḥakūSo let them laughقَلِيلًاqalīlana littleوَلْيَبْكُواwalyabkūand let them weepكَثِيرًاkathīranmuchجَزَاءًjazāan(as) a recompenseبِمَاbimāfor whatكَانُواkānūthey used toيَكْسِبُونَyaksibūnaearn
  83. 83فَإِنْfa-inThen ifرَجَعَكَrajaʿakaAllah returns youاللَّهُl-lahuAllah returns youإِلَىilātoطَائِفَةٍṭāifatina groupمِنْهُمْmin'humof themفَاسْتَءْذَنُوكَfa-is'tadhanūkaand they ask you permissionلِلْخُرُوجِlil'khurūjito go outفَقُلْfaqulthen sayلَنْlanNeverتَخْرُجُواtakhrujūwill you come outمَعِيَmaʿiyawith meأَبَدًاabadaneverوَلَنْwalanand neverتُقَاتِلُواtuqātilūwill you fightمَعِيَmaʿiyawith meعَدُوًّاʿaduwwanany enemyإِنَّكُمْinnakumIndeed, youرَضِيتُمْraḍītumwere satisfiedبِالْقُعُودِbil-quʿūdiwith sittingأَوَّلَawwala(the) firstمَرَّةٍmarratintimeفَاقْعُدُواfa-uq'ʿudūso sitمَعَmaʿawithالْخَالِفِينَl-khālifīnathose who stay behind
  84. 84وَلَاwalāAnd notتُصَلِّtuṣalliyou prayعَلَىʿalāforأَحَدٍaḥadinanyمِنْهُمْmin'humof themمَاتَmātawho diesأَبَدًاabadaneverوَلَاwalāand notتَقُمْtaqumyou standعَلَىʿalābyقَبْرِهِqabrihihis graveإِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed theyكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelievedبِاللَّهِbil-lahiin Allahوَرَسُولِهِwarasūlihiand His Messengerوَمَاتُواwamātūand diedوَهُمْwahumwhile they wereفَاسِقُونَfāsiqūnadefiantly disobedient
  85. 85وَلَاwalāAnd (let) notتُعْجِبْكَtuʿ'jib'kaimpress youأَمْوَالُهُمْamwāluhumtheir wealthوَأَوْلَادُهُمْwa-awlāduhumand their childrenإِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyيُرِيدُyurīduAllah intendsاللَّهُl-lahuAllah intendsأَنْantoيُعَذِّبَهُمْyuʿadhibahumpunish themبِهَاbihāwith itفِيinالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yāthe worldوَتَزْهَقَwatazhaqaand will departأَنْفُسُهُمْanfusuhumtheir soulsوَهُمْwahumwhile theyكَافِرُونَkāfirūna(are) disbelievers
  86. 86وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenأُنْزِلَتْunzilatwas revealedسُورَةٌsūratuna Surahأَنْanthatءَامِنُواāminūbelieveبِاللَّهِbil-lahiin Allahوَجَاهِدُواwajāhidūand striveمَعَmaʿawithرَسُولِهِrasūlihiHis Messengerاسْتَءْذَنَكَis'tadhanakaask your permissionأُولُواulū(the) menالطَّوْلِl-ṭawli(of) wealthمِنْهُمْmin'humamong themوَقَالُواwaqālūand saidذَرْنَاdharnāLeave usنَكُنْnakun(to) beمَعَmaʿawithالْقَاعِدِينَl-qāʿidīnathose who sit
  87. 87رَضُواraḍūThey (were) satisfiedبِأَنْbi-antoيَكُونُواyakūnūbeمَعَmaʿawithالْخَوَالِفِl-khawālifithose who stay behindوَطُبِعَwaṭubiʿaand were sealedعَلَىʿalā[on]قُلُوبِهِمْqulūbihimtheir heartsفَهُمْfahumso theyلَا(do) notيَفْقَهُونَyafqahūnaunderstand
  88. 88لَكِنِlākiniButالرَّسُولُl-rasūluthe Messengerوَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaand those whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelievedمَعَهُmaʿahuwith himجَاهَدُواjāhadūstroveبِأَمْوَالِهِمْbi-amwālihimwith their wealthوَأَنْفُسِهِمْwa-anfusihimand their livesوَأُولَئِكَwa-ulāikaAnd thoseلَهُمُlahumufor themالْخَيْرَاتُl-khayrātu(are) the good thingsوَأُولَئِكَwa-ulāikaand thoseهُمُhumutheyالْمُفْلِحُونَl-muf'liḥūna(are) the successful ones
  89. 89أَعَدَّaʿaddaAllah has preparedاللَّهُl-lahuAllah has preparedلَهُمْlahumfor themجَنَّاتٍjannātinGardensتَجْرِيtajrīflowsمِنْminfromتَحْتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath itالْأَنْهَارُl-anhāruthe riversخَالِدِينَkhālidīna(will) abide foreverفِيهَاfīhāin itذَلِكَdhālikaThatالْفَوْزُl-fawzu(is) the successالْعَظِيمُl-ʿaẓīmuthe great
  90. 90وَجَاءَwajāaAnd cameالْمُعَذِّرُونَl-muʿadhirūnathe ones who make excusesمِنَminaofالْأَعْرَابِl-aʿrābithe bedouinsلِيُؤْذَنَliyu'dhanathat permission be grantedلَهُمْlahumto themوَقَعَدَwaqaʿadaand satالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَذَبُواkadhabūliedاللَّهَl-laha(to) Allahوَرَسُولَهُwarasūlahuand His MessengerسَيُصِيبُsayuṣībuWill strikeالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُواkafarūdisbelievedمِنْهُمْmin'humamong themعَذَابٌʿadhābuna punishmentأَلِيمٌalīmunpainful
  91. 91لَيْسَlaysaNotعَلَىʿalāonالضُّعَفَاءِl-ḍuʿafāithe weakوَلَاwalāand notعَلَىʿalāonالْمَرْضَىl-marḍāthe sickوَلَاwalāand notعَلَىʿalāonالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoلَاnotيَجِدُونَyajidūnathey findمَاwhatيُنْفِقُونَyunfiqūnathey (can) spendحَرَجٌḥarajunany blameإِذَاidhāifنَصَحُواnaṣaḥūthey (are) sincereلِلَّهِlillahito Allahوَرَسُولِهِwarasūlihiand His MessengerمَاNotعَلَىʿalā(is) onالْمُحْسِنِينَl-muḥ'sinīnathe good-doersمِنْmin[of]سَبِيلٍsabīlinany way (for blame)وَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahغَفُورٌghafūrun(is) Oft-ForgivingرَحِيمٌraḥīmunMost Merciful
  92. 92وَلَاwalāAnd notعَلَىʿalāonالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoإِذَاidhāwhenمَاwhenأَتَوْكَatawkathey came to youلِتَحْمِلَهُمْlitaḥmilahumthat you provide them with mountsقُلْتَqul'tayou saidلَاNotأَجِدُajiduI findمَاwhatأَحْمِلُكُمْaḥmilukumto mount youعَلَيْهِʿalayhion [it]تَوَلَّوْاtawallawThey turned backوَأَعْيُنُهُمْwa-aʿyunuhumwith their eyesتَفِيضُtafīḍuflowingمِنَmina[of]الدَّمْعِl-damʿi(with) the tearsحَزَنًاḥazanan(of) sorrowأَلَّاallāthat notيَجِدُواyajidūthey findمَاwhatيُنْفِقُونَyunfiqūnathey (could) spend
  93. 93إِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyالسَّبِيلُl-sabīluthe way (blame)عَلَىʿalā(is) onالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoيَسْتَءْذِنُونَكَyastadhinūnakaask your permissionوَهُمْwahumwhile theyأَغْنِيَاءُaghniyāu(are) richرَضُواraḍūThey (are) satisfiedبِأَنْbi-antoيَكُونُواyakūnūbeمَعَmaʿawithالْخَوَالِفِl-khawālifithose who stay behindوَطَبَعَwaṭabaʿaand Allah sealedاللَّهُl-lahuand Allah sealedعَلَىʿalā[on]قُلُوبِهِمْqulūbihimtheir heartsفَهُمْfahumso theyلَا(do) notيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknow
  94. 94يَعْتَذِرُونَyaʿtadhirūnaThey will make excusesإِلَيْكُمْilaykumto youإِذَاidhāwhenرَجَعْتُمْrajaʿtumyou (have) returnedإِلَيْهِمْilayhimto themقُلْqulSayلَا(Do) notتَعْتَذِرُواtaʿtadhirūmake excuseلَنْlanneverنُؤْمِنَnu'minawe will believeلَكُمْlakumyouقَدْqadVerilyنَبَّأَنَاnabba-anāAllah (has) informed usاللَّهُl-lahuAllah (has) informed usمِنْminofأَخْبَارِكُمْakhbārikumyour newsوَسَيَرَىwasayarāand Allah will seeاللَّهُl-lahuand Allah will seeعَمَلَكُمْʿamalakumyour deedsوَرَسُولُهُwarasūluhuand His MessengerثُمَّthummaThenتُرَدُّونَturaddūnayou will be brought backإِلَىilātoعَالِمِʿālimi(the) Knowerالْغَيْبِl-ghaybi(of) the unseenوَالشَّهَادَةِwal-shahādatiand the seenفَيُنَبِّئُكُمْfayunabbi-ukumthen He will inform youبِمَاbimāof whatكُنْتُمْkuntumyou used (to)تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnado
  95. 95سَيَحْلِفُونَsayaḥlifūnaThey will swearبِاللَّهِbil-lahiby Allahلَكُمْlakumto youإِذَاidhāwhenانْقَلَبْتُمْinqalabtumyou returnedإِلَيْهِمْilayhimto themلِتُعْرِضُواlituʿ'riḍūthat you may turn awayعَنْهُمْʿanhumfrom themفَأَعْرِضُواfa-aʿriḍūSo turn awayعَنْهُمْʿanhumfrom themإِنَّهُمْinnahumindeed theyرِجْسٌrij'sun(are) impureوَمَأْوَاهُمْwamawāhumand their abodeجَهَنَّمُjahannamu(is) Hellجَزَاءًjazāana recompenseبِمَاbimāfor whatكَانُواkānūthey used (to)يَكْسِبُونَyaksibūnaearn
  96. 96يَحْلِفُونَyaḥlifūnaThey swearلَكُمْlakumto youلِتَرْضَوْاlitarḍawthat you may be pleasedعَنْهُمْʿanhumwith themفَإِنْfa-inBut ifتَرْضَوْاtarḍawyou are pleasedعَنْهُمْʿanhumwith themفَإِنَّfa-innathen indeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahلَا(is) not pleasedيَرْضَىyarḍā(is) not pleasedعَنِʿaniwithالْقَوْمِl-qawmithe peopleالْفَاسِقِينَl-fāsiqīna(who are) defiantly disobedient
  97. 97الْأَعْرَابُal-aʿrābuThe bedouinsأَشَدُّashaddu(are) strongerكُفْرًاkuf'ran(in) disbeliefوَنِفَاقًاwanifāqanand hypocrisyوَأَجْدَرُwa-ajdaruand more likelyأَلَّاallāthat notيَعْلَمُواyaʿlamūthey knowحُدُودَḥudūda(the) limitsمَا(of) whatأَنْزَلَanzalaAllah (has) revealedاللَّهُl-lahuAllah (has) revealedعَلَىʿalātoرَسُولِهِrasūlihiHis Messengerوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahعَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) All-KnowerحَكِيمٌḥakīmunAll-Wise
  98. 98وَمِنَwaminaAnd amongالْأَعْرَابِl-aʿrābithe bedouinsمَنْman(is he) whoيَتَّخِذُyattakhidhutakesمَاwhatيُنْفِقُyunfiquhe spendsمَغْرَمًاmaghraman(as) a lossوَيَتَرَبَّصُwayatarabbaṣuand he awaitsبِكُمُbikumufor youالدَّوَائِرَl-dawāirathe turns (of misfortune)عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimUpon themدَائِرَةُdāiratu(will be) the turnالسَّوْءِl-sawi(of) the evilوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahسَمِيعٌsamīʿun(is) All-HearerعَلِيمٌʿalīmunAll-Knower
  99. 99وَمِنَwaminaBut amongالْأَعْرَابِl-aʿrābithe bedouinsمَنْman(is he) whoيُؤْمِنُyu'minubelievesبِاللَّهِbil-lahiin Allahوَالْيَوْمِwal-yawmiand the Dayالْءَاخِرِl-ākhirithe Lastوَيَتَّخِذُwayattakhidhuand takesمَاwhatيُنْفِقُyunfiquhe spendsقُرُبَاتٍqurubātin(as) means of nearnessعِنْدَʿindawithاللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَصَلَوَاتِwaṣalawātiand blessingsالرَّسُولِl-rasūli(of) the MessengerأَلَاalāBeholdإِنَّهَاinnahāIndeed, itقُرْبَةٌqur'batun(is) a means of nearnessلَهُمْlahumfor themسَيُدْخِلُهُمُsayud'khiluhumuAllah will admit themاللَّهُl-lahuAllah will admit themفِيtoرَحْمَتِهِraḥmatihiHis MercyإِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahغَفُورٌghafūrun(is) Oft-ForgivingرَحِيمٌraḥīmunMost Merciful
  100. 100وَالسَّابِقُونَwal-sābiqūnaAnd the forerunnersالْأَوَّلُونَl-awalūnathe firstمِنَminaamongالْمُهَاجِرِينَl-muhājirīnathe emigrantsوَالْأَنْصَارِwal-anṣāriand the helpersوَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaand those whoاتَّبَعُوهُمْittabaʿūhumfollowed themبِإِحْسَانٍbi-iḥ'sāninin righteousnessرَضِيَraḍiyaAllah is pleasedاللَّهُl-lahuAllah is pleasedعَنْهُمْʿanhumwith themوَرَضُواwaraḍūand they are pleasedعَنْهُʿanhuwith Himوَأَعَدَّwa-aʿaddaAnd He has preparedلَهُمْlahumfor themجَنَّاتٍjannātinGardensتَجْرِيtajrīflowsتَحْتَهَاtaḥtahāunderneath itالْأَنْهَارُl-anhāruthe riversخَالِدِينَkhālidīnawill abideفِيهَاfīhāin itأَبَدًاabadanforeverذَلِكَdhālikaThatالْفَوْزُl-fawzu(is) the successالْعَظِيمُl-ʿaẓīmuthe great
  101. 101وَمِمَّنْwamimmanAnd among thoseحَوْلَكُمْḥawlakumaround youمِنَminaofالْأَعْرَابِl-aʿrābithe bedouinsمُنَافِقُونَmunāfiqūna(are) hypocritesوَمِنْwaminand (also) fromأَهْلِahlipeopleالْمَدِينَةِl-madīnati(of) the MadinahمَرَدُواmaradūThey persistعَلَىʿalāinالنِّفَاقِl-nifāqithe hypocrisyلَاnotتَعْلَمُهُمْtaʿlamuhumyou know themنَحْنُnaḥnuWeنَعْلَمُهُمْnaʿlamuhum[We] know themسَنُعَذِّبُهُمْsanuʿadhibuhumWe will punish themمَرَّتَيْنِmarrataynitwiceثُمَّthummathenيُرَدُّونَyuraddūnathey will be returnedإِلَىilātoعَذَابٍʿadhābina punishmentعَظِيمٍʿaẓīmingreat
  102. 102وَءَاخَرُونَwaākharūnaAnd othersاعْتَرَفُواiʿ'tarafū(who have) acknowledgedبِذُنُوبِهِمْbidhunūbihimtheir sinsخَلَطُواkhalaṭūThey had mixedعَمَلًاʿamalana deedصَالِحًاṣāliḥanrighteousوَءَاخَرَwaākhara(with) otherسَيِّئًاsayyi-an(that was) evilعَسَىʿasāPerhapsاللَّهُl-lahuAllahأَنْan[that]يَتُوبَyatūbawill turn (in mercy)عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimto themإِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahغَفُورٌghafūrun(is) Oft-ForgivingرَحِيمٌraḥīmunMost Merciful
  103. 103خُذْkhudhTakeمِنْminfromأَمْوَالِهِمْamwālihimtheir wealthصَدَقَةًṣadaqatana charityتُطَهِّرُهُمْtuṭahhiruhumpurifying themوَتُزَكِّيهِمْwatuzakkīhimand cause them increaseبِهَاbihāby itوَصَلِّwaṣalliand blessعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhim[upon] themإِنَّinnaIndeedصَلَوَتَكَṣalatakayour blessingsسَكَنٌsakanun(are a) reassuranceلَهُمْlahumfor themوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahسَمِيعٌsamīʿun(is) All-HearerعَلِيمٌʿalīmunAll-Knower
  104. 104أَلَمْalamDo notيَعْلَمُواyaʿlamūthey knowأَنَّannathatاللَّهَl-lahaAllahهُوَhuwa(is) Heيَقْبَلُyaqbalu(Who) acceptsالتَّوْبَةَl-tawbatathe repentanceعَنْʿanfromعِبَادِهِʿibādihiHis slavesوَيَأْخُذُwayakhudhuand takesالصَّدَقَاتِl-ṣadaqātithe charitiesوَأَنَّwa-annaand thatاللَّهَl-lahaAllahهُوَhuwaHeالتَّوَّابُl-tawābu(is) the Acceptor of repentanceالرَّحِيمُl-raḥīmuthe Most Merciful
  105. 105وَقُلِwaquliAnd sayاعْمَلُواiʿ'malūDoفَسَيَرَىfasayarāthen Allah will seeاللَّهُl-lahuthen Allah will seeعَمَلَكُمْʿamalakumyour deedوَرَسُولُهُwarasūluhuand His Messengerوَالْمُؤْمِنُونَwal-mu'minūnaand the believersوَسَتُرَدُّونَwasaturaddūnaAnd you will be brought backإِلَىilātoعَالِمِʿālimi(the) Knowerالْغَيْبِl-ghaybi(of) the unseenوَالشَّهَادَةِwal-shahādatiand the seenفَيُنَبِّئُكُمْfayunabbi-ukumthen He will inform youبِمَاbimāof whatكُنْتُمْkuntumyou used (to)تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnado
  106. 106وَءَاخَرُونَwaākharūnaAnd othersمُرْجَوْنَmur'jawnadeferredلِأَمْرِli-amrifor the Command of Allahاللَّهِl-lahifor the Command of AllahإِمَّاimmāwhetherيُعَذِّبُهُمْyuʿadhibuhumHe will punish themوَإِمَّاwa-immāorيَتُوبُyatūbuHe will turn (in mercy)عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimto themوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahعَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) All-KnowerحَكِيمٌḥakīmunAll-Wise
  107. 107وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoاتَّخَذُواittakhadhūtakeمَسْجِدًاmasjidana masjidضِرَارًاḍirāran(for causing) harmوَكُفْرًاwakuf'ranand (for) disbeliefوَتَفْرِيقًاwatafrīqanand (for) divisionبَيْنَbaynaamongالْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believersوَإِرْصَادًاwa-ir'ṣādanand (as) a stationلِمَنْlimanfor whoeverحَارَبَḥārabawarredاللَّهَl-laha(against) Allahوَرَسُولَهُwarasūlahuand His MessengerمِنْminbeforeقَبْلُqablubeforeوَلَيَحْلِفُنَّwalayaḥlifunnaAnd surely they will swearإِنْinNotأَرَدْنَاaradnāwe wishإِلَّاillāexceptالْحُسْنَىl-ḥus'nāthe goodوَاللَّهُwal-lahuBut Allahيَشْهَدُyashhadubears witnessإِنَّهُمْinnahumindeed, theyلَكَاذِبُونَlakādhibūna(are) surely liars
  108. 108لَا(Do) notتَقُمْtaqumstandفِيهِfīhiin itأَبَدًاabadaneverلَمَسْجِدٌlamasjidunA masjidأُسِّسَussisafoundedعَلَىʿalāonالتَّقْوَىl-taqwāthe righteousnessمِنْminfromأَوَّلِawwali(the) firstيَوْمٍyawmindayأَحَقُّaḥaqqu(is) more worthyأَنْanthatتَقُومَtaqūmayou standفِيهِfīhiin itفِيهِfīhiWithin itرِجَالٌrijālun(are) menيُحِبُّونَyuḥibbūnawho loveأَنْantoيَتَطَهَّرُواyataṭahharūpurify themselvesوَاللَّهُwal-lahuand Allahيُحِبُّyuḥibbulovesالْمُطَّهِّرِينَl-muṭahirīnathe ones who purify themselves
  109. 109أَفَمَنْafamanThen is (one) whoأَسَّسَassasafoundedبُنْيَانَهُbun'yānahuhis buildingعَلَىʿalāonتَقْوَىtaqwārighteousnessمِنَminafromاللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَرِضْوَانٍwariḍ'wāninand (His) pleasureخَيْرٌkhayrunbetterأَمْamorمَنْman(one) whoأَسَّسَassasafoundedبُنْيَانَهُbun'yānahuhis buildingعَلَىʿalāonشَفَاshafāedgeجُرُفٍjurufin(of) a cliffهَارٍhārin(about to) collapseفَانْهَارَfa-in'hāraso it collapsedبِهِbihiwith himفِيinنَارِnāri(the) Fireجَهَنَّمَjahannama(of) Hellوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahلَا(does) notيَهْدِيyahdīguideالْقَوْمَl-qawmathe wrongdoing peopleالظَّالِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoing people
  110. 110لَاNotيَزَالُyazālu(will) ceaseبُنْيَانُهُمُbun'yānuhumutheir buildingالَّذِيalladhīwhichبَنَوْاbanawthey builtرِيبَةًrībatana (cause of) doubtفِيinقُلُوبِهِمْqulūbihimtheir heartsإِلَّاillāexceptأَنْanthatتَقَطَّعَtaqaṭṭaʿa(are) cut into piecesقُلُوبُهُمْqulūbuhumtheir heartsوَاللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahعَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) All-KnowerحَكِيمٌḥakīmunAll-Wise
  111. 111إِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahاشْتَرَىish'tarā(has) purchasedمِنَminafromالْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believersأَنْفُسَهُمْanfusahumtheir livesوَأَمْوَالَهُمْwa-amwālahumand their wealthبِأَنَّbi-annabecauseلَهُمُlahumufor themالْجَنَّةَl-janata(is) ParadiseيُقَاتِلُونَyuqātilūnaThey fightفِيinسَبِيلِsabīli(the) wayاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahفَيَقْتُلُونَfayaqtulūnathey slayوَيُقْتَلُونَwayuq'talūnaand they are slainوَعْدًاwaʿdanA promiseعَلَيْهِʿalayhiupon Himحَقًّاḥaqqantrueفِيinالتَّوْرَاةِl-tawrātithe Tauratوَالْإِنْجِيلِwal-injīliand the Injeelوَالْقُرْءَانِwal-qur'āniand the QuranوَمَنْwamanAnd whoأَوْفَىawfā(is) more faithfulبِعَهْدِهِbiʿahdihito his promiseمِنَminathanاللَّهِl-lahiAllahفَاسْتَبْشِرُواfa-is'tabshirūSo rejoiceبِبَيْعِكُمُbibayʿikumuin your transactionالَّذِيalladhīwhichبَايَعْتُمْbāyaʿtumyou have contractedبِهِbihi[with it]وَذَلِكَwadhālikaAnd thatهُوَhuwaitالْفَوْزُl-fawzu(is) the successالْعَظِيمُl-ʿaẓīmuthe great
  112. 112التَّائِبُونَal-tāibūnaThose who turn in repentanceالْعَابِدُونَl-ʿābidūnathose who worshipالْحَامِدُونَl-ḥāmidūnathose who praiseالسَّائِحُونَl-sāiḥūnathose who go outالرَّاكِعُونَl-rākiʿūnathose who bow downالسَّاجِدُونَl-sājidūnathose who prostrateالْءَامِرُونَl-āmirūnathose who enjoinبِالْمَعْرُوفِbil-maʿrūfithe rightوَالنَّاهُونَwal-nāhūnaand those who forbidعَنِʿani[on]الْمُنْكَرِl-munkarithe wrongوَالْحَافِظُونَwal-ḥāfiẓūnaand those who observeلِحُدُودِliḥudūdi(the) limitsاللَّهِl-lahi(of) AllahوَبَشِّرِwabashiriAnd give glad tidingsالْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīna(to) the believers
  113. 113مَاNotكَانَkāna(it) isلِلنَّبِيِّlilnnabiyyifor the Prophetوَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaand those whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveأَنْanthatيَسْتَغْفِرُواyastaghfirūthey ask forgivenessلِلْمُشْرِكِينَlil'mush'rikīnafor the polytheistsوَلَوْwalaweven thoughكَانُواkānūthey beأُولِيulīnear of kinقُرْبَىqur'bānear of kinمِنْminafterبَعْدِbaʿdiafterمَا[what]تَبَيَّنَtabayyanahas become clearلَهُمْlahumto themأَنَّهُمْannahumthat theyأَصْحَابُaṣḥābu(are the) companionsالْجَحِيمِl-jaḥīmi(of) the Hellfire
  114. 114وَمَاwamāAnd notكَانَkānawasاسْتِغْفَارُis'tigh'fāru(the) asking of forgivenessإِبْرَاهِيمَib'rāhīma(by) Ibrahimلِأَبِيهِli-abīhifor his fatherإِلَّاillāexceptعَنْʿanbecauseمَوْعِدَةٍmawʿidatin(of) a promiseوَعَدَهَاwaʿadahāhe had promised itإِيَّاهُiyyāhu(to) himفَلَمَّاfalammāBut whenتَبَيَّنَtabayyanait became clearلَهُlahuto himأَنَّهُannahuthat heعَدُوٌّʿaduwwun(was) an enemyلِلَّهِlillahito Allahتَبَرَّأَtabarra-ahe disassociatedمِنْهُmin'hufrom himإِنَّinnaIndeedإِبْرَاهِيمَib'rāhīmaIbrahimلَأَوَّاهٌla-awwāhun(was) compassionateحَلِيمٌḥalīmunforbearing
  115. 115وَمَاwamāAnd notكَانَkānaisاللَّهُl-lahu(for) Allahلِيُضِلَّliyuḍillathat He lets go astrayقَوْمًاqawmana peopleبَعْدَbaʿdaafterإِذْidh[when]هَدَاهُمْhadāhumHe has guided themحَتَّىḥattāuntilيُبَيِّنَyubayyinaHe makes clearلَهُمْlahumto themمَاwhatيَتَّقُونَyattaqūnathey should fearإِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahبِكُلِّbikulli(of) everyشَيْءٍshayinthingعَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) All-Knower
  116. 116إِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahلَهُlahuto Him (belongs)مُلْكُmul'kuthe dominionالسَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavensوَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthيُحْيِيyuḥ'yīHe gives lifeوَيُمِيتُwayumītuand He causes deathوَمَاwamāAnd notلَكُمْlakumfor youمِنْminbesides Allahدُونِdūnibesides Allahاللَّهِl-lahibesides Allahمِنْminanyوَلِيٍّwaliyyinprotectorوَلَاwalāand notنَصِيرٍnaṣīrinany helper
  117. 117لَقَدْlaqadVerilyتَابَtābaAllah turned (in mercy)اللَّهُl-lahuAllah turned (in mercy)عَلَىʿalātoالنَّبِيِّl-nabiyithe Prophetوَالْمُهَاجِرِينَwal-muhājirīnaand the emigrantsوَالْأَنْصَارِwal-anṣāriand the helpersالَّذِينَalladhīna[those] whoاتَّبَعُوهُittabaʿūhufollowed himفِيinسَاعَةِsāʿati(the) hourالْعُسْرَةِl-ʿus'rati(of) difficultyمِنْminafterبَعْدِbaʿdiafterمَا[what]كَادَkādahad nearlyيَزِيغُyazīghudeviatedقُلُوبُqulūbu(the) heartsفَرِيقٍfarīqin(of) a partyمِنْهُمْmin'humof themثُمَّthummathenتَابَtābaHe turned (in mercy)عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimto themإِنَّهُinnahuIndeed, Heبِهِمْbihimto themرَءُوفٌraūfun(is) Most KindرَحِيمٌraḥīmunMost Merciful
  118. 118وَعَلَىwaʿalāAnd onالثَّلَاثَةِl-thalāthatithe threeالَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those whoخُلِّفُواkhullifūwere left behindحَتَّىḥattāuntilإِذَاidhāwhenضَاقَتْḍāqat(was) straitenedعَلَيْهِمُʿalayhimufor themالْأَرْضُl-arḍuthe earthبِمَاbimāthoughرَحُبَتْraḥubatit was vastوَضَاقَتْwaḍāqatAnd (was) straitenedعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimfor themأَنْفُسُهُمْanfusuhumtheir own soulsوَظَنُّواwaẓannūand they were certainأَنْanthatلَا(there is) noمَلْجَأَmalja-arefugeمِنَminafromاللَّهِl-lahiAllahإِلَّاillāexceptإِلَيْهِilayhito HimثُمَّthummaThenتَابَtābaHe turned (in mercy)عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimto themلِيَتُوبُواliyatūbūthat they may repentإِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahهُوَhuwaHeالتَّوَّابُl-tawābu(is) the Acceptor of repentanceالرَّحِيمُl-raḥīmuthe Most Merciful
  119. 119يَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you who believeالَّذِينَalladhīnaO you who believeءَامَنُواāmanūO you who believeاتَّقُواittaqūFearاللَّهَl-lahaAllahوَكُونُواwakūnūand beمَعَmaʿawithالصَّادِقِينَl-ṣādiqīnathose who are truthful
  120. 120مَاNotكَانَkānait wasلِأَهْلِli-ahli(for) the peopleالْمَدِينَةِl-madīnatiof the Madinahوَمَنْwamanand whoحَوْلَهُمْḥawlahumwere around themمِنَminaofالْأَعْرَابِl-aʿrābithe bedouinsأَنْanthatيَتَخَلَّفُواyatakhallafūthey remain behindعَنْʿanafterرَسُولِrasūlithe Messengerاللَّهِl-lahiof Allahوَلَاwalāand notيَرْغَبُواyarghabūthey preferبِأَنْفُسِهِمْbi-anfusihimtheir livesعَنْʿantoنَفْسِهِnafsihihis lifeذَلِكَdhālikaThat isبِأَنَّهُمْbi-annahumbecause [they]لَا(does) notيُصِيبُهُمْyuṣībuhumafflict themظَمَأٌẓama-onthirstوَلَاwalāand notنَصَبٌnaṣabunfatigueوَلَاwalāand notمَخْمَصَةٌmakhmaṣatunhungerفِيinسَبِيلِsabīli(the) wayاللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahوَلَاwalāand notيَطَئُونَyaṭaūnathey stepمَوْطِئًاmawṭi-anany stepيَغِيظُyaghīẓuthat angersالْكُفَّارَl-kufārathe disbelieversوَلَاwalāand notيَنَالُونَyanālūnathey inflictمِنْminonعَدُوٍّʿaduwwinan enemyنَيْلًاnaylanan inflictionإِلَّاillāexceptكُتِبَkutibais recordedلَهُمْlahumfor themبِهِbihiin itعَمَلٌʿamalun(as) a deedصَالِحٌṣāliḥunrighteousإِنَّinnaIndeedاللَّهَl-lahaAllahلَا(does) notيُضِيعُyuḍīʿuallow to be lostأَجْرَajrathe rewardالْمُحْسِنِينَl-muḥ'sinīna(of) the good-doers
  121. 121وَلَاwalāAnd notيُنْفِقُونَyunfiqūnathey spendنَفَقَةًnafaqatanany spendingصَغِيرَةًṣaghīratansmallوَلَاwalāand notكَبِيرَةًkabīratanbigوَلَاwalāand notيَقْطَعُونَyaqṭaʿūnathey crossوَادِيًاwādiyana valleyإِلَّاillābutكُتِبَkutibais recordedلَهُمْlahumfor themلِيَجْزِيَهُمُliyajziyahumuthat Allah may reward themاللَّهُl-lahuthat Allah may reward themأَحْسَنَaḥsanathe bestمَا(of) whatكَانُواkānūthey used (to)يَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūnado
  122. 122وَمَاwamāAnd notكَانَkānaisالْمُؤْمِنُونَl-mu'minūna(for) the believersلِيَنْفِرُواliyanfirūthat they go forthكَافَّةًkāffatanall togetherفَلَوْلَاfalawlāSo if notنَفَرَnafarago forthمِنْminfromكُلِّkullieveryفِرْقَةٍfir'qatingroupمِنْهُمْmin'humamong themطَائِفَةٌṭāifatuna partyلِيَتَفَقَّهُواliyatafaqqahūthat they may obtain understandingفِيinالدِّينِl-dīnithe religionوَلِيُنْذِرُواwaliyundhirūand that they may warnقَوْمَهُمْqawmahumtheir peopleإِذَاidhāwhenرَجَعُواrajaʿūthey returnإِلَيْهِمْilayhimto themلَعَلَّهُمْlaʿallahumso that they mayيَحْذَرُونَyaḥdharūnabeware
  123. 123يَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO (you who)الَّذِينَalladhīna(O) you whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveقَاتِلُواqātilūFightالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoيَلُونَكُمْyalūnakum(are) close to youمِنَminaofالْكُفَّارِl-kufārithe disbelieversوَلْيَجِدُواwalyajidūand let them findفِيكُمْfīkumin youغِلْظَةًghil'ẓatanharshnessوَاعْلَمُواwa-iʿ'lamūAnd knowأَنَّannathatاللَّهَl-lahaAllahمَعَmaʿa(is) withالْمُتَّقِينَl-mutaqīnathose who fear (Him)
  124. 124وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd wheneverمَاAnd wheneverأُنْزِلَتْunzilatis revealedسُورَةٌsūratuna Surahفَمِنْهُمْfamin'humamong themمَنْman(are some) whoيَقُولُyaqūlusayأَيُّكُمْayyukumWhich of youزَادَتْهُzādathu(has) increased [it]هَذِهِhādhihi(by) thisإِيمَانًاīmānan(in) faithفَأَمَّاfa-ammāAs forالَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُواāmanūbelieveفَزَادَتْهُمْfazādathumthen it has increased themإِيمَانًاīmānan(in) faithوَهُمْwahumand theyيَسْتَبْشِرُونَyastabshirūnarejoice
  125. 125وَأَمَّاwa-ammāBut as forالَّذِينَalladhīnathoseفِيinقُلُوبِهِمْqulūbihimtheir heartsمَرَضٌmaraḍun(is) a diseaseفَزَادَتْهُمْfazādathum(it) increases themرِجْسًاrij'san(in) evilإِلَىilātoرِجْسِهِمْrij'sihimtheir evilوَمَاتُواwamātūAnd they dieوَهُمْwahumwhile theyكَافِرُونَkāfirūna(are) disbelievers
  126. 126أَوَلَاawalāDo notيَرَوْنَyarawnathey seeأَنَّهُمْannahumthat theyيُفْتَنُونَyuf'tanūnaare triedفِي[in]كُلِّkullieveryعَامٍʿāminyearمَرَّةًmarratanonceأَوْaworمَرَّتَيْنِmarrataynitwiceثُمَّthummaYetلَاnotيَتُوبُونَyatūbūnathey turn (in repentance)وَلَاwalāand notهُمْhumtheyيَذَّكَّرُونَyadhakkarūnapay heed
  127. 127وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd wheneverمَاAnd wheneverأُنْزِلَتْunzilatis revealedسُورَةٌsūratuna Surahنَظَرَnaẓaralookبَعْضُهُمْbaʿḍuhumsome of themإِلَىilātoبَعْضٍbaʿḍinothersهَلْhalDoesيَرَاكُمْyarākumsee youمِنْminanyأَحَدٍaḥadinoneثُمَّthummaThenانْصَرَفُواinṣarafūthey turn awayصَرَفَṣarafaAllah has turned awayاللَّهُl-lahuAllah has turned awayقُلُوبَهُمْqulūbahumtheir heartsبِأَنَّهُمْbi-annahumbecause theyقَوْمٌqawmun(are) a peopleلَاnotيَفْقَهُونَyafqahūnathey understand
  128. 128لَقَدْlaqadCertainlyجَاءَكُمْjāakum(has) come to youرَسُولٌrasūluna MessengerمِنْminfromأَنْفُسِكُمْanfusikumyourselvesعَزِيزٌʿazīzunGrievousعَلَيْهِʿalayhito himمَا(is) whatعَنِتُّمْʿanittumyou sufferحَرِيصٌḥarīṣun(he is) concernedعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumover youبِالْمُؤْمِنِينَbil-mu'minīnato the believersرَءُوفٌraūfun(he is) kindرَحِيمٌraḥīmun(and) merciful
  129. 129فَإِنْfa-inBut ifتَوَلَّوْاtawallawthey turn awayفَقُلْfaqulthen sayحَسْبِيَḥasbiyaSufficient for meاللَّهُl-lahu(is) Allahلَا(There is) noإِلَهَilāhagodإِلَّاillāexceptهُوَhuwaHimعَلَيْهِʿalayhiOn HimتَوَكَّلْتُtawakkaltuI put my trustوَهُوَwahuwaAnd Heرَبُّrabbu(is the) Lordالْعَرْشِl-ʿarshi(of) the Throneالْعَظِيمِl-ʿaẓīmithe Great
