5. 5ἀκούωνakouōnhearingσουsouof yourτὴνtēn<the>ἀγάπηνagapēnloveκαὶkaiandτὴνtēntheπίστινpistinfaithἣνhēnthatἔχειςecheisyou haveτὸνtontheκύριονkurionLordἸησοῦνIēsounJesusκαὶkaiandεἰςeistowardπάνταςpantasallτοὺςtoustheἁγίους,hagioussaints,
6. 6ὅπωςhopōsso thatἡhētheκοινωνίαkoinōniafellowshipτῆςtēsof theπίστεώςpisteōsfaithσουsouof youἐνεργὴςenergēseffectiveγένηταιgenētaimay becomeἐνeninἐπιγνώσειepignōsei[the] acknowledgmentπαντὸςpantosof everyἀγαθοῦagathougood [thing]τοῦtouthat [is]ἐνeninεἰςeisinΧριστόνChristonChristἸησοῦν.IēsounJesus.
7. 7γὰρgarforπολλὴνpollēngreatκαὶkaiandπαράκλησινparaklēsinencouragementἐπὶepiby occasion ofτῇtēatheἀγάπῃagapēloveσου,souof you,ὅτιhotibecauseτὰtatheσπλάγχναsplagchnaheartsτῶνtōnof theἁγίωνhagiōnsaintsἀναπέπαυταιanapepautaihave been refreshedδιὰdiathroughσοῦ,souyou,ἀδελφέ.¶adelphebrother.

9. 9διὰdiafor the sake ofτὴνtēn<the>ἀγάπηνagapēnloveμᾶλλονmallonratherπαρακαλῶ,parakalōI exhort [you],τοιοῦτοςtoioutossuch a oneὢνōnbeingὡςhōsasΠαῦλοςPaulosPaulπρεσβύτηςpresbutēsagedνυνὶnuninowδὲdethenκαὶkaialsoδέσμιοςdesmiosa prisonerΧριστοῦChristouof ChristἸησοῦ·IēsouJesus;
10. 10παρακαλῶparakalōI exhortσεseyouπερὶperiforτοῦtou<the>ἐμοῦemoumyτέκνουteknouchildὃνhonwhomἐγέννησαegennēsaI have begottenἐνeninτοῖςtoistheδεσμοῖςdesmoischainsμου,mouof mineὈνήσιμον,OnēsimonOnesimus,

12. 12ὃνhonwhomἀνέπεμψάanepempsaI have sent backδὲdenowαὐτόν,autonin person —τοῦτ᾽tout᾽whoἔστινestinisτὰta<the>ἐμὰemamyσπλάγχναsplagchnavery heart —προσλαβοῦ.proslaboudo yourself receive.
13. 13ὃνhonwhomἐγὼegōI myselfἐβουλόμηνeboulomēnwas wishingπρὸςproswithἐμαυτὸνemautonmyselfκατέχειν,katecheinto keep,ἵναinaso thatὑπὲρhuperon behalf ofσοῦsouyouμοιmoimeδιακονῇdiakonēahe may serveἐνeninτοῖςtoistheδεσμοῖςdesmoischainsτοῦtouof theεὐαγγελίου·euangeliougospel;
14. 14χωρὶςchōrisApart fromδὲdehoweverτῆςtēs<the>σῆςsēsyourγνώμηςgnōmēsconsentοὐδὲνoudenno [thing]ἠθέλησαēthelēsaI wishedποιῆσαι,poiēsaito do,ἵναinaso thatμὴmēnotὡςhōsasκατὰkataaccording toἀνάγκηνanagkēnnecessityτὸtotheἀγαθόνagathongoodσουsouof youᾖēmay beἀλλὰallabutκατὰkataaccording toἑκούσιον.hekousionwillingness.
15. 15τάχαtachaPerhapsγὰρgarforδιὰdiabecause ofτοῦτοtoutothisἐχωρίσθηechōristhēhe was separated [from you]πρὸςprosforὥραν,hōrana time,ἵναinaso thatαἰώνιονaiōnioneternallyαὐτὸνautonhimἀπέχῃς·apechēsyou may possess;
16. 16οὐκέτιouketino longerὡςhōsasδοῦλονdoulona slaveἀλλ᾽all᾽butὑπὲρhuperaboveδοῦλον,doulona slave,ἀδελφὸνadelphona brotherἀγαπητόν,agapētonbeloved,μάλισταmalistaespeciallyἐμοί,emoito me myself,πόσῳposōhow muchδὲdehoweverμᾶλλονmallonmoreσοὶsoito youκαὶkaibothἐνeninσαρκὶsarki[the] fleshκαὶkaiandἐνeninκυρίῳ;kuriō[the] Lord?
17. 17εἰeiIfοὖνounthereforeμεmemeἔχειςecheisyou considerκοινωνόν,koinōnona partner,προσλαβοῦproslaboudo yourself receiveαὐτὸνautonhimὡςhōsasἐμέ.ememe myself.
18. 18εἰeiIfδέdehoweverτιtiin any wayἠδίκησένēdikēsenhe has wrongedσεseyouἢēorὀφείλει,opheileihe owes [you],τοῦτοtoutothisἐμοὶemoito me myselfἐλλόγα.¶ellogado charge.
19. 19ἘγὼEgōI myselfΠαῦλοςPaulosPaulἔγραψαegrapsadid writeτῇtēa<the>ἐμῇemēawith my ownχειρί,cheirihand,ἐγὼegōI myselfἀποτίσω·apotisōwill repay [it];ἵναinathatμὴmēnotλέγωlegōI may sayσοιsoito youὅτιhotithatκαὶkaievenσεαυτόνseautonyourselfμοιmoito meπροσοφείλεις.prosopheileisyou owe also.

21. 21ΠεποιθὼςPepoithōsHaving been persuaded ofτῇtēatheὑπακοῇhupakoēaobedienceσουsouof youἔγραψάegrapsaI writeσοιsoito youεἰδὼςeidōsknowingὅτιhotithatκαὶkaievenὑπὲρhuperaboveλέγωlegōI sayποιήσεις.poiēseisyou will do.
22. 22ἅμαhamaAt the same timeδὲdenowκαὶkaialsoἑτοίμαζέhetoimazedo prepareμοιmoifor meξενίαν·xeniana lodging;ἐλπίζωelpizōI hopeγὰρgarforὅτιhotithatδιὰdiathroughτῶνtōntheπροσευχῶνproseuchōnprayersὑμῶνhumōnof youχαρισθήσομαιcharisthēsomaiI will be grantedὑμῖν.¶huminto you.
